A disconnect has long existed between what is typically taught in management education programs and what real-world organizations seek in their leadership candidates, particularly regarding interpersonal skills. Primary complaints from the business community revolve around issues of curriculum relevance and delivery methodologies that do not facilitate the transfer of skills learned in the classroom to the workplace. A review of the literature yields very few examples of business programs that have added courses, or topics within existing courses, that address interpersonal skills. We describe a graduate-level course designed to intentionally develop interpersonal skills to meet the needs of local hiring managers, maximize organizational outcomes, and enhance leaders' career opportunities. The course is delivered via active, experiential instructional methodologies to facilitate the transfer of new knowledge and skills to the workplace. A pre- and post-test comparison of students' results on a competency-based behavioral model of emotional intelligence showed an increase in students' scores, indicating that the course has been effective in developing students' practical interpersonal skills. This article describes the fundamental design and delivery elements of this successful leadership course that can be replicated and implemented at other universities to more effectively align what students learn with what organizations need. This paper aims to address the issue of executorial title in Indonesia regarding the latest regulations in fiduciary whether it is still relevant to the development of increasingly advanced information technology. The number of fiduciary disputes in the Supreme Court brings out the fact that fiduciary regulation still does not fulfill the needs of the parties involved. With regard to that matter with the issuance of the Constitutional Court’s Decision Number 18/PUU-XVII/2019, the executorial title of the fiduciary certificate seems to be dwarfed. It is important that we identify and address the issues of fiduciary guarantee which are related to the regulation of the governance system in utilizing technology to facilitate and provide protection for investors to make the atmosphere of investment in Indonesia more interesting. The methodology that will be adopted in conducting this study would be a normative legal analysis of all laws and regulations regarding fiduciary guarantees that will provide insight to society and the government, especially stakeholders who are involved in the fiduciary guarantee agreement. We hope to recommend through this paper that specific legislation be created to improve the social and legal protection of business people in order for them to be able to conduct safely and freely business activities in the investment climate of the financial industry which has the potential to boost the Indonesian economic growth. - Abstract
This research analyzes the jurisprudential work in the determination of the validity conditions for the exercise of the unilateral faculty of geographic mobility in the Pe-ruvian legal system. Despite the lack of specific regulation on the modification of substantial working conditions; and, based on the generic regulation of the limits of management power, the ius variandi principle and the dispositions on acts of hostility by the employer, both the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, have decided that the decision of geographical mobility, as it affects one of the substantial conditions of the employment contract, it requi-res the business proof of the reasonable justifying cause related to the needs of the company and the proof of the reasons for the choice of this specific worker. Likewise, it requires that the business decision does not cause any detriment to the worker, understanding as such any patrimonial or non-patrimonial damage that unreasonably affects the rights and interests of the worker or those of his family nucleus. Such demands show a judicial work framed within the constitutional mandate to provide protection to the worker and to guarantee the effective enforcement of human rights in the labor law. Finally, such requirements would be meanin-gless if mechanisms were not established within the scope of the labor judicial process to fa-cilitate, as in fact has happened, the proof of the abusive act committed by the employer. The judicial criteria on evidentiary facilitation will also be analyzed -through the evidence test- that helps to make effective the protective principle in the field of the labor judicial process., En el presente trabajo se analiza la labor jurisprudencial en la determinación delas condiciones de validez para el ejercicio de la facultad unilateral de movilidad geográfica en el ordenamiento jurídico peruano.

- Abstract
Working onboard offshore oil platforms, whether for production or drilling, presents a series of risks, involving two substances that are naturally unhealthy and dangerous - crude oil and natural gas. It is therefore necessary to develop integrated management systems that balance business needs, resource constraints, technical capabilities, and emerging risks. In addition, it is necessary to meet the regulatory requirements, which in Brazil are determined by ANP (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis). In view of the Human Reliability regulatory requirements, a dedicated study was developed, seeking to align the expectations of the regulator, the company’s resources and the validated methodologies of analysis, a requirement of the ANP itself. As a result, following HSE publications and ANP guidance, it was observed that the FRAM (Functional Resonance Analysis Method) methodology, simultaneously, can meet both the demands of Human Reliability and Human Factors. From the activities performed onboard offshore units that present the most complex combination of risks, the operations with nitrogen (generation and freezing storage) and the operation of the gas dehydration unit, were selected to be analyzed with FRAM. The results of these analyses, in addition to failures, it was also perceived that human adaptive behavior, a building element of system resilience, promotes safe operational continuity, even with the partial or complete loss of intrinsic safety barriers.

