AbstractAnal fisting amongst gay men has been characterised as a risky form of sexual play, particularly for the bottoming (receptive) playmate. This view may be oversimplistic and fail to recognise how fist-bottoms ready themselves for fist-play through preparatory journeys of bottom training. This study explored how gay men who bottom in fist-play understand bottom training and how this understanding informs their personal sense of pleasure, risk, and safety. Unstructured individual interviews were conducted with 8 gay men who play as fist-bottoms. An inductive thematic analysis was conducted on the data, from which four main themes were developed: (1) training the body to play; (2) training for headspace; (3) training to understand pleasure; and (4) training by rules. Taken together, the findings highlight how fist-bottoms understand their bottom training as both a formative and transformative process that shapes their corporeal, psychological, erotic, and subcultural knowledge and skills to navigate play. Through bottom training, fist-bottoms explore and attune their understanding of what is safe and pleasurable, as well as riskier play. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper proposes existing calculation methods and new designs of high-performance solid raft foundations with symmetric and non-symmetric cutouts (non-contact areas in the middle) in the bottoms for lightweight tower-type structures such as wind turbines, tower cranes, telecommunications aerials and others that are capable of taking significant eccentric loads with observance of the edge pressures on the soil base. An example of calculation for various alternate designs of tower crane foundations has been given, which shows the advantages of using foundations with a cutout in the bottom, ultimately leading to a significant saving in concrete consumption (over 50%) for the foundation depending on the design load on the soil base and its bearing capacity. Changes in bottom and pore water oxygenation over glacial – interglacial cycles have influenced the ocean's capacity to store particulate organic carbon regardless of its source, either the marine primary productivity or the continent-to-ocean transfer of terrestrial organic matter. In the Philippine Sea, east off Taiwan, despite being currently oligotrophic, the enhanced East Asian Winter Monsoon during the Last Glacial Maximum and the Heinrich Stadial 1 might have altered the nutrient budget in surface waters by providing nutrients from the Eurasian loess dust and deepening the vertical mixing, bringing nutrients from the nutrient-enriched Kuroshio Current subsurface waters to the surface. During the deglaciation, previous studies also suggest an overall weakening of the marine biological pump during the Heinrich Stadial 1, and the rise in sea level is expected to have led to a global significant decline in the ability of continents to bury their particulate organic carbon in marine sediments. However, changes in the continent-ocean transfer of terrestrial organic matter and on the marine biological pump around Taiwan remain poorly constrained. In the present study, we have thus aimed to reconstruct bottom – pore water oxygenation, past marine primary productivity and continental-ocean transfer of terrestrial particulate organic carbon to the ocean since the end of the Last Glacial Maximum, in order to better constrain the ability of marine sediments to capture atmospheric carbon over the past 20,000 years. To this end, sediment core MD18-3523 has been recovered from a levee of Hoping Canyon, north-east of Taiwan, in the Ryukyu forearc basin. The reconstructions were made possible by the application of multivariate statistics and transfer functions on benthic foraminiferal assemblages, by the measurement of total organic carbon concentration and by the investigation of chemical element ratios obtained from X-ray fluorescence (XRF).We observed a transition across the Bølling–Allerød and the Younger Dryas from suboxic-dysoxic bottom – pore waters during Heinrich Stadial 1 to oxic-suboxic during the Holocene, and revealed an increase in marine primary productivity during Heinrich Stadial 1 in all probability due to intensified East Asian Winter Monsoon winds. We have also identified periods of enhanced terrestrial particulate organic carbon transfer to the ocean driven by short-lived extreme events, most likely typhoons, during the Bølling–Allerød, at the beginning of the Early Holocene and the end of the Late Holocene, when the typhoon dynamics affecting Taiwan were intensified. Overall, these findings suggest an enhanced marine biological pump during the Heinrich Stadial 1 and an efficient carbon turbidity pump during the Bølling–Allerød, the Early and Late Holocene, contrasting with the western coast of Taiwan.

