The paper is focused on the revolutionary changes in librarianship and the need for strategic planning for sustainable transformation of academic libraries. The narrative content analysis was adopted with extensive literature review. Explanations on basic concepts relating to the subject matter such as change, types of changes, strategic planning, and purpose of strategic planning, strategic planning process, and strategic management process were articulated. The paper further explores strategic planning in the context of librarianship; the rationalization for strategic planning in academic libraries; justification for effective adaptation to changes in academic libraries as well as identification of specific dimension of revolutionary changes in academic libraries; the key points for sustainable strategic planning were outlined.

The paper focused on the role of library and information professionals in the provision of financial literacy in developing countries. The highlights of the paper are explanation of financial literacy as a concept, necessity for financial literacy in a depressed economy, role of libraries in the provision of financial literacy in developing countries. The strategies that can be adopted for effective provision of financial literacy were identified which include collaboration with financial institutions; establishing synergy between library and information professionals and successful entrepreneurs, exploring grass root options; collaboration with non-governmental agencies and use of social media platforms. The challenges acknowledged include inadequate knowledge of the workings of the financial system, inadequate knowledge of the financial information needs of patrons and members of the host communities. The study recommends introduction of financial management courses to library science education curriculum, requesting for adequate financial support amongst others.

Purpose: The study is on corporate social responsibility activities for public libraries engagement towards the actualization of sustainable development goals (SDGs): a survey of public libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach: The survey design was adopted. Data were gathered through questionnaire. Population of study comprised of librarians working in the public libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. A total of 77 questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings: The corporate social responsibilities that public libraries should participate in order to end poverty in present-day society include dissemination of timely agricultural information, business information, economic information services that are target-specific in different areas; provision of relevant information source and conducive environment for research to end hunger and achieved food security; partnership with health workers, stakeholders in the health sector and media houses to ensure optimal dissemination of health information to rural dwellers and promoting equitable quality education are the corporate social responsibility activities that public libraries should participate to contribute to actualization of sustainable development goals. Practical Implication: Library management should take pragmatic steps towards ensuring that there is intensive awareness campaign on various programmes and initiatives that libraries can participate towards contributing to actualization of sustainable development goals. Originality/value: This paper is of value to librarianship as a profession, it should provoke a new line of discourse in library professional or association meetings.

This paper focused on the challenges to full implementation of open distance and flexible learning in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The conceptual clarification of distance education, open distance learning was presented; the justifications for ODFL programmes in developing countries were highlighted. The expected role of libraries towards the sustainability of ODFL programmes include provision of technology-based information services, organization and provision of online information resources, provision of digital information literacy; the challenges to implementation of ODFL programmes in tertiary institutions in developing countries such as dearth of well-defined national distance education policies, dearth of trained cadre of professionals to support the implementation of distance education; technological constraints, dearth of collaborative partners, low level of funding in Nigerian institution and erratic power supply were well articulated. Strategies like adequate funding, recruitment of quality staff, engaging in sustainable collaborative effort, re-training of librarians and compliance with quality assurance principles.

Communication is an integral component of human existence. This discourse focused on the strategies for effective communication in information services delivery for sustainable development in post Covid-19 pandemic era. The highlight of the paper are state of communication among people dwelling in rural areas, rationalization for effective communication system for sustainable rural development, defining the scopes of communication in development which include development communication, health communication, agricultural communication, traditional communication and business communication. The use of mass media in communication and information service delivery for rural development, challenges to effective communication of information for rural development in post Covid-19 era and strategies for effective communication in information services delivery to rural dwellers were well articulated in the paper.

