Beads and buttons were among the earliest articles made in the new type of filigree that appeared in Europe in the late Middle Ages. The characteristics of this filigree were peculiarly appropriate to the structure of beads, and the production of beads may, indeed, have influenced the development of filigree itself in that period. The most common design was, and continues to be, a double rosette. Metal beads, least of all those made of filigree, have received little academic attention compared to that devoted to beads made of gem material and its natural derivative, glass. This article examines the widespread use of filigree in beads and buttons, and discusses how the designs and functions developed over time. Although filigree is made everywhere in much the same way, and with the most basic of tools, workers in different places and at different times have produced surprisingly different outcomes in terms of motif. The variations in these filigree motifs can help in identifying the origin of the objects which utilise them. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the interaction between hyper-video navigation tools (buttons, cognitive maps, and hot spots) and cognitive style (independent of cognitive field / dependent according to the cognitive field)' on the learning rate of the students at the Department of Education Technology. An experimental approach was used to compare six experimental groups (3*2). The research sample consisted of sixty sixth-grade students from the Department of Learning Techniques, College of Education, University of Jeddah. An embedded figure test (Embedded Figure Test) was used for elearning technology to determine who is independent of the cognitive field and who is dependent according to the cognitive field. The research sample was divided into six experimental groups, each with ten students. An electronic achievement test was created to measure the learning rate of students. The results showed that the buttons were the appropriate navigation tool for both the independents and the dependents in the cognitive field. That is because the buttons take into account the individual differences between the students, it was concluded that it is the most appropriate tool for roaming through the hyper-video. Clothing is capable of providing a range of insights into aspects of identity, authority, power, and hierarchy. Here we present the results of an analysis of an assemblage of uniform buttons and accoutrements from seven 19th-century Native Mounted Police (NMP) camps in Queensland, Australia. As part of wider colonial structures of discipline and expropriation, the NMP uniform was a powerful symbol of control: over troopers' bodies, over NMP detachments by officers, and over "wild" and "savage" Indigenous peoples by the NMP. Exploring the history and development of the NMP uniform, its intent in constructing officers and particularly troopers, the indexical qualities it acquired as a symbol of violence and fear amongst Indigenous people, and some of the alternative ways in which uniforms could be worn provides a variety of insights into the role, nature, and experience of the Queensland NMP. Among the many artefacts held by the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Franciscan monastery in Tolisa, the museum in Doboj, the Museum of Herzegovina in Mostar and other museums, are a number that form a diverse group including belt sets, belt plates, phalerae, buttons, strap-ends, pendants, the tips of scabbards and helmet parts. Most of these are belonged to military straps and belts, or to horse harness, shoes, armour etc., and were both practical and decorative. Some examples could be interpreted as apotropaic and prophylactic in nature. This broadly defined group also covers a wide range of dates, from the 1st century to late Antiquity. Purpose: Outcomes between primary gastrostomy tubes and buttons (G-tube and G-button) have not been established in pediatric patients. We hypothesized that primary G-tube have decreased complications when compared to G-button. Methods: A retrospective review of surgically placed gastrostomy devices from 2010 to 2017 was performed. Data collected included demographics, outcomes and 90-day complications. We divided the patients into primary G-tube and primary G-button. Results: Of 265 patients, 142 (53.6%) were male. Median age and weight at the time of surgery were 7 months (interquartile range [IQR], 2-44 months) and 6.70 kg (IQR, 3.98-14.15 kg), respectively. Among the groups, G-tube had 80 patients (30.2%) while G-button 185 patients (69.8%). There were 153 patients with at least one overall complication within 90 days postoperative. There was no significant difference in overall complications between groups (G-tube 63.8% vs. G-button 55.7%, p=0.192). More importantly, there were no significant differences in major complications among the groups, G-tube vs. G-button (5% vs. 4%; p=0.455). In this article we describe a modification of the open Latarjet technique, using sutures and cortical buttons, for the fixation of the coracoid. The transfer of the coracoid to the anterior glenoid is a popular technique used for complex shoulder instability. The technique is proven to be effective with consistently good results but complications have been reported related to the screws used for the fixation of the coracoid. Recent studies confirm that the suture-button technique for the fixation of the coracoid is biomechanically comparable to the screw fixation. The proposed technique combines the advantages of the open approach and avoids the use of metal screws, potentially minimizing hardware-related complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heavy rains and subsequent bank erosion in 1973 exposed the skeletal remains of 10 men and boys on Walnut Creek in Barton County, Kansas. The site (14BT301) has not been fully reported, and this effort is a step in that direction. The human remains were determined to include two men of African ancestry, and eight of white Euro-American ancestry. Historical research determined the burials are associated with the so-called Walnut Creek massacre where 10 teamsters were killed by Kiowa and Arapaho on 18 July 1864. Artifacts related to clothing they were wearing when interred are analyzed and reported. Thirteen iron projectile points that likely contributed to the deaths of the 10 are also analyzed and reported. The analytical results are compared to a rich historic documentary record which illustrates that travel on the Santa Fe Trail was not always benign. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have gained great interests as ecofriendly and safe solvents in diverse areas. Herein, various chitin-glucan complexes (CGCs) were prepared from white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) using DESs. Ultrasonication of mushroom in five DESs yielded two types of CGCs from each DES, one from the DES-insoluble residue (DES_P) and another from the DES-soluble extract (DES_S). The ten resulting CGCs with varying chitin-to-β-glucan ratios were compared with alkali-insoluble matter (AIM), chemically prepared using NaOH. BU_S and BU_P, prepared using BU comprising betaine and urea, were obtained in the highest yields with reasonably low protein and mineral contents. Despite different acetylation degrees (77.3% and 57.3%, respectively), BU_S and BU_P both degraded at 318 °C and showed remarkably low crystallinity (32.0% and 37.0% for BU_S and BU_P, respectively) compared to AIM, commercial chitin, and the reported CGCs. The surface of BU_S and BU_P was very porous and rough compared with AIM as a result of reduced H-bonds and lowered crystallinity. The DES-based method can potentially enable the preparation of advanced biomaterials from mushrooms under mild and ecofriendly conditions. Drip irrigation is of prime importance from several points of view as the most effective and reliable method. Nevertheless, emitter clogging is the major problem related to this technology. Furthermore, pressure compensating button emitters are widely used considering their advantages resulting from the uniform distribution of water, reduction of evaporation, and deep percolation. In the present study, we report on four pressures compensating button emitters and their resistance to the clogging. Our research objectives incorporate two aspects; executing a 980-h experiment of drip irrigation by taking into consideration the temperature calibration equation, and evaluating the performance of the emitters by using the following four parameters: the relative average discharge (Dra), coefficient of uniformity (CU), emitter uniformity (EU), and the flow rate variation (qvar). Thus, analyzing the evaluation of those parameters provides the potential of choosing emitters that have a high resistance to the clogging. The blue button Porpita porpita (Linnaeus, 1758) was observed for the first time in July 2018 in the Iskenderun Bay, Northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This is the third record of this species for Turkish marine waters, while it is the first record for Iskenderun bay. We use rich, micro-level tax return data for the entire population of small and medium-sized German restaurants and find empirical evidence that these firms employ the misclassification of meal consumption type as a VAT evasion strategy. Using difference-in-differences as well as triple-difference-in-differences specifications, we find that a ceteris paribus increase in the standard VAT rate significantly increases the declared sales volume of take-away consumption (reduced rate) relative to on-site consumption (standard rate), even though gross prices are customarily identical for both consumption types. Language and culture are closely connected, which is clearly reflected in many phraseological units (PUs). PUs are rarely used outside the language community in which they developed, thus causing comprehension problems to non-native speakers on account of their cultural specificity. That is why dictionaries should include cultural information to enable the users to learn about the cultural background of PUs. In online bilingual phraseological dictionaries, this type of information is of secondary importance if compared with dictionary equivalents, which are of primary importance. The aim of this article is to discuss types of additional information regarded as being of secondary importance and accessible by clicking on extra buttons, the focus being on the presentation of the cultural component. The language pair of sample entries illustrating the use of extra buttons is English and Slovenian, but the same principle could be employed in other language pairs with the necessary language-specific modifications and adaptations. The study deals with uniform buttons in the collection of the Waldes Museum of Buttons and Fasteners in Prague-Vršovice, which was founded at the initiative of Prague industrialist and philanthropist Jindřich Waldes. Over the course of the museum's existence, from 1916 to 1945, the collection came to include more than 350 uniform buttons. This study tries to capture the significance of the collection at the Waldes Museum, both as exhibits in themselves, and as study material connected with the museum's publication work or the building of a specialised archive and library on the other. It also presents selected exhibits from the collection in question, together with other associated objects and specialised materials. This essay explores the role of everyday objects in life writing, using the example of a collection of buttons. Writing as bricoleur, and influenced by thing theory, I follow a digressive path and wonder how key aspects of life writing, such as memory, the body, and identity, are influenced when one writes from and with objects.

