We report on the observation of longitudinal (in-plane) and transverse (out-of-plane) spin splitting of incident linearly polarized (p and s) light beams reflected at the interface of tungsten di-selenide, a monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide material deposited on a Si/SiO2 substrate, near the Brewster angle of incidence employing the quantum weak measurement technique. The amplified longitudinal and transverse shift values reach up to hundreds of micrometers. The transverse shift value, measured approximately at 400 μm, dominates over the longitudinal shift value at Brewster incidence. In this work, we found positive and negative shift values for the same angle of incidence but distinct polarization states revealing the explicit dependencies upon the angle of incidence and the post-selection angle. The modified weak measurement model provides an excellent interpretation of these experimental findings. This work, thus, provides novel insights into the effects of light–matter interactions and could find important applications in optical switches, nano-photonics, and the non-destructive study of material properties. In this research, we propose a simple and novel graphene-black phosphorus composite structure. Through the coupling mechanism of bright–bright mode, four layers of graphene and one layer of black phosphorus produce a quadruple plasmon-induced transparency (PIT) effect. The response of the proposed structure to the angle of polarized light is investigated, and it is found that the sensitivities of graphene and black phosphorus to the polarization angle of light are different. In addition, the dynamic regulation of PIT by the Fermi level of graphene and the carrier concentration of black phosphorus are discussed. The modulation depths of the fivefold optical switching are 96%, 99%, 87%, 93%, and 80%, respectively. The quadruple PIT can also be converted into triple PIT, in which single, dual, or triple optical switching are realized, respectively. Finally, with the change in the refractive index of the environment medium, the sensitivity response of the proposed structure is as high as 4.790 THz⋅RIU−1. J-aggregates, which are supramolecular assemblies that exhibit unique optical properties owing to their excitonic interactions, have potential applications in artificial light-harvesting systems and fluorescence biosensing. Although J-aggregates are formed in solution, in situ observations of their structures and behaviors in solution remain scarce. In this study, we investigated the J-aggregates of 1,1′-dioctadecyl-3,3,3′,3′-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate [DiIC18(3)] in methanol/water (M/W) binary solvents using fluorescence imaging as well as polarized absorption and fluorescence measurements to explore the relationship between their structure and macroscopic optical properties under static conditions. Fluorescence images revealed that the DiIC18(3) J-aggregates have fibrous structures in the M/W = 44/56 (v/v) binary solvent. We measured the polarization-angle dependence of the fluorescence intensity of the fibrous J-aggregates to determine the direction of their transition dipole moment. Furthermore, the J-band absorbance was dependent on the polarization angle of the linearly polarized incident light, even in the absence of an external force such as that generated by a flow or stirring, indicating that the J-aggregates "spontaneously" aligned in solution. We also monitored the time evolution of the degree of alignment of the fibrous J-aggregates, which revealed that the formation and elongation of the fibers induced their alignment, resulting in the observed macroscopic optical anisotropy in solution. We investigate the photonic spin Hall effect of a linearly polarized Gaussian beam reflected on the surface of twisted bilayer phosphorene. The photonic spin shift depends strongly on optical resonance behavior, which is determined by the twist angle. The magnified spin shift near the Brewster angle is sensitive to the twist angle and can be fitted by numerical models. In particular, the spin shifts in the terahertz region of frequency are well within the current experimental detection precision. Our findings suggest that the photonic spin Hall effect is promising for precise characterization of the optical property and the structure of twisted bilayer phosphorene. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a broadband metamaterial absorber consisting of the doped silicon substrate and the square array of doped silicon covered by a SU-8 layer is presented. The target structure achieves an average absorption of 94.42% in the studied frequency range (0.5–8 THz). In particular, the structure exceeds 90% absorption in the frequency range of 1.44–8 THz, which is a significant increase in bandwidth relative to reported devices of the same type. Next, the near-perfect absorption of the target structure is verified by the impedance matching principle. Furthermore, through the analysis of the electric field distribution inside the structure, the physical mechanism of its broadband absorption is investigated and explained. Finally, the impact of fluctuations in the incident angle, polarization angle, and structural parameters on the absorption efficiency is examined at length. The analysis shows that the structure has characteristics, such as polarization insensitivity, wide-angle absorption, and good process tolerance. Programmable metasurfaces show enormous potential in real-time electromagnetic (EM) manipulation and their stable responses to variable EM waves including incident angle and polarization changes are crucial for related applications. However, the demonstrated programmable metasurfaces are commonly considered in normal-incident waves with fixed polarization; how to achieve stable performance in more realistic scenarios of wide-angle and full-polarized wave incidences is still a challenge. Here, we propose and realize a wide-angle and full-polarization programmable metasurface, which can generate stabilized amplitude and phase responses at both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) oblique incidences. These are achieved by introducing metallic walls around the metasurface element to reduce element coupling, which greatly improves the angular stability of its reflection responses. The mechanisms of angular insensitivity are analyzed comprehensively, and as a proof of concept, obliquely-incident beam steering, large-angle beam scanning and oblique vortex beam emitting are demonstrated on this programmable metasurface. Both the simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the programmable metasurface can operate well at both TE and TM wide-angle oblique incidences in the upper half space. Our work offers an actual route for improving the angular stability and polarization insensitivity of metasurfaces, which could push them one step closer towards more complicated applications. The radiation mechanism underlying the prompt emission remains unresolved and can be resolved using a systematic and uniform time-resolved spectro-polarimetric study. In this paper, we investigated the spectral, temporal, and polarimetric characteristics of five bright gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) using archival data from AstroSat CZTI, Swift Burst Alert Telescope, and Fermi/GBM. These bright GRBs were detected by CZTI in its first year of operation, and their average polarization characteristics have been published in Chattopadhyay et al. In the present work, we examined the time-resolved (in 100–600 keV) and energy-resolved polarization measurements of these GRBs with an improved polarimetric technique such as increasing the effective area and bandwidth (by using data from low-gain pixels), using an improved event selection logic to reduce noise in the