Developing highly efficient methane (CH4) hydrate storage methods and understanding the hydrate dissociation kinetics can contribute to advancing CH4 gas storage and transport. The effects of tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) (a thermodynamic promoter) addition on the kinetics of CH4 hydrate were evaluated on the microscopic scale using synchrotron x-ray computed tomography (CT) and powder x-ray diffraction. Microscopic observations showed that a 5 wt. % TBAB solution facilitated the nucleation of CH4 hydrate owing to the initial growth of TBAB semi-clathrate hydrate particles. The CH4 hydrate crystals in the CH4 + TBAB hydrate sample were sponge-like with many internal pores and exhibited slightly enhanced self-preservation compared to the pure CH4 hydrate, both in the bulk and after pulverization to a fine powder. This study demonstrates the feasibility of controlling the rate of CH4 hydrate formation and preservation by using aqueous TBAB solutions in CH4 hydrate formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photochemical multi-component coupling reactions initiated by the activation of glycosyl bromides in the presence of 1,4-bis(diphenylamino)benzene (BDB) as an organic photocatalyst were developed. C-glycosides accompanied by olefin (di)functionalization were obtained. This method allows us to access various C-glycosides with alkene, carbonyl, alcohol, ether, and amide functionalities. (Hetero)biaryls are fundamental building blocks in the pharmaceutical industry and rapid access to these scaffolds is imperative for the success of numerous medicinal chemistry campaigns. Herein, a highly general, mild, and chemoselective reductive cross‐electrophile coupling between (hetero)aryl iodides and heteroaryl bromides is reported. By employing more reactive (hetero)aryl halides, a broad range of successful substrates (45 examples) were identified. The reaction was also found to be chemoselective for C(sp2)‐C(sp2) bond formation between (hetero)aryl iodides and bromides over (hetero)aryl chlorides, which were generally inert under the described reaction conditions. The efficiency of the procedure is also further demonstrated in parallel synthesis library format, on gram scale, as well as in the formal synthesis of Ruxolitinib, a potent JAK inhibitor. Objective: To explore the clinical effect of various doses of Budesonide combined with Tiotropium bromide in the treatment of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: Clinical data of elderly patients with COPD, admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Shaoxing University from April 2021 to February 2023, were retrospectively analyzed. Based on the dosage of Budesonide combined with Tiotropium bromide, patients were divided into Low-dose group (Budesonide = 1mg), Medium-dose group (Budesonide = 2mg), and High-dose group (Budesonide = 3mg). All groups were matched for age, gender, course of disease, and BMI. Patients treated with Tiotropium bromide alone were assigned to the Control group. The clinical effect, pulmonary function index level, symptom improvement, inflammatory factor index level and adverse reactions in all groups were analyzed and compared. Results: A total of 88 patients were included in this study with 22 patients in each group. The total efficacy of Medium-dose (90.91%) and High-dose group (90.91%) was significantly higher than that of Low-dose group (63.64%) and the Control group (59.09%) (P<0.05). After the treatment, levels of pulmonary function, symptom improvement and inflammatory factors in the High-dose and the Medium-dose groups were better than those in the Low-dose group and the Control group. Pulmonary function, symptom improvement and levels of inflammatory factors was significantly better in the Low-dose group compared to the Control group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Budesonide combined with tiotropium bromide is better than tiotropium bromide alone in the treatment of elderly patients with COPD. Compared with low (1mg) dosage, medium (2mg) and high (3mg) dosage of budesonide are more effective in improving lung function, alleviating symptoms, reducing inflammatory response,, and are not associated with increased rate of adverse reactions. Improving the interfacial interaction between silica and rubber is always a key issue to be solved for silica‐filled rubbers. In this paper, composites are prepared by an in‐situ modification method using 1‐ethylpyridinium bromide ([EPy]Br) as the raw material, and the effect of its dosage on the interfacial interactions and macroscopic properties of silica‐filled natural rubber (NR) composites is investigated. The effect of [EPy]Br on silica dispersion and interfacial interaction between silica and NR is verified through rheological tests and calculations of glass layers. Compared with the original samples, composite performance is optimized when the usage amount is at 1phr which increases tensile strength by 5 MPa, enhances abrasion resistance by 24%, and shortens optimum curing time in half. This