Bovine viral diarrhea-mucosal disease (BVD-MD) is a contagious disease in cattle, caused by the bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). This virus continues to spread globally, exerting pressure on both public health and the economy. Despite its impact, there are currently no effective drugs for treating BVDV. This study utilized Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells as amodel to investigate the antiviral effects of melatonin against Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) and its connection with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Our results show that melatonin can suppress BVDV proliferation in MDBK cells by modulating the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-mediated NF-κB pathway and autophagy. Specifically,melatonin alleviated ER stress, inhibited the activation of IκBα and p65, regulated autophagy, and reduced the expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Further, when we treated BVDV-infected cells with the ER stress inducer thapsigargin, it led to significant activation of the NF-κB pathway and autophagy. Conversely, treating the cells with the ER stress inhibitor 4-phenylbutyric acid reversed these effects. These findings suggest that melatonin exerts its antiviral effects primarily through the PERK-eIF2α-ATF4 of ER stress-mediated NF-κB pathway and autophagy. Introduction: Nocardia farcinica is an opportunistic bacterium that causes bovine mastitis and pulmonary, cutaneous, and central nervous system infections in humans. Bovine abortion caused by N. farcinica has been sporadically reported. The purpose of this study was to analyze the pathological findings of bovine abortions caused by N. farcinica in the Republic of Korea and determine the antimicrobial resistance and genotypical characteristics of N. farcinica isolates. Case presentation: Three cases of bovine abortions were submitted to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency for differential diagnosis. Grossly, one fetus showed severe lung consolidation following palpation of the entire lobes. Histologically, necrotizing granulomatous interstitial pneumonia was observed in all fetuses; a fetus with a gross lesion demonstrated necrotizing lymphadenitis in the mesenteric lymph nodes and necrotizing dermatitis in the ear. N. farcinica isolates were isolated from the abomasal contents and lungs of all fetuses. Finally, two cases were diagnosed as abortions due to N. farcinica, and one was diagnosed as an N. farcinica abortion coinfected with bovine viral diarrhea virus. According to the multilocus sequence analysis, all isolates were identified as N. farcinica and were determined to be genetically related to isolates from humans. Two N. farcinica isolates were resistant to trimethoprimsulfamethoxazole, which is recommended as the first treatment for human nocardial infections. Conclusion: This is the first pathological report of bovine abortion caused by N. farcinica in the Republic of Korea. Further studies are needed to phenotypically and genotypically characterize N. farcinica isolates with various sources and continuously monitor antimicrobial resistance patterns. Bovine hemolytic anemia has a negative impact on animal welfare and productivity due to its associated clinical symptoms. Hemolysis is generally known to cause reticulocytosis, increased indirect bilirubin, decreased concentration of haptoglobin, and increased lactate dehydrogenase. Additionally, tissue hypoperfusion due to concomitant anemia increases blood lactate concentration. However, few studies have reported the correlation between these indicators and hemolytic anemia in cattle. We expected that alterations in hematological and biochemical parameters could identify cattle with hemolytic anemia. Therefore, in addition to reporting differences in indicators according to hemolytic anemia, this study aimed to derive indicators and set criteria for identification of bovine hemolytic anemia. In cattle with hemolytic anemia, reticulocytosis, increased indirect bilirubin, and increased L-lactate were observed, and the correlation of these indicators with hematocrit (HCT) was confirmed. And since HCT alone has limitations in identifying hemolytic anemia, we suggest additional criteria to identify hemolytic anemia in cattle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multivalent live-attenuated or inactivated vaccines are often used to control the bovine viral diarrhea disease (BVD). Still, they retain inherent disadvantages and do not provide the expected protection. This study developed a new vaccine prototype, including the external segment of the E2 viral protein from five different subgenotypes selected after a massive screening. The E2 proteins of every subgenotype (1aE2, 1bE2, 1cE2, 1dE2, and 1eE2) were produced in mammalian cells and purified by IMAC. An equimolar mixture of E2 proteins formulated in an oil-in-water adjuvant made up the vaccine candidate, inducing a high humoral response at 50, 100, and 150 µg doses in sheep. A similar immune response was observed in bovines at 50 µg. The cellular response showed a significant increase in the transcript levels of relevant Th1 cytokines, while those corresponding to the Th2 cytokine IL-4 and the negative control were similar. High levels of neutralizing antibodies against the subgenotype BVDV1a demonstrated the effectiveness of our vaccine candidate, similar to that observed in the sera of animals vaccinated with the commercial vaccine. Since the start of the mandatory nationwide bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) eradication program in Germany in 2011, the number of persistently infected (PI) animals has decreased considerably, resulting in a continuous decrease in seroprevalence. The increasingly BVD-naive cattle population could facilitate spillover infections with non-BVDV ruminant pestiviruses. Here, we report two cases in which novel pestiviruses were isolated from cattle; in both cases, the whole genome sequence showed the highest level of identity to strain "Pestivirus reindeer-1". Both novel viruses gave positive results in BVDV diagnostic test systems, confirming that cross-reactivity is an important issue in pestivirus diagnostics. In the first case, the pestivirus was probably transmitted from sheep kept with the affected cattle, suggesting that the co-housing of small ruminants and cattle is a risk factor. The source of infection could not be determined in the second case. The occurrence of these two cases in independent cattle holdings within a relatively short time frame suggests that it would be useful to determine the presence of pestiviruses in small ruminants or even wild ruminants to better assess risk factors, especially for BVDV-free populations. Simple Summary: We investigated the ability of metformin (Met) to inhibit bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) replication in vitro. We analyzed the transcriptomic profiles of BVDV-infected Madin Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells after pretreatment with Met to identify activated or suppressed metabolic and signaling pathways. (1) Background: Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) causes calf diarrhea, bovine respiratory syndrome, and cow abortion, resulting in substantial economic losses in the cattle industry. Owing to its persistent infection mechanism, BVDV is a major challenge in the treatment of cattle. (2) Methods: To determine how metformin (Met) inhibits the interaction between BVDV and host cells, we treated BVDV-infected cells with Met. We then performed an RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis of Met-treated cells infected with BVDV to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Consequently, the RNA-seq results were validated through real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). (3) Results: Our analysis revealed 3169 DEGs in the Met-treated cells (Met group) vs. the negative controls (NC group) and 2510 DEGs in the BVDV-infected cells after pretreatment with Met (MetBVDV group) vs. the BVDV-infected cells (BVDV group). The DEGs were involved in MDBK interactions during BVDV infection, as indicated by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses. The potential interactions of the DEGs were confirmed via a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network. Met treatment induced autophagy signaling activity and the expression of the autophagy-related genes ATG2A, ATG4B, ATG10, and ATG12 in BVDV-infected Met-pretreated cells. (4) Conclusions: We found that the host transcriptomic profile was affected by BVDV infection and Met pretreatment. Simple Summary: In the past few years, mRNA vaccines have exhibited numerous advantages over conventional vaccines owing to their high potency, safety, efficacy, accelerated development cycles, and potential for rapid, low-cost manufacturing. Here, we made the first attempt to establish animal tests for mRNA vaccines prepared against BVDV-1, a virus responsible for bovine viral diarrhea in livestock. Our preliminary data indicate that the RNA technology holds great promise for the further development of efficient and secure BVDV vaccines. Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an RNA virus associated with severe economic losses in animal production. Effective vaccination and viral surveillance are urgent for the prevention and control of BVDV infection. However, the application of traditional modified live vaccines and inactivated vaccines is faced with tremendous challenges. In the present study, we describe the preclinical efficacy of two BVDV mRNA vaccines tested in mice and guinea pigs, followed by a field trial in goats, where they were compared to a commercial vaccine (formaldehyde inactivated). The two mRNAs were engineered to express the envelope protein E2 of BVDV-1, the most prevalent subtype across the world, through a 5′ cap-dependent or independent fashion. Better titers of neutralizing antibodies against BVDV-1 were achieved using the capped RNA in the sera of mice and guinea pigs, with maximum values reaching 9.4 and 13.7 (by −log2), respectively, on the 35th day post-vaccination. At the same time point, the antibody levels in goats were 9.1 and 10.2 for the capped and capless RNAs, respectively, and there were no significant differences compared to the commercial vaccine. The animals remained healthy throughout the experiment, as reflected by their normal leukogram profiles. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that mRNA vaccines have good safety and immunogenicity, and we laid a strong foundation for the further exploitation of efficient and safe BVDV vaccines. Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is the cause of bovine viral diarrhea disease, one of the most economically important livestock diseases worldwide. The majority of BVD disease control programs rely on the detection and then elimination of persistent infection (PI) cattle, as the continuing source of disease. The main purpose of this study was to design and develop an accurate G-quadruplex-based aptasensor for rapid and simple detection of BVDV-1. In this work, we utilized in silico techniques to design a G-quadruplex aptamer specific for the detection of BVDV-1. Also, the rationally designed aptamer was validated experimentally and was used for developing a colorimetric biosensor based on an aptamer-gold nanoparticle system. Firstly, a pool of G-quadruplex forming ssDNA sequences was constructed. Then, based on the stability score in secondary and tertiary structures and molecular docking score, an aptamer (Apt31) was selected. In the experimental part, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with an average particle size of 31.7 nm were synthesized and electrostatically linked with the Apt31. The colorimetric test showed that salt-induced color change of AuNPs from red to purple-blue occurs only in the presence of BVDV-Apt31 complex, after 20 min. These results approved the specificity of Apt31 for BVDV. Furthermore, our biosensor could detect the virus at as low as 0.27 copies/ml, which is an acceptable value in comparison to the qPCR method. The specificity of the aptasensor was confirmed through cross-reactivity testing, while its selectivity was confirmed through plasma testing. The sample analysis showed 90% precision and 94% accuracy. It was concluded that the biosensor was adequately sensitive and specific for the detection of BVDV in plasma samples and could be used as a simple and rapid method on the farm. Background and aim: Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) is a highly contagious gastrointestinal virus that causes diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, dehydration, and weight loss in piglets. In clinical practice, it often occurs in mixed infections with other pathogens, and is therefore difficult to diagnose and prevent. It mainly harms piglets of about 2 weeks old, causing huge losses on farms. The clinical confirmation of TGEV usually requires a laboratory diagnosis, but traditional PCR and immunofluorescence assays have some limitations. Moreover, most farms in China are ill-equipped to accurately diagnose the disease. Therefore, a new detection method with high sensitivity and specificity and less dependence on instrumentation is required. Methods: We used recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA), combined with the nuclease characteristics of the activated Cas13a protein to establish a visual CRISPR-Cas13a-assisted detection method for TGEV by adding a reporter RNA with fluorescent and quenching moieties to the system. Result: We selected the optimal RPA primer and best CRISPR RNA (crRNA). The reaction system was optimized and its repeatability, specificity, and sensitivity verified. The TGEV detection system did not cross-react with other common diarrhea viruses, and its detection limit was 101 copies, which is similar with the sensitivity of qPCR. We successfully established an RPA-CRISPR-Cas13a-assisted detection method, and used this detection system to analyze 123 pig blood samples. qPCR was used as the gold standard method. Background and Aim: Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), a highly pathogenic ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus, causes devastating financial losses and reproductive deaths among dairy cattle in Yogyakarta and globally. This study aimed to identify point mutations within the E2 structural protein of the acquired BVD virus (BVDV) isolates using genetic analysis. Materials and Methods: The study period shows that we performed the research in 2023. We collected 118 serum samples from 2019 to 2023, among which only 10 BVDV positive were used and 108 were negative lacking the BVDV antigen. An anti-Erns monoclonal antibody-coated protein was used in indirect antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ACE) to detect the BVD antigen present in positive BVDV serum specimens. In the initial step of the two-step reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, the enzyme (superscript III reverse transcriptase) and the primer (random hexamer) were used to convert the RNA of the BVDV into complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) during the process of reverse transcription. The final step involved the amplification of the E2 gene of the resultant BVDV cDNA through gene-specific primers (E2_fwd: 5'-TGGTGGCCTTATGAGAC-3' and P7_rev: 5'-CCCATCATCACTATTTCACC-3') and enzyme (platinum taq DNA polymerase high fidelity). For conducting Sanger sequencing, those 3 BVDV-1-positive isolates (about 2.6% of all isolates) were selected as a typical specimen for each site and year between 2019 and 2023 using a proportional computation. Therefore, only two BVDV isolates with complete genomes were chosen to perform their homological and genetic analysis based on the E2 gene by means of Blast and MEGA Version 11 in addition to the Bioedit 7.2.5 program. Results: By applying phylogenetic analysis relying on the E2 gene, a sum of 1011 nucleotides of the BVDV-1 isolates derived from each of the two BVDV-1 Indonesian isolates (n = 2) and its 23 reference BVDV strains were acquired from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. The findings of the genetic analysis inside the phylogenetic tree revealed that the two BVDV Indonesian isolates were clustered into BVDV-1a subgenotype, while the reference BVDV strains were clustered into the five BVDV subgenotype, BVDV-1a (n = 6), BVDV-1b (n = 3), BVDV-1c (n = 11), BVDV-1m (n = 1), and BVDV-1n (n = 2). The branch exists in phylogenetic tree located before the division of our two BVDV isolates was divided into two branches with the same maximum bootstrap values of 99%, indicating a high degree of confidence, was seen. Next, we observed the branch near our study samples, which displayed the bootstrap value of 100, indicating that our 02 isolates were identical. In both isolates, V11 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 and V16 BVDV1/Indonesia/ Yogyakarta/2023 with GenBank accession numbers PP836388 and PP836389, respectively, conserved D7E residues were mutated as well as cysteine changed/altered into serine (S) was identified at amino acid position 201. Conclusion: We identified two isolates of BVDV belonging to the BVDV-1a subgenotype. Our findings indicate that the conserved D7E residues of isolates V11 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 and V16 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 were altered. The Indonesian BVDV isolates exhibited a cysteine to serine mutation at amino acid position 201, leads to vaccination failure, range of animal's host will increase, and diagnostic kit will not be effective. Background: Toxoplasma gondii is a widely prevalent zoonotic protozoan parasite in humans and warm‐blooded animals worldwide. Infection of humans by this parasite can result in severe clinical symptoms, particularly in individuals with congenital toxoplasmosis or immunocompromised patients. Contamination mainly occurs through foodborne routes, especially the consumption of raw or undercooked meat from animals. Objectives: The aim of this study was to use PCR to detect T. gondii in tissues and organs of buffaloes and cattle slaughtered at Tabriz slaughterhouse, in Iran. Methods: Fifty grams of heart, thigh, diaphragm and tongue from 50 buffaloes and 100 cattle slaughtered at the Tabriz industrial slaughterhouse were selected for sampling using a combination of convenience sampling. The samples were tested using a previously published PCR method. Results: Out of the 150 animal samples, T. gondii was detected in 10 (6.7%, 95%CI: 3.2–11.9), including one buffalo (2%, 95%CI: 0.1–10.6) and nine cattle (9%, 95%CI: 4.2–16.4). There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of T. gondii infection among cattle based on age and sex (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The results indicated a potential risk of T. gondii transmission to humans through the consumption of infected meat. Therefore, appropriate and effective preventive measures should be taken to limit the transmission of this parasite to humans, and the consumption of raw and undercooked meat should be discouraged. Importance: Neonatal calf diarrhea is a major cause of mortality in newborn calves worldwide, posing a significant challenge in bovine herds. Group A Bovine Rotaviruses ( BRVA) are the primary contributors to severe gastroenteritis in calves under two months old. Objectives: This study examined the prevalence and molecular characterization of BRVA in neonatal calves in Gujarat, India. Methods: Sixty-nine diarrheic fecal samples were collected and subjected to various molecular methods of BRVA detection, isolation, and characterization. Results: The latex agglutination test (LAT), electropherotyping (RNA-PAGE), and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction revealed positivity rates of 39.13%, 20.30%, and 37.70%, respectively. RNA-PAGE identified 11 bands with a 4:2:3:2 migration pattern, indicative of the segmented genome of BRVA. BRVA was successfully isolated from LAT-positive samples, with 26 samples exhibiting clear cytopathic effects upon passage in MA-104 cell lines. Genotyping identified G10 as the predominant G genotype, with P[11] genotypes comprising 76.92% of the isolates. The most common G/P combination was G10P[11], highlighting its zoonotic potential. Conclusions and Relevance: These findings underscore the importance of molecular detection and genotyping for effective vaccine development. Capripoxviruses are the causative agents of sheeppox, goatpox, and lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle, which cause economic losses to the livestock industry in Africa and Asia. Capripoxviruses are currently controlled using several live attenuated vaccines. It was previously demonstrated that a lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) field isolate from Warmbaths (WB) South Africa, ORF 005 (IL-10) gene-deleted virus (LSDV WB005KO), was able to protect sheep and goats against sheeppox and goatpox. Subsequently, genes encoding the protective antigens for peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and Rift Valley fever (RVF) viruses have been inserted in the LSDV WB005KO construct in three different antigen forms (native, secreted, and fusion). These three multivalent vaccine candidates were evaluated for protection against PPR using a single immunization of 104 TCID50 in sheep. The vaccine candidates with the native and secreted antigens protected sheep against PPR clinical disease and decreased viral shedding, as detected using real-time RT-PCR in oral and nasal swabs. An anamnestic antibody response, measured using PPR virus-neutralizing antibody response production, was observed in sheep following infection. The vaccine candidates with the antigens expressed in their native form were evaluated for protection against RVF using a single immunization with doses of 104 or 105 TCID50 in sheep and goats. Following RVF virus infection, sheep and goats were protected against clinical disease and no viremia was detected in serum compared to control animals, where viremia was detected one day following infection. Sheep and goats developed RVFV-neutralizing antibodies prior to infection, and the antibody responses increased following infection. Objective: Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) disease is a viral infection in cows caused by a sin¬gle-stranded plus-sense RNA virus of the Pestivirus genus under the Flaviviridae family. The clini¬cal manifestation of BVD mainly includes diarrhea and immunosuppression, thereby exacerbating various respiratory diseases. This study was conducted to detect and molecularly characterize the bovine viral diarrhea disease virus (BVDV) in cattle on selected farms in Selangor, Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed for antigen detection in 253 plasma samples collected from cows using a cross-sectional study design. We selected the 5 untranslated regions (5'-UTR) region and the E2 region to compare the genetic differences between the isolates. Results: One sample was found to be positive (1/253) following RT-PCR targeting the conserved 5'-UTR region of BVDV. Thus, BVDV antigen prevalence was 0.40% (95% confidence interval: 0.0%–2.2%). By targeting the hypervariable E2 region of the isolated virus, UPM/MAL/BVDV/D17, the virus was classified under the subgenotype BVDV-1a. Conclusion: BVDV is present and circulating on selected cattle farms in Selangor, Malaysia. Given the presence of BVDV in several subgenotypes, the screening of all incoming cattle at Malaysia's border is pertinent to prevent the entry of other BVDV subgenotypes into the country. Bovine trypanosomosis, caused by Trypanosoma vivax, currently affects cattle and has a significant economic impact in sub-Saharan Africa and South America. The development of new diagnostic antigens is essential to improve and refine existing methods. Our study evaluated the efficacy of two recombinant antigens in detecting specific antibodies in cattle. These antigens are derivatives of an invariant surface glycoprotein (ISG) from T. vivax. A fraction of a previously described antigen (TvY486_0045500), designated TvISGAf, from an African strain was evaluated, and a new ISG antigen from an American isolate, TvISGAm, was identified. The two antigens were expressed as fusion proteins in Escherichia coli: TvISGAf was fused to the MBP-His-tag, and TvISGAm was obtained as a His-tag fused protein. An ELISA evaluation was conducted using these antigens on 149 positive and 63 negative bovine samples. The diagnostic performance was enhanced by the use of a combination of both antigens (referred to as TvISG-based ELISA), achieving a sensitivity of 89.6% and specificity of 93.8%. Following the validation of the TvISG-based ELISA, the seroprevalence of T. vivax infection in 892 field samples from cattle in the central region of Argentina was determined. The mean seroprevalence of T. vivax was 53%, with variation ranging from 21% to 69% among the six departments studied. These results support the use of the TvISG ELISA as a valuable serological tool for the detection and monitoring of T. vivax infection in cattle. Furthermore, we report for the first time the seroprevalence of T. vivax in Argentina, which highlights the widespread endemic nature of the disease in the region. In order to effectively manage the increasing spread of T. vivax in the vast livestock production areas of South America, it is essential to implement consistent surveillance programs and to adopt preventive strategies. Author summary: Bovine trypanosomosis is a disease that threatens cattle health and agriculture in South America and Africa. It is mainly caused by the parasite Trypanosoma vivax. Diagnosis of this infection has been challenging, hampering efforts to monitor and control outbreaks. In this study, we developed a more accurate and sensitive test for detecting T. vivax in cattle. Using recombinant proteins tailored to parasite strains in the Americas, this new test can identify infection rates and patterns within cattle herds and regions. By analyzing over 800 cattle blood samples from Argentina ranchlands, we discovered over 50% seropositivity, indicating a far higher prevalence than previously recognized. These results highlight the urgent need for surveillance and preventive strategies, although diagnostic tools provide a means for tracking regional spread. By enhancing the diagnosis of this livestock disease, this study lays the foundation for protecting cattle health and associated livelihoods across at-risk communities in the developing world. Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection is linked to the development of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) and the neuroinflammatory disease, HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). The HTLV-1 Tax oncoprotein regulates viral gene expression and persistently activates NF-κB to maintain the viability of HTLV-1-infected T cells. Here, we utilize a kinome-wide shRNA screen to identify the tyrosine kinase KDR as an essential survival factor of HTLV-1-transformed cells. Inhibition of KDR specifically induces apoptosis of Tax expressing HTLV-1-transformed cell lines and CD4 + T cells from HAM/TSP patients. Furthermore, inhibition of KDR triggers the autophagic degradation of Tax resulting in impaired NF-κB activation and diminished viral transmission in co-culture assays. Tax induces the expression of KDR, forms a complex with KDR, and is phosphorylated by KDR. These findings suggest that Tax stability is dependent on KDR activity which could be exploited as a strategy to target Tax in HTLV-1-associated diseases. An increase in chronic, non-responsive bovine respiratory disease (BRD) infections in North American feedlot cattle is observed each fall, a time when cattle are administered multiple antimicrobial treatments for BRD. A number of factors are responsible for BRD antimicrobial treatment failure, with formation of biofilms possibly being one. It is widely accepted that biofilms play a role in chronic infections in humans and it has been hypothesized that they are the default lifestyle of most bacteria. However, research on bacterial biofilms associated with livestock is scarce and significant knowledge gaps exist in our understanding of their role in AMR of the bacterial BRD complex. The four main bacterial species of the BRD complex, Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni, and Mycoplasma bovis are able to form biofilms in vitro and there is evidence that at least H. somni retains this ability in vivo. However, there is a need to elucidate whether their biofilm-forming ability contributes to pathogenicity and antimicrobial treatment failure of BRD. Overall, a better understanding of the possible role of BRD bacterial biofilms in clinical disease and AMR could assist in the prevention and management of respiratory infections in feedlot cattle. Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a likely prerequisite for multiple sclerosis (MS) but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. We investigated antibody and T cell responses to EBV in persons with MS (pwMS), healthy EBV-seropositive controls (HC) and post-infectious mononucleosis (POST-IM) individuals up to 6 months after disease resolution. The ability of EBV-specific T cell responses to target antigens from the central nervous system (CNS) was also investigated. Methods: Untreated persons with relapsing-remitting MS, POST-IM individuals and HC were, as far as possible, matched for gender, age and HLA-DRB1*15:01. EBV load was determined by qPCR, and IgG responses to key EBV antigens were determined by ELISA, immunofluorescence and Western blot, and tetanus toxoid antibody responses by multiplex bead array. EBV-specific T cell responses were determined ex vivo by intracellular cytokine staining (ICS) and cross-reactivity of in vitro-expanded responses probed against 9 novel Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viruses expressing candidate CNS autoantigens. Results: EBV load in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) was unchanged in pwMS compared to HC. Serologically, while tetanus toxoid responses were unchanged between groups, IgG responses to EBNA1 and virus capsid antigen (VCA) were significantly elevated (EBNA1 p = 0.0079, VCA p = 0.0298) but, importantly, IgG responses to EBNA2 and the EBNA3 family antigens were also more frequently detected in pwMS (EBNA2 p = 0.042 and EBNA3 p = 0.005). In ex vivo assays, T cell responses to autologous EBV-transformed B cells and to EBNA1 were largely unchanged numerically, but significantly increased IL-2 production was observed in response to certain stimuli in pwMS. EBV-specific polyclonal T cell lines from both MS and HC showed high levels of autoantigen recognition by ICS, and several neuronal proteins emerged as common targets including MOG, MBP, PLP and MOBP. Discussion: Elevated serum EBV-specific antibody responses in the MS group were found to extend beyond EBNA1, suggesting a larger dysregulation of EBV-specific antibody responses than previously recognised. Differences in T cell responses to EBV were more difficult to discern, however stimulating EBV-expanded polyclonal T cell lines with 9 candidate CNS autoantigens revealed a high level of autoreactivity and indicate a far-reaching ability of the virus-induced T cell compartment to damage the CNS. How EBV contributes to this process is unknown, but some research suggests that immune responses to EBV may react to proteins in the brain that mimic virus proteins. We investigated T-cell and antibody responses to EBV in people with MS (pwMS) and, as controls, people persistently infected with EBV who acquired the virus either silently or symptomatically. pwMS had more frequent antibody responses to several viral proteins, including EBNA1, EBNA2, EBNA3A, EBNA3B and VCA, but their EBV viral load was similar. T cell responses to EBV-transformed B-cells and EBNA1 were only slightly different in pwMS compared to controls. However, T-cell lines from pwMS and healthy individuals, established using each person's own EBV-infected B-cell line, could also respond to multiple brain proteins. T-cell responses to myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) were particularly common and we isolated T-cells that cross-recognised MOG and EBNA1. Our findings suggest that adaptive immune responses to EBV–which would normally fight EBV infection–are dysregulated in MS and can also target multiple proteins in the brain, indicating their likely involvement in disease. Background: Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) is an important infectious disease that has a significant economic impact on dairy farms. Early detection of antibodies against BVD virus within herds can help reduce economic losses resulting from impaired animal health and reproductive performance. However, commercial ELISA tests tend to be expensive and unaffordable for smallholder farmers in Thailand. This study aims to develop an in-house indirect ELISA for the detection of antibodies to BVD. Methods: Gene synthesis and codon optimization were performed prior to protein expression. The prepared recombinant NS3 protein was confirmed through western blot analysis. Assay validation involved a comparison with an indirect commercial ELISA using a set of field serum samples (n=497) as