double events and extend the spectral bandwidth. In addition, we also separately carried out detailed time-resolved spectral analyses of these GRBs using empirical and physical synchrotron models. By these improved time-resolved and energy-resolved spectral and polarimetric studies (not fully coupled spectro-polarimetric fitting), we could pin down the elusive prompt emission mechanism of these GRBs. Our spectro-polarimetric analysis reveals that GRB 160623A, GRB 160703A, and GRB 160821A have Poynting flux-dominated jets. On the other hand, GRB 160325A and GRB 160802A have baryonic-dominated jets with mild magnetization. Furthermore, we observe a rapid change in polarization angle by ∼90° within the main pulse of very bright GRB 160821A, consistent with our previous results. Our study suggests that the jet composition of GRBs may exhibit a wide range of magnetization, which can be revealed by utilizing spectro-polarimetric investigations of the bright GRBs. This article presents a resistor‐loaded wideband absorber using a tightly coupled dipole structure. The conversional inherit wide bandwidth tightly coupled dipole which was used as an antenna is adopted as a unit cell. The port of the dipole is loaded with resistors to dissipate the microwave energy. The design principles of the absorber are given. An equivalent circuit model composed of an RLC resonant circuit is proposed to analyze the performance of the absorber. To demonstrate, a 288 mm × 288 mm absorber ranging from 1.96 to 8.08 GHz is fabricated and measured. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones which show that the absorber can work from 2 to 8.18 GHz with an absorption rate of more than 90%. Moreover, the proposed absorber is also insensitive to the polarization angle of the incident wave. When the incident angle changes from 0° to 45°, the absorption rate is nearly unchanged over the operating band. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A perfect metamaterial absorber (MMA) using a SiO2 substrate has been designed. The suggested absorber model was created by implementing graphene as a metallic layer for the structured patch and copper in the ground plane of the design. The geometry of the prescribed absorber was finalized by cutting the rectangular and circular slots and loading the open-ended dual rings on the structure. Furthermore, the approach based on equivalent circuit modeling (ECM) with mathematical analysis for the proposed MMA is thoroughly discussed. The simulation outcome (S11) obtained with the help of CST software has been compared with the ECM analysis result. The proposed absorber shows a perfect absorbance of 99.97% at the operating frequency of 6.15 THz. The absorption characteristics of the suggested structure have been parametrically investigated as a function of oblique incidence and polarization angles. Furthermore, the designed structure has been analyzed by using various substrates and conducting materials to achieve the optimal value of the absorption peak as a percentage. Overall, the compact, ultra-thin, simple geometry of the prescribed MMA with a high absorption peak and polarization-insensitive nature makes it a suitable choice for utilization in sensing, imaging, and detection in the terahertz regime. This paper presents a near‐field focused metasurface design method for microwave hyperthermia. Utilizing full‐wave electromagnetic simulation, a novel dual‐layer metasurface unit with the following characteristics is developed: transmission efficiency higher than −1 dB, adjustable transmission phase from 0° to 360°, and insensitivity to the polarization and incident angle of the incoming wave. Leveraging phase compensation theory, the units at different positions in the array to achieve near‐field focusing functionality is meticulously designed. To further optimize transmission efficiency, the transmission phase of the central unit of the metasurface to 76° is tuned. When applying this near‐field focused metasurface to microwave hyperthermia, the electromagnetic and thermal effects in biological tissues is conducted simulations and experiments to analyzed. The results demonstrate that the proposed metasurface can effectively focus microwave energy, achieving efficient microwave transmission in pork tissue and generating localized high temperatures in the target area. Our developed absorbing structure demonstrates the capability to achieve a substantial absorption bandwidth ranging from 3.78 to 4.25 THz, maintaining a consistent absorption rate of over 90%. Moreover, we conducted an analysis to assess its absorption performance under various sheet resistance values within the top layer. Additionally, we characterized its angular stability and polarization insensitivity through oblique incident and polarization angle analysis. Finally, an RLC circuital and interference theory approach is adopted to justify its simulated results. Acquiring multi-dimensional optical information, such as intensity, spectrum, polarization, and phase, can significantly enhance the performance of photodetectors. Incorporating these dimensions allows for improved image contrast, enhanced recognition capabilities, reduced interference, and better adaptation to complex environments. However, the challenge lies in obtaining these dimensions on a single photodetector. Here we propose a misaligned unipolar barrier photodetector based on van der Waals heterojunction to address this issue. This structure enables spectral detection by switching between two absorbing layers with different cut-off wavelengths for dual-band detection. For polarization detection, anisotropic semiconductors like black phosphorus and black arsenic phosphorus inherently possess polarization-detection capabilities without additional complex elements. By manipulating the crystal direction of these materials during heterojunction fabrication, the device becomes sensitive to incident light at different polarization angles. This research showcases the potential of the misaligned unipolar barrier photodetector in capturing multi-dimensional optical information, paving the way for next-generation photodetectors. Multi-dimensional detection of optical information with a single device enables energy- and area-efficient sensing capabilities. Nowadays, metamaterial absorbers still suffer from limited bandwidth, poor bandwidth scalability, and insufficient modulation depth. In order to solve this series of problems, we propose a metamaterial absorber based on graphene, VO2, gallium silver sulfide, and gold-silver alloy composites with dual-control modulation of temperature and electric field. Then we further investigate the optical switching performance of this absorber in this work. Our proposed metamaterial absorber has the advantages of broad absorption bandwidth, sufficient modulation depth, and good bandwidth scalability all together. Unlike the single inspired layer of previous designs, we innovatively adopted a multi-layer excitation structure, which can realize the purpose of absorption and bandwidth width regulation by a variety of means. Combined with the finite element analysis method, our proposed metamaterial absorber has excellent bandwidth scalability, which can be tuned from 2.7 THz bandwidth to 12.1 THz bandwidth by external electrothermal excitation. Meanwhile, the metamaterial absorber can also dynamically modulate the absorption from 3.8% to 99.8% at a wide incidence angle over the entire range of polarization angles, suggesting important potential applications in the field of optical switching in the terahertz range. The gamma-ray emitting narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies are a unique class of objects that launch powerful jets from relatively lower-mass black hole systems compared to the Blazars. However, the black hole masses estimated from the