Purpose: This paper is a survey on the basis for libraries participation in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in south east and south-south Nigeria. This paper seeks to unravel the reasons why libraries should engage in CSR activities. Design/ methodology/approach: The study adopted survey research method with questionnaire designed using four-point likert rating scale for data collection. Population of study comprise of librarians working in the university libraries selected from the south-east and south-south geo-political zone of Nigeria; a total of 129 questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings: It was revealed that participating in community development, promotion of citizens welfare, disseminating information on employment opportunities to unemployed graduates, ensuring timely, regular and relevant information services-provision to members of the host community, supporting educational related activities such as scholarships and intern opportunities, and partnering with stakeholders to enhance educational consciousness of the citizenry among others are CSR activities that libraries can engage for sustainable development. Opportunities open to libraries from participating in CSR include change in public perception of libraries, establishment of mutual understating between the library and the community with librarians strengthening their value chain among others. Possible challenges to effective participation of libraries in CSR activities revealed include inadequate finding of libraries stakeholders’ divergent ideology on CSR lack of commitment towards CSR activities etc. Practical implications: There is an urgent need for librarians to embrace the philosophy of CSR and explore it as a means of remaining relevant to the society and their immediate environment. Purpose: the study investigates attitude of librarians’ towards provision of corporate social responsibility initiatives in state university libraries in south Nigeria. Design/methodology: The descriptive survey research method was adopted with research instruments structured using four-point Likert rating scale and used in generating data for the study. A total of 79 questionnaires were administered to librarians working in six (6) state universities in south-east and south-south Nigeria. A total of sixty-five (65) were retrieved. Descriptive statistics were used with the aid of Statistical Product Services Solution (SPSS) in analyzing the data. Findings: It was revealed that librarians have positive attitude towards the provision of CSR initiatives. Creation of CSR Unit, formulation of formal CSR policy and partnering with NGOs and others were identified as strategies through which CSR initiatives can be institutionalized. Demand for additional knowledge beyond the expertise of library practice is seen as a major challenge. Conclusion: Librarians are aware of the various CSR initiatives that can be provided in the university environment. Implication of findings: Library managers must show commitment towards the design and provision of CSR initiatives and they should be ready to partner with non-governmental organization (NGOs) and other relevant agencies. Originality/value: This paper has opened a new horizon for exploration within the domain of library setting as it relates to relationship with the host communities and parent institutions. This calls for more studies in the areas of corporate social responsibility in librarianship.

The purpose of the study is to examine educators’ perception of accreditation processes in university-based library and information science schools in south-east, Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted. The sample size comprises 38 library and information science educators working in the selected university-based library schools in South-east, Nigeria. The questionnaire was used for data collection. The generated data were analyzed using mean rating. Inadequacy of funds, shortage of qualified personnel, poorly equipped laboratory, shortage of teaching staff at the professorial cadre, lack of well equipped practical laboratory and non-participation of LRCN in accreditation process affect the accreditation of university-based library schools in the south-east zone. The paper concludes that state of accreditation process in university-based library schools is worrisome. There is a dire need to restructure the accreditation processes of university-based library schools and bring various stakeholders in librarianship into the streamline. Adequate funding of library schools, involvement of LRCN in accreditation of library schools, recruitment of qualified lecturers and engaging in exchange/collaboration programme were recommended.

The study focused on meeting the information needs of Nurses for effective health care delivery in Nigeria with Federal Medical Centre, Owerri as case study and the area of study is South-East, Nigeria.. The descriptive survey method was used. The nominal roll of Federal Medical Centre,Owerri was used to derive the population of the study which is 300 and the sample of the study is 171. The questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The data collected was analysed using the simple percentages and tables. The findings of the study revealed that the nurses had need of information to care and manage patients as well as to improve their knowledge in clinical areas. Internet, Journals and books were the major sources consulted by nurses even though they still consult other medical database. The nurses are not satisfied with the information sources they consult. The factor militating against easy accessibility to health information among nurses include inadequate training of nurses in the use of information resources, lack of access to internet amongst others. Stocking of medical libraries with current materials on nursing as well as automation of health and medical libraries were identified as strategies for solving the problems of accessibility to health information. The study concludes that the medical libraries should carry out users study to enable them meet the information need of nurses.
