In order to know the natural heritage, a phytogeographical study based on the phytosociological sigmatist method was conducted on forest vegetation in two understudied mountains in the Babors region (Northeastern Algeria). The floristic list obtained from 60 surveys carried out in forest and preforest formations of Zeen Oak (Quercus canariensis Willd.) and Cedar (Cedrus atlantica (Endl.) Carrière) as well as mountain grasslands (primary grasslands) includes 409 taxa belonging to 261 genera and 75 families of vascular plants. Analysis of the chorological spectrum shows not only the importance of Mediterranean element with 55.3% of the listed species, but above all the importance of the taxa which belong to the northern element (24.4%). The study area contains 68 (16.6%) Algerian endemics or sub-endemics. Analysis of the global biological spectrum showed the significant dominance of hemicryptophytes (46.2%) over other life-forms (7.8 to 22.8%). This area is an exceptional current refuge for non-Mediterranean and/ or endemic flora., Dans l’objectif de renforcer les connaissances sur le patrimoine naturel, une étude chorologique basée sur la méthode phytosociologique sigmatiste a été menée sur la végétation forestière dans deux massifs montagneux peu étudiés des Babors (Nord-Est algérien). La liste floristique obtenue à partir des 60 relevés effectués au niveau des formations forestières et préforestières de chêne zéen (Quercus canariensis Willd.), de cèdre (Cedrus atlantica (Endl.) Carrière) et des pelouses de montagne (pelouses primaires) comprend 409 taxons appartenant à 261 genres et 75 familles de plantes vasculaires. L’analyse du spectre chorologique brut montre non seulement l’importance de l’ensemble méditerranéen avec 55,3 % des espèces répertoriées, mais surtout celle des taxons qui relèvent de l’ensemble septentrional (24,4 %). Les massifs étudiés comptent 68 taxons (16,6 %) endémiques ou sub-endémiques algériens. L’analyse du spectre biologique global indique une dominance significative des hémicryptophytes (46,2 %) sur les autres formes de vie (7,8 à 22,8 %). The Algerian Nuthatch is an endemic and protected bird species in Algeria, and its different habitats are threatened by fires and others human actions; the species is therefore considered ‘Endangered’. A faecal samples analysis of the species’ nestlings was done to determine their diet. The nestling faecal samples were collected during the breedingseason of 2019 in the Tamentout deciduous forest in the region of Babors’ Kabylia (north-east Algeria). The faecalsamples analysis allowed us to count 686 individuals belonging to 39 different prey taxa. They belong to two arthropods classes and six orders. Insects (95.4%) were more dominant compared with spiders (4.96%). Beetles were most diverse, with 22 prey taxa and 293 individuals. Dermaptera (earwigs) were represented by only two prey taxa and 265 individuals, with the European Earwig Forficula auricularia recorded 253 times. A correlation was also found between the prey sizes and energy intake. Costello’s charts indicated five potential prey including Forficula auricularia, Oxythyrea funesta and Anthaxia sp. were the most consumed. The niche breadth calculation (0.017) revealed that the Algerian Nuthatch specialises on some prey items such as Forficula auricularia to feed its nestlings. The most prized prey species had sizes between 14.5 mm and 19 mm, Forficula auricularia has a size of 15 mm. Régime alimentaire des oisillons de la Sittelle kabyle Sitta ledanti, un oiseau endémique et menacé dans la région de la Kabylie des Babors (Nord-Est de l’Algérie) La Sittelle kabyle est une espèce d’oiseau endémique et protégée en Algérie. Ses différents habitats sont menacéspar les incendies et autres actions humaines; l’espèce est considérée comme ‘En danger’. Le régime alimentaire des oisillons de l’espèce a été déterminé par l’analyse des échantillons fécaux. Durant la saison de reproduction 2019, les échantillons fécaux des oisillons ont été collectés dans la forêt caducifoliée de Tamentout dans la région de la Kabylie des Babors (Nord-Est de l’Algérie). L’analyse des échantillons fécaux nous a permis de dénombrer 686 individus appartenant à 39 taxons proies différents. Ils appartiennent à deux classes d’arthropodes et à six ordres. Les insectes (95.4%) étaient plus dominants que les araignées (4.96%). Les coléoptères étaient plus diversifiés avec 22 taxons proies et 293 individus. Les Dermaptères étaient représentés par deux taxons proies et 265 individus où Forficula auricularia a été enregistré 253 fois. Une corrélation a également été trouvée entre la taille des proies et leurs apports énergétiques. Le graphe de Costello indiquait cinq proies potentielles, dont Forficula auricularia, Oxythyrea funesta et Anthaxia sp. étaient les plus consommés. Le calcul de la largeur de la niche (0.017) a révélé que la Sittelle kabyle, pour nourrir ses oisillons, se spécialise dans certaines proies telles que Forficula auricularia. Les espèces de proies les plus prisées avaient des tailles comprises entre 14.5 mm et 19 mm, Forficula auricularia a une taille de 15 mm.

This document is a summary of recent data about orchids from north-eastern Algeria. The areas concerned are the Kabylia in the broad sense and the historic Algerian Numidia with its adjacent mountains of Hodna and Aurès. They are very diverse territories in terms of geography (from the coast up to + 2000m altitude), bioclimate (from the semi-arid stage to the per-humid stage) and lithology (alluvium, limestone, dolomite, clays, shales, sandstones, granites, etc.).All the data published from 2005 have been synthesised and a lot of unpublished data observed from 2002 has been gathered thanks to around fifteen collaborators. Despite this, many sectors are still untouched for exploration and will need to be investigated in the future.Thus, 55 species have been illustrated and mapped. 8 others are known historically but have not yet been found. Finally, a last one has been reported in the past by mistake. The main synonyms are reminded. The taxonomic choice is following a similar recent work carried out on the Tunisian Orchids, with some rearrangements at the genus levela. A new nomenclatural combination has been created for the needs (Androrchis pauciflora subsp. laeta).A call for contributions is launched to all professional and amateurs Algerian botanists in order to continue the work through the whole Algerian Tell, Ce document est un travail de synthèse des données récentes concernant les Orchidées du nord-est de l’Algérie. Les régions concernées sont la Kabylie au sens large et la Numidie historique algérienne avec ses montagnes adjacentes du Hodna et de l’Aurès. Ce sont des territoires très divers sur le plan géographique (du littoral jusqu’à + de 2000m d’altitude), bioclimatique (de l’étage semi-aride à l’étage per-humide) et lithologique (alluvions, calcaires, dolomies, argiles, schistes, grès, granites, etc.). Toutes les données publiées à partir de 2005 ont été synthétisées et beaucoup de données inédites observées à partir de 2002 ont été rassemblées grâce à une quinzaine de collaborateurs. Malgré cela de nombreux secteurs sont encore vierges de prospection et devront être investigués à l’avenir.C’est donc 55 espèces qui ont été illustrées et cartographiées. 8 autres sont connues historiquement mais n’ont pas encore été retrouvées. Enfin une dernière a été signalée par le passé par erreur. Les principaux synonymes sont rappelés. Le choix taxonomique s’inspire d’un travail récent similaire effectué sur les Orchidées de Tunisie, à quelques réarrangement près au niveau des genres. Une combinaison nomenclaturale nouvelle a été créée pour l’occasion (Androrchis pauciflorasubsp. laeta).Un appel à contribution est lancé auprès de tous les botanistes professionnels et amateurs algériens afin de poursuivre le travail à l’échelle de tout le Tell algérien.

Cephalanthera rubra (L.) Rich (Orchidaceae) est une espèce eurasiatique tempérée et subméditerranéenne ; de l’Atlantique à la mer, sur substrats calcaires à un peu acides. Cette orchidée a été découverte au Babor, dans le nord-est de l’Algérie. Les notes écologiques sont également fournies. Cette découverte enrichira l’orchidoflore Algérienne en général et celle de la Kabylie des Babors en particulier., Cephalanthera rubra (L.) Rich (Orchidaceae) is a temperate, sub-Mediterranean Eurasian species; from the Atlantic to the sea, on slightly acidic limestone substrates.This orchid was discovered in Babor, in the northeast of Algeria. International audience; The orchids of Babors Kabylia (north eastern Algeria) remain understudied despite the importance of this key area for biodiversity and the recent interest of Algerian botanists into orchids family. They were inventoried during the spring period extending from 2011 to 2014. Twenty-seven taxa (species or subspecies) were recorded (plus two others in the literature) divided into nine genera (ten with literature). The genus Ophrys is the most diverse with eight species ; genus Orchis comes in second place with five species. Four of these species are mentioned for the first time in this phytogeographical area known as "Petite Kabylie". The study area harbour twelve (46%) species which are of high patrimonial value. Among them, five are rare, four fairly rare and one extremely rare species and in parallel six species are protected by the Algerian law, while three are Algero-Tunisian endemism. This relatively high orchid diversity is due in large part to the exceptional weather conditions, combined with a relative landscape originality in the mountainous areas of Kabylia of the Babors, fairly well preserved