This communication proposes a two-port multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) antenna fabricated on a small size colored resin plastic button where full dielectric properties of the button substrate are evaluated before designing the MIMO antenna. The antenna uses partial ground plane and two coaxial feeds for the excitation of two semicircular shaped patch elements. A very simple copper ring around the four slots of the button is used to obtain very high port isolation. The antenna covers the frequency range from 7.96 to 8.76 GHz and fulfills the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) band (8–8.5 GHz) for fixed wireless communication application. It provides very high port isolation (>21 dB) and diversity gain (DG > 9.8 dB) over the whole band. The investigated envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) (<0.18) and channel capacity loss (CCL) (<0.24 b/s/Hz) are potentially very low. The mean effective gain (MEG) (±0.3 dB) over the entire application band is found in a well-accepted range. The prototype could be mounted on a textile material of on-body cloths for different wearable monitoring purposes. The simulated and measured outcomes are matched with a satisfactory level to mark the proposed two-element two-port button antenna as a suitable MIMO candidate for the specified application band. Purpose: To analyse the changing trends in penetrating keratoplasty indications between January 2011 and December 2018, at the Department of Ophthalmology, Saarland University Medical Center, Homburg/Saar, Germany. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective review of 2123 corneal buttons of 1776 patients (1993 eyes, 56.0% males, age at the time of surgery 57.6 ± 18.7 years), who underwent penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) between January 2011 and December 2018. The classification was performed based on histological analysis and using the priority scheme of Brady et al., supplemented by a group of "failed endothelial keratoplasty grafts". Our groups were the following: pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy, regraft, failed endothelial keratoplasty graft, acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis, keratoconus, Fuchs' dystrophy, corneal dystrophy other than Fuchs', corneal scars and other diagnoses. Results: Between 2011 and 2018, keratoconus was the leading indication for PKP in 455 (21.5%) cases, followed by acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis in 384 (18.1%), regraft in 367 (17.3%), corneal scars in 350 (16.5%), pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy in 225 (10.6%), Fuchs' dystrophy in 194 (9.1%), other diagnoses in 64 (3.0%), corneal dystrophy other than Fuchs' in 52 (2.4%), and failed endothelial keratoplasty graft in 32 (1.5%) cases. Conclusions: With the introduction of posterior lamellar keratoplasty, keratoconus remains the leading PKP indication in our center with excimer laser-trephination on a routine basis. A trend towards increasing numbers can be observed regarding acute necrotizing and ulcerative keratitis patients and regrafts. Costus plant is considered as a medicinal plant especially in therapeutic intervention. The current study reports the composition, phytochemical, and antioxidant properties of red button ginger (Costus woodsonii) using sequential extraction. Solvents of different polarities (hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water) were used to sequentially extract the C. woodsonii bract, at increasing polarities. Phytochemical screening showed positive presence of flavonoids (all types of extracts), terpenoids (only in methanolic extract), and tannins (except aqueous extract). Overall, methanolic extracts showed the significantly (p ≤ .05) highest ascorbic acid content (75.76 ± 1.47 mg/100 ml), total phenolic content (249.64 ± 2.83 mg GAE/100 g), DPPH free radical-scavenging activity (78.76 ± 0.97%), ferric reducing antioxidant power (22.55 ± 0.96 mg TEAC/g), superoxide anion scavenging activity (46.60 ± 1.57%) and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity (50.35 ± 0.96%). In short, sequential extraction provides understanding of polarity specificity of C. woodsonii plant and result indicated high polarity solvent (methanol and water) recovered higher bioactive compounds. We examined the relationship between the implicit power motive (nPow) and the frequency of verbal persuasion behavior (VPB) in dyads of children, while they negotiated a task assignment over a period of 6 min. Sixty-six German children (32 female) aged between 6 and 8 years (M = 7.12, SD = 0.42) participated. First, we assessed children's implicit power motive by a 6-image Picture Story Exercise (PSE) and had the parents rate their children's shyness via the Children's Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ). In a dyadic situation approximately 4 months later, children high in nPow used VPB more frequently, regardless of whether the second child was also high in nPow or not. Additionally, shy children showed less VPB. The implications of these results for implicit motive theory and behavioral research in children are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The following paper is an analysis of user preferences for the placement of buttons on a mobile map application. The authors focused on six public web mapping services, analysing them in terms of the graphical diversity of their buttons. What made the study innovative was the comparison of subjective user preferences regarding buttons placement with the layout of public web mapping services. The