BACKGROUND Cryptococcosis is the most common mycosis of the central nervous system. It may develop in immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients, the latter representing most cases. The most common presentation of the disease is meningitis, whereas intra-axial lesions in the form of cryptococcoma are less frequent with a greater tendency to present in immunocompetent patients. The presentation of pituitary cryptococcoma is exceptional. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there is only one case published in the medical literature. OBSERVATIONS The authors present the case of a 30-year-old male without a relevant medical history. He was referred to our center with a pituitary mass on magnetic resonance imaging and panhypopituitarism. The patient underwent endonasal endoscopic transsphenoidal tumor resection, and a histopathological diagnosis of pituitary cryptococcoma was made. Medical management included fluconazole and intravenous amphotericin. LESSONS This case underscores the neurosurgical and medical management of an exceptional clinical presentation of pituitary cryptococcoma in an immunocompetent patient. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there is only one case published in the medical literature. This case provides an invaluable review of the clinical, imaging, and therapeutic considerations regarding this exceptional clinical entity.

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo determinar la influencia la gestión de tutoría para el liderazgo personal y propósito de vida en tiempos de COVID 19 de estudiantes de educación universitaria. La investigación por su naturaleza corresponde al enfoque de investigación cuantitativa, de diseño con pre prueba - pos prueba con grupos experimentales y grupos de control; se ha experimentado el programa tutorial; para observar el comportamiento de la variable dependiente mediante la aplicación de una Escala de Apreciación Descriptiva o EAD de chequeo. Los resultados dan cuenta de diferencias significativas en las medidas de tendencia central del grupo experimental y el grupo control. Se concluye que la gestión de tutoría influye positivamente para el liderazgo personal y propósito de vida en tiempos de COVID 19 de estudiantes de educación universitaria.

A sediment core, obtained from an erosion pothole, was studied. 11 samples (22 cm depth) were obtained. The 210Pb dating indicated that, in general, the pothole was gradually filled in the last 33-35 years. Using trace metals as indicators (Cu, Pb and V) it was possible to estimate their natural background (61±27mgCu·kg-1, 72±45 mgPb·kg-1 and 19±4 mgV·kg-1). After calculating the normalized enrichment factor (NEF), the core showed indexes indicative of possible-moderate contamination for Cu and Pb (average contents 141±45 mgCu·kg-1 and 141±46 mgPb·kg-1), particularly in a layer (1993-2009) that seems to be a mixture of sediments of different ages, coinciding in time with human interventions in the local environment. Since the 1980s, research into entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in Latin America has produced many remarkable discoveries. In fact, 16 out of the 117 recognized species of EPNs have been recovered and described in the subcontinent, with many more endemic species and/or strains remaining to be discovered and identified. In addition, from an applied perspective, numerous technological innovations have been accomplished in relation to their implementation in biocontrol. EPNs have been evaluated against over 170 species of agricultural and urban insects, mites, and plant-parasitic nematodes under laboratory and field conditions. While much success has been recorded, many accomplishments remain obscure, due to their publication in non-English journals, thesis dissertations, conference proceedings, and other non-readily available sources. The present review provides a brief history of EPNs in Latin America, including current findings and future perspectives.

2 pages.-- XV International Estuarine Biogeochemistry Symposium, Vigo, June 04-05 2019, Trace metals have a great ecological and environmental significance due to their toxicity and accumulative behavior. Most of them have increased their concentration due to human activities, impacting in their biogeochemical cycles and generating a high pressure, particularly in coastal environments. San Simon Bay is a shallow embayment located in the innermost zone of the Ría of Vigo (NW Spain). The bay supports mariculture activities of great economic importance hence, the presence of potentially toxic elements like Cd requires some vigilance. Their mobility, biological availability and potential toxicity is dependent on their chemical forms and partitioning within sediments. A gravity core (230 cm depth) was retrieved in San Simon Bay and cut into 10-cm (n = 23). Sequential extraction was performed according to the method of Campanella, et al. (1995), 5 fractions were obtained: (F1) Cd present in ion-exchange form and bound to carbonates, (F2) Cd in the reductive phase bound to manganese-iron oxides, (F3) Cd weakly bound to organic matter, (F4) Cd strongly bound to organic matter, (F5) Cd bound to sulfides. The results showed that Cd concentrations ranged from 0.1 to 2.1 mg kg-1. Cadmium exhibited considerable presence in the F1 (i.e. exchangeable and bound to carbonates) and F4 (i.e. strongly bound to organic matter) fractions. More than 75% of the total Cd was found in F1 fraction above 100 cm depth, involving a potential risk of contamination in the San Simon Bay. Moreover, Cd showed a high susceptibility to complexation with organic matter compounds, especially below 100 cm where F4 fraction reached more than 55% Cd total at some depths. Este artigo tem como objetivo mensurar o impacto do aumento da demanda final da indústria de base florestal. Como instrumento de análise utiliza-se a matriz de contabilidade social do Estado do Paraná de 1998. Foi necessário calcular o multiplicares da matriz. Os efeitos de uma injeção nas variáveis exógenas sobre os segmentos de Madeira e Mobiliário e de Papel e Papelão resultaram em choques de demanda mais intensos dentro do próprio setor. Observa-se que o ramo de Madeira e Mobiliário tem maiores ligações com as atividades relativas ao setor terciário; já o segmento de Papel e Papelão, com atividades que necessitam embalagem. Conclui-se que, apesar da agregação das atividades econômicas da matriz de contabilidade social paranaense, foi possível identificar os principais impactos decorrentes do aumento da demanda final.The present article aims at measuring the final demand impact on the forest-based industry by using the 1998 State of Paraná social accounting matrix as the analysis tool. We also had to calculate the matrix multipliers. The increased effects of exogenous activity on the Wood/Furniture and Paper/Pulp activities brought a more intense demand shock to that sector. We noticed that the Wood and Furniture activity is mostly connected with the tertiary sector activities, while the Paper and Pulp activity is mostly connected with activities that need packing. Finally, we could identify the main impacts originated by an increased final demand in spite of the reduction in the number of Paraná Social Accounting Matrix economic activities.