GENDER - Abstract
In this article we analyzed the translations into English of the categories of bottoms and tops present in two works by Reinaldo Arenas: Before Night Falls, translated by Dolores Koch, and The Color of Summer, by Andrew Hurley. To this end, we use the translation techniques proposed by Lucía Molina and Amparo Hurtado Albir (2002), and the translation methods proposed by Marti Ferriol (2006), following the new classification by Ericka Vargas Castro (2022). This is discussed in light of a theoretical framework that includes gender, with concepts as Judith Butler's (2009) performativity and precarity, or Pierre Bourdieu's (1998) paradox of the doxa, as well as the Cuban sociopolitical perspective. It is concluded that three techniques are the most used: the literal translation, the established equivalent, and the discursive creation. Finally, this discussion concerning gender, political regime, and translation might lead to the proposal of consistent translations of sex/gender designations in the work by Arenas. ntroduction. The article presents the results of the study of irregular bottom river forms and foundations of structures, as well as coastal forms under the action of surface channel currents. It is assumed that the development of channels occurs due to the action of natural hydromorphodynamic river processes during the long stages of rivers existence formed in accordance with topographic, geological and hydrometeorological conditions. Problem Statement. Flow velocities are determined by a system of equations for the kinematics of channel flows and sediment transport, which is built on the basis of averaging the depth of flow. Purpose. Application of the developed methods of solving problems in the spatial dimension for the study of turbulent effects in the interaction with structural elements. The development of methods for applying the spatial model will be carried out at the next stage. Methods of research. Differential equations describing a nonstationary depth-averaged flow are solved using the FST2DH numerical model, which implements the finite element method. The steps typically performed when using FST2DH to study surface water flow and sediment transportation require the general necessary geographic information systems to build a network and assign boundary conditions. The equations for calculating channel erosion and erosion of bridge piers in bound soils are also considered, where it is shown that erosion depends more on soil properties than for the case of incoherent sediments, but can reach the same erosion depths with longer multi-flood calculations hydrographs. Results. Calculations of the flow kinematics of the calculated floodplain on the example of crossing the floodplain along the highway showed that the presence of a large angle of the overpass to the flood flow leads to additional conditions for increasing local erosion of supports in the form of solid rectangular columns. Significant local erosion is observed in the area of supports near the channel part. Conclusion.

The present paper reports the first record of the narrowbar reefgoby, Priolepis profunda (Weber, 1909) from the Indian coast. Two specimens (33.5 and 38.5 mm of TL), were caught during a demersal trawling survey conducted in the area between 9°40.7′N, 76°05.8′E and 9°45.1′N, 76°03.9′E at 33 m in June 2017. The specimens were collected from a coral rock which entered in the trawl net during the demersal resources survey. The morphological descriptions of the specimens collected are compared with those of existing records.

The study area is located at the Iraqi coastal side, north of the Arabian Gulf (where the Al-Faw Grand Port is constructed). Marine geophysical surveys using a multi-beam echosounder, sub-bottom profiler, and side-scan sonar were conducted. The objectives were to map the bathymetry of the seafloor and the nature and thickness of the underlying layers of the bottom to 40-m depth and validate the port for sea navigation and reception of ships. The side-scan sonar data identified wrecks related to vessels or scouring caused by fishing activities. In this technique, four profiles (P1, P2, P3, and P4) were surveyed using a sub-bottom profiler to obtain additional detailed information about the area between these profiles with the assistance of borehole data, which was used for drilling in Khor Abdullah. Two types of anomalies (features) were identified in these clips (profiles). The first anomaly can be explained as an ancient river course buried under the sediments of the bottom during transgression and regression periods composed of marine sediments and remains of organisms. The first anomaly identified in these profiles of sub-bottom data represents the subsidence that occurred on the eastern breakwater. The closest interpretation is the exits of an old channel. The second feature observed in P4 (extends from 1.5 to 2 km) may be caused by Early Cambrian intruded salt diapirs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, the temperature field and heat transfer stress mathematical model of the unidirectional solidification ingot of the traditional water-cooled chassis and the improved water-cooled chassis are established, and the numerical simulation calculation of 45 tons unidirectional solidification ingot is carried out by using the finite element simulation analysis method. The results show that adding proper forced cooling conditions to the bottom of ingot is beneficial to the balanced advance of the solidification front of molten steel. The improvement of the bottom forced cooling scheme obviously shortens the solidification time of the ingot. The water cooling at the bottom of the ingot is adapted to the air gap distribution to achieve uniform air gap distribution. The ingot solidifies evenly in the longitudinal direction to avoid bottom warpage.