total flux spectrum suffer from the projection effect, making the mass measurement highly uncertain. The polarized spectrum provides a unique view of the central engine through scattered light. We performed spectropolarimetric observations of the gamma-ray emitting narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy 1H0323 + 342 using SPOL/MMT. The degree of polarization and polarization angle are 0.122 |$\pm$| 0.040 per cent and 142 |$\pm$| 9 degrees, while the H |$\alpha$| line is polarized at 0.265 |$\pm$| 0.280 per cent. We decomposed the total flux spectrum and estimated broad H |$\alpha$| full width at half maximum of 1015 km s |$^{-1}$| . The polarized flux spectrum shows a broadening similar to the total flux spectrum, with a broadening ratio of 1.22. The Monte Carlo radiative transfer code 'STOKES' applied to the data provides the best fit for a small viewing angle of 9–24 deg and a small optical depth ratio between the polar and the equatorial scatters. A thick broad-line region with significant scale height can explain a similar broadening of the polarized spectrum compared to the total flux spectrum with a small viewing angle. Plasmonic resonant and metamaterial structures allow for manipulating the polarization properties of electromagnetic waves to achieve polarization beam splitting. Broadband polarization‐sensitive metamaterial absorbers based on surface plasmon polaritons have the advantages of high‐energy utilization and excellent stability, which may replace traditional polarizing devices. Here, an absorber based on a ladder network construction is designed theoretically and investigated experimentally. The absorber can possess almost 92% average absorptivity for TM polarization light in 8–12 µm range (experimental result: 83% from 7 to 11 µm). It is especially sensitive to the polarization angle of incident light, and with the increase of polarization angle, the broadband absorption response can present analogously monotonous reduction. The theoretical and experimental results for TE polarization light are 12% and 25%, respectively. The broadband absorption response performs angle insensitive property under oblique incidence. The proposed metamaterial absorber opens a path to realize broadband polarization‐sensitive absorption based on simple nanostructure. The polarization information of incident light gets lost after passing through the scattering medium such as haze. This phenomenon, called depolarization, poses a challenge to polarization remote sensing of ships in sea-haze weather. In this paper, we propose the concept of ship polarization information restoration for the first time and propose a ship polarization information restoration method for the benefit of ship remote sensing in sea haze weather. The approach is based on the estimation of airlight, a component of hazy polarimetric images. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ship polarization information restoration method, we conduct an outdoor experiment on ship polarization information restoration in sea haze weather. Experimental results show that sea haze significantly degrades the degree of polarization of ships, but slightly affects the angle of polarization. At optical/ultraviolet energies, blazars display an underlying thermal (unpolarized) contribution from the accretion disc, torus, and line-emitting regions, diluting the polarized emission from the jet-component. Optical polarimetry can be used to disentangle the thermal and non-thermal components, and place constraints on the particle populations and acceleration mechanisms responsible for the non-thermal emission. We present the results of a linear optical spectropolarimetric observing campaign of 18 blazars (six BL Lac-type objects and 12 flat-spectrum radio quasars) undertaken with the Southern African Large Telescope between 2016 and 2022. This was done to observe these systems during flaring states, as well as long-term monitoring of PKS1510-089, AP Lib, and PKS 1034-293. The observations traced the frequency dependence of the degree and angle of polarization, as well as changes in the spectral line strengths. We investigated possible correlations between the polarization and other observed characteristics for the sources. While an indication of correlation was found between the frequency dependence and the average level of polarization for some sources, a correlation was not found for the population as a whole. These results highlight that continuous observations and in-depth modelling of polarization and its frequency dependence is required to obtain a more holistic view of TeV blazars. This article deals with the design, development and characterization of a broadband, wide incidence angle and polarization-insensitive metasurface, which consists of periodic resistive-ink pattern printed on top of FR-4 dielectric substrate as a RADAR absorber. Geometrical dimensions of the proposed unit cell have been optimized numerically using CST-Microwave Studio to achieve 99% absorptivity for X and Ku frequency spectrum (8–18 GHz) under the normal angle of incidence and to achieve almost 90% absorptivity under the oblique angle of incidence up to 50° within X-Band to Ku-Band spectrum. Furthermore, it is reported that by having fourfold rotation symmetry, the designed structure is insensitive to the polarization of the incident wave. An equivalent circuit analytical modeling has also been performed to understand and verify numerical findings that are nearly in agreement. The designed absorber is fabricated and characterized using ABmm VNA and free space measurement method, for both normal and oblique angle of incidence, and it is found that measured characteristics are in agreement with numerical-analytical findings. Furthermore, the monostatic and bistatic Radar Cross Section reduction capability of the designed absorbing structure for both planar and curved surface (cylinder) is studied extensively to assess its potential application in X-Band to Ku-Band Spectrum. In this review, we present a self-contained introduction to axion-like particles (ALPs) with a particular focus on their effects on photon polarization: both theoretical and phenomenological aspects are discussed. We derive the photon survival probability in the presence of photon–ALP interaction, the corresponding final photon degree of linear polarization, and the polarization angle in a wide energy interval. The presented results can be tested by current and planned missions such as IXPE (already operative), eXTP, XL-Calibur, NGXP, XPP in the X-ray band and like COSI (approved to launch), e-ASTROGAM, and AMEGO in the high-energy range. Specifically, we describe ALP-induced polarization effects on several astrophysical sources, such as galaxy clusters, blazars, and gamma-ray bursts, and we discuss their real detectability. In particular, galaxy clusters appear as very good observational targets in this respect. Moreover, in the very-high-energy (VHE) band, we discuss a peculiar ALP signature in photon polarization, in principle capable of proving the ALP existence. Unfortunately, present technologies cannot detect photon polarization up to such high energies, but the observational capability of the latter ALP signature in the VHE band could represent an interesting challenge for the future. As a matter of fact, the aim of this review is to show new ways to make progress in the physics of ALPs, thanks to their effects on photon polarization, a topic that has aroused less interest in the past, but which is now timely with the advent of many new polarimetric missions. SUMMARY: This study examines the topographic effect on the body-wave polarization and, subsequently, on near-surface wave speed estimation. We first derive 3-D P- and S-wave polarization angles in the presence of ground tilt, where the angles are functions of the ground tilt orientation, the near-surface wave speeds and the incident wave direction. We find that S-wave polarization angle varies considerably (e.g. more than 100 per cent) when the incident angle is close to the critical angle. The counter-intuitive phenomenon for flat surface, that is, P-wave polarization being only sensitive to S but not P wave speeds, breaks down in the presence of ground tilt, and P-wave polarization becomes sensitive to both P and S wave speeds. Examining the differences in the inferred wave speeds with and without the flat-surface assumption reveals that bias in wave speed estimates is, in general, higher for smaller incident angles, for example, about 50 per cent or higher for a 15° ground tilt and near-vertical (<5°) incidence. The effect on P wave speed estimates is also significant when the S-wave incident angle approaches the critical angle. In order to investigate the topographic effect on wave speed estimates inferred using teleseismic polarization data, we revisit the near-surface wave speed estimates at Hi-net stations from a previous study that did not account for the topography. Based on the ground tilt and strike angles measured for each Hi-net site at 300-m scale—which is found to be the most relevant scale—we constrain P and S wave speeds utilizing the P-wave polarization data. We find that P-wave polarization data alone can effectively constrain not only S but also P wave speeds, especially when the ground tilt is sufficiently large (e.g. >5°). Furthermore, our additional test suggests that including S-wave polarization data with the tilt consideration will improve the near-surface wave speed estimates significantly compared to when the tilt effect is ignored. Metasurfaces have emerged as a unique group of two-dimensional ultra-compact subwavelength devices for perfect wave absorption due to their exceptional capabilities of light modulation. Nonetheless, achieving high absorption, particularly with multi-band broadband scalability for specialized scenarios, remains a challenge. As an example, the presence of atmospheric windows, as dictated by special gas molecules in different infrared regions, highly demands such scalable modulation abilities for multi-band absorption and filtration. Herein, by leveraging the hybrid effect of Fabry–Perot resonance, magnetic dipole resonance and electric dipole resonance, we achieved multi-broadband absorptivity in three prominent infrared atmospheric windows concurrently, with an average absorptivity of 87.6% in the short-wave infrared region (1.4–1.7 μm), 92.7% in the mid-wave infrared region (3.2–5 μm) and 92.4% in the long-wave infrared region (8–13 μm), respectively. The well-confirmed absorption spectra along with its adaptation to varied incident angles and polarization angles of radiations reveal great potential for fields like infrared imaging, photodetection and communication. Actively tunable ultrafast broadband terahertz (THz) polarimetry using a reconfigurable phase‐change material holds great potentials and prospects for the achievement of next‐generation versatile integrated THz components and systems in a variety of THz applications. Here, an optically tunable ultrafast broadband THz polarimetric device (THz‐PoD) composed of a phase‐change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) and a thin mica substrate is demonstrated. This proposed novel THz‐PoD is verified for a frequency range of 0.1–2.5 THz, exhibiting broadband and ultrafast determination of polarization states for linearly polarized THz waves at polarization angles from −90° to 90°. It is shown that optical excitation with ns pulses allows easy and efficient control of the polarimetric properties of such THz‐PoD. The essential role of the GST film in switching the phase transition between the amorphous and crystalline phases is emphasized by the theoretical investigation of the optically tunable ultrafast polarimetric mechanism of the device. This phase transition allows optically changing the THz‐PoD's properties by ns‐pulsed laser in a controlled way to achieve THz polarimetry for linearly polarized THz waves. The combined advantages of this strategy can open up a new and promising way for realizing versatile reconfigurable and integrated THz devices, which may further promote the development of novel THz systems and applications. Polarimetric imaging technology plays a crucial role in de-scattering, particularly in the field of underwater image restoration. Circularly polarized light (or the underlying circular polarization memory effect) has been proven to better preserve the polarization characteristics of detected light. Utilizing circularly polarized light as illumination can further enhance the effectiveness of polarization de-scattering techniques. After rethinking the advantages of circularly polarized light, this paper proposes a new method for underwater polarimetric imaging restoration that leverages the pre-processing of polarized sub-images and the correlation of polarization characteristics (i.e., the angle of polarization and degree of polarization). Additionally, to address the challenge of selecting scattering light parameters due to uneven light fields in target scenes, an intensity adjustment factor search algorithm is designed. This algorithm eliminates the need for the manual selection of scattering light parameters, effectively solving the problem of uneven illumination in restoration results. Radiation from X-ray pulsars (XRPs) was expected to be strongly linearly polarized owing to a large difference in their ordinary and extraordinary mode opacities. The launch of IXPE allowed us to check this prediction. IXPE observed a dozen X-ray pulsars, discovering pulse-phase dependent variation of the polarization degree (PD) and polarization angle (PA). Although the PD showed rather erratic profiles resembling flux pulse dependence, the PA in most cases showed smooth variations consistent with the rotating vector model (RVM), which can be interpreted as a combined effect of vacuum birefringence and dipole magnetic field structure at a polarization-limiting (adiabatic) radius. Application of the RVM allowed us to determine XRP geometry and to confirm the free precession of the NS in Her X-1. Deviations from RVM in two bright transients led to the discovery of an unpulsed polarized emission likely produced by scattering off the accretion disk wind. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A Dualband Pass Frequency Selective Structure (DPSFSS) with miniaturized elements is proposed in this article. The miniaturized elements induce high inductance and capacitance values. The meandered line concept is used which extensively increases inductance of the dipole element. Very large capacitance is obtained between two meandered elements which have wide common area perpendicular to electric field for wave propagating in Z-direction. Two pass band poles and two zeros are obtained by perpendicular arrangement of meandered patterns on two sides of the substrate. Orthogonal arrangement of patterns ensure polarization symmetry (polarization insensitive) for Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) modes of exciting wave. Two pass band pole frequencies are positioned at 1.84 GHz and 4.53 GHz with low Insertion Losses (IL) of 0.67 dB and 1 dB, respectively. The lower and higher frequency bands have factional bandwidths of 41 % and 46 %, respectively. The transmission nulls occupy 2.8 GHz and 6.58 GHz frequencies. The structure is miniaturized to 0.032λ0 × 0.032λ0 dimensions with respect to lowest resonance residing at 1.83 GHz. The low IL at both pass bands is realized despite of using a lossy FR-4 material that can be improved to less than 0.5 dB at both the bands using less lossy materials such as F4BME or RO4003C. The proposed DPSFSS design is elaborated using Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) and Surface Current Distribution (SCD). Measurements are performed on fabricated DPSFSS prototype and it is observed that the measured results coincide well with the simulated response. Angle stability of the DPSFSS is excellent and no unwanted resonances are observed at oblique angles upto 80° for dual polarizations of wave. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metasurface absorbers have shown significant potential in stealth applications due to their adaptability and capacity to reduce the backscattering of electromagnetic (EM) waves. Nevertheless, due to the materials used in the terahertz (THz) range, simultaneously achieving excellent stealth performance in ultrawideband remains an important and difficult challenge to overcome. In this study, an ultrawideband absorber is proposed based on indium tin oxide (ITO) and polyethylene-terephthalate (PET), with a structure thickness of only 0.16λ. ITO sheets are utilized to achieve broad-spectrum, optical transparency and flexibility of the metasurface. The results show that absorption higher than 90% can be achieved in the frequency band ranging from 1.75 to 5 THz under normal TE and TM polarizations, which covers a wide THz band. The structure is insensitive to polarization angles and exhibits 97% relative bandwidth above 90% efficiency up to an oblique incident angle of 60°. To further validate the efficiency of the absorption performance, the radar cross-section (RCS) reduction investigation was performed on both planar and conformal configurations. The findings show that under normal incidence EM waves, both flat and curved surfaces can achieve RCS reduction of over 10 dB, covering an extremely wide frequency range of 1.75 to 5 THz. Supermassive black holes disrupt passing stars, producing outbursts called tidal disruption events (TDEs). TDEs have recently gained attention due to their unique dynamics and emission processes, which are still not fully understood. Especially, the so-called optical TDEs are of interest as they often exhibit delayed or obscured X-ray emission from the accretion disc, making the origin of the prompt emission unclear. In this paper, we present multiband optical polarization observations and optical spectrometry of a recent TDE candidate AT 2022fpx, alongside monitoring observations in optical, ultraviolet, and X-rays. The optical spectra of AT 2022fpx show Bowen fluorescence as well as highly ionized iron emission lines, which are characteristic of extreme coronal line emitters. Additionally, the source exhibits variable but low-polarized continuum emission at the outburst peak, with a clear rotation of the polarization angle. X-ray emission observed approximately 250 d after the outburst peak in the decay appear flare-like but is consistent with constant temperature blackbody emission. The overall outburst decay is slower than for typical TDEs, and resembles more the ones seen from Bowen fluorescence flares. These observations suggest that AT 2022fpx could be a key source in linking different long-lived TDE scenarios. Its unique characteristics, such as extreme coronal line emission, variable polarization, and delayed X-ray flare, can be attributed to the outer shock scenario or a clumpy torus surrounding the supermassive black hole. Further studies, especially in the context of multiwavelength observations, are crucial to fully understand the dynamics and emission mechanisms of these intriguing astrophysical events. The time-integrated polarization degree (PD) in the prompt optical band of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) was predicted to be less than 20%, while the time-resolved one can reach as high as 75% in the photosphere model. Polarizations in the optical band during the GRB prompt phase have not previously been studied in the framework of the magnetic reconnection model. Here, a three-segment power law of the energy spectrum is used to reconstruct the Stokes parameters of the magnetic reconnection model. Multiwavelength light curves and polarization curves from the optical band to MeV gamma rays in the GRB prompt phase are studied. We found that, depending mainly on the jet dynamics, there is a long-lasting high-PD phase in all calculated energy bands for the typical parameter sets. The time-resolved PD could be as high as 50%, while the time-integrated one is roughly 17% in the optical band. The time-resolved PD in X-rays can reach 60% and the time-integrated one is around 30%–40%. The evolution of polarization angle (PA) is random in both optical and gamma-ray bands for the photosphere model, while it is roughly constant in the synchrotron models. Therefore, future time-resolved PA observations in the prompt optical or gamma-ray band could distinguish between the photosphere and synchrotron models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims. Recent observations of core-collapse supernovae (SNe) suggest aspherical explosions. Globally, aspherical structures in SN explosions are thought to encode information regarding the underlying explosion mechanism. However, the exact explosion geometries from the inner cores to the outer envelopes are poorly understood. Methods. Here, we present photometric, spectroscopic, and polarimetric observations of the Type IIP SN 2021yja and discuss its explosion geometry in comparison to those of other Type IIP SNe that show large-scale aspherical structures in their hydrogen envelopes (SNe 2012aw, 2013ej and 2017gmr). Results. During the plateau phase, SNe 2012aw and 2021yja exhibit high continuum polarization characterized by two components with perpendicular polarization angles. This behavior can be interpreted as being due to a bipolar explosion, where the SN ejecta is composed of a polar (energetic) component and an equatorial (bulk) component. In such a bipolar explosion, an aspherical axis created by the polar ejecta would dominate at early phases, while the perpendicular axis along the equatorial ejecta would emerge at late phases after the photosphere in the polar ejecta has receded. Our interpretation of the explosions in SNe 2012aw and 2021yja as bipolar is also supported by other observational properties, including the time evolution of the line velocities and the line shapes in the nebular spectra. The polarization of other Type IIP SNe that show large-scale aspherical structures in the hydrogen envelope (SNe 2013ej and 2017gmr) is also consistent with the bipolar-explosion scenario, although this is not conclusive. Context. A peculiar subtype of Type Ia supernovae (SNe), 03fg-like (super-Chandrasekhar) SNe, show different observational properties from prototypical Type Ia SNe: they typically have high luminosities at the light-curve peak, low expansion velocities, and strong carbon features. The origin of this class of Type Ia SNe has been actively debated. Recent nebular-phase infrared observations of the 03fg-like Type Ia SN 2022pul using the James Webb Space Telescope revealed large-scale asymmetries in the ejecta and the presence of the strong [Ne II] line at 12.81 μm, suggesting a violent merger of two white dwarfs as its origin. Aims. Polarimetry is another powerful tool for studying the overall ejecta asymmetries of spatially unresolved SNe. Here, we aim to check the universality of the violent merger scenario as the origin of 03fg-like Type Ia SNe, by studying their explosion geometries using polarimetry. Methods. In this Letter we present imaging-polarimetric observations of the two 03fg-like Type Ia SNe 2021zny and 2022ilv. Results. SNe 2021zny and 2022ilv show high intrinsic polarization (∼1%–∼2%), which might be composed of multiple components with different polarization angles. This indicates that they have complex aspherical structures in their ejecta, supporting the violent merger scenario