Managing fisheries sustainably in Pakistan depends heavily on monitoring industrial fishery operations as many fisheries stocks have been declared overexploited resulting in decreased economic contribution. This study assesses the fishery stock status of Lutjanus johnii, estimated for the first time in Sindh, Pakistan. In this regard, surplus production models (SPMs), non-equilibrium, analyzed fishery statistics from 2004 to 2017. ASPIC (A Stock Production Model Incorporating Covariates) and CEDA (Catch and Effort Data Analysis), computer-based and manually operated statistical routines, were used to apply SPMs to the data. Based on the ASPIC output, the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) was computed as 989 tons (t) in the Schaefer Model (S-M) and 873 t in the Fox Model (F-M). In S-M and F-M, the coefficient of variation (CV) and goodness of fit (R2) remained at 0.107, 0214, and 0.962, 0.978, respectively. Furthermore, ASPIC results highlighted decreased fishing mortality (F) and increased biomass (B). Meanwhile, in CEDA, MSY outputs along with R2 remained at 1051 t (0.718) for S-M and the Pella-Tomlinson Model (PT-M). S-M and PT-M MSY outputs remained the same at 1051 t (0.718) in CEDA. In contrast, F-M calculated these parameters at 849 t (0.941). Based on the results, it is clear that L. johnii is being overexploited in Sindh, Pakistan. This research examined the biological reference points (BRPs) and stock status of the sardine fishery in the Bay of Bengal (BoB), Bangladesh, to determine the sustainability of this resource. The Monte Carlo method (CMSY), the Bayesian state-space Schaefer surplus production model (BSM), and the ASPIC (a Stock Production Model Incorporating Covariates) software suite, were used to analyze catch–effort data obtained from the Yearbook of Fisheries Statistics of Bangladesh. All models derived maximum sustainable yields (MSY) ranging from 37,900 to 41,280 t, which is quite near to the catch from the latest year (38,051 t in 2020), indicating the fully exploited status of sardines. The estimated B < BMSY and F > FMSY values from the BSM and Schaefer models indicate a poor biomass and an unsafe fishing status. For Schaefer and BSM, the calculated F/FMSY values were 1.07 and 1.06, and the B/BMSY values were 0.92 and 0.75, which also indicate the overexploited status of the sardine fishery in the BoB, Bangladesh. This information will aid in developing management strategies and conservation policies for the sustainability and rebuilding of this commercially important resource in the BoB on the Bangladesh coast. Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome (BRPS) is a genetic condition resulting from truncating variants in the ASXL3 gene. The clinical features include neurodevelopmental and language impairments, behavioral issues, hypotonia, feeding difficulties, and distinctive facial features. In this retrospective study, we analyzed 22 Spanish individuals with BRPS, aiming to perform a detailed clinical and molecular description and establish a genotype-phenotype correlation. We identified 19 ASXL3 variants, nine of which are novel. We documented recurrence in nontwin siblings due to parental mosaicism. The predominant prenatal finding was intrauterine growth restriction (35%) followed, after birth, by feeding difficulties (90.5%), hypotonia (85.7%), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (82.4%). Later in life, intellectual disability, language impairment, autism spectrum disorder (75%), and joint laxity (73.7%) were noted. Individuals with variants in the 3' mutational cluster region (MCR) of exon 12 exhibited more perinatal feeding problems, and those with variants in the 5' MCR of exon 11 displayed lower percentiles in height and occipitofrontal circumference, as well as higher frequency of arched eyebrows. As one of the largest and most commercially valuable finfish species, Leptomelanosomaindicum (Indian salmon) significantly contributes to Bangladesh's marine catches. The length-based Bayesian biomass (LBB) method and catch-based Monte Carlo method (CMSY) are among the most recent and powerful methods for predicting the state of fisheries resources from data-limited fisheries. CMSY requires catch and resilience data, as well as quantitative stock status information. For LBB, only length–frequency (LF) data are required. The stock status of L. indicum was estimated using these two independent methods, utilizing twenty-one years of catch–effort and length–frequency data (978 individuals) from commercial fisheries on the Bangladesh coast. Here, a BSM (Bayesian state-space implementation of the Schaefer surplus production model) was also employed. The current study's findings showed that the B/B0 ratio of currently exploited biomass to unexploited biomass (0.1) was smaller than BMSY/B0 (0.36) and B/BMSY = 0.28 was smaller than the reference value of 1.0, indicating the grossly overfished and depleted condition of the stock. Similar trends in the results were found for B/BMSY = 0.11 (<1.0) from CMSY. In addition, the exploitation rate (F/FMSY = 5.66), biomass (B < BMSY), and fishing status (F > FMSY) further justify the severely