references to evaluate its diagnostic accuracy. Measurements for test agreement and assay repeatability were calculated to assess performance. Result: The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.86, indicating good discrimination between BVDVpositive and negative animals. The kappa coefficient, with an identified optimal cut-off value, was 0.577, indicated moderate agreement between the two tests. Additionally, the assay exhibited acceptable repeatability, with coefficients of variations (CVs) of 8.8% and 15.1% for intra-assay and inter-assay variations, respectively. This developed ELISA demonstrates both discriminatory ability and repeatability, making it a valuable alternative tool for the serodiagnosis of BVDV infection, especially in low-resource settings. Bovine herpes virus-1 (BoHV-l) infects livestock and causes several forms of disease, the most prominent being bovine infectious rhinotracheitis, infectious balanoposthitis, and infectious postural vulvovaginitis. Infection can result in substantial loss, especially in feedlot cattle. The current study aimed to determine BoHV-l in cows by using the conventional polymerase chain reaction. A total of 184 plasma and nasal swab samples were collected from cattle 6 months to 2 years of age of both sexes and of various breeds and from different regions in Mosul city between October 2020 and March 2022. The prevalence of BoHV-1 in cattle was 14/184 (7.6%). Animals infected with BoHV-l had signs of fever, cough, mucoserous eye and nasal secretions, dyspnea, appearance of abnormal respiratory sounds, as well as congestion of the mucous membranes of the eyes. The prevalence of BoHV-1 was significantly higher in males (9.7%) (P=0.05) than in females, in animals 6-8 months of age - 11/100 (10%) (P=0.05) compared to those between 9 months and 2 years of age. Moreover, no significant difference between native and imported breeds, as well as between respiratory, ocular, and genital forms was found out. Objective: Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) disease is a viral infection in cows caused by a single-stranded plus-sense RNA virus of the Pestivirus genus under the Flaviviridae family. The clinical manifestation of BVD mainly includes diarrhea and immunosuppression, thereby exacerbating various respiratory diseases. This study was conducted to detect and molecularly characterize the bovine viral diarrhea disease virus (BVDV) in cattle on selected farms in Selangor, Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed for antigen detection in 253 plasma samples collected from cows using a cross-sectional study design. We selected the 5 untranslated regions (5'-UTR) region and the E2 region to compare the genetic differences between the isolates. Results: One sample was found to be positive (1/253) following RT-PCR targeting the conserved 5'-UTR region of BVDV. Thus, BVDV antigen prevalence was 0.40% (95% confidence interval: 0.0%-2.2%). By targeting the hypervariable E2 region of the isolated virus, UPM/MAL/BVDV/D17, the virus was classified under the subgenotype BVDV-1a. Conclusion: BVDV is present and circulating on selected cattle farms in Selangor, Malaysia. Given the presence of BVDV in several subgenotypes, the screening of all incoming cattle at Malaysia's border is pertinent to prevent the entry of other BVDV subgenotypes into the country. Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is a chronic zoonotic disease affecting cattle of all age groups including wild animals. It poses a significant threat to public health and high economic losses to dairy farmers. While the disease has been eradicated from most of the developed countries through extensive surveillance, testing and culling strategy, it is endemic in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East countries. Currently, there is limited research regarding the prevalence of bTB in cattle in Bhutan. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of bTB in cattle in six districts of eastern Bhutan. A two-stage probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling strategy was used to determine the number of animals from which serum samples needed to be collected in each district and sub-district. All farms and cattle for sampling were randomly selected from the data in the annual livestock census of 2020. The samples were tested using bTB ELISA test kit. The seroprevalence and their 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Logistic regression models were constructed to assess the influence of various individual animal and environmental risk factors (breed, age, sex, source of animal, body condition scores of animals, respiratory system status) associated with sero-positivity in animals. The study revealed an apparent seroprevalence of 2.57% (25/971 cattle; 95% CI:1.58–3.57), with an estimated true seroprevalence of 0.91% (95% CI: 0.0–2.81). However, none of the variables were found to be significantly associated with bTB seroprevalence in cattle. We recommend, further sampling and employment of confirmatory testing to fully ascertain the extent of bTB in the cattle herds in eastern Bhutan for prevention and control. The disease can be transmitted to humans via consumption of raw milk or through inhalation of infected aerosols. Worldwide, the bovine tuberculosis accounts for 10% of the human tuberculosis cases. In Bhutan, the prevalence and incidence of bTB in both cattle and humans are unknown. In this study, we estimated the seroprevalence of bTB among cattle in six eastern districts of Bhutan. We collected serum samples from 971 cattle and tested them for bovine tuberculosis using ELISA. Our study demonstrated an apparent prevalence of 2.57% (95% CI:1.58–3.57) and a true prevalence of 0.91% (95% CI: 0.0–2.81). Additionally, we assessed factors such as age, breed and farm location that could affect the prevalence of bTB, but none of these factors were significantly associated with the prevalence of bTB. Our study revealed a very low seroprevalence of bTB, among cattle in eastern Bhutan. By definition, ill and injured animals are on the negative valence of animal welfare. For beef cattle kept in feedlot settings, advances in cattle health management have resulted in a greater understanding and prevention of illness and injury. However, the management of cattle once they become ill and injured is an understudied area, and there are gaps in knowledge that could inform evidence-based decision-making and strengthen welfare for this population. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the acquired knowledge regarding ill and injured feedlot cattle welfare, focusing on existing knowledge gaps and implications for hospital and chronic pen management and welfare assurance. Ill and injured feedlot cattle consist of acutely impaired animals with short-term health conditions that resolve with treatment and chronically impaired animals with long-term health conditions that may be difficult to treat. A literature search identified 110 articles that mentioned welfare and ill and injured feedlot cattle, but the population of interest in most of these articles was healthy cattle, not ill and injured cattle. Articles about managing ill and injured cattle in specialized hospital (n = 12) or chronic (n = 2) pens were even more sparse. Results from this literature search will be used to outline the understanding of acutely and chronically ill and injured feedlot cattle, including common dispositions and welfare considerations, behavior during convalescence, and strategies for identifying and managing ill and injured cattle. Finally, by working through specific ailments common in commercial feedlot environments, we illustrate how the Five Domains Model can be used to explore feelings and experiences and subsequent welfare state of individual ill or injured feedlot cattle. Using this approach and our knowledge of current industry practices, we identify relevant animal-based outcomes and critical research questions to strengthen knowledge in this area. A better understanding of this overlooked topic will inform future research and the development of evidencebased guidelines to help producers care for this vulnerable population. Background: A number of studies have detected relationships between weather and diarrhea. Few have investigated associations with specific enteric pathogens. Understanding pathogen-specific relationships with weather is crucial to inform public health in low-resource settings that are especially vulnerable to climate change. Objectives: Our objectives were to identify weather and environmental risk factors associated with diarrhea and enteropathogen prevalence in young children in rural Bangladesh, a population with high diarrheal disease burden and vulnerability to weather shifts under climate change. Methods: We matched temperature, precipitation, surface water, and humidity data to observational longitudinal data from a cluster-randomized trial that measured diarrhea and enteropathogen prevalence in children 6 months-5.5 years from 2012–2016. We fit generalized additive mixed models with cubic regression splines and restricted maximum likelihood estimation for smoothing parameters. Results: Comparing weeks with 30°C versus 15°C average temperature, prevalence was 3.5% higher for diarrhea, 7.3% higher for Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), 17.3% higher for enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), and 8.0% higher for Cryptosporidium. Above-median weekly precipitation (median: 13mm; range: 0-396mm) was associated with 29% higher diarrhea (adjusted prevalence ratio 1.29, 95% CI 1.07, 1.55); higher Cryptosporidium, ETEC, STEC, Shigella, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, and adenovirus 40/41; and lower Giardia, sapovirus, and norovirus prevalence. Other associations were weak or null. Discussion: Higher temperatures and precipitation were associated with higher prevalence of diarrhea and multiple enteropathogens; higher precipitation was associated with lower prevalence of some enteric viruses. Our findings emphasize the heterogeneity of the relationships between hydrometeorological variables and specific enteropathogens, which can be masked when looking at composite measures like all-cause diarrhea. Our results suggest that preventive interventions targeted to reduce enteropathogens just before and during the rainy season may more effectively reduce child diarrhea and enteric pathogen carriage in rural Bangladesh and in settings with similar meteorological characteristics, infrastructure, and enteropathogen transmission. Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an infectious and contagious bacterial respiratory disease that affects cattle with significant economic losses to the African animal industry. The use of ELISA kits based on monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) will aid in quick and precise diagnosis of CBPP, contributing to disease control and prevention in cattle. Thus, this research aims to develop and evaluate monoclonal antibodies against CBPP (T1/44) antigen for use in ELISA kits for CBPP diagnosis. Hybridoma technology was used to develop monoclonal antibodies that recognize and bind to the CBPP (T1/44) antigen. The antibody-secreting hybridomas were produced after immunizing mice with purified CBPP antigens. The hybridomas were screened for high sensitivity, specificity, and liking to the antigen. The selected mAbs were assessed for sensitivity and specificity against CBPP antigen using different immunoassays, dot-blot, ELISA, and mouse mAb isotyping. The monoclonal antibodies were profoundly specific, with a higher hindrance to CBPP antigen (<0.50 OD) while lacking cross-reactivity to other antigens. The monoclonal antibodies could distinguish CBPP antigen at low concentrations, showing their high sensitivity (>80% PI). The isotyped mAbs of intrigued appeared to have a place in the IgG class. These identified monoclonal antibodies can be utilized to develop an ELISA kit for CBPP diagnosis, which would give a fast, precise, and cost-effective strategy for screening and checking CBPP in cattle herds. The L 1 region of bovine adenovirus (BAdV)-3 encodes a multifunctional protein named protein VII. Anti-protein VII sera detected a protein of 26 kDa in transfected or BAdV-3-infected cells, which localizes to nucleus and nucleolus of infected/transfected cells. Analysis of mutant protein VII identified four redundant overlapping nuclear/nucleolar localization signals as deletion of all four potential nuclear/nucleolar localization signals localizes protein VII predominantly to the cytoplasm. The nuclear import of protein VII appears to use importin α (α-1), importin-β (β-1) and transportin-3 nuclear transport receptors. In addition, different nuclear transport receptors also require part of protein VII outside nuclear localization sequences for efficient interaction. Proteomic analysis of protein complexes purified from recombinant BAdV-3 expressing protein VII containing Strep Tag II identified potential viral and cellular proteins interacting with protein VII. Here, we confirm that protein VII interacts with IVa2 and protein VIII in BAdV-3-infected cells. Background and Aim: Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is endemic in North Africa and the Mediterranean Basin with high socioeconomic impacts. However, there are no data on this disease in Libya. One of the aims of this study was to provide data on BVD in Libya, to fill in the gap in the region and to investigate the level of seroprevalence of BVD virus (BVDV) in Libya and associated risk factors. Material and Methods: A total of 1599 serum samples were collected from cattle herds belonging to seven Libyan regions. All sera were assayed using a screening enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of antibodies against BVDV. Results: The overall seroprevalence of BVDV was estimated to be 48.6% (95% confidence interval, 46.08%-50.98%). A seroprevalence rate of 36.8% was detected in cattle aged <1 year, 41.0% in cattle aged between 1 and 2 years, and 49.7% in cattle aged >2 years. Statistically significant differences (p = 0.001) were observed between age groups. BVDV seroprevalence was significantly associated with geographical region (p = 0.033). Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on BVD in Libya, and the results suggest that BVD is endemic in Libya. Bovine mastitis causes huge economic losses to the dairy industry all over the world. Staphylococcus aureus is a most common causative agent of bovine mastitis. The study was undertaken with an objective of isolation, identification and biochemical characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine mastitis cases. Total of 256 bovine milk samples (32 from clinical mastitis and 224 from suspected cases of subclinical mastitis) were collected from in and around Navsari. Of the 224 SCM suspected milk samples screened by California mastitis test (CMT), 108 (48.21 %) samples were found positive for subclinical mastitis, whereas all 32 clinical mastitis samples were CMT positive. Thus total 140 bovine milk samples (32 clinical and 108 subclinical mastitis) were used for detection of Staphylococcus aureus. Out of these, 17 (12.14%) isolates were identified as Staphylococcus aureus on the basis of cultural characteristics and biochemical tests. From 17 S. aureus, 16 (94.11%) isolates were categorized as mannitol fermenter and coagulase positive, while 1 (5.88%) isolate was mannitol non-fermenter and coagulase negative. Majority of the isolates 10 (58.82%) exhibited beta-haemolysis, whereas 5 (29.41%) isolates showed alpha-haemolysis and 2 (11.76%) isolates were non-haemolytic on 5% sheep blood agar. Among 17 S. aureus isolates, 14 (82.35%) isolates exhibited slime production, while 6 (11.76%) isolates were negative for slime production. This study showed overall 12.14 % incidence of bovine mastitis by Staphylococcus aureus, whereas cases of clinical mastitis and sub-clinical mastitis noted as 9.30% and 12.96%, respectively, by S. aureus. Background: Malaria elimination using current tools has stalled in many areas. Ivermectin (IVM) is a broad-antiparasitic drug and mosquitocide and has been proposed as a tool for accelerating progress towards malaria elimination. Under laboratory conditions, IVM has been shown to reduce the survival of adult Anopheles populations that have fed on IVM-treated mammals. Treating cattle with IVM has been proposed as an important contribution to malaria vector management, however, the impacts of IVM in this One Health use case have been untested in field trials in Southeast Asia. Methods: Through a randomized village-based trial, this study quantified the effect of IVM-treated cattle on anopheline populations in treated vs. untreated villages in Central Vietnam. Local zebu cattle in six rural villages were included in this study. In three villages, cattle were treated with IVM at established veterinary dosages, and in three additional villages cattle were left as untreated controls. For the main study outcome, the mosquito populations in all villages were sampled using cattle-baited traps for six nights before, and six nights after a 2-day treatment IVM-administration (intervention) period. Anopheline species were characterized using taxonomic keys. The impact of the intervention was analyzed using a difference-in-differences (DID) approach with generalized estimating equations (with negative binomial distribution and robust errors). This intervention was powered to detect a 50% reduction in total nightly Anopheles spp. vector catches from cattle-baited traps. Given the unusual diversity in anopheline populations, exploratory analyses examined taxon-level differences in the ecological population diversity. Results: Across the treated villages, 1,112 of 1,527 censused cows (73% overall; range 67% to 83%) were treated with IVM. In both control and treated villages, there was a 30% to 40% decrease in total anophelines captured in the post-intervention period as compared to the pre-intervention period. In the control villages, there were 1,873 captured pre-intervention and 1,079 captured during the post-intervention period. In the treated villages, there were 1,594 captured pre-intervention, and 1,101 captured during the post-intervention period. The difference in differences model analysis comparing total captures between arms was not statistically significant (p = 0.61). Secondary outcomes of vector population diversity found that in three villages (one control and two treatment) Brillouin's index increased, and in three villages (two control and one treatment) Brillouin's index decreased. When examining biodiversity by trapping-night, there were no clear trends in treated or untreated vector populations. Additionally, there were no clear trends when examining the components of biodiversity: richness and evenness. Conclusions: The ability of this study to quantify the impacts of IVM treatment was limited due to unexpectedly large spatiotemporal variability in trapping rates; an area-wide decrease in trapping counts across all six villages post-intervention; and potential spillover effects. However, this study provides important data to directly inform future studies in the GMS and beyond for IVM-based vector control. A proposed tool for use as a mosquitocide is zooprophylaxis-aided ivermectin-based elimination (i.e., treating cattle with ivermectin to kill feeding mosquitoes). Ivermectin (IVM) is an inexpensive helminthicide and is safe for use in mammals. In laboratory studies, mosquitoes feeding on IVM-treated cattle have increased mortality compared to controls. Presented here is a randomized village-based trial to determine whether IVM treatment can reduce the number of captured mosquitoes. Six villages in Central Vietnam were randomly assigned to either receive IVM treatment or remain a control. Mosquitoes in each village were captured for six trap nights, followed by treatment in three villages, followed by trapping for an additional six nights. A difference-in-differences model did not show any statistically significant differences in capture rates between the treated and control villages. Factors including the amount of circulating IVM in the cattle population, crossover of mosquito populations, and differential feeding habits may have affected captures. A total of 18 species were identified using dichotomous keys. In post hoc analyses, no clear trends were observed in the anopheline populations after IVM treatment, as measured by ecological diversity metrics. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) persistently infects 95% of adults worldwide and is associated with multiple human lymphomas that express characteristic EBV latency programs used by the virus to navigate the B-cell compartment. Upon primary infection, the EBV latency III program, comprised of six Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigens (EBNA) and two Latent Membrane Protein (LMP) antigens, drives infected B-cells into germinal center (GC). By incompletely understood mechanisms, GC microenvironmental cues trigger the EBV genome to switch to the latency II program, comprised of EBNA1, LMP1 and LMP2A and observed in GC-derived Hodgkin lymphoma. To gain insights into pathways and epigenetic mechanisms that control EBV latency reprogramming as EBV-infected B-cells encounter microenvironmental cues, we characterized GC cytokine effects on EBV latency protein expression and on the EBV epigenome. We confirmed and extended prior studies highlighting GC cytokine effects in support of the latency II transition. The T-follicular helper cytokine interleukin 21 (IL-21), which is a major regulator of GC responses, and to a lesser extent IL-4 and IL-10, hyper-induced LMP1 expression, while repressing EBNA expression. However, follicular dendritic cell cytokines including IL-15 and IL-27 downmodulate EBNA but not LMP1 expression. CRISPR editing highlighted that STAT3 and STAT5 were necessary for cytokine mediated EBNA silencing via epigenetic effects at the EBV genomic C promoter. By contrast, STAT3 was instead necessary for LMP1 promoter epigenetic remodeling, including gain of activating histone chromatin marks and loss of repressive polycomb repressive complex silencing marks. Thus, EBV has evolved to coopt STAT signaling to oppositely regulate the epigenetic status of key viral genomic promoters in response to GC cytokine cues. However, knowledge has remained incomplete about how GC microenvironmental cues trigger switching to latency II, where only one EBNA and two LMP are expressed, a program observed in Hodgkin lymphoma. Building on prior evidence that GC cytokines are a major cue, we systematically tested effects of cytokines secreted by GC-resident T follicular helper and follicular dendritic cells on EBV latency gene expression and on epigenetic remodeling of their promoters. This highlighted that a range of GC cytokines repress latency III EBNA, while only several support LMP1 expression, major events in the transition between the latency III and II programs. We identified key downstream roles of JAK/STAT signaling in relaying cytokine signals to the EBV epigenome, including obligatory STAT3 and 5 roles in rewiring of C and LMP promoter histone epigenetic marks. Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is one of the most common diseases in the cattle industry worldwide; it is caused by multiple bacterial or viral coinfections, of which Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) and bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) are the most notable pathogens. Although live vaccines have demonstrated better efficacy against BRD induced by both pathogens, there are no combined live and marker vaccines. Therefore, we developed an attenuated and marker M. bovis-BoHV-1 combined vaccine based on the M. bovis HB150 and BoHV-1 gG-/tk-strain previously constructed in our lab and evaluated in rabbits. This study aimed to further evaluate its safety and protective efficacy in cattle using different antigen ratios. After immunization, all vaccinated cattle had a normal rectal temperature and mental status without respiratory symptoms. CD4+, CD8+, and CD19+ cells significantly increased in immunized cattle and induced higher humoral and cellular immune responses, and the expression of key cytokines such as IL-4, IL-12, TNF-α, and IFN-γ can be promoted after vaccination. The 1.0 x 108 CFU of M. bovis HB150 and 1.0 x 106 TCID50 BoHV-1 gG-/tk-combined strain elicited the most antibodies while significantly increasing IgG and cellular immunity after challenge. In conclusion, the M. bovis HB150 and BoHV-1 gG-/tk-combined strain was clinically safe and protective in calves; the mix of 1.0 x 108 CFU of M. bovis HB150 and 1.0 x 106 TCID50 BoHV-1 gG-/tk- strain was most promising due to its low amount of shedding and highest humoral and cellular immune responses compared with others. Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is the causative agent of bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), which results in significant economic losses in the global cattle industry. Fortunately, various diagnostic methods available for BVDV have been established. They include etiological methods, such as virus isolation (VI); serological methods, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence assay (IFA), and immunohistochemistry (IHC); molecular methods, such as reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), real-time PCR, digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA), and CRISPR-Cas system; and biosensors. This review summarizes the current diagnostic methods for BVDV, discussing their advantages and disadvantages, and proposes future perspectives for the diagnosis of BVDV, with the intention of providing valuable guidance for effective diagnosis and control of BVD disease. Biosecurity refers to a set of practices that prevents and/or controls the introduction, spread, and elimination of harmful biological agents in a production system. In this study, we aimed to survey the biosecurity practices and determine their correlation with the size of production systems. A biosecurity assessment form was provided to 69 farms in the Campos Gerais region of Paraná, Brazil. The questionnaire was divided into two sections: general and bovine viral diarrhea virus- and bovine herpesvirus type-1-specific sections. The general section covered topics on traffic control, quarantine and animal isolation, hygiene practices, carcass disposal, and disease monitoring/control. The specific section consisted of questions on the reproductive and respiratory factors, use of antimicrobials, and vaccination schedule. The 69 farms were also classified into small (≤ 61), medium (62-201), and large (≥ 202) size farms based on the number of lactating cows. Moreover, multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) was performed between the biosecurity measures and farm size. The main risk factors and variability were related to the traffic control of people, animals, and vehicles/equipment, animal quarantine/isolation, and hygiene practices. MCA revealed that the small farms exhibited a lack of biosecurity measures, including those related to traffic control, animal quarantine, and hygiene. In medium-size farms, contact between bovine animals of different ages and difficulty in animal isolation in the quarantine system were among the main risk factors. In contrast, isolation of sick animals was easy, but the need to frequently purchase cattle was an important risk factor in large farms. These results highlight the relationship between biosecurity measures and farm size, providing valuable insights for the development of better biosecurity plans for production systems. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of reproductive and infectious diseases in tropical cattle in the Tambopata and Tahuamanu Provinces in the department of Madre de Dios, Peru. SAMPLE: 156 bovines from 7 cattle farms were sampled. These farms used exclusive grazing for food and natural mating for reproduction and did not have sanitary or vaccination programs. METHODS: The serum of blood samples was subjected to ELISA with commercial kits for the detection of antibodies against Neospora caninum, Mycobacterium avium subsp paratuberculosis (MAP), Leptospira interrogans, pestivirus bovine viral diarrhea virus-1, retrovirus bovine leukemia virus (BLV), orbivirus bluetongue virus (BTV), and herpesvirus bovine herpes virus-1 (BHV). The data were analyzed by means of association tests with χ2 (P < .05) and Spearman rank correlation (P < .05) in the SPSS v.15.0 software (IBM Corp). RESULTS: A low prevalence of antibodies to L interrogans, N caninum, M avium subsp paratuberculosis, bovine viral diarrhea virus-1 was found, but it was high to BTV, BLV, and BHV (100%, 53.85%, and 72.44%, respectively). The presence of BLV and BHV was higher in the Las Piedras District, bovines less than 5 years old, and cattle with breed characteristics of zebu and crossbred (P < .01). In addition, there was a significant correlation between both infections, showing 83.3% of BLV positivity that were also BHV positive (P < .01). CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The high prevalence of antibodies to BTV, BHV, and BLV could be due to livestock management practices, direct contact with infected animals, and variation of the presence of vectors and natural reservoirs in the context of climate change in the tropics. Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) is a major economic threat to the livestock industry due to its widespread infection among cattle around the world. Due to resistant strains and regulatory system inadequacies, traditional therapeutic vaccines failed to eradicate it. In this study, a Multi-Epitope Vaccine (MEV) with noticeable immunological properties is proposed that can mitigate these problems by decreasing cross-contamination, autoimmune responses, and inflammatory responses. Using Immunoinformatics approaches, putative CTL- and B-cell epitopes from four BVDV proteins (E1, E2, Erns, and NS3) were predicted and scrutinized after immunogenic profiling. The robust binding of chimeric vaccine to bovine TLR3 was validated through protein-protein docking investigations. The molecular dynamic simulation proved it to be stable in a biological system. The proposed MEV proved vital in strengthening the host immunity upon infection as the immunological simulation was projected to induce immunoglobulins, interleukins, interferons, helper T cells, and cytotoxic T cells. Introduction: Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that affects cattle belonging to genus Capripoxvirus (Poxviridae) and lead to significant economic losses. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the distribution of lumpy skin disease (LSD) outbreaks and predict future patterns based on retrospective outbreak reports in Ethiopia. Methods: Data were collected through direct communication with regional laboratories and a hierarchical reporting system from the Peasant Associations to Ministry of Agriculture. Time-series data for the LSD outbreaks were analyzed using classical additive time-series decomposition and STL decomposition. Four models (ARIMA, SARIMA, ETS, STLF) were also used to forecast the number of LSD outbreaks that occurred each month for the years (2021-2025) after the models' accuracy test was performed. Additionally, the space-time permutation model (STP) were also used to study retrospective space-time cluster analysis of LSD outbreaks in Ethiopia. Results: This study examined the geographical and temporal distribution of LSD outbreaks in Ethiopia from 2008 to 2020, reporting a total of 3,256 LSD outbreaks, 14,754 LSD-positive cases, 7,758 deaths, and 289 slaughters. It also covered approximately 68% of Ethiopia's districts, with Oromia reporting the highest LSD outbreaks. In the LSD's temporal distribution, the highest peak was reported following the rainy season in September to December and its lowest peak in the dry months of April and May. Out of the four models tested for forecasting, the SARIMA (3, 0, 0) (2, 1, 0) [12] model performed well for the validation data, while the STLF+Random Walk had a robust prediction for the training data. Thus, the SARIMA and STLF+Random Walk models produced a more accurate forecast of LSD outbreaks between 2020 and 2025. From retrospective Space-Time Cluster Analysis of LSD, eight possible clusters were also identified, with five of them located in central part of Ethiopia. Conclusion: The study's time series and ST-cluster analysis of LSD outbreak data provide valuable insights into the spatial and temporal dynamics of the disease in Ethiopia. These insights can aid in the development of effective strategies to control and prevent the spread of the disease and holds great potential for improving efforts to combat LSD in the country. Background. Eimeriosis, which is caused by several Eimeria species, is a protozoan disease affecting the cattle worldwide. The current investigation was aimed at ascertaining the prevalence of bovine eimeriosis, evaluation of the involved risk variables, and identification of the several Eimeria species that were prevalent in the Kacha Bira district of central Ethiopia. Methods. A cross-sectional coprological assessment of Bovine coccidiosis and its associated risk factors through a simple random sampling technique was conducted from January 2021 to