Affem Boussou community forest (AFC) abounds in important biological resources. This study, which contributes to its better management, examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of the vegetation and its ecological and structural characteristics to propose a zoning plan for said forest. The analysis of the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use in the AFC from Google Earth images of 2015, 2018, and 2021 revealed a regressive trend of formations: crops and fallows (−33.98%), dense dry forests (−7.92%), gallery forests (−3.46%), plantations (−100%), grassy savannahs, and meadows (−18.84%), except for tree/shrub savannahs (484.23%). The floristic inventory identified 163 species divided into 129 genera and 55 families. Fabaceae (14.02%), and Combretaceae (10.55%) are the most represented families. Anogeissus leiocarpa (5.19%) and Vitellaria paradoxa (4.72%) are the most frequent species. We note the dominance of individuals of small diameters. The regeneration potential of the AFC is 64 feet/ha due to 21 feet/ha of suckers, 29 feet/ha of seedlings, and 14 feet/ha of shoots. As a zoning plan, the AFC was subdivided into four zones: the agroforestry zone (18.80%), the sustainable production forest zone (42.22%), the buffer zone (11%), and the biological conservation zone (28%). These results constitute a scientific basis for testing ecological indicators of the sustainable management of community forests in Togo.

Contexte et justification : Les écosystèmes de la Forêt classée de la fosse de Doungh (FCFD) au Togo ont subi une dégradation très alarmante menaçant la survie de cet écosystème vitale. Disposer des connaissances sur diversité floristique et la structure des formations végétales contribuerait à la mise en œuvre d’un plan de gestion et de restauration de cette forêt classée. But et objectifs : Cette étude est une contribution à la gestion et à la restauration des écosystèmes forestiers de la FCFD, dans la Préfecture de Tandjouaré au Togo. Elle a évalué la diversité floristique, l’état de conservation des espèces ligneuses et la structure démographique des formations ligneuses. Méthodologie Les données physiques (inventaires floristiques, forestiers et écologiques) ont été collectées au sein de 83 placettes rectangulaires de 50 m x 20 m. La caractérisation floristique s’est basée sur les indices de diversité de Shannon, l’équitabilité de Piélou et l’indice de valeur d’importance des espèces. L’analyse structurale des formations végétales est faite par calcul arithmétique des caractéristiques forestières quantitatives et la structure en diamètre et hauteur des ligneux. Résultats : Au total, 204 espèces réparties en 140 genres et appartenant à 52 familles ont été inventoriées dans 83 placettes de forme rectangulaire de 50 m x 20 m. Les relevés ont été discriminés en 5 sous-groupes : des savanes arborées/arbustives, des champs/savanes arborées, les ripisylves, les savanes arborées et les parcs agroforestiers. On note la prédominance des individus jeunes avec de faibles diamètres et des hauteurs moyennes. La régénération est dominée par les souches (54,62%) témoignant de l’impact anthropique assez important dans cette aire protégée. Trois actions anthropiques majeures : l’agriculture (39,88 %), le feu de végétation (22,67 %) et la coupe de bois (23,10 %) respectivement favorisent l’amenuisement des ressources dans la forêt., African Journal on Land Policy and Geospatial Sciences, Vol. 6, No 3: May 2023

Ce présent article a pour objectif de faire le point sur l’état actuel des connaissances sur deux espèces végétales à répartition géographique restreinte au Togo afin de relever les axes de recherche pour leur conservation. Il s’agit de Annona glauca Shum. & Thonn. (Annonaceae) et Boswellia dalzielii Hutch (Burseraceae). Le moteur de recherche Google Scholar a été utilisé pour la recherche de littératuressur les deux espèces avec des mots-clés pertinents. Au total 85 documents qui sont soit des publications évaluées par les pairs, des livres, des thèses et des mémoires ont été consultés. La plupart des études actuelles portent sur les composés chimiques contenus dans les feuilles, les écorces pour Boswellia dalzielii Hutch et dans les racines et les graines pour Annona glauca Shum. & Thonn. Cependant dans le contexte actuel des changements climatiques, la conservation et le maintien de ces deux espèces exigent des investigations complémentaires sur leur écologie, leur phénologie et sur leur suivi démographique, leur aire de distribution actuelle, la biologie florale, la régénération et la génétique. English title: Current state of knowledge of two plant species with restricted geographical distribution in togo (Annona glauca shum. & thonn. (annonaceae) and Boswellia dalzielii hutch (burseraceae) and research perspectives This article aims to review the current state of knowledge on two plant species with restricted geographical distribution in Togo in order to identify areas of research for their conservation. This is Annona glauca Shum. & Thonn. (Annonaceae) and Boswellia dalzielii Hutch (Burseraceae). Google Scholar search engines were used to search for literature on both species with relevant keywords. A total of 85 documents which are either peer-reviewed publications, books, theses and dissertations were consulted. Most of the current studies focus on the chemical compounds contained in the leaves, barks for Boswellia dalzielii Hutch and in the roots and seeds for Annona glauca Shum. & Thonn. However, in the current context of climate change, the conservation of these two species require investigations on their ecology, phenology demographic monitoring, current distribution area, floral biology, regeneration and genetics.

Les infections vaginales et intestinales, maladies infectieuses, constituent un réel problème de santé publique. Face au problème de résistances antibiotiques rencontrées dans le traitement de ces infections, il s’avère indispensable de trouver des solutions alternatives. Cette étude avait pour objectif d’inventorier les plantes médicinales utilisées dans le traitement des infections vaginales et intestinales auprès des tradithérapeutes, des utilisateurs de plantes médicinales et des revendeuses de plantes médicinales dans 4 marchés de la région maritime. La collecte des données a été réalisée grâce à des interviews individuelles à l’aide d’un questionnaire semi-structuré. L’échantillonnage a été aléatoire. L’âge moyen des enquêtés était de 35 ans. Le niveau d’alphabétisation des enquêtés était respectivement de 45% pour le primaire, 21% pour le secondaire, 18% pour le niveau universitaire et 16% étaient analphabètes. 33 espèces de plantes ont été recensées au cours de cette étude. Les familles les plus représentées étaient les familles des Lamiaceae (4 espèces) et des Fabaceae (3 espèces), viennent ensuite les familles des Apocynaceae, des Arecaeae, des Lauraceae, des Asteraceae, des Euphorbiaceae, et des Lilliaceae. Les organes les plus utilisées étaient les feuilles (55,88%) et les fruits (14,70%) puis les graines (8,82%), les racines (8,82%), les écorces (5,88%), les bulbes (2,94%) et les rhizomes (2,94%). Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants used in the treatment of vaginal and intestinal infections in the maritime region of Togo Vaginal and intestinal infections are among infectious diseases a real public health problem. Faced with the problem of antibiotic resistance encountered in the treatment of these infections, it is essential to find alternative solutions. Our study aimed at inventorying the medicinal plants used in the treatment of vaginal and intestinal infections with traditional therapists, users of medicinal plants and resellers of medicinal plants in 4 markets in the maritime region. Data collection was carried out through individual interviews using a semistructured questionnaire. Sampling was random. The average age of respondents was 35 years. The literacy level of the respondents was 45% for primary school, 21% for secondary education, 18% for university and 16% were illiterate, respectively. 33 species were identified during this study. The most represented families were the family Lamiaceae (4 species) and Fabaceae (3 species), followed by the families Apocynaceae, Arecaeae, Lauraceae, Asteraceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Lilliaceae. The most used organs were leaves (55.88%) and fruits (14.70%) followed by seeds (8.82%), roots (8.82%), bark (5.88%), bulbs (2.94%) and rhizomes (2.94%).&nbsp

Context and background: Forest ecosystems have the capacity to regulate the climate as sink of carbon. This function allows them to maintain the ecological balance of the planet. Given the intensity of the ever-increasing human pressures on these ecosystems, it is urgent to quantify and spatialize their carbon storage potential in time and space in order to implement more appropriate environmental management practices and policies. Goal and objectives: The present study, which focused on the structure of woodland formations and carbon modeling of the Classified Forest of Missahohoé (CFM), intends to contribute to the sustainable management of protected areas in Togo. More specifically, it aims to: (i) determine the vegetation structure of the FCM and (ii) model the carbon in the MCF. Methodology: The methodology consisted on forest mensuration within 27 plots sized 50 m x 20 m. Dendrometric data were used to characterized the structure of the woodland formations, to estimate biomass and carbon stocks. The InVEST and MOLUSCE models combined with Landsat images was used to predict carbon sequestration for the year 2035 based on observed changes in this forest ecosystem. Results: The results of the diameter class structure reveal that these woodlands are dominated by young tree reflecting strong anthropogenic pressure namely shifting fields and illegally extraction of firewood. Between 2020 and 2035, for the whole target classified forest, a gain of 627.75 Mg of carbon is predicted. On the other hand, at the level of land use units, riparian/dense forests and tree/shrub savannahs will experience a carbon loss of -9.21% and -1.61% respectively. The economic value of the total carbon that would be sequestered in 2035 by the FCM is estimated at $3,197,148.85. The total loss of ecosystem service value in the two land use units from 2020 to 2035 would be $58,851.98. This study recommends restoration/reforestation as the most practical strategy for mitigating carbon loss and calls for increased access to renewable energy sources for local communities., African Journal on Land Policy and Geospatial Sciences, Vol 6, No 1: January 2023

