Background: Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) commonly known as gram or Bengal gram, is an important pulse crop in India. Its productivity is low due to some biotic and abiotic stress, where diseases constitute major biotic constraints. For eco-friendly and sustainable management, T. viride was found effective as biocontrol and in enhancing yield. Methods: An experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2018-19 on nodule enumeration and nutrient quality of chickpea influenced by inoculation of T. viride derived from treatment of different carbon and nitrogen sources at research field JNKVV, Jabalpur, India. Trials followed randomized block design (RBD) experimental design, where a total of 16 treatments including fertilized uninoculated (FUI) replicated thrice using chickpea var. JG-16 as test crop. Result: From the result it can be proposed that seed treatment from T. viride isolates derived from peptone + ammonium sulphate was found significantly effective on the nodule enumeration like no. of nodule, nodule biomass, nutrient content in seed and straw and yield of chickpea.

The present investigation was conducted to see the effect of microbial consortia on microbial population, available nutrients in soil and yield of soybean grown during 2018-19 under an ongoing All India Network Project on Soil Biodiversity and Biofertilizers at the Research Farm of Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Coinoculation in the form of a consortium with Pseudomonas fluorescens (PGPR) Actinomycetes (Actino) and Arthrobacter (Arthro) was found beneficial in enhancing yield of soybean. Application of recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) along with microbial consortium (PGPR+Actino+Arthro) recorded significantly higher amounts of available nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) which resulted in 43, 30 and 37 per cent, respectively over that of fertilized uninoculated control. Similarly, plots receiving RDF+PGPR+Actino+Arthro recorded significantly higher populations of Actinomycetes, Arthrobacter and PGPR at 25, 45 and 65 days after sowing which were 1.71, 1.42 and 1.52 log fold; 1.32, 1.28 and 1.31 log fold; and 1.56, 1.35 and 1.44 log fold, respectively over that of fertilized uninoculated control. In almost all cases, the treatment combinations of RDF+PGPR+Arthro, RDF+PGPR+Actino and RDF+Arthro+Actino exhibited similar performances. Seed and stover yields of soybean increased by 44 and 61 per cent, respectively over that of fertilized uninoculated control. It may be concluded that application of microbial consortia may be followed for enhancing soybean yield, available soil nutrients and microbial populations by direct as well as indirect beneficial effect.

Kodo millet provides staple food with cheap protein, minerals and vitamins to poor, marginal, tribal and backward people of Madhya Pradesh. This crop is responsive to the adverse climatic and poor soil conditions. The present investigation was carried out to improve kodo yield through different inputs and their integration to reduce the input cost. Due to very poor soil nature, a single source of any input was not found encouraging. Inorganic fertilizers (T2–100% NPK) gave promise grain yield (1435 kg/ha) over control (620 kg/ha) but it is realized that they are beyond the purchasing power of these resource poor farmers. Azotobacter + PSB (T4) was better in grain yield (695 kg/ha) as compared to Azospirillum +PSB (T7–665 kg/ha). While FYM alone (T12) gave grain yield 815 kg/ha. Integration of all the inputs 50% NP +100% K+ Azotobacter + PSB+ FYM proved best and increased the kodo yield (T10–1585 kg/ha) significantly. All treated plots had higher indices of profitability than control. The profitability was maximum 1.90 under T10 (50%NP +100% K+ Azotobacter + PSB+ FYM).