The heat curing process using an electric oven has been generally applied for curing geopolymer material as it accelerates strength development. However, a microwave curing process is an alternative approach to obtain a shorter heat curing process. This paper focuses on the strength development and required curing duration of a cellular lightweight geopolymer mortar using a microwave-assisted curing process. Other curing approaches, namely (i) room curing process, (ii) typical oven curing process, and (iii) microwave curing process, were also comparatively examined. Bottom ash was used as light-fine aggregate to replace sand by 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The results revealed that replacing 25% of the sand with bottom ash provided the optimal strength and low density for all mixtures. A 28-day age strength of 12.27 MPa was achieved by the microwave-assisted curing process, while a strength of 5.77 MPa was achieved by the typical oven curing process. The microwave-assisted curing process could significantly improve the early strength development and reduce both the overall curing period and energy consumption by around 75% compared to a typical oven curing process. This approach could be applied as an alternative geopolymer synthesis for the development of environmental-friendly construction material for lightweight applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This short paper presents an innovation on the use of a bottom longline with only a single crew on a fishing boat in the Aegean Sea. The mainline was 0.80 mm in diameter and 75 m in length, with branch lines of 0.45 mm in diameter and 70 cm in length. Distance between two adjacent branch lines was 7 m. The total duration of the operation, excluding soak time, was 35 minutes for a total of 40 hooks. Although this small prototype seems to succeed, larger versions may cause operational difficulties. Therefore, we suggest that further handling techniques should be developed in the future for challenging tasks such as baiting and solo using.

Today a sufficient number of analytical methods for determining extraction indicators for geotechnologies that produce broken ore has been developed. At the same time, they are characterized by certain difficulties, mainly due to the restriction in more fully taking into account the structural (geometrical) complexity of the production horizon and loading points. Therefore, the numerical simulation of the outflow of bulk material by discrete element method is becoming increasingly important to improve the reliability and accuracy of the results of determining of the loss and dilution of ore during production. The results of mathematical modeling of areal ore production using self-propelled machines depending on the parameters of the loading point are given in relation to the development of an extensive tubular deposit by a development system with a collapse taking into account the actual design features of the block bottom. Evaluation of indicators of the completeness and quality of extraction of mineral reserves carried out by comparing the mass of released ore and rock. The optimum ratio of the substage height to the distance between the delivery drifts is established at which the best extraction rates are ensured. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The existing methods of underground mining of ores in world practice are characterized by the maximum simplification of the preparation and cleansing schemes, the desire for high intensification of mining operations. However, the high irregularity of the bottom of the block, as well as the long period of its operation, especially with systems with collapse and areal ore production, when mining steep extensive heavy-duty deposits, impose certain restrictions on the design and parameters of delivery and cutting horizons. In this connection, research in the field of substantiation of the structures and parameters of the bottoms of the blocks are very popular and relevant, allowing to determine and recommend optimal technical solutions at the stages of mining planning. In the article, the stability of the bottom of the block with the release of ore through a delivery point with two loading points is justified on the methods of graphic design and numerical modeling of the stress-strain state of the rock mass. Considerable attention is paid to the geomechanical substantiation of the stability of the structural elements of the development systems and the choice of the type and parameters of the mine fastening. Evaluation of gap formation at the interfaces of a two-step self-etching adhesive with/without pre-etching was performed using sweptsource optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). Round cavities were prepared in bovine incisors at the middle (MC) and cervical (CC) thirds of the crown and the cervical third of the root (CR). Clearfil SE bond was directly applied to one group (SE) and another (PA) was pretreated with K-etchant gel. Following restoration by flowable composite resin, the teeth were thermally challenged and stored for 2 months. Interfacial gaps observed in the cross-sectional OCT images were analyzed and the bottom cavities exhibited increased gaps compared to the margin and dentin-enamel junction (DEJ). The CR site had a larger gap than at MC and CC in the SE group. DEJ separation at the MC was significantly smaller than that at CC in both groups. Therefore, gap formation depends on the cavity region, location, and bonding protocol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

International audience; X-ray fluorescence, grain-size and oxygen and carbon stable isotope measurements of a 33 m long piston core, recovered from the Pen Duick drift located at the foot of the prominent Pen Duick Escarpment (Atlantic Moroccan margin), are combined to decipher past oceanographic conditions. The data indicate that, similar to the northern Gulf of Cádiz, the Azores Front exerts a major control on the palaeoclimatology of the region. Contrasting the northern Gulf of Cádiz, where Mediterranean Outflow Water is the main water mass at similar water depths, the palaeoceanography of the studied area is mostly influenced by the amount of Antarctic Intermediate Water advected from the south. The density contrast between the Antarctic Intermediate Water and the overlying North Atlantic Central Water determined the strength of the prevailing internal tides and corresponding high current speeds, which drastically impacted the sedimentary record. The most notable impact is the presence of a 7.8 kyr condensed section (30.5–22.7 ka bp). The formation of the Pen Duick sediment drift was not just controlled by the strength of the bottom currents and the intensity of the internal tides, but also by the amount of (aeolian) sediment supplied to the region. Although variable, drift-growth phases seem to mainly occur during colder periods of the last glacial, that is Heinrich and Dansgaard-Oeschger events during Marine Isotope Stage 3 and late Marine Isotope Stage 2. These periods, characterised by increased aeolian dust supply and higher bottom currents, coincide with a phase of prolific cold-water coral growth and enhanced coral mound formation as recorded in numerous cores obtained from the southern Gulf of Cádiz. This implies that both records (on and off mound cores) are pivotal to provide the complete picture of the palaeoclimatic and palaeoceanographic conditions in the region.