for their origin. Context. Quantifying the number density and physical characteristics of extragalactic polarized sources is important for the successful planning of future studies based on Faraday rotation measure (RM) grids of polarized sources to probe foreground Galactic and intergalactic magnetic fields. However, it is proving very hard to detect polarized signal from the population of very faint (sub-mJy) polarized sources at low radio frequencies, and their properties are mostly unknown. LOFAR can play an important role in such studies thanks to its sensitivity and angular resolution, combined with the precision on the inferred RM values that can be achieved through low-frequency broad-band polarimetry. Aims. The aim of this study is to probe the sub-mJy polarized source population with LOFAR. In this first paper, we present the method used to stack LOFAR polarization datasets, the resulting catalog of polarized sources, and the derived polarized source counts. Methods. The European Large Area ISO Survey-North 1 (ELAIS-N1) field, one of the deepest of the LOFAR Two-Metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) Deep Fields so far, was selected for a polarimetric study at 114.9–177.4 MHz. A total area of 25 deg2 was imaged at 6″-resolution in the Stokes Q and U parameters. Alignment of polarization angles was done both in frequency and in Faraday space before stacking datasets from 19 eight-hour-long epochs taken in two different LOFAR observing cycles. A search for polarized sources was carried out in the final, stacked dataset, and the properties of the detected sources were examined. The depolarization level of sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz was quantified. Results. A one-sigma noise level, σQU, of 19 µJy beam−1 was reached in the central part of the field after stacking. Twenty-five polarized sources were detected above 8σQU, five of which had not been detected in polarization at any other radio frequencies before. Seven additional polarized components were found by lowering the threshold to 6σQU at positions corresponding to sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz. In two radio galaxies, polarization was detected from both radio lobes, so the final number of associated radio continuum sources is 31. The detected sources are weakly polarized, with a median degree of polarization of 1.75% for the sample of sources detected in polarized emission. For the 10 polarized sources previously identified in a pilot LOFAR study of the ELAIS-N1 field at 20″-resolution, the RM values are consistent but the degrees of polarization are higher in the 6″-resolution data. The sources previously detected in polarization at 1.4 GHz are significantly depolarized at 150 MHz. The catalog is used to derive the polarized source counts at 150 MHz. Conclusions. This is the deepest and highest-resolution polarization study at 150 MHz to date. A full characterization of the sources and an analysis of the catalog will be presented in Paper II. This study proposes wide-band frequency selective surfaces (FSS) with polarization-independent characteristics that are tailored for IoT applications. The design consists of two different layers with band-stop characteristics that target key frequency bands in sub-6 GHz: 3.7 GHz (n77) and 4.5 GHz (n79), offering a 1.39 GHz bandwidth spanning from 3.61 GHz to 5.0 GHz. This study also presents a double-layer structure with a WB property with a fractional bandwidth of 32%. Simulations have been conducted to observe variations in insertion loss across incident and polarization angles ranging from 0 to 60 degrees for both TE and TM modes in the suggested FSS structures. These simulations demonstrate the design's polarization independence. Transparent polyvinyl chloride with a dielectric constant of 2.77 and a thickness of 1.48 mm has been utilized as the substrate material. The optical transmittance is calculated to be 96.7% for Layer 1, 95.7% for Layer 2, and 92.4% for the double-layer structure, and these calculated optical transmittance values were found to be higher compared to the studies in the literature. The proposed design is well-suited for sub-6 GHz IoT applications due to their high transparency, cost-effectiveness, robust high-performance capabilities in suppression, and polarization-independent features. The influence of acoustic anisotropy on ultrasonic testing reliability poses a challenge in evaluating products from additive technologies (AT). This study investigates how elasticity constants of anisotropic materials affect defect signal amplitudes in AT products. Experimental measurements on AT samples were conducted to determine elasticity constants. Using Computational Modeling and Simulation Software (CIVA), simulations explored echo signal changes across ultrasound propagation directions. The parameters A 13 (the ratio between the velocities of ultrasonic transverse waves with vertical and horizontal polarizations at a 45-degree angle to the growth direction), A 3 (the ratio for waves at a 90-degree angle), and A g (the modulus of the difference between A 13 and A 3 ) were derived from wave velocity relationships and used to characterize acoustic anisotropy. Comparative analysis revealed a strong correlation (0.97) between the proposed anisotropy coefficient A g and the amplitude changes. Threshold values of A g were introduced to classify anisotropic materials based on observed amplitude changes in defect echo signals. In addition, a method leveraging deep learning to predict A g based on data from other anisotropy constants through genetic algorithm (GA)-optimized neural network (NN) architectures is proposed, offering an approach that can reduce the computational costs associated with calculating such constants. Drone-based imaging polarimetry is a valuable new tool for the remote sensing of the polarization characteristics of the Earth's surface. After briefly reviewing two earlier drone-polarimetric studies, we present here the results of our drone-polarimetric campaigns, in which we measured the reflection–polarization patterns of greenhouses. From the measured patterns of the degree and angle of linear polarization of reflected light, we calculated the measure (plp) of polarized light pollution of glass surfaces. The knowledge of polarized light pollution is important for aquatic insect ecology, since polarotactic aquatic insects are the endangered victims of artificial horizontally polarized light sources. We found that the so-called Palm House of a botanical garden has only a low polarized light pollution, 3.6% ≤ plp ≤ 13.7%, while the greenhouses with tilted roofs are strongly polarized-light-polluting, with 24.8% ≤ plp ≤ 40.4%. Similarly, other tilted-roofed greenhouses contain very high polarized light pollution, plp ≤ 76.7%. Under overcast skies, the polarization patterns and plp values of greenhouses practically only depend on the direction of view relative to the glass surfaces, as the rotationally invariant diffuse cloud light is the only light source. However, under cloudless skies, the polarization patterns of glass surfaces significantly depend on the azimuth direction of view and its angle relative to the solar meridian because, in this case, sunlight is the dominant light source, rather than the sky. In the case of a given direction of view, those glass surfaces are the strongest polarized-light-polluting, from which sunlight and/or skylight is reflected at or near Brewster's angle in a nearly vertical plane, i.e., with directions of polarization close to horizontal. Therefore, the plp value is usually greatest when the sun shines directly or from behind. Magnetic reconnection is often considered as the primary particle acceleration mechanism in a magnetized blazar zone environment. The majority of radiation in the reconnection layer comes