The coralligenous habitat was studied at the large Mediterranean scale, by applying a standardized, non-destructive photo-sampling protocol, developed in the framework of the CIGESMED project. The results provided evidence to support the following statements: (a) the assemblage pattern is not homogeneously distributed across the four Mediterranean ecoregions studied (biotic gradients hypothesis); and (b) the assemblage pattern does not change significantly when the information is aggregated to higher taxonomic levels (taxonomic sufficiency hypothesis). Surrogate taxonomic categories higher than species, such as genus and family, can be used to reveal the multivariate pattern of the coralligenous assemblages. Although preliminary at the pan-Mediterranean scale, these outcomes set the scene for future comparisons as more data sets become available but also for comparisons between taxonomic and functional patterns. 1.2.3.4.

WOS: 000456094500012, Eucrate crenata that is a lessepslan species, is expanding its distribution area in the eastern Mediterranean. Several individuals of the species caught with the nets of fishermen were obtained. This species has been reported in the past from the Levantine coast of Turkey and this study provides information on the established population of this species in the lzmir Bay on the Aegean Sea coast. In addition, the color variations and morphological differences of this species were compared with previous studies.

WOS: 000423988600007, Research surveys were conducted in a protection area between June and September 2008 along the coast of Fethiye Bay, Turkey. A total of 999 specimens of isopods belonging to 15 families and 41 species were captured at 82 localities with depths ranging between 0 and 30 m from various substrates. Of these, 25 species (Cleantis prismatica, Astacilla longicornis, Apanthura corsica, Jaera hopeana, Janira maculosa, J. nordmanni, Bopyrus squillarum, Cirolana cranchii, Eurydice affinis, Cymodoce emarginata, C. hanseni, C. tuberculata, C. spinosa, Dynamene bifida, D. edwardsi, D. magnitorata, Ischyromene lacazei, Lekanesphaera monodi, Sphaeroma walkeri, Joeropsis brevicornis littoralis, Limnoria lignorum, Paranthura nigropunctata, Synischia hectica, Stenosoma capito, Halophiloscia couchi) were new records from the Levantine Sea coast of Turkey. New findings about the distribution area of Penaeus aztecus and Metapenaeus affinis were reported with this study. Diagnostic features of the both species and some morphometric measures of the specimens were given. In addition, the recent occurrence map of these species in the Mediterranean Sea is provided., Novi nalazi kozica Penaeus aztecus i Metapenaeus affinis predstavljeni su u ovom radu, te su iznesene dijagnostičke značajke obje vrste i neka morfometrijska mjerenja uzoraka. Osim toga, prikazana je i nova mapa nalaza ovih vrsta u Mediteranu.

This study, conducted in the Turkish Straits, has revealed 21 new records of amphipods for the Straits and two new records for the Turkish coasts, Iphimedia gibbula and Rhinolabia parthenopeia. Informations about distinctive taxonomic characters, geographical distribution of the species are given and hypotheses are discussed.

Ege Denizi’ndeki dört Dekapod (Decapoda, Crustaceae) türünün fekonditesi ve yumurta gelişimi. Bu çalışmada, Plesionika martia, Plesionika heterocarpus, Chlorotocus crassicornis, Munida rutllanti türlerinin fekonditesi, yumurta boyutu ve gelişimi incelenmiştir. Decapod krustase örnekleri, ticari “Hapuloğlu” trol teknesi ile Ege Denizi’nin uluslararası sularında 240 m ile 460 m derinlikler arasından toplanmıştır. P. martia, P. heterocarpus, C. crassicornis, M. rutllanti türlerinin, karapas uzunluğu – ağırlık ilişkisi sırasıyla W = 0.4945 × CL–3.9564, W = 0.3681 × CL–2.8551, W = 0.1963 × CL–1.3166, W = 0.3904 × CL–3.0074 olarak bulunmuştur. P. martia için ortalama yumurta sayısı 11671 (S.D.±752) olarak hesaplanmıştır. M. rutllanti için ortalama yumurta sayısı 2895 (S.D.±1386), P. heterocarpus için 2925 (S.D.±721), C. crassicornis için 2056 (S.D.±533) olarak hesaplanmıştır. Türlerin karapas boyu ve yumurta sayıları arasındaki ilişkiler şu denklemlerle belirlenmiştir: P. martia için F= 730.38 × CL – 579.4, P. heterocarpus için F = 374.99 × CL – 2277.7, C. crassicornis için F = 194.2 × CL – 1080.8 ve M. rutllanti için F= 689.47 × CL – 5895.6

İzmir Körfezi’nde bugüne kadar yapılmış olan çalışmaların sonucunda Sessilia, Leptostraca, Stomatopoda, Mysidacea, Amphipoda, Isopoda, Tanaidacea, Cumacea ve Decapoda ordolarına ait 444 tür krustase tespit edilmiştir. Amphipoda ordosu tür sayısı bakımında en baskın grubu oluşturmaktadır. Körfezde tespit edilen krustase türlerinin 18’i İzmir Körfezi’nden ilk defa bildirilmektedir

International audience; A preliminary study of coralligenous benthic assemblages was performed in 2013 at 20 sites in Turkey, Greece and France within the framework of the EU-funded project CIGESMED. At each area the most conspicuous species were recorded using in situ observations and photoquadrats. The survey revealed a total of 267 species belonging to 11 systematic groups. Within the sampled sites, algae ranked first in terms of species richness (83 species), followed by Porifera (55 species), Cnidaria (32 species), Bryozoa (22 species) and Echinodermata (21 species). A total of 172 species were encountered in France, 107 species in Turkey and 93 species in Greece. Six alien species, Caulerpa cylindracea, Stypopodium schimperi, Acrothamnion preissii, Womersleyella setacea, Amphistegina lobifera and Synaptula reciprocans, were found at sampling sites. Taking into account the preliminary character of the performed surveys, the biodiversity reported herein is presumably underestimated. Species richness is expected to increase following the upcoming, more exhaustive CIGESMED surveys. The final species lists will later be critically evaluated to meet the needs for developing new biotic indices and also for applying already developed ones (e.g. Index-Cor) in order to be used by scientists, managers and stake holders for the effective monitoring and management of coralligenous communities.