study is expected to provide a new strategy for improving the processability of silica‐containing composites while reducing energy consumption. The excitation-dependent emission properties of carbon dots (Cdots) are extensively reported, but their red emission is often weak, limiting their wider application. Here we introduce ethidium bromide, as a functional precursor with red emission, to enhance the red emission for Cdots, with comparable intensity at a broad wavelength range to multi-emission Cdots (M-Cdots). We found that Cdots prepared with ethidium bromide/ethylenediamine exhibited strong blue and red emission at 440 and 615 nm, with optimal excitation at 360 and 470 nm as M-Cdots, respectively, but the Cdots from single ethidium bromide (EB-Cdots) possessed weak red emission. M-Cdots exhibited a broad absorption band at 478 nm, but a band blue-shifted to 425 nm was observed for EB-Cdots, while no absorption was observed at 478–425 nm for the Cdots prepared with citric acid and ethylenediamine. Thus, we proposed that C=O and C=N formed a π-conjugation structure as the absorption band at 478 nm for the red emission of M-Cdots, as also confirmed with the excitation at 470 nm. Moreover, the π-conjugation structure is fragile and sensitive to harsh conditions, so red emission was difficult to observe for the Cdots prepared with citric acid/ethylenediamine or single ethidium bromide. M-Cdots possess two centers for blue and red emission with different structures. The dual emission was therefore used for ratiometric sensing with dichromate (Cr2O72−) and formaldehyde (HCHO) as the targets using the intensity ratio of the emissions at 615 and 440 nm. Due to the comparable intensity at a broad wavelength range, we designed encryption codes with five excitations at 360, 400, 420, 450, and 470 nm as the inputs, and the emission colors were used for information decoding. Bromide is the first effective antiseizure medication used in human medicine since the XIX century. Initially met with skepticism, bromide quickly gained enthusiasm within the medical field until being largely replaced by newer antiseizure medications with significantly fewer adverse effects in people. In veterinary medicine, bromide continues to be used in the management of epileptic patients for over 30  years, yet adverse effects can impact owners and patients alike. We sought to provide the general practitioner and veterinary neurologist with insightful information on both the positive and negative attributes of bromide, explore factors that may influence its desirability as an antiseizure medication in specific veterinary cases and elucidate its current role in modern epilepsy treatment for veterinary patients. It’s also our endeavor to discuss the current use as an alternative or add-on with other known antiseizure medications and potential future studies that might enhance our understanding and use of this medication. Trisulfide unit is widely found in natural products and has garnered attention due to the unique pharmacological and physiochemical properties. However, despite limited progress, widely applicable approaches for constructing unsymmetrical trisulfides have so far remain scarce. In this work, an easy‐to‐prepare, solid‐state and scalable reagent, S‐substituted sulphenylthiosulphate, has been developed for the divergent synthesis of unsymmetrical trisulfides. Alkyl electrophile substrates, including bromides, chlorides, iodides and tosylates, with diverse substituents are smoothly converted to the corresponding trisulfides with S‐substituted sulphenylthiosulphates and thiourea as another sulfur source. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of cationic liposomal neostigmine bromide (NB), a novel drug delivery system, for the treatment of detrusor underactivity. By comparing the characteristics of NB‐liposomes (NLP), NB‐β‐cyclodextrin inclusion complex liposomes (NCLP), and NB‐mesoporous silica nanoparticle@CaCO3 liposomes (NMCLP), NMCLP is selected as the main research subject. It has an average particle size and zeta potential of 100 nm and +50 mV, and its encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of NB are 14.75% and 12.8%, respectively. Most importantly, NMCLP shows the best in vitro release performance among the three liposomes, demonstrating its ability in sustained release of NB. During cell and animal assays, efficient cellular uptake of liposomes through liposome‐specific pathways is observed, facilitating targeted drug delivery, and in vivo experiments demonstrate the efficacy of NMCLP in improving bladder function in mice. Urodynamic measurements show increased bladder capacity and reduced voiding pressure, indicating enhanced bladder muscle activity. Histological analysis reveals the distribution and deep penetration of NMCLP within bladder tissues, supporting its localized drug effect. Therefore, NMCLP holds promise as a targeted and effective therapeutic strategy for detrusor underactivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There exist some perovskites materials with no photoluminescence (PL), which will greatly limit the practical applications in photodetection, display and lighting. Here, we achieve an exotic pressure-induced emission (PIE) at a mild pressure of 0.8 GPa from initially non-emissive 2D all-inorganic perovskite Cs3Sb2Br9 quantum dots, when the sample was subjected to external pressure. With the increase of pressure, the PL intensity gradually increases and the emission color transforms from red to green. Combined with subsequent experiments and computations, thus PIE behavior and piezochromism result from the SbBr6 octahedral distortion, accompanied by a structural phase transition from trigonal to monoclinic under pressure. Our work provides a robust strategy to boost the emission efficiency and to construct multi-functional PIE materials with piezochromism in environmentally friendly perovskites, thus facilitating the diverse applications in futural practices. A sensitive, rapid, efficient, inexpensive, and easy-to-use vortex-assisted eutectic solvent microextraction process was extended to quantify Ponceau-4R (PN4R) in beverage samples followed by spectrophotometric detection. Here, a green solvent consisting of tetrabutylammonium bromide: n-octanol at a ratio of 1:3 was tested in the PN4R microextraction process. Also, different parameters affecting PN4R quantification through deep eutectic solvent in the microextraction model, including microliter volumes of extraction solvent, concentration of salt, extraction time, and pH were studied using multivariate procedures. Using this model, the maximum response was achieved with a eutectic solvent volume of 262 μL, extraction time of 5.3 min, pH 6.7, and 0.9% salt with Desirability = 1. The linear range was determined in optimum conditions to be from 15 to 1200 μg L−1. The enrichment factor and limit of detection were achieved to be 50-fold and 4.5 μg L−1, respectively. The limit of quantitation was 15 μg L−1. To monitor PN4R, this model has been used in fruit juice samples with favorable recoveries in the range of 97.8%–101%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis. Current therapies are unsatisfactory and novel cures are urgently needed. In a previous drug screening, we identified thonzonium bromide (TB) as one of the most active compounds against MPM cells. Since the biological effects of TB are poorly known, in this work we departed from some hints of previous studies and investigated several hypotheses. Moreover, we evaluated the efficacy of TB in an in vivo xenograft rodent model. Methods: In vitro assessment was made on five MPM (Mero-14, Mero-25, Ren, NCI-H28, MSTO-211H) and one SV40-immortalized mesothelial cell line (MeT-5A). We evaluated TB ability to affect proliferation, apoptosis, mitochondrial functions and metabolism, and the mevalonate pathway. In vivo assay was carried out on MPM-xenograft NOD-SCID mice (4 mg/kg delivered intraperitoneally, twice a week for 4 weeks) and the overall survival was analysed with Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: After TB treatment, we observed the suppression of ERK 1/2 phosphorylation, the increase of BAX expression and p38 phosphorylation. TB affected Ca2+ homeostasis in both mitochondrial and cytosolic compartments, it regulated the mitochondrial functioning, respiration, and ATP production as well as the mevalonate pathway. The in vivo study showed an increased overall survival for TB treated group vs. vehicle control group (P = 0.0076). Conclusions: Both in vitro and in vivo results confirmed the effect of TB on MPM and unravelled novel targets with translational potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of synthesizing 2,5‐diformylfuran (DFF) from sucrose involves three sequential steps: hydrolyzing sucrose into fructose and glucose, dehydrating fructose into 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and subsequently converting HMF into DFF. In this study, various potassium salts and metal bromides, as well as carbohydrates and solvents, were screened for the production of DFF. It was found that KBr was the optimal catalyst for the one‐pot, one‐step conversion of sucrose to DFF. The influences of reaction time, temperature, reactant/solvent ratio, and reactant/catalyst ratio were also completely investigated for process optimization. HMF from the sucrose hydrolysis and fructose dehydration was oxidized thoroughly to DFF. The maximum DFF yield of 62.5 % was achieved after 6 h at 140 °C in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with sucrose/KBr weight ratio=5.75 and sucrose/DMSO weight ratio=0.104 as the catalyst in the absence of any additives. The large‐scale process was also tested, the main product was isolated by column chromatography and structurally characterized. By comparing the results of this study to previous ones, the process was proved to have benefits, including the utilization of accessible biomass material, available low‐cost catalyst, energy‐saving method, no oxidants or additives, short reaction time, and high DFF yield with 100 % HMF conversion.