The European physical journal / C 83(5), 438 (2023). doi:10.1140/epjc/s10052-023-11427-9, This paper presents a measurement of b-jet production in Pb+Pb and pp collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_\text {NN}}}=5.02$ TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurement uses 260 $\text {pb}^{-1}$ of pp collisions collected in 2017 and 1.4 $\text {nb}^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collisions collected in 2018. In both collision systems, jets are reconstructed via the anti-$k_{t}$ algorithm. The b-jets are identified from a sample of jets containing muons from the semileptonic decay of b-quarks using template fits of the muon momentum relative to the jet axis. In pp collisions, b-jets are reconstructed for radius parameters $R= 0.2$ and $R= 0.4$, and only $R= 0.2$ jets are used in Pb+Pb collisions. For comparison, inclusive $R= 0.2$ jets are also measured using 1.7 $\text {nb}^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collisions collected in 2018 and the same pp collision data as the b-jet measurement. The nuclear modification factor, $R_\text {AA}$, is calculated for both b-jets and inclusive jets with $R= 0.2$ over the transverse momentum range of 80–290 GeV. The nuclear modification factor for b-jets decreases from peripheral to central collisions. The ratio of the b-jet $R_\text {AA}$ to inclusive jet $R_\text {AA}$ is also presented and suggests that the $R_\text {AA}$ for b-jets is larger than that for inclusive jets in central Pb+Pb collisions. The measurements are compared with theoretical calculations and suggest a role for mass and colour-charge effects in partonic energy loss in heavy-ion collisions., Published by Springer, Heidelberg

Bareback sex, the deliberate omission of condoms during anal intercourse between men, is a practice that has faced harsh criticism from social commentators and academics alike. Bareback sex has been routinely stigmatized by some researchers, but others contend that this 'deviant' practice serves an important function among gay men.1 In this essay, we explore the discourse surrounding bareback sex from the initial monolithic view of this sexual practice as 'dangerous' and 'destructive' to the more multifaceted view of bareback sex as a form of communal bonding and a challenge to gay assimilation and homonormativity. Various theories on barebacking as well as the controversial film text Bottom, a pornographic documentary on the barebacking subculture's ritualized sexual endeavours, are used to explore this position. Particular focus is paid to the spoken word among barebackers, namely, their local subcultural vernacular, which highlights the oft-overlooked intersection between homosocial and homosexual. The pollution of aquatic systems by plastic particles smaller than 5 mm – microplastics – is real and very debated by the scientific community, political bodies, and general society. The presence of microplastics can be monitored in different matrices such as sediment, water and biota. Samples from oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, estuarine areas and polar areas have been analysed. Several studies have been carried out worldwide over the years, where the physical-chemical characteristics of microplastics is included. However, most of these studies cannot be compared since the uncertainty associated with results is not reported. The measurement uncertainty expresses the quality of a quantification, allowing its objective interpretation and to evaluate its fitness for purpose. The evaluation of the measurement uncertainty consists of a statistical and metrological treatment of the measurement process, involving the quantification and combination of the uncertainty sources from random and systematic effects. This work presents the first bottom-up evaluation of the uncertainty of microplastics contamination quantification in sediments applied to the monitoring of four Portuguese inland waters [1]. Sediment samples are first subjected to a proper pretreatment that involves the digestion of the sediment fraction lower than 5 mm, a density separation, a visual analysis, and a chemical identification by infrared spectroscopy (micro-FTIR). The evaluation of the measurement uncertainty involved using, among others, the Poisson-Lognormal distribution to model the particles counting component. The Monte Carlo Method was used to combine the uncertainty components identified. Results demonstrated the ubiquitous presence of microplastics in all studied inland waters [2], reaching up to 969 microplastics per kg-1 associated with an uncertainty interval of [361; 2932] kg-1, where several samples had metrological different contamination for 99% confidence level. This work represents a relevant contribution to improving the quality of the analyses of microplastics in environmental samples and to achievable harmonization of analytical protocols. This paper explores how cross-country differences in environmental regulatory stringency among member states of the world's largest multinational cap-and-trade system, the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS), influenced the FDI location choice of listed multinationals (MNEs) regulated by the environmental policy. After controlling for other country characteristics driving FDI location choice, we find that the likelihood of EU ETS-covered MNEs locating new FDI projects in less environmentally stringent member states strongly depends on firm- and industry-specific environmental characteristics during the system's first two phases. Our results are robust to different measures of environmental stringency and provide evidence for the existence of an intra-regional pollution haven effect (PHE). This investment behavior by MNEs is, moreover, only found in the industries least compensated for the environmental costs induced by the policy. This suggests that the EU inadvertently promoted an intra-regional PHE not only by allowing cross-country variation in environmental stringency but also by overly focusing on and compensating for external carbon leakage risk. Our conclusions have major implications for countries and regions currently establishing or implementing an emissions trading system. ispartof: Journal Of Environmental Management vol:23 ispartof: location:England status: published