- Abstract
The challenges for higher education to meet the demands of professionals in the sub-region of eastern Antioquia, Colombia. The aim of this research was to establish training requirements at higher education level in the sub-region of eastern Antioquia, Colombia. The research entailed a review of existing literature, which was then contrasted with qualitative studies of businesses operating in productive sectors such as information and communication technologies (ICT), agro-industrial sectors and airports, ports and air terminals. The research showed that although most higher education programs were adequate, they failed to meet the emerging labour demands required by the productive sectors in the region. The key challenge for new study programs is the use of ICT for improving business productivity. In this sense, training programs should therefore embody a transdisciplinary approach that helps to improve production processes, enable the design of tailor-made programs, reduce production times, and facilitate process optimization and automation. This article focuses on the work-life 'balance' challenges of those who work in organisations that operate beyond standard hours. The concept of work-life articulation is utilised to examine the experiences and practicalities of attempting to reconcile the, often competing, demands of employment and family life. Qualitative research was conducted in two private sector businesses and one-third sector organisation in the UK during the onset of the 2008 financial crisis. The findings reveal increasing competitive pressures, efficiency drives and work intensification. 'Business needs' are prioritised over care responsibilities, and in the private sector organisations there is declining flexible working with a reassertion of the management prerogative. This article contributes to current debates over work-life 'balance' and highlights variable, changeable and unpredictable working time arrangements that permeate non-standard hours, which creates additional complexities and challenges for family time schedules and routines. - Abstract
Many businesses today use enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) to handle their processes and information. ERP systems are generically designed to be able to fit a wide range of businesses. This generic composition creates a customization need, something that is not always so easy to handle. To customize ERP system is through research well known to be a both costly and complex task, several studies suggest the business should adapt to the system instead. From factors such as a rapid technical development, shifts in the market, and internal changes within the organization, need for change can arise over time. Likewise, new tools have been developed to meet business specific needs, such as the low-code BPM platform. Low-code BPM platforms can be seen as development tools for stand-alone applications and integrated solutions to be used to meet business needs. With a case study, we investigate how a low-code BPM platform can be used as an alternative for ERP customization, as well as what types of business needs a low-code BPM platform can meet. The study includes four interviews and an artifact study at a Swedish IT service company, who offer customers solutions developed through their low-code BPM platform. The results show low-code BPM platforms to be used as stand-alone applications, integration engines, or embedded in the ERP interface. Solutions developed on a low-code BPM platform have a clear focus on end-users. The study identifies business needs of mobile access to ERP-system, customization of processes according to existing business operations, increased access to information, guiding user interfaces, and improved collaboration

- Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify how key external and internal policies can impact on the internal policies of a University in the UK. It explains how the internal structures can be changed to meet the policy demands and how the need to meet those demands can lead to the development of an innovative pedagogy to broaden engagement with the business community, to offer work-based learning to employees within small to medium-sized enterprises. Design/methodology/approach – The objectives of the case study are to review the key external policies and drivers for change and how these led to internal policy and structure changes. The paper reviews past practice in the university around employer engagement, how this is affected by the external changes and identifies opportunities for change offered through the availability of external project funding. The key requirements for the new pedagogical approach are outlined, along with its primary concepts and how an e-portfolio has been designed to meet the needs of the target group. Findings – The paper shows how imperatives arising from policies and drivers outside the university can be contextualised by that university to develop a cost-effective, sustainable and scaleable pedagogy to widen access to cohorts of learners that would otherwise not be able to access higher education. Originality/value – The paper showcases an innovative pedagogic approach to enable access to higher education for work-based learners in small to medium-sized enterprises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The need for integrating business and technical information systems, allowing partners to collaborate effectively in creating innovative products, has motivated the design and deployment of a novel integration framework for product lifecycle management. The time is ripe for such an integration framework because of the convergence of three important developments, almost in a perfect storm: (1) maturity of standardized product data and meta-data models, and standardized engineering and business processes; (2) emergence of service-oriented architecture for information sharing; and (3) availability of robust middleware to implement them. These developments allow engineering and business objects and processes to be built or composed as modular pieces of software in the form of services that can communicate with each other and be used across different parts of a business. These modular software pieces can be reused and reconfigured in new ways as business conditions change, thereby saving time and money for companies. This paper describes the business and technical aspects of an integration framework for product lifecycle management using open standards and service-oriented architecture. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