Amfipod bireyleri 07 Nisan 2007’de Samandağ, Hatay (Akdeniz’in Türkiye kıyıları) açıklarında yürütülen deneysel dip çalışması sırasında yakalanan Caretta caretta (Linnaeus, 1758)’nın üzerinden bulunmuştur. C. andreae Türkiye Denizleri amfipod faunası için yenidir., The present study reports the occurrence of 2 amphipod species, Caprella andreae Mayer, 1890 and Podocerus chelonophilus Chevreux & Guerne, 1888, that appeared on the carapace of the loggerhead turtle Caretta caretta (Linnaeus, 1758) in the eastern Mediterranean Sea (Levantine Sea). The amphipod specimens were found on a male Caretta caretta captured during experimental bottom studies conducted off Samandağ, Hatay (the Turkish Mediterranean coast) on 7 April 2007. In addition, Caprella andreae Mayer 1890 was collected from the nets of fish cages off the Seferihisar (Aegean Sea) coast (38°11'32"N, 26°38'07"E). C. andreae is a first report for the amphipod fauna in Turkish seas.

Megamphopus katagani sp. nov. (Figs 2, 3) Type material. Holotype, male, 2.9 mm., ESFM-MAL/ 2010-2220, entrance of the Dardanelles in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey, 40 �� 26 ' 28 "N 27 ��05'09"E, on coralligene bottom, April 2010. Paratypes, 76 males, 112 females, ESFM-MAL/ 2010-2221, dissected and figured paratype, 2.9 mm, ESFM-MAL/ 2010-2222, same data as holotype. Type locality. Entrance of the Dardanelles in the Sea of Marmara. Etymology. Named in honour of the carcinologist Prof. Dr. Tuncer Katagan, who always encourages young scientists. Description. Based on male holotype 2.9 mm. Head. Head ocular lobes strongly produced, rounded, sub-ocular margin strongly recessed. Eye subovoid to subreniform. Antennae missing (absent also in all paratypes). Mandible palp article 3 spatulate, shorter than article 2. Maxilla 1 inner plate without setae. Maxilla 2 inner plate with facial setal row. Maxilliped dactylus broad. Pereon. Gnathopod 1 coxa subrectangular, not produced forward; basis elongate, slender; carpus subovoid, a little longer than propodus; propodus palm with rounded excavation, posterodistal margin produced, scalloped with about five equidistant robust setae; dactylus sub-straight, longer than propodus. Gnathopod 2 much larger than gnathopod 1, coxa subsquare; basis robust, about three times as long as broad, anterior margin concave, carpus shorter than propodus, subovoid; propodus about twice as long as broad, subovoid, palm weakly excavate with small, medial, rounded protrusion; dactylus about two thirds length of propodus, strongly overlapping palm. Pereopods 3���4 dactylus less than half length of propodus. Pereopods 5���7 in the length ratios 3: 4: 4; basis subovoid. Pleon. Epimera 1���3 rounded. Uropod 1, peduncle with many marginal robust setae and with a short interramal spine; outer ramus shorter than inner ramus; inner ramus subequal in length with peduncle. Uropod 2 similar to uropod 1 but lacking an inter-ramal spine; Uropod 3 peduncle short; rami very unequal in length, inner ramus twice length of peduncle; outer ramus one and a half length of peduncle. Telson about as broad as long, each lateral crest with a single, long, robust seta. Female sexually dimorphic characters (based on paratype 2.9 mm). Gnathopod 1 coxa subrectangular; basis robust, broadening distally, carpus distinctly longer than propodus; propodus palm oblique, evenly continuous. Gnathopod 2 only a little larger than gnathopod 1; carpus and propodus subequal in length; propodus palm oblique, evenly continuous. Habitat. Coralligenous and sand-mud mixture at 15 m. Remarks. Megamphopus katagani sp. nov. is most similar to M. cornutus Norman, 1869 and M. longidactylus Chevreux, 1926 in its subsquare coxa and subrectangular propodus on the male gnathopod 2. In M. longidactylus, however, the dactylus of the male gnathopod 2 is subequal in length with the propodus, and in M. cornutus it is very short. In M. longicornis Chevreux, 1911 and in M. brevidactylus Myers, 1976, the ocular lobes terminate in a sharp point whereas in M. katagani the lobes are rounded. It also differs from all other described species in the genus by the complexly scalloped posterodistal margin of the male gnathopod 1 propodus. Distribution. Megamphopus Norman, 1869 Diagnosis. Head with lateral lobes strongly produced, subocular margin strongly recessed. Mandible palp article 3 spatulate, shorter than article 2. Antenna 1 peduncle article 3 longer than article 1; accessory flagellum very small but distinct. Coxa 2 the largest, especially in male; coxae 3���7 relatively shallow. Gnathopods subchelate; male gnathopod 2 greatly enlarged. Uropod 3 rami longer than peduncle. Telson broad with a strong robust seta on each lateral crest. Remarks.