International audience; Due to the role of soluble fibre (SF) on the digestive physiology and gut health of post-weaning rabbits and to the lack of reference methods for SF determination, in the framework of the harmonization activity on rabbit science methodologies carried out by EGRAN (European Group on Rabbit Nutrition), a collaborative study was achieved on the determination of total dietary fibre (TDF), aNDF corrected for protein and ash (aNDFcorr) and SF calculated as the difference between TDF and aNDFcorr. Five EGRAN laboratories analysed nine samples: four compound diets and five raw materials (alfalfa meal, wheat bran, grape marc, sunflower meal, sugarbeet pulp) with different levels of fibre fractions and SF. Each sample was analysed 3 runs for TDF and aNDFcorr. TDF was analysed according to the AOAC Method 991.43 using the kit and the procedure of Megazyme®. Animal welfare is a major concern in livestock production. The impact of housing conditions on animal well-being is under study in several species such as chickens, laying hens, or pigs and, some European Directives have been developed in order to protect animal welfare. In these Directives aspects related to housing conditions have been regulated. Several attempts have been done to propose a European Directive for rabbit farming in terms of welfare protection, but any agreement have been reached for now. One of the main hot spots is related to cages design. Strong efforts are being made nowadays in order to reach a compromise to define cages characteristics which really benefit rabbits’ welfare. In this context, the main aim of this work is to develop a critical review about rabbit does space needs in relation to cages design. It becomes necessary to determine the behavioural needs of rabbits in terms of welfare, so that the space requirements can be known. This might lead to define appropriate housing conditions, although the needs of the animal can change according to age, learning, diurnal rhythm, season and genetic relations. In general, regarding the height of the cages (as well as width), few papers have been found and a European Food Safety Authorities’ report recognises, that in the absence of scientific evidence concerning these needs of rabbits, it may be important for growing rabbits to be able to sit and stand with ears erect, as well as rear up occasionally. Regarding the use of platforms, enriching the cage with raised platforms aims at satisfying the doe’s need for isolation from the litter, rather than stimulating exercise. Nevertheless, the use of platforms may cause hygiene problems which have to be solved. Therefore, elevated platforms might be considered as environmental enrichment elements and not as structural needs. The patent general lack of information in the topic must be considered when new housing conditions are being proposed, and only those aspects which could lead to real improvement of rabbit’s welfare have to be taken into account. The authors propose a cage size for lactating does of 45×75×38 cm (height, length and width) with a minimum surface of 3,500 cm2 (nest-box not included).

The present work main objective was to map the cellulose and paper sectors’ interrelation in the State of Parana, in 1995, considering that these industries interact as product suppliers or buyers in an interdependent production chain. The main results indicate an arrangement having a strong interrelation between the “cellulose and paste” products and the paper and artifact and editorial and graphic products. On the other hand, concerning external purchases we can notice a significant relation between “paper and artifact” products and chemical products, machine and equipment and services; and concerning external selling “paper and artifact” products has a significant relation with food, beverage, non-metallic mineral and textile products. O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi mapear as inter-relações do arranjo de celulose e papel no Estado do Paraná em 1995, considerando que essas indústrias interagem como fornecedoras e compradoras de produtos numa cadeia de produção interdependente. Os principais resultados indicam um arranjo com fortes inter relações entre os produtos celulose e pastas e os produtos papel e artefatos e editorial e gráfica. Por outro lado, verificam-se significativas relações dos produtos papel e artefatos, nas compras externas, com produtos químicos, máquinas e equipamentos e serviços; e nas vendas externas com produtos alimentares, bebidas, minerais não-metálicos e têxtil.