from plasmoids and their mergers. In particular, plasmoid mergers can produce strong multiwavelength flares and major variations in synchrotron polarization signatures. However, radiative properties of plasmoid mergers have not been well explored due to difficulties in tracking the merging processes. Here we use an image processing method that combines the magnetic vector potential and density to identify isolated and merging plasmoids. We find that this method can clearly distinguish radiation contributions from isolated plasmoids, merging plasmoids, and the primary current sheet of reconnection. This new method enables us to study the radiative properties of plasmoids and mergers statistically. Our results show that isolated plasmoids have similar emissivity regardless of their sizes, and they generally have non-zero polarization degree (PD) due to their quasi-circular shape. Flares due to plasmoid mergers have relative amplitudes that are antiproportional to the size ratio of the plasmoids participating in the mergers. Finally, only mergers between plasmoids of comparable sizes (width ratio ≲5) can lead to significant spectral hardening and polarization angle (PA) variations; the amplitude of the PA variations is between 0 and 180° and has a mean value of 90°. Our analyses on 2D simulations can pave the way for future analyses and machine learning techniques on radiative properties of 3D magnetic reconnection simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We conduct a comprehensive analysis of the accreting X-ray pulsar, Hercules X-1, utilizing data from Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) and Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array. IXPE performed five observations of Her X-1, consisting of three in the Main-on state and two in the Short-on state. Our time-resolved analysis uncovers the linear correlations between the flux and polarization degree as well as the pulse fraction and polarization degree. Geometry parameters are rigorously constrained by fitting the phase-resolved modulations of Cyclotron Resonance Scattering Feature and polarization angle with a simple dipole model and Rotating Vector Model, respectively, yielding roughly consistent results. The changes of χp (the position angle of the pulsar's spin axis on the plane of the sky) between different Main-on observations suggest the possible forced precession of the neutron star crust. Furthermore, a linear association between the energy of Cyclotron Resonance Scattering Feature and polarization angle implies the prevalence of a dominant dipole magnetic field, and their phase-resolved modulations likely arise from viewing angle effects. The combination between macroscopic structure designs and microscopic material designs offers tremendous possibilities for the development of advanced electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers. Herein, we propose a metamaterial design to address persistent challenges in this field, including narrow bandwidth, low–frequency bottlenecks, and, particularly, the urgent issue of robustness (i.e., oblique, and polarized incidence). Our absorber features a semiconductive metal-organic framework/iron 2D/2D assembly (CuHT–FCIP) with abundant crystal/crystal heterojunctions and strong magneto-electric coupling networks. This design achieves remarkable EMW absorption across a broad range (2 to 40 GHz) at a thickness of just 9.3 mm. Notably, it maintains stable performance against oblique incidence (within 75°) and polarizations (both transverse electric and transverse magnetic). Furthermore, the absorber demonstrates high specific compressive strength (201.01 MPa·cm3·g−1) and low density (0.89 g·cm−3). This advancement holds promise for developing robust EMW absorbers with superior performance. A thermodynamic model developed by our group has been employed to explore the electro-optical properties of the chiral antiferroelectric smectic C (Sm $C_A^*$ C A ∗ ) phase. In the present study, the temperature dependence of tilt angle and spontaneous polarization of binary ferroelectric mixtures represented as W-330-3 and W-331-3 exhibiting ferroelectric Sm C* and antiferroelectric Sm $C_A^*$ C A ∗ phase has been investigated. Within the framework of this model, the free-energy density characterizing the system featuring the Sm $C_A^*$ C A ∗ phase is expressed as a series expansion that incorporates all pertinent degrees of freedom: tensor orientational order ${{\bf{Q}}_{{\bf{ij}}}}$ Q ij , scalar smectic order ψ, polarization vector P, wave vector q of the helix and the resulting coupling terms between these order parameters. The values of Landau coefficients featured in the expansion series are derived from experimental data (tilt angle and spontaneous polarization) of W-330-3 and W-331-3. This work proposes and investigates a wide‐angle band‐pass frequency selective surface (FSS) with two sharp sidebands. The presented FSS element is made up of three metallic layers and two substrate layers in between, which are surrounded by a substrate‐integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity. The top metallic layer is identical to the bottom layer, composed of a square patch etched with a hexagonal groove, while the middle layer is a similar patch but with rectangular notch edges. This structure achieves a second‐order band‐pass response with highly frequency selectivity on either side of the passband. At the same time, this FSS demonstrates excellent stability for both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations with incident angles between 0° and 60°. The electric current and field distributions are demonstrated for deep analysis. Furthermore, an equivalent circuit model is developed to further understand the operating mechanisms. To verify the validity of the design, we construct a prototype of the SIW‐based FSS (SIW‐FSS) and measured it. There is a fair degree of agreement between the measured and simulated results. Photodetectors with good polarization detection ability are promising in many applications, such as remote sensing imaging and environmental monitoring. However, the traditional polarization detection systems fall short in meeting integration demands of the integrated‐circuits field due to additional optical elements. The emerging 2D materials with in‐plane anisotropic structures provide a possible method to fabricate remarkable polarization detectors. Modulating the band structure by gate voltage is an important strategy for developing optoelectronic devices. Herein, a polarized photodetector based on PdSe2/MoS2 out‐of‐plane heterojunction is fabricated. Due to its unique out‐of‐plane heterostructure, the device exhibits excellent photoresponse characteristics and polarization sensitivity, including an excellent responsivity of 10.19A/W, an extremely high external quantum efficiency of 2429%, a fast rise/decay time of 68/192 µs, and a high photocurrent anisotropy ratio of 3.09. Based on the adjustment of the built‐in electric field through gate voltage, the performance of the device can be accordingly modulated. As the gate voltage increases from −30 to 30 V, the responsivity gradually increases from 7.5 to 13A/W and the detectivity increases from 1.53 to 2.63 × 109Jones. Finally, its olarization imaging ability is demonstrated at different polarization angles. Dynamic optical structural color is always desired in various display applications and usually involves active materials. Full-color generation, especially bi-directional full-color generation in both reflective and transmissive modes, without any active materials included, has rarely been investigated. Herein, we demonstrate a scheme of bi-directional full-color generation based on a plasmonic metasurface modulated by the rotation of the polarization angle of the incident light without varying the geometry