obtained results led to a conclusion that user preferences differ from the solutions applied on web mapping services. Clicking the like button is a popularly used interaction function on social media. Although prior empirical studies have examined motives for liking behavior on social media, they have largely neglected culture-driven theories and the underlying mechanisms for why users click the like button. By integrating guanxi theory and the affective response model, we propose a conceptual model to determine what factors influence users' liking behavior on WeChat. We examine data from an online survey of 327 respondents using PLS-SEM. The findings show that content cues (i.e., content usefulness and content interestingness) positively affect WeChat users' positive emotions, which in turn predict their intention to like. More importantly, guanxi cues (i.e., mianzi giving, renqing , and ganqing) positively affect WeChat users' expected guanxi benefit, which in turn affects intention to like in two ways. On the one hand, the expected guanxi benefit has a direct positive effect on intention to like; on the other hand, this benefit can translate into positive emotions, which in turn predict users' intention to like. Background: To compare the clinical results of all-inside anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using suspensory cortical button fixation and full tibial tunnel drilling.Methods: Systematic searches were conducted of published literature up to November 2019 on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane for studies comparing all-inside ACLR using suspensory cortical button fixation and full tibial tunnel ACLR. Two reviewers independently determined eligibility, extracted the outcome data, and assessed the risk of bias of the eligible studies. The clinical outcome and graft reruptures were pooled by using random effects with mean differences and risk ratios for continuous and dichotomous variables, respectively.Result: A total of nine studies (five randomized controlled trials and four comparative studies) involving 613 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The postoperative functional outcome, knee laxity measured with arthrometer, and graft reruptures were comparable between patients with all-inside ACLR using suspensory cortical button fixation and full tibial tunnel ACLR. However, a significantly greater thickness of autologous tendon was used and less change in drilling tunnel diameter was noted in patients with suspensory cortical button graft fixation.Conclusions: All-inside ACLR with suspensory cortical button fixation was not clinically superior to full tibial tunnel ACLR with interference screw fixation in functional outcomes, knee laxity measured with arthrometer, or rerupture rate. However, the advantage of using suspensory cortical button fixation was that a thicker graft could be used for reconstruction, and brought less tibia tunnel widening compared with bioabsorbable interference screw fixation. In December 2018, an article summarizing available results of randomized studies on renal denervation (RDN), entitled "Renal denervation: can we press the ON button again?" was published in the Advances in Interventional Cardiology. Since then, several positive reports, including SPYRAL HTN OFF-MED Pivotal trial have been presented. In the current review the authors discuss the latest data on RDN in arterial hypertension treatment and try to answer the burning question: can we press the ON button again in 2020? The results of recently published studies potentially justify new recommendations for the use of RDN in clinical practice in appropriately selected patients in the new hypertension guidelines. The current review also summarizes the results of trials on RDN applied in another potential indication -- atrial fibrillation. Six most important, prospective, randomized trials assessing RDN as adjunct therapy to pulmonary vein isolation for treatment of atrial fibrillation were discussed. In 5 studies, patients had uncontrolled BP despite treatment with three antihypertensive agents. The ratio for recurrence of atrial fibrillation for pulmonary vein isolation with RDN procedure was reduced by 57% as compared to pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone. BP was also reduced significantly after RDN in this subset of patients. Further multicenter studies involving standardized PVI and RDN procedures are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical results of the Latarjet procedure using two cortical buttons vs two screws. It was hypothesized that cortical button would result in similar rates of recurrent dislocations, but a lower rate of reoperation compared to screw fixation.Methods: A retrospective comparative case-cohort analysis was performed for all patients undergoing a Latarjet procedure for recurrent anterior glenohumeral instability. Patient demographics, number of dislocations prior surgery, arm dominance, shoulder hyperlaxity, level of sport, type of sport and ISIS score were collected. Shoulders were separated into two groups based on surgical fixation (screws vs cortical button). Postoperatively, shoulders were evaluated for recurrent dislocation, revision surgery, post-operative Walch-Duplay score, and the Simple shoulder test (SST). Two hundred and thirty-six patients were included in the screw fixation group (group A) and 72 in button fixation group (group B) and were evaluated at a mean follow-up of 3.4 ± 0.8 years. Demographics of the two groups were similar with the exception of operative side hand dominance, which was more common in group B [50 (69.4%) vs 128 (54.2%), p = 0.02].Results: Recurrent dislocation was significantly lower in Group A: 6 (2.5%) vs 6(8.3%) (p = 0.02). Reoperation was more common in group A [14 (5.9%) vs 0 (0%)]. At follow-up, Walch-Duplay scores and simple shoulder tests were similar in both groups.Conclusion: Button fixation for Latarjet showed higher rates of recurrent dislocation compared to screw fixation. Composting is an aerobic biotic decomposition route that is governed by physicochemical and microbiological factors. The importance of bacterial flora throughout composting is well recognized. Though, diversity of the bacterial population during composting may differ with the composting material and nutrients content. Therefore, it is essential to study the different types of bacteria during the composting of various agricultural byproducts. The aim of this review is to evaluate the diversity of bacteria, physicochemical factors and quality of compost for cultivation of Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom) for enhancement of better productivity. Refutations by native or converted Muslims to reject religions other than Islam have been produced for ages, including during the Ottoman era. However, studies about such refutations have mainly focused on the Ottoman world from the 19th century until the 2000s. One of the exceptions is Judith Pfeiffer's study on Kashf al-asrār fī ilzām al-Yahūd wa-l-aḥbār by Yūsuf Ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Dayyān. This paper intends to demonstrate that the conclusion reached by Pfeiffer, i.e., that the text, which she dates to 17th century within the context of the Qāḍīzādelis-Sivāsīs debate and uses as a reference, is actually a tract called al-Radd ʿalá l-Yahūd by Ṭāshkuprīzādah, is not accurate. This paper also aims to demonstrate that Ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Dayyān actually lived in the 16th century and wrote this work in relation to the Jews who had become gradually more visible in the social and cultural life of Istanbul following their migration from Spain and that the use of the reference is actually the use of the book of Ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Dayyān by Ṭāshkuprīzādah. Objective/background: Wrist-worn sleep actigraphs are limited for evaluating sleep, especially in sleepers who lie awake in bed without moving for extended periods. Sleep logs depend on the accuracy of perceiving and remembering times of being awake. Here we evaluated pressing an event-marker button while lying awake under two conditions: self-initiated pressing every 5 to 10 minutes or pressing when signaled every 5 minutes by a vibration pulse from a wristband. We evaluated the two conditions for acceptability and their concordance with actigraphically scored sleep. Participants and methods: Twenty-nine adults wore actigraphs on six nights. On nights 1 and 4, they pressed the marker to a vibration signal, and on nights 2 and 5, they self-initiated presses without any signal. On nights 3 and 6, they were told not to press the marker. Every morning they filled out a sleep log about how they had slept. Results: The vibration band was unacceptable to 42% of the participants, who judged it too disturbing to their sleep. Self-initiated pressing was acceptable to all, although it reduced log reported sleep depth compared to a no pressing condition. Estimations of sleep onset latency were considerably longer by button pressing than by actigraphy. Agreement of epoch-by-epoch sleep scoring by actigraphy and by button pressing was poor (kappa = 0.23) for self-initiated pressing and moderate (kappa = 0.46) for pressing in response to a vibration. Conclusions: Self-initiated button pressing to indicate being awake while lying in bed is acceptable to many, interferes little with sleep, and adds substantially to the information given by actigraphy. In China, a special anode design with a button in each stub hole is adopted by many smelters. To investigate the effects of the stub hole button on the anode, numerical simulations of the anode rodding process and the running process of the conventional anode without a stub hole button (design A) and the special design (design B) were conducted. In anode rodding, design B shows worse cooling capacity than design A, while the air gap of design B (0.39 mm to 0.94 mm) is larger than that of design A (0.3 mm to 0.45 mm). During the anode running process, the stub hole button could contact neither the cast iron nor the stub, and the anode voltage drop of design B is 26 mV larger than that of design A because the larger air gap deteriorates the cast iron–carbon contact. This study evaluates tube-specific outcomes after primary placement of low-profile buttons (LPBs) compared with long gastrostomy tubes (LGTs). All surgically placed gastrostomy tubes from 2015 to 2017 from a single institution were reviewed. Primary outcomes were tube dislodgement and tube-related readmissions within 30 d. Secondary outcomes were resource utilization and minor complications within 6 mo. 53% (n = 253) of patients received an LGT and 47% (n = 228) received an LPB. Groups were similar with regard to operative indication and approach, but LPB patients were slightly older (9 versus 6 mo, P = 0.02). Tube dislodgement occurred overall in 6% of patients, with 23% and 41% experiencing leakage and granulation tissue, respectively. LGT patients experienced higher rates of tube dislodgement (9% versus 3%, P = 0.006), but no difference in tube-related readmissions (P = 0.38). LGT patients were also more likely to visit the ER for a tube-related concern (43.9% versus 31.6%, P = 0.01) and report problems of leakage around the tube (27.7% versus 17.5%, P = 0.01). No difference was found for issues of peristomal granulation tissue or in tube-related readmissions. Primary placement of low-profile gastrostomy buttons is safe and demonstrated superior tube-related outcomes compared with LGTs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