overfished conditions of L. indicum stock in the study area. Furthermore, the Lc_opt (optimal length at first capture) was higher than the Lc (length at first capture), indicating that this species is being overfished, and that mesh sizes should be increased for better management. This study provides information on biological reference points (BRPs), and confirms the severely overfished status of L. indicum in the coastal waters of Bangladesh. Este trabalho analisa as climatologias da temperatura do ar e da precipitação da Bacia do rio Paraíba do Sul (BRPS), localizada na Região Sudeste do Brasil. A precipitação anual varia entre 1000 mm no norte do estado do Rio de Janeiro e 2000 mm sobre a Serra da Mantiqueira. Aproximadamente 80% da precipitação da bacia concentra-se nos meses de outubro a março, sugerindo um regime monçônico na região. A média anual da temperatura média diária varia entre 16°C no extremo sudoeste e 22°C no extremo norte da BRPS. Essa grande variação se deve a localização da BRPS na região de transição entre latitudes médias e tropicais. O efeito da passagem de frentes frias sobre a temperatura e o efeito da atuação da Zona de Convergência do Atlântico Sul sobre a precipitação podem ser observados na distribuição espacial e temporal das variáveis estudadas

The study aimed at widening the clinical and genetic spectrum of ASXL3‐related syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder, caused by truncating variants in the ASXL3 gene. In this international collaborative study, we have undertaken a detailed clinical and molecular analysis of 45 previously unpublished individuals with ASXL3‐related syndrome, as well as a review of all previously published individuals. We have reviewed the rather limited functional characterization of pathogenic variants in ASXL3 and discuss current understanding of the consequences of the different ASXL3 variants. In this comprehensive analysis of ASXL3‐related syndrome, we define its natural history and clinical evolution occurring with age. We report familial ASXL3 pathogenic variants, characterize the phenotype in mildly affected individuals and discuss nonpenetrance. We also discuss the role of missense variants in ASXL3. We delineate a variable but consistent phenotype. The most characteristic features are neurodevelopmental delay with consistently limited speech, significant neuro‐behavioral issues, hypotonia, and feeding difficulties. Distinctive features include downslanting palpebral fissures, hypertelorism, tubular nose with a prominent nasal bridge, and low‐hanging columella. The presented data will inform clinical management of individuals with ASXL3‐related syndrome and improve interpretation of new ASXL3 sequence variants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The brownbanded bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) is a benthic shark species distributed in Southeast Asia. The species has been listed as "Near Threatened" by the IUCN, but only based on indirect information. In this study, yield per recruit (YPR) and spawning per recruit (SPR) analyses were conducted to determine the current stock status. Data were obtained from three major landing sites of this species: Sihanoukville, Cambodia (Sv); Songkhla, Thailand (Sk); and Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia (KK). The von Bertalanffy growth curve parameters L∞ and K were estimated as 81.62 cm and 0.37 year-1 for Sv, 88.09 cm and 0.51 year-1 for Sk, and 86.48 cm and 0.40 year-1 for KK. The YPR and SPR analyses showed that the Fcurr, F0.1, and F30% were 0.29, 0.26, and 0.21 year-1 for Sv; 0.39, 0.23, and 0.23 year-1 for Sk; and 0.06, 0.24, and 0.24 year-1 for KK. The results indicate that the fishery for brownbanded bamboo sharks in KK is efficient and sustainable, but in Sv and Sk, harvest is nearing inefficiency, and fishing mortality cannot sustainably be increased from the current level. Bromophenols (BRPs) have been widely detected in human tissues, however, relative proportions from natural products and/or anthropogenic flame retardants are not clear. 21 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 15 MeO/OH-PBDEs, and 10 BRPs were simultaneously quantified in adipose collected from people from New York City, USA. An in vitro assay utilizing human liver microsomes was performed for detected predominant organobromine. High concentrations of 2,4,6-triBRP and PBDEs were observed, and extremely low concentrations of naturally occurring MeO/OH-PBDEs were detected. Similar biotransformatioin rates of BRPs and MeO/OH-PBDEs indicated that the relative high concentration of 2,4,6-triBRP in humans was not of natural origin. Significant correlation observed between concentrations of 2,4,6-triBRP and BDE-209 suggested that the two chemicals may share a common source. Both 2,4,6-triBRP and BDE-209 were detected in commercial ABS resins, suggesting that plastic products made from ABS resins could be potential sources of co-exposure of the two compounds for humans. Bainbridge-Ropers syndrome (BRPS) or additional sex combs-like 3 (ASXL3)-related disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a de novo missense mutation in the ASXL3 gene found on chromosome 18. The number of BRPS cases recorded to date is less than 100. In this report, a six-year-old Texan boy with global developmental delay, aggressive behavior, insomnia, microcephaly, strabismus, facial dysmorphic features, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), bilateral congenital renal dysplasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hypotonia, failure to thrive, dysphagia, and status post-gastrostomy tube was referred to Children's Health in Dallas for evaluation. The patient shares a chromosomal abnormality with his father that did not explain his clinical findings. Therefore, further tests were indicated and a whole-exome gene sequencing revealed a de novo pathogenic heterozygous mutation in the ASXL3 gene in chromosome 18q12.1 associated with autosomal dominant BRPS. To our knowledge, this is the first case of BRPS with bilateral congenital renal dysplasia and may be correlated to the presence of the ASXL3 gene in renal tissue. Abstract: A method using high performance liquid chromatography–electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC–ESI-MS/MS) in positive ion mode was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 30 phenolic compounds, including four estrogens, bisphenol A (BPA), 10 hydroxylated polybrominated dephenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) and 15 bromophenols (BRPs), in blood plasma. In the present method, derivatization with dansyl chloride was employed, and all the derivertized target compounds were well resolved on a 100mm Xbridge C18 column with acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid as the mobile phases. Purification procedures, such as liquid–liquid extraction and silica-gel chromatography, were applied to reduce matrix effects in the sample extract and remove excess derivatizing reagents, thus permitting selective and sensitive detection of the target phenolic compounds. The limit of quantification for all analytes, with a signal-to-noise ratio of ∼10, was 2–30pg/g (plasma weight) except for 6-OH-BDE-137 (30pg/g) and 3-BRP (60pg/g). The method was validated for recoveries (68–100%), accuracy (84–110%) and precision (3.7–11%) using charcoal-stripped bovine blood plasma spiked with all target compounds (500 and 5000pg/mL). Finally, the method was applied to analyze six blood plasma samples from frogs and cormorants, where two natural estrogens, one BPA, one OH-PBDE and four BRPs were detected. The greatest total concentrations of estrogens coincided with the least total concentrations of other phenolic compounds for both species. The proposed method based on derivatization followed by LC–MS/MS provides a novel method to simultaneously monitor multiple groups of phenolic compounds in blood plasma. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Bainbridge-Ropers syndrome (BRPS) [OMIM#615485] is a neurodevelopmental disorder, characterized by delayed psychomotor development with generalized hypotonia, intellectual disability with poor or absent speech, feeding difficulties, growth failure, specific craniofacial and minor skeletal features. It was firstly reported in 2013 by Bainbridge et al., who observed a group of individuals sharing overlapping features with Bohring-Opitz syndrome which were caused by pathogenic variant in ASXL1 , who indeed carried truncating mutations in ASXL3. To date, 33 cases were described in the literature. BRPS is caused by loss-of-function mutations in ASXL3 which are mostly located in two mutational cluster regions (MCR). The exact molecular mechanism of these mutations resulting in the disease phenotype is still uncertain due to the observation of LOF mutations in healthy population. Here, we report four individuals with BRPS carrying de novo LOF mutations in ASXL3, comparing and summarizing the clinical phenotype of all BRPS reported so far. A method to estimate F msy and its proxies based on survey indices of stock size and recruitment was developed and tested on simulated data sets and on five real stocks in the Baltic and Celtic Sea. The considered stocks were stocks with full analytical assessments (to compare the F msy estimates of the method with available analytical estimates), two stocks with assessments considered indicative of trends only, and one fully data-limited stock. The method combined yield-per-recruit (YPR) and spawning stock-per-recruit (SPR) analysis with survey-based stock-recruitment relationships. Various levels of uncertainty in the survey data and stock-recruitment relationships were considered in the tests. Tests on simulated data sets showed very low differences (no more than 0.01 for medians of estimates) between the generated F msy and F 40%SSB (F for which the stock is reduced to 40% of the unfished stock) and respective estimates from survey-based methods. For sprat and herring in the Baltic Sea, the F msy estimates using the proposed method and survey data were comparable to the F msy based on analytical stock assessments. The method provided closer estimates of F msy than F msy proxies such as F 0.1 , F 40% , and the F max from YPR and SPR analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