Context and background: The roast palm parklands remain one of the most striking elements of the Savannah region of Togo. Given the importance of this resource for the local population, knowledge of their diversity and demographic structure is necessary for better management of roast palm plant communities throughout the Savannah region of Togo. Goal and objectives: The study carried out in the region of Savannahs of Togo contributes to the sustainable management of agroforestry parklands in Togo. It aims at: (i) mapping of the spatial distribution of Borassus species (Borassus aethiopum and Borassus akeassi) and (ii) characterize the diversity and the demographic structure of roast palm parklands in the Savannah Region of Togo. Methodology: Forest inventories were done within roast palm agroforestry parklands within plots 50 m X 50 m. Based on these inventories, diversity and dendrometry characteristics of the target parklands determined. Mapping consisted of the spatialization of densities by the interpolation. Results: B. aethiopum is mostly represented than B. akeassii found which is found punctually in a few locations. Roast palms parkland diversity was estimated to 23 plant species belonging to 21 genera and 14 families. Three (3) roast palm parklands were discriminated: mixed parks, B. aethiopum parks, and B. akeassii parks. The most represented families are: the Arecaceae (61 %) and the Sapotaceae (13 %). There is the dominance of mesophanerophytes (76 %) and transition species, Guineo-Congolese/Sudano-Zambezian. B. aethiopum mean diameter is 47.91 ± 1.54 cm, with a basal area and density 6.98 ± 2.33 m²/ha and 29.33 ± 1.66 stems/ha respectively. B. akeassii mean diameter is about 42.45 ± 1.61 cm with a basal area and mean density 3.43 ± 1.77 m²/ha and 18.5 ± 1.66 stems/ha respectively. Contexte et objectifs. La santé maternelle demeure un problème de santé majeur dans les pays en voie de développement. La présente étude a : (i) inventorié les divers maux bénins de la santé maternelle ; (ii) recensé les plantes utilisées dans la prise en charge de ces troubles ; (iii) décrit les diverses formes d’usages des plantes utilisées et (iv) évalué la variation des connaissances d’usages suivant le sexe, l’âge et l’ethnie. Méthodes. Des enquêtes ethnobotaniques couplées aux observations de terrain ont été réalisées dans la région Maritime du Togo en milieu rural auprès des populations rurales. L’analyse des données s’est basée sur les fréquences (Fr), les valeurs d’usages (VU), les indices de diversité d’usage (IDU), les indices de valeurs d’importance d’usage (IVIU) et l’indice de Sorenson (IS). Résultats. Une florule de 127 espèces végétales dont 126 plantes réparties en 112 genres et 57 familles et un champignon a été rapportée. Les Euphorbiaceae, les Leguminosae-Caesalpinioideae, les Asteraceae et les Leguminosae-Papilionoideae sont les familles les plus signalées dans la prise en charge de 37 affections. Conclusion. A l’issue de cette étude, plus d’une centaine de plantes utilisées dans les pathologies maternales et fœtales a été identifiée. Cependant, l’évaluation de l’efficacité ainsi que des tests toxicologiques sont nécessaires pour une meilleure valorisation des plantes rapportées. Context and objectives. Maternal healthcare remain a major health problem in developing countries. The present study (i) inventoried various benign conditions of maternal health, (ii) identified plant species used in the management of these conditions, (iii) described the various types of use of these plants, and (iv) evaluated the levels of knowledge on the use of plant species in the care of the pregnant and nursing women according to the gender, age and ethnic group. Methods. Semi-structured interviews coupled to field observations were carried out in the Maritime region of Togo among local populations. Data analysis was based on the computation of relative frequencies (Fr), the use values (UV), the diversity use index (DUI), the index of important use values (IIUV) and the Sorenson index (SI). Résultats. A flower of 127 plan species including 126 plants divided into 112 genera and 57 families and one fungus has been reported Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae-Caesalpinioideae, Asteraceae and Leguminosae-Papilionoideae were mostly used in the management of 37 conditions. Conclusion. This study identified more than one hundred plants species used in women‘s health-related disorders. Additional studies, including efficacy and toxicological tests are needed for better to promote these folk medicine practices.

The ethnobotany survey conducted in nine markets of Togo maritime region leads to identification of 106 medicinal species in 61 families and 97 genera, including 90 dicotyledons, 6 monocotyledons, and one fern. These different species are used in the treatment of 63 pathologies, of which malaria and Gynecologic disorders are the most common. This vast array of therapeutic indications shows the important role that plants play in medical terms. The infusion and decoction appear as the most used methods of the traditional therapists. Several parts of plants fall into these different preparations. The leaves are the most used. These results of ethnobotanical survey will allow a possible orientation in the choice of target plants for given pathologies and the search for new molecules that are more active. L’enquete ethnobotanique menee sur neuf marches de la region maritime du Togo a permis de recenser 106 especes medicinales regroupees en 61 familles et 97 genres, dont 90 dicotyledones, 6 monocotyledones et une fougere. Ces differentes especes interviennent dans le traitement de 63 pathologies, le paludisme et les troubles gynecologiques etant les plus frequentes. Cette grande panoplie d’indications therapeutiques montre le role important que les plantes jouent sur le plan medical. L’infusion et la decoction apparaissent comme les modes de preparation les plus utilises par les traditherapeutes. Plusieurs parties des plantes entrent dans ces differentes preparations. Les feuilles sont les plus utilisees. Ces resultats d’enquetes ethnobotaniques pourront permettre une orientation eventuelle dans le choix des plantes cibles pour des pathologies donnees et la recherche de nouvelles molecules plus actives.
