16. Revealing strong polytypism tendency in MgTe from first-principles.

Abstract

The search for stable polytype phases of III-V and II-VI materials has attracted great interest in recent years due to their great potential for a broad range of applications. Here using density functional theory, we systematically explore electronic structure properties of cubic (3C) and hexagonal (2H, 4H and 6H) polytypes of magnesium telluride: MgTe. Total energies and nearest-neighbor bilayer interaction energies evidence that MgTe shows a high propensity to polytypism. This finding is further supported by mechanical and phonon stabilities of all polytype phases of MgTe. Additionally, ground structural properties, energetic stability, mechanical properties, band structure energies, and dynamical properties are examined in relation with the stacking sequence of 3C, 2H, 4H, and 6H polytypes in the Mg-Te system. Abstract

Dilute nitrides such as InAsN alloys represent a new class of highly mismatched semiconductors alloys, which have recently attracted strong attention due to their unique physical properties. In this paper we present computed structural, thermodynamic, and energetic characteristics of the dilute InAsN alloys. We found strong deviations from Vegard's law for the variation of the lattice constant of InAsN. Regarding the local environment of N, we notice that the clustering has a weak influence on the In-As bond, but shortens the In-N bond and strongly reduces the energy band gaps. In addition, wide miscibility gaps are predicted in the temperature range relevant to specimen synthesis and processing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Byline: H. Benaissa An agricultural by-product waste, orange peel, was tested for the removal of four acid dyes from aqueous solutions in batch conditions. As results obtained, kinetics of dyes sorption was time of contact, initial dyes concentration and dyes type dependent. The pseudo second-order reaction rate model adequately described the kinetics of dyes sorption with high correlation coefficients. A. Langmuir model gave a good fit to the experimental data. A high dyes sorption was observed by this sorbent material. For Nylosane Blue, a maximum sorption capacity about 65.88 mg/g was obtained followed by Erionyl Yellow (64.14 mg/g), Nylomine Red (62.07 mg/g) and Erionyl Red (40.72 mg/g) respectively.

Abstract

International audience; Eumycetoma is a chronic, necrotizing infection of fungal origin that usually occurs on a lower extremity, especially the foot. We describe the first case in Tunisia of eumycetoma of the hand due to Pseudallescheria boydii. Case report. - A 48-year-old agricultural worker presented with a swelling and painless cutaneous nodules of the right hand and wrist that drained spontaneously. No trauma of the hand was noted. Examination of the hand revealed multiple crusted sinus tracts in the palm and on the back of the hand. The right hand appeared swollen and deformed. There was no adenopathy or fever. Radiographic examination showed bone involvement with destruction of the wrist bones. The diagnosis of eumycetoma was confirmed by histological evidence (stained sections) that showed granules containing fungal hyphae and positive culture for P boydii. Initially, treatment with ketoconazole (400 mg daily for 14 months) failed. The patient subsequently received itraconazole (400 mg daily for 18 months) and a marked improvement was obtained. Six years after treatment was stopped, there had been no recurrence, but bone involvement resulted in permanent deformity with wrist ankylosis. (C) 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