There are many MBA courses in the world. It is necessary to know the uniqueness of each MBA (Master of Business Administration) in the world. What are the criteria to evaluate the value of MBA? I gathered some basic information of MBAs in Europe, USA and Japan. These are the official information provided by Web site of each University. Through the survey for those 3 area's MBA course, I found regional uniqueness among 3 regions as above. In the USA, it has long history and many MBAs in USA. They are in the very tough competition each other. However, majority of them are practical business oriented MBA. In Japan, it is different. MBA is very new in Japan. Some of the University strengthens MOT (Management of Technology). It is technology oriented MBA. In Europe, it has variety; however it smells academic oriented MBA. There are 3 tastes in MBA. All of those MBA has 1 common approach, it is social linkage. MBA is developed for business needs, and it is from social needs. MBA must countermeasure such a social needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nazarov Ural State University of Economics, Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation The article analyzes data provided by HeadHunter and regarding demand and supply in the labor market of the Russian Federation and the Ural Federal District in the Human Resource Management segment. The goal of the study is to determine the possibilities and prospects of using such information to synchronize demand and supply of educational institutions’ graduates in the labor market due to the fact that their current desynchronization minimizes the effectiveness of the system of vocational and higher education. Analysis showed that the labor market sector under study is subject to minor changes from a business point of view due to its conservative nature, while applicants demonstrate significant volatility of their ideas about promising areas of professional activity. As it was concluded by the example of a specific sector of the local labor market based on the obtained results, the existing imbalances require enhancement of interaction between educational organizations and market enterprises as well as revitalization of state authorities in terms of regulating these imbalances. The authors believe that educational institutions essentially have an infrastructural role in the labor market and should use information from other market elements to develop an educational strategy that leads to an increase in the efficiency of market relations.

Abstract The challenges for higher education to meet the demands of professionals in the sub-region of eastern Antioquia, Colombia.

- Abstract
Learning a foreign language (most of all English) has become established as one of the most desired goals of individuals trying to be competitive in the national and international labor markets. In Croatia, learning a foreign language starts very early and is continued up to tertiary education at the majority of institutions. The questions that arise entail the kind of language an individual requires while pursuing their career – whether it is general, academic, business, or for specific purposes (English) - and, in accordance with the need – whether formal tertiary education provides this specific type of language. The authors have tried to answer the questions by conducting a needs analysis among students of bachelor programs and individuals working in business sector to compare the students’ ideas and business people’s experiences. The answers given by participants in an online questionnaire were collected and analyzed using the SPSS software. The results obtained show a discrepancy between the language students think is needed and what those with experience in the labor market actually use. This opens up a possible issue with regard to the syllabus at university in the relation to actual needs: Are we teaching a foreign language by having a real need and purpose in mind or are we just teaching the language for the sake of teaching it? There are many MBA courses in the world. It is necessary to know the uniqueness of each MBA (Master of Business Administration) in the world. What are the criteria to evaluate the value of MBA? I gathered some basic information of MBAs in Europe, USA and Japan. These are the official information provided by Web site of each University. Through the survey for those 3 area’s MBA course, I found regional uniqueness among 3 regions as above.

In face of growing concern related to climate change, green technology entrepreneurs are critically needed to develop the businesses and ideas behind climate mitigation in developing countries - but they frequently collide with challenges endemic to such environments. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the role that connections can play in helping green technology entrepreneurs innovate and scale up in developing countries, so as to inform the design of new public sector programs. Green technology entrepreneurs in developing countries need connection platforms for people, ideas, business models, transactions, as well as membership of expert communities. This study shows how cheaper, quicker, and more efficient connections can be created among stakeholders of green technology innovation in developing countries. This is done through drawing insights from a variety of public and private programs that seek to promote connections between entrepreneurs in green technology and other sectors. The report is based on 14 case studies of different programs spanning more than 80 countries. The general findings are presented in part one and insights from the individual case studies can be found in part two.

A new generation of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is finding a small foothold among poor, small-scale farmers in developing countries. Even so, many barriers still prevent poor rural people from accessing, using, and benefiting from new ICT tools and platforms, and those barriers are arguably higher for rural women. The relationship between gender and agriculture has been studied intensively over the years, and many agricultural interventions now include gender as a crosscutting issue or mainstream gender throughout their operations. Studies of the relationship between gender and the use of ICTs in agriculture have started to appear only quite recently, however. The Africa Region of the World Bank views ICTs as potentially transformative technology for rural development and seeks to incorporate the use of ICTs throughout its portfolio of projects. The present study was designed to examine the feasibility of integrating ICTs into two large investment programs: the Irrigation Development and Support Project (IDSP) in Zambia and the Kenya Agricultural Productivity and Agribusiness Project (KAPAP). The specifi c goal was to examine how ICT-based interventions might be designed to strengthen women s participation in commodity value chains under the two projects.

The purpose of this paper is to capture lessons learned from East African entrepreneurs who were some of crowdfunding’s first adopters. Their experiences can serve as a practical guide for entrepreneurs looking to more effectively utilize crowdfunding across all emerging markets. In order to gather this data, the World Bank conducted interviews with a number of East African technology entrepreneurs who ran crowdfunding campaigns, both successfully and unsuccessfully. The following paper offers six key lessons for entrepreneurs in Africa and other emerging markets as they consider when, why and how to launch a crowdfunding campaign: crowdfunding is much more difficult than most entrepreneurs anticipate and is not for everyone. Opportunity costs abound; business needs should dictate platform choice; payment systems impact platform choice; quality and quantity of contributor networks are key; entrepreneurs should tap into complementary resources and organizations to increase their likelihood of success; and crowdfunding can have non-monetary benefits.

Research and information services in corporate business are facing challenges to their value and relevance. The key to continued existence lies in ensuring that the research service is offering what the business needs and then demonstrating that value to the business. This requires research services to respond to the constantly changing demands of businesses who themselves are seeking to survive. It is a continuing cycle of assessing the service offering against the business needs; defining the remit of the research service based on those needs; demonstrating that the research service is commercially valuable because it understands what the business research needs are and delivers against these needs. The results can provide a powerful message to stakeholders and can counter the view that a research service is an unnecessary cost. The aim of any research service is to be, and to be seen as, a necessary resource, rather than one that is nice to have. This article is written from the experiences of the author from various research roles in consultancies and professional services where the author has worked and also established research services that focus on delivering value-added, commercially relevant research support, direct to staff who are undertaking work for clients. Banks in emerging markets are increasingly providing non-financial services to their SME clients, typically consisting of information sharing, training and consultancy. This study, published by IFC in partnership with the Austrian Government, is the first to explore reasons behind this trend, finding that banks' key motivations include attracting and retaining customers, and strengthening portfolio quality. The report consists of an overview followed by case studies of three banks, namely Türk Ekonomi Bankasý (TEB), Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), and ICICI Bank. It is estimated that there are 365 to 445 million formal and informal micro, small, and medium enterprises, with a subset of 25 to 35 million formal SMEs, in the developing world. Of these, 70 percent do not use external financing from financial institutions, although they are in need of it. Approximately 85 percent suffer from credit constraints.

Although a number of m-money businesses have emerged around the world, few have reached significant scale. Overall, m-money uptake is limited when contrasted with its apparent promise of reaching the unbanked and underserved, servicing existing banking clients, and being a means for realizing a cashless society. This study examines the following in more detail: existing major money flows and the critical mass of low-value, high-volume payment transactions and whether m-money can be used for them (i.e., potential demand); regulatory environment and major obstacles for m-money uptake; business models of partnering institutions; payment behavior of users and nonusers (banked and unbanked), in particular where they receive funds and how they use money, including alternative means; and existing and potential agents networks, their requirements to run m-money as a viable business, and their training needs. This report provides detailed information on Thailand regarding five main topics, business models, money flows and demand, potential user perceptions and behavior, regulation, and agent networks.

International aid flows are equivalent to almost half of Solomon Islands' economy, making it one of the most aid-dependent countries in the world. Around US$250 million of non-military aid enters the country, but only 15-20 percent of this amount is spent locally through local procurement or staff expenditure. Solomon Islands are currently highly reliant on logging for export receipts, Government revenues, and employment. But existing stocks of natural forest logs are expected to be entirely exhausted by 2014. The Solomon Islands Government approached the World Bank Group to identify alternative sources of revenue, foreign exchange receipts, and employment in the absence of logging. In responding to this request, the World Bank Group has undertaken extensive analytical work examining short and medium-term prospects for economic growth in Solomon Islands, under the sources of growth project. This report contributes to the sources of growth work, and is informed by its findings. A key conclusion arising from sources of growth analysis is that aid is likely to remain a key part of the Solomon Islands economy for the near future. The existence of an international security guarantee, backed by the presence of an international peacekeeping force, is paramount for security, and investment certainty. In the absence of clear or certain alternatives to logging, and in the context of rapid population growth, current levels of service delivery will continue to depend on high levels of aid expenditure.

This assessment of Zambia's investment climate highlights some of the impediments to growth and export diversification in the current business environment in the country. It is based on an analysis of enterprise survey data specifically collected for the purpose, namely, the World Bank's Zambia Enterprise Survey of 2008. The report is in two volumes. Volume I is an overview, while Volume II is the final report, whose introductory chapter sets the stage for the analysis of microeconomic aspects of business environment in the following chapters. Chapter 2 analyzes manufacturing productivity in an international perspective as a proximate determinant of manufactured exports. Chapter 3 discusses key business environment variables as underlying factors in manufacturing employment and productivity, and draws the main policy implications of the assessment. Chapter 4 is a more in-depth analysis of disparity in access to finance across firms and sectors as a major source of market distortions and allocative inefficiency. Chapter 5 discusses labor market issues with a focus on labor regulation, wage formation and on-the-job training.

The objective of this paper is to share the experiences and good practices of early business registry reformers who implemented web-enabled and automated electronic business registries (e-BRs). These lessons are hoped to be of help to EU New Member countries as they embark on delivering EU-conformant e-BRs. At the same time, policymakers in other developing countries may also find these lessons of use. This paper cites examples of good practices rather than best practices. As elsewhere in the development agenda, solutions that have worked well in some countries may not work in other local circumstances. In the case of e-BRs, success depends on a broader set of reforms; as will be discussed in a subsequent chapter, e-BRs require a supportive legal and regulatory infrastructure, such as electronic signature laws and document authentication. A needs assessment and analysis of the options in the local country context need to be conducted in order to find the most relevant best practice options for a specific country. Nevertheless, a number of practical good practices can be identified and are presented in this paper for consideration.

- Abstract
In recent years, business and industry have been vocal critics of education. Critics complain the American workforce, particularly young people, are deficient in workplace skills. A survey of 500 randomly selected Ohio businesses was used to determine opinions of respondents related to workplace skills gaps, rising skill levels, and level and type of critical thinking used on the job by all employees and entry-level employees.Four of 18 science outcomes promoted by the Ohio Department of Education had an application in business and these required critical-thinking skills to complete. These four formed the foundation in the survey because they provided a connection between thinking skills required on the Ohio 12th Grade Proficiency Test and those required on the job. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to identify correlation between responses. The alpha level was p < .05. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to identify significant (p < .05) relationships between variables as represented by responses. In addition, one version of the Science Section of the Ohio 12th Grade Proficiency Test was analyzed for use of critical thinking using the SCAN’s critical- thinking attributes as a standard. There were several findings related to workplace skills and critical thinking. Only 17.1% of respondents indicated dissatisfaction with the basic academic skill level of their employees. A majority (71.1%) of responding businesses perceived a lack of work ethic as more important than deficient academic skills. Only 17.1% of respondents reported the skill level of their entry-level employees was rising. Approximately 1/3 of responding businesses required no critical thinking at all from their entry-level employees. Small businesses were significantly more likely to require higher levels of critical thinking from their entry level employees than larger businesses. Employers who reported rising skill levels in entry-level employees required all of their employees to exhibit critical thinking similar to that required on the four tested outcomes on the Science Section, Ohio 12th Grade Proficiency Test.