and the optical properties of the materials and the environment where the metasurface resides. The metasurface unit cell consists of plasmonic modules aligning in three directions and is patterned in a square array. The metasurface structural color device is numerically confirmed to generate full colors in both reflection and transmission. Based on the proposed polarization-dependent structural color, the information encoding process is demonstrated for three multiplexed animal images and quick-responsive (QR) codes to verify the efficient information encoding and decoding of the proposed scheme. In the simulation, the animals can be seen under different polarization incidences, and the QR codes can be successfully decoded by the polarization rotation in transmission. The proposed bi-directional full-color generation metasurface has great potential in applications such as kaleidoscope generation, anti-counterfeiting, dynamic color display, and optical information encoding. In this paper, a dual-band and dual-broadband terahertz (THz) metamaterial absorber (MA) using two asymmetric rectangular rings is proposed and studied. The proposed bifunctional MA possesses not only the dual-band absorption performance with absorptivities of 97.81% and 99.53% at 2.07 and 2.88 THz but also the dual-broadband absorption performance with absorptivity above 90% in two frequency ranges of 5.74–6.98 and 9.81–10.83 THz. The distributions of electric fields at resonant frequencies are utilized to analyze the working principle of the proposed bifunctional MA. Moreover, the influences of incident angle and polarization angle on dual-band and dual-broadband absorption performance are also investigated. Different from the previous MAs with asymmetric resonators, our bifunctional MA has polarization insensitivity despite the use of two asymmetric rectangular rings. We analyze the Goos–Hänchen (GH) shift and longitudinal spin splitting (LSS) at a planar interface between two optical media in the spin representation. While these optical effects have been studied previously, we examine the direct and cross-reflected light fields, and their interference from the spin representation to reveal the physical mechanism of the GH shift and establish a quantitative relationship between it and LSS. Furthermore, we show that angular asymmetric spin splitting occurs under the spin representation when linearly polarized light with a phase difference of 180° and an amplitude ratio angle deviating from 45° impinges on the air–glass interface at Brewster's angle. Finally, we reveal that the spin component field of the reflected light field for the total reflection case is different from that of the Brewster angle reflection, the most typical manifestation is that the intensity of the two spin component fields is not equal. Now a days, plenty of nanostructured absorbers have been designing and investigating by employing various novel materials. In this paper, we employ a single-layer and ultrathin plasmonic absorber based on MXene, comprising of subwavelength-sized array of nano-cylinders. The proposed MXene-based absorber contains a three-layer device structure, having a top and bottom layer comprising MXene, a middle dielectric layer of Aluminium Nitride (AlN). It presents a large absorption window and shows an absorption value of 90% in a long operating wavelength ranging from 400 to 2600 nm. The discussed MXene-based plasmonic absorber does not change its absorption features by varying the different polarization angles and this is attributed to the symmetric structure of the constituent design. Additionally, the absorber also holds good absorption characteristics even at larger incident angles up to 60°. Water and graphene have been used separately to effectively broaden absorption bandwidth in the design of metamaterial absorbers (MAs). In this paper, a broad terahertz MA is presented, in which water and graphene are used together for improving absorption performance. The absorptivity of the presented MA exceeds 90% over the frequency range of 2.81–6.74 THz. It is found that the proposed MA has superior absorption performance to those using water or graphene separately. The impedance matching theory as well as the distribution of the field and power loss are used to provide a deep insight into the absorption mechanism. Furthermore, the proposed MA exhibits excellent thermal stability as well as good insensitivity to polarization and incident angle. In this study, we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally second harmonic generation (SHG) of a twisted vector vortex optical field (TVVOF) using a nonlinear type-II phase-matched β-BaB2O4 (BBO) crystal. Our study introduces a novel method to manipulate SHG by independently modulating the two orthogonal polarization components of a TVVOF. This flexibility in controlling SHG can be achieved through accurate experimental adjustments of the polarization components. Furthermore, we reveal that the SHG can be dynamically tuned by varying the angle between the polarization direction of the optical field and the principal axis of the BBO crystal via rotation. These findings provide a new approach for the flexible manipulation of SHG in structured vector optical fields, which have potential applications in optical communication, quantum optics, and photonic device engineering. We designed a metamaterial far-infrared absorber based on an MDM (metal–dielectric–metal) structure. We made a hollow crossed Ti microstructure at the top of the absorber. It is known that the coupling effect of equipartitional exciton resonance and intrinsic absorption at the surface of the depleting material has a strong influence on the absorber. Based on this, we investigated the absorption characteristics of the absorber using the Finite Difference in Time Domain (FDTD) theory. The results show that the absorber absorbed more than 90% of the light within a bandwidth of 12.01 μm. The absorber has an average absorption of 94.08% in the longwave infrared (LWIR) to ultra-longwave infrared (UWIR) bands (10.90–22.91 μm). The polarization insensitivity of the designed absorber is demonstrated by analyzing the absorption spectra of the absorber at different polarization angles. By adjusting the relevant geometric parameters, the absorption spectrum can be independently adjusted. Furthermore, the absorber exhibits good incidence angle insensitivity in both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes. The absorbers are simple and easy to configure for applications such as optical cloaking, infrared heat emitters, and photodetectors. Laser light absorption occurs in all laser-based processes and is, therefore, of importance for process simulation input, parameter optimization, and understanding of the occurring phenomena, such as melt pool flow or vaporization effects. Theoretical models were successful in predicting metal absorption for certain cases but often fail in high-temperature situations due to unknown impacts of occurring effects, such as surface irregularities or contaminations. Measuring absorption at high temperatures is challenging, and there are limited literature data available on values further above melting temperatures of metals. In this work, a radiometric measurement method is used to derive absorption values at high temperatures. The results show shifted values from Fresnel predictions and absorption peaks at comparably low incident angles. The decreasing absorption tendency at low incident angles was shown to be possibly induced by multi-interface absorption effects caused by surface layering and Knudsen layer effects. Surface layering was seen to be able to induce a very low Brewster angle comparable to the observations in the measurements and is, therefore, seen as a possible dominant factor in absorption at elevated temperatures.