- Abstract
Codesign with resource-constrained people living in developing countries is crucial for sustained adoption and use of designed solutions. Several studies have investigated codesign with resource-constrained people. It is, therefore, important to understand what has been investigated and learnt so far as well as to plan for further scholarly exploration of this field. To address this, I applied a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to understand main sources, definitions, and theoretical perspectives regarding codesign with resource-constrained people. The SLR also aimed to understand inputs and outputs of codesign as well as factors influencing the codesign process. The findings portray a multifaceted picture regarding these aspects of codesign. I discuss implications of review findings for the practice of codesigning solutions with resource-constrained people, identify concerns that researchers should have about this field, and offer suggestions for future research in this field of codesign., open access

BACKGROUND: This dataset contains information on specimens of Southern Ocean Pycnogonida (Arthropoda), that were collected from ten different research cruises, spanning 13 years. The individual aims and objectives of each cruise can be found in their cruise reports. The specimens have been collated into a single dataset, forming the basis of J. Maxwell's PhD. The dataset will be used to investigate the community structure of Antarctic pycnogonids and the factors which influence its composition. This dataset is published by SCAR-AntOBIS under the licence CC-BY 4.0. Please follow the guidelines from the SCAR and IPY Data Policies (https://www.scar.org/excom-meetings/xxxi-scar-delegates-2010-buenos-aires-argentina/4563-scar-xxxi-ip04b-scar-data-policy/file/) when using the data. If you have any questions regarding this dataset, please do not hesitate to contact us via the contact information provided in the metadata or via data-biodiversity-aq@naturalsciences.be. NEW INFORMATION: This dataset adds vital occurrence and abundance data for pycnogonids from 10 previously unexamined research cruises from the Weddell Sea, Antarctic Penisula and the islands of the Scotia Arc. It includes the first pycnogonid data from the Prince Gustav Channel. The 197 sampling stations within this dataset represent an 11% increase in the number of stations where pycnogonids have been recorded in the Southern Ocean, southern South America and New Zealand waters and an 18% increase for above 60 degrees latitude. Presence data for any observed epifauna are also included. ispartof: BIODIVERSITY DATA JOURNAL vol:10 ispartof: location:Bulgaria status: published

During the lastyears, considerable resources have been invested in orderto promote policiesoffinancial inclusion in Brazil, especially to include the ones marginalized from the traditional banking system. Therefore, it is relevant to understand how to assess the impact of these policies on the target public benefited. For that, this article aims to discuss and present the application of a methodology to develop indicators and assessing the impact on microfinance policies, based on a methodological approach called bottom-up. This approach reflects a participatory and proactive process, empowering the actors involved in the process of formulating indicators, and considers, in a general way, the specific situation in the loealities assessed. The study's applieation was eondueted with groups involved with actions and impaet of microfinance activities, and enabled the development of a framework of relevant indicators.

Phase-change electrical probe memory has recently attained considerable attention owing to its profound potential for next-generation mass and archival storage devices. To encourage more talented researchers to enter this field and thereby advance this technology, this paper first introduces approaches to induce the phase transformation of chalcogenide alloy by probe tip, considered as the root of phase-change electrical probe memory. Subsequently the design rule of an optimized architecture of phase-change electrical probe memory is proposed based on a previously developed electrothermal and phase kinetic model, followed by a summary of the state-of-the-art phase-change electrical probe memory and an outlook for its future prospects.
