We bring together a collection of papers that were presented at the inaugural event of the Asia-Europe Energy Policy Research Network (AEEPRN), held at Singapore in May 2012. The idea for creating AEEPRN was in response to the growing importance of energy in Asia and Europe's relations and to our shared belief that energy will become a more significant aspect of these relations over the forthcoming years and decades. The papers presented here cover the following themes: wind energy, biofuels, natural gas and gas pipelines, exergy and manufacturing, green energy co-operation, coal, unconventional gas and solar energy. A calendar of events related to chemistry and other topics in 2013 is presented, including the World Soybean Research Conference in Durban, South Africa in February, the Medical Fair India event in March, and the World Biofuels Markets event in March.

Discussions on climate change covered various issues which include the role of biofuels and nuclear energy, innovations and partnerships and mobilizing political will among leaders. It also discussed various issues in terms of growth and stability including global innovations.

Information about several topics discussed during the 2006 International Association of Agricultural Economics (IAAE) Conferences which was held in China is presented. The emphasis is placed on the technical and economic merits of bio-fuels as replacement for fossil fuels. Hans Elmhirst emphasized the positive payoff to encouraging decentralized local-government-based approaches to rural development. The organization also emphasized on working to improve the lot of farm families.

The author discusses the "26th New Phytologist Symposium - Bioenergy Trees" held in Nancy, France in May 2011, which connected a wide array of expertise for potential strategy on the large scale use of forest biomass. He says that the symposium centers on the creation of novel biomass from plant genotypes by genetic modification or selection. Moreover, biological issues including ectopic expression of Castanea RAV1 gene, cell wall lignification, and feedstock processing costs are mentioned.

Information regarding the 26th New Phytologist Symposium held May 17-19, 2011 in the Institut National de la Receherché Agronomique (INRA) in Nancy France is presented. Topics include bionenergy derived from woody biomass, lignocellulosic bionenergy, and use of genomics for optimization of biomass from trees. It adds that the symposium also cover renewable and environmentally sustainable production of energy.

Information about several features of the symposium on world food crisis is presented. The panel of the symposium delineated the dimensions of the 2007-2008 world food crisis which is defined in terms of a sharp increase in the international prices of food products. The panel reinterpreted the causes of the 2007-2008 price rises including the impact of the rising price of oil on farming cost, supply impact of the diversion of food crops to biofuel and the rising demand for meat.

Information about the workshop "Biotechnology of Bioenergy Plants" held November 16-17, 2009 in Knoxville, Tennessee is presented. It aims to review the current advances in biological research on bioenergy plants. It discusses future research directions of relevant bioenergy technologies. It also identifies joint research/education programs in plant biotechnology.

Information about several papers discussed at the 2007 mid-Atlantic biotechnology conference sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), Virginia Biotech Association (VaBIO) and the Tech Council of Maryland (MdBio) in the U.S. is presented. Topics include the importance of biofuels, stem cells and medical devices in the international market.

The article offers information on several congresses and conventions on environmental protection including "Bioenergy World Europe 2008," in Verona, Italy on February 7 to 10, 2008, "GLOBE 2008," in Vancouver, Canada on March 12-14, 2008 and "Ninth International Symposium on Environmental Geotechnology and Sustainable Development," in Hong Kong on June 1-4, 2008.

A calendar of 2016 events on chemical engineering is presented including the Global Congress on Process Safety in Houston, Texas from April 10-14, the AchenAsia event in Beijing, China from May 9-12, and the World Bioenergy Congress and Exposition in Rome, Italy from June 13-14.

The authors present information on the 2014 edition of the Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Savings and Pollution Prevention or PRES 2014 dedicated to sustainable development with an emphasis on sustainable biofuel production and use. Topics covered by the papers presented at PRES 2014 include green energy and product productions, advances in carbon capturing and sustainability assessment in decision making.

The article describes the participation of Canadian Institute of Forestry chief executive officer (CEO) John Pineau in the World Bioenergy Conference held in Jönköping, Sweden on June 3 to 5, 2014. Topics discussed include his presentations on sustainable forestry practices in the "Canada-Nordic Bioeconomy Dialogue," biomass energy systems, and ecosystem-based management and natural disturbance emulation in the "How can we Safeguard a Sustainable Forestry for Bioenergy?" workshop.

The article presents information on the "The Solar to Fuels and Back Again Symposium" held on October 12, 2009, at Imperial College London, England. The participants at the symposium discussed issues such as artificial photosynthesis and production of sustainable fuels. There was general consensus that artificial photosynthesis could be an efficient solution for alleviating the adverse effects of burning fossil fuels.

Information about the topics discussed during the two day international conference on "Powering Africa: the Biofuels Options" in Africa is presented. It featured the talk by Salvador Namburete, Energy Minister of Mozambique, who claimed that Africa has the best climatic conditions to grow the crops. It also highlighted the support of Namburete to the development of biofuel production through public and private partnerships.