December 2022. Results. The cumulative prevalence of coccidia was 17.83% (82/460) in the current investigation, with Eimeria bovis, Eimeria zuernii, and mixed infections having a respective prevalence of 7.83%, 3.25%, and 6.74%. From the anticipated risk factors, cattle age and months of the year have revealed a statistically significant (p < 0.05) association with the prevalence of eimeriosis in the cattle under investigation. However, there were no statistically significant (p > 0.05) relationships between the coccidia infection and the sex and breed of cattle and the season. Conclusion. During the study, a high prevalence rate of bovine eimeriosis was recorded. Thus, a further detailed study involving molecular techniques to identify prevailing Eimeria species is paramount to develop and put into effect evidence-based control strategies to tackle the prevalence and subsequent effect of eimeriosis. Simple Summary: Buffaloes are typically raised in tropical, flood-prone zones, thus exposed to conditions conducive to the growth of disease-causing pathogens and their vectors. They generally share the habitat with cattle, representing sanitary problems because viral agents can transmit between both species; many are zoonotic and public health concerns. The mobilization and introduction of buffaloes and their biological products from one continent or country to another pose a risk of spreading viral diseases considered exotic in certain regions. This underscores the critical need for rigorous epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases within buffalo herds. Additionally, it highlights the potential implications and risks these diseases pose to other livestock species and public health in newly inhabited regions. This review discusses the more reported viral diseases in water buffaloes, their characteristics, epidemiology, disease behavior, and interaction with other species, vectors, and pathogens. The epidemiology of buffalo viral diseases must be continuously reconsidered and updated to obtain better prevention and control programs. The water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) has great adaptability to rustic environments and more variable conditions than cattle, who generally share the habitat. Diseases carried by buffaloes are relatively unknown and ignored and could be transmissible; an imbalance occurs between pathogens, environment, and susceptible hosts, generating a severe animal health problem. Also relevant is the effect of climate change on the populations of vectors that transmit viral diseases. The discovery of new virus variants that can pass from bovine (Bos) to buffalo or vice versa or to humans has highlighted the relevance of viruses crossing the host barrier. This review discusses the clinical viral diseases most reported in the water buffalo, characteristics, epidemiology, and recent findings about disease behavior, interaction with other species, the host, vectors, and pathogens. Diseases reviewed include Foot and Mouth Disease, Rinderpest, Malignant Catarrhal Fever, Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis, Bovine Viral Diarrhea, and Rabies. Also, vector-borne diseases include Lumpy Skin Disease, Ephemeral Fever, and Blue Tongue. The review also considers emerging viruses such as Buffalo Pox and Schmallenberg and, finally, other viruses such as papillomatosis. Rationale: Respiratory viral infections can be transmitted from pregnant women to their offspring, but frequency, mechanisms, and postnatal outcomes remain unclear. Objectives: The aims of this prospective cohort study were to compare the frequencies of transplacental transmission of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), analyze the concentrations of inflammatory mediators in maternal and fetal blood, and assess clinical consequences. Methods: We recruited pregnant women who developed upper respiratory infections or tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Maternal and cord blood samples were collected at delivery. Study questionnaires and electronic medical records were used to document demographic and medical information. Measurements and Main Results: From October 2020 to June 2022, droplet digital PCR was used to test blood mononuclear cells from 103 mother–baby dyads. Twice more newborns in our sample were vertically infected with RSV compared with SARS-CoV-2 (25.2% [26 of 103] vs. 11.9% [12 of 101]; P = 0.019). Multiplex ELISA measured significantly increased concentrations of several inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in maternal and cord blood from newborns, with evidence of viral exposure in utero compared with control dyads. Prenatal infection was associated with significantly lower birth weight and postnatal weight growth. Conclusions: Data suggest a higher frequency of vertical transmission for RSV than SARS-CoV-2. Intrauterine exposure is associated with fetal inflammation driven by soluble inflammatory mediators, with expression profiles dependent on the virus type and affecting the rate of viral transmission. Introduction: Since 1999, Tunisia has experienced multiple occurrences of Bluetongue (BT) outbreaks, leading to numerous reported cases of infection and mortality in flocks. The re-emergence of the disease in 2020 caused substantial economic losses in cattle, attributed to the incursion of serotype BTV-4. Methods: To evaluate the economic impact of the recent BT episode, we conducted a retrospective study on outbreaks that occurred in Tunisia between August and November 2020, focusing on the impact at the owner's level and its effects on both small ruminants and cattle. A total of 234 ruminant farms (sheep, cattle, and mixed) were randomly selected across Tunisian governorates and included in the study to estimate both the direct and indirect costs of these outbreaks. Results: Total costs were calculated as the sum of losses and expenditures resulting from the BT outbreaks. At the animal level, total losses were estimated to range between 116.280 and 207.086 TND for one infected ewe (€33.721 and 60.055). For one lactating cow, costs varied between 2,590.724 and 3,171.107 TND (€751.310 and 919.621). In cattle, exposure to BTV led to a daily unit milk yield decrease of 12.50 to 14.66 L over an average period of 5 months. Diseased sheep experienced weight loss ranging between 4 and 10 kg during the BT outbreaks. The total mean cost of the 2020 BT outbreak in Tunisian investigated farms was estimated at 1,935 million TND (million €561.15) (range: 1,489 and 2,474 million TND; 431.81 and million €717.46). The most influential costs of the total BT outbreaks were the decrease in milk yield, mortality, and veterinary treatment. Discussion: This study gives valuable insights on the economic impact of the incursion of a new serotype of BT in a naive population in Tunisia. Considering the substantial costs incurred, it is imperative that this disease receives increased attention from stakeholders, including animal owners, veterinary services, practitioners, and decision-makers. Introduction: Thailand experienced a nationwide outbreak of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in 2021, highlighting the need for effective prevention and control strategies. This study aimed to identify herd-level risk factors associated with LSD outbreaks in beef cattle herds across different regions of Thailand. Methods: A case--control study was conducted in upper northeastern, northeastern, and central regions, where face-to-face interviews were conducted with farmers using a semi-structured questionnaire. Univariable and multivariable mixed effect logistic regression analyses were employed to determine the factors associated with LSD outbreaks. A total of 489 beef herds, including 161 LSD outbreak herds and 328 non-LSD herds, were investigated. Results and discussion: Results showed that 66% of farmers have operated beef herds for more than five years. There were very few animal movements during the outbreak period. None of the cattle had been vaccinated with LSD vaccines. Insects that have the potential to act as vectors for LSD were observed in all herds. Thirty-four percent of farmers have implemented insect control measures. The final mixed effect logistic regression model identified herds operating for more than five years (odds ratio [OR]: 1.62, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.04--2.53) and the absence of insect control management on the herd (OR: 2.05, 95% CI: 1.29--3.25) to be associated with LSD outbreaks. The implementation of insectvector control measures in areas at risk of LSD, especially for herds without vaccination against the disease, should be emphasized. This study provides the first report on risk factors for LSD outbreaks in naïve cattle herds in Thailand and offers useful information for the development of LSD prevention and control programs within the country's context. Cryptosporidium spp., an intracellular extra cytoplasmic localized protozoan, is one of the leading infectious agents in the etiology of neonatal diarrheal syndrome of ruminants. Cryptosporidiosis is a common disease seen all over the world. However molecular epidemiologic studies are limited on distribution of Cryptosporidium parvum subtypes in the world. To date, nearly 20 subtypes of C. parvum have been described. Gene sequence analysis of the glycoprotein 60 structural protein (GP60) is used to identify subtypes. It is reported that the GP60 gene sequence shows a high degree of genetic polymorphism among the strains. In this study, it was aimed to determine the subtypes of C. parvum parasite in cow and calf stool samples by using GP60 gene sequence analysis. A total of 109 stool samples from calves (<30 days) found to be Cryptosporidium spp. positive by Kinyoun Acid Fast staining were further studied for subtyping. Samples were obtained from farms in 2 regions of Türkiye (Burdur/Yesilova and Aydin provinces). DNA isolation from feces was done with the QIAamp Stool Mini Kit. Cryptosporidium specie identification was done by 18S gene sequences analysis. Nested PCR was performed to amplify GP60 gene and sequences of amplicons were used to identify subtypes. The repeat regions at the serine residue in the GP60 sequences were used to define the subtypes. The results of C. parvum subtyping study showed that IIaA13G2R1 subtype was the most common subtype. IIaA13G2R1 was detected in 73% (80/109) of 109 stool samples, followed by IIaA14G1R1 with 15 samples (14%), IIaA2R1 with 12 samples (11%), and IIaA16R1 and IIaA5G1R1 subtypes with one sample each (1%). In subtype studies based on the GP60 sequence, IIaA15G2R1 was found to be the most common in the world, however this subtype was not found among our samples. In our study, two new subtypes were found, IIaA2R1 and IIaA5G1R1 subtypes. These subtypes were defined for the first time. The subtype, IIaA16R1 was determined to be new in Türkiye. Molecular epidemiology studies are important for better understanding the dissemination of subtypes. IIaA13G2R1 is the most common subtype in Türkiye and the IIaA15G2R1 the most common subtype in the world were absent among our samples. The number of studies on Cryptosporidium parvum subtyping in Türkiye is limited. Our study, the first subtyping study was carried out among cattle in Aydın province. This article discusses the synthesis of novel benzimidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles, which have various biological properties including antitumor, antimicrobial, and antifungal activities. The authors describe a three-component, one-pot synthesis of these compounds and optimized the reaction conditions to obtain good yields. The synthesized compounds were characterized using various analytical techniques. The article also provides a series of chemical analyses for different compounds, including their physical properties and spectroscopic data. Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) is a vector-borne viral disease caused by the RNA virus which belongs to the genus Ephemerovirus and the family Rhabdoviridae. To evaluate the effect of the risk factors like the breed of cattle and buffaloes, age, sex, lactation, housing and region on the bovine ephemeral fever virus (BEFV) prevalence, ELISA and virus neutralisation (VN) tests (n = 600) were performed for the BEFV prevalence. The seroprevalence in cattle was 45.6% and 42% by ELISA and VN, respectively (P = 0.001). The breed-wise seropositive ratio was (55-64%) in cattle and (22.5-18.3%) in buffaloes by VN and ELISA. The sex-wise prevalence was (40-49.4%) in females and (35.8-46%) in males by VN and ELISA in cattle and a similar prevalence was reported in buffaloes. The age-wise prevalence in bovines by ELISA was 5.33, 22.66 and 17.66% in the age group < 1 year, 1-3 years and > 3 years, respectively. The disease prevalence was higher in the age group of 1-3 years. The prevalence was higher during the 3rd lactation in bovines. The region-wise prevalence was higher in the 07 districts while lower (18-21%) in Rawalpindi District by VN and ELISA, respectively (P = 0.001). Commercial dairy farms of cattle showed a higher disease prevalence (52% and 44%) than non-commercial farms (38% and 36%) by ELISA and VN, respectively (P = 0.227). Exotic cows showed higher disease prevalence (76.67% and 70%) by ELISA and VN. The mortality in bovines was 5% (7.7% and 2.3%) in the cattle and buffaloes. The case fatality of BEFV in bovines was 12.25%. There was a significant effect of the risk factors like the breed, age, sex, lactation, housing and region on the BEFV prevalence. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), a tick-borne virus of the Orthonairovirus genus, persistently infects tick cells. It has been reported to establish persistent infection in non-human primates, but virological analysis has not yet been performed in human cells. Here, we investigated whether and how nairoviruses persistently infect human cells using Hazara orthonairovirus (HAZV), a surrogate model for CCHFV. We established a human cell line that was persistently infected with HAZV. Surprisingly, virions of persistently infected HAZV (HAZVpi) were not observed in the culture supernatants. There were five mutations (mut1, mut2, mut3, mut4, and mut5) in L protein of HAZVpi. Mutations in L protein of HAZVpi contribute to non-detection of virion in the supernatants. Lmut4 was found to cause low viral growth rate, despite its high polymerase activity. The low growth rate was restored by Lmut2, Lmut3, and Lmut5. The polymerase activity of Lmut1 was extremely low, and recombinant HAZV carrying Lmut1 (rHAZV/Lmut1) was not released into the supernatants. However, genomes of rHAZV/Lmut1 were retained in the infected cells. All mutations (Lmut1-5) found in L protein of HAZVpi were required for experimental reproduction of HAZVpi, and only Lmut1 and Lmut4 were insufficient. We demonstrated that point mutations in viral polymerase contribute to the establishment of persistent HAZV infection. Furthermore, innate immunity was found to be suppressed in HAZVpi-infected cells, which also potentially contributes to viral persistence. Bovine babesiosis, caused by the protozoan Babesia bigemina, is one of the most important hemoparasite diseases of cattle in Mexico and the world. An attenuated B. bigemina strain maintained under in vitro culture conditions has been used as a live attenuated vaccine; however, the biological mechanisms involved in attenuation are unknown. The objective of this study was to identify, through a comparative transcriptomics approach, the components of the B. bigemina virulent parasites that are differentially expressed in vivo, as opposed to those expressed by B. bigemina attenuated vaccine parasites when inoculated into naïve cattle. The biological material under study was obtained by inoculating spleen-intact cattle with infected erythrocytes containing either the attenuated strain or a virulent field strain. After RNA extraction, transcriptomic analysis (RNA-seq) was performed, followed by bioinformatic Differential Expression (DE) analysis and Gene Ontology (GO) term enrichment. The high-throughput sequencing results obtained by analyzing three biological replicates for each parasite strain ranged from 9,504,000 to 9,656,000, and 13,400,000 to 15,750,000 reads for the B. bigemina attenuated and virulent strains, respectively. At least 519 differentially expressed genes were identified in the analyzed strains. In addition, GO analysis revealed both similarities and differences across the three categories: cellular components, biological processes, and molecular functions. The attenuated strain of B. bigemina derived from in vitro culture presents global transcriptomic changes when compared to the virulent strain. Moreover, the obtained data provide insights into the potential molecular mechanisms associated with the attenuation or pathogenicity of each analyzed strain, offering molecular markers that might be associated with virulence or potential vaccine candidates. Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a highly contagious viral disease that causes significant economic losses in cattle populations globally. This study aimed to isolate and detect the LSD virus responsible for an outbreak in selected areas (Daaroo Labuu, Hawwii Guddina, and Gumbi Bordede district) of the West Hararghe Zone in Ethiopia between January 2020 and December 2021. Out of the 625 animals examined for the presence of LSD, only 73 animals showed clinical signs, and skin scrapes were collected from these animals for further analysis. Among those, 12 animals (1.9%) succumbed to the disease. Skin biopsy samples from 45 animals displaying clinical signs of LSD were inoculated in Vero cell lines because of limited equipment. After three blind passages, all samples developed cytopathic effects (CPEs). The presence of the LSD virus was confirmed using real-time PCR. Conventional PCR detected LSDV in 47 (64.4%) of the skin scrap samples, while high-resolution melt qPCR detected it in 49 (67.1%) samples. The study revealed a morbidity rate of 11.68%, a mortality rate of 1.92%, and a case fatality rate of 16.44% based on clinical data. The findings suggest that LSD causes significant economic losses, even in vaccinated animals prior to an outbreak. To effectively control and eradicate LSD, the government should develop new strategic policies. Community awareness campaigns are necessary to improve vector control measures and drainage systems. In addition, the present vaccination policy and strategy should be re-evaluated for effectiveness. This study focused on a specific region and timeframe, limiting generalizability. Factors such as environmental conditions and management practices were not extensively explored. Similar studies should be conducted in different regions to assess the prevalence and genetic diversity of LSDV. The effectiveness of control measures and vaccination strategies should be investigated. The impact of environmental factors and management practices on LSD transmission and disease severity warrants further exploration. This study provides insights into the detection and isolation of the LSD virus during an outbreak in the West Hararghe Zone of Ethiopia. The results highlight the need for continued surveillance and monitoring of emerging infectious diseases in the region. Pigs are pivotal in agriculture and biomedical research and hold promise for xenotransplantation. Specific-pathogen-free (SPF) herds are essential for commercial swine production and xenotransplantation research facilities. Commercial herds aim to safeguard animal health, welfare, and productivity, and research facilities require SPF status to protect immunocompromised patients. Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryos are the norm for producing cloned and genetically edited animals. Oocytes for embryo reconstruction are most conveniently sourced from commercial abattoirs with unclear disease statuses. However, research on viral clearance from donor oocytes during embryo reconstruction remains limited. SCNT has previously been shown to reduce the transmission of Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, Bovine viral diarrhea virus, Porcine Circovirus type 2, and Porcine parvovirus. Still, it is lacking for other pathogens, including endogenous viruses. This project contains two preliminary studies investigating the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay detection of common swine viruses through the phases of producing parthenogenic and SCNT embryos. Exogenous pathogens detected in oocyte donor tissue or the oocyte maturation media were not detected in the produced embryos. Porcine endogenous retrovirus type C (PERVC) was not removed by parthenogenic embryo activation and was detected in 1 of the 2 tested SCNT embryos reconstructed using a PERVC-negative cell line. SCNT and parthenogenic embryo construction similarly reduced exogenous virus detection. SCNT embryo construction helped reduce endogenous virus detection. This project demonstrates the importance of screening embryos for endogenous viruses and shows the usefulness of parthenogenic embryos in future exogenous virus clearance studies. Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is a disease that affects ruminants globally, including camels, and causing significant financial losses. The epidemiology of BVD in camels in Egypt are not well understood. Thus, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of anti-BVD virus (BVDV) antibodies in camels and identify the potential variables associated with the infection. A total of 400 camel sera from three Egyptian governorates were examined using commercial ELISA kit. The total seroprevalence was 4.8% in examined camels and the BVDV seropositivity were more prevalent in camels from Giza governorate. The highest seropositivity was found in aged camels more than 8 years (OR = 8.62, 95%CI: 1.03–71.87), camels from herd size less than 30 (OR = 4.20, 95%CI: 0.89–19.78), previously aborted animals (OR = 5.98, 95%CI: 2.12–16.92), and in animals kept in contact with sheep or goats (OR = 7.48, 95%CI: 2.56–21.86). Consequently, the camels may be a significant source of BVD infection for other ruminant animals in the same herd due to their susceptibility to the viral infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
