1. Study of octupole deformations in Pb-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV

Abstract

In this letter, we present the study of the role of octupole deformation in non-spherical nuclei in most-central Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energy regime. The sensitivity of octupole deformation β3 to the QGP observables is presented by employing Monte-Carlo HYDJET++ model. Motivated by the discrepancies in the v2-to-v3 puzzle found in Pb-Pb collisions and the low-energy nuclear structure calculations of nuclear deformation, we studied the first basic observables necessary for any study in heavy-ion collisions. Using HYDJET++ framework, we calculate the pseudorapidity distribution, transverse momentum (pT) spectra and average anisotropic flow (v2 and v3) of primary charged hadrons with different parameters in two geometrical configurations: body-body and tip-tip type of Pb-Pb collisions. 2. High resolution LC-MS characterization of phenolic compounds and the evaluation of antioxidant properties of a tropical purple radish genotype

Abstract

This study reports qualitative profiling of the phenolic compounds in an indigenously developed purple radish genotype VRRAD-151 using ultra performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry. The root and leaf samples were harvested at the horticultural maturity stage of the genotype. Roots were divided into the periderm, and xylem, and the leaf samples were divided into petiole, and lamina, and these were separately extracted with methanol before the LC-MS analysis. A total of 66 compounds, including 23 flavonols, 1 dihydroflavonols, 4 flavonones, 4 flavones, 28 anthocyanins, 2 isoflavonoids, 3 phenolic acids, and 1 hydroxybenzaldehyde were putatively identified based on high resolution accurate mass analysis with the data processing through UNIFI®, which is a comprehensive compound identification software solution. An in-house developed database comprising the secondary metabolites of polyphenols was used for the screening purpose, and each phenolic compound was identified based on the detection of the precursor ion, and at least one characteristic fragment ion, each with less than 5 ppm of mass error. Anthocyanins were the most abundant type of phenolics exhibiting 59% in leaf petiole, 80% in root periderm, and 90% in root xylem. The relative concentration of anthocyanins was lower (11%) in the leaf lamina. Cyanidins were the most predominant anthocyanins accounting for 54, 100, 90 and 65%, in leaf lamina, leaf petiole, root periderm and root xylem, respectively. Eight anthocyanins and 25 flavonols (except kaempferol-3-O-p-coumaryl-shophoroside-7-O-glucoside) are tentatively new identifications and reported for the first time in radish. Flavonols were found to be the predominant group of phenolic compounds in the leaf lamina, and interestingly, the gradient of antioxidant activity followed the (relative) concentration gradient of flavonols in the samples. The relative antioxidant activity of various fractions when compared with each other, followed the trend: leaf lamina > root periderm > leaf petiole ≈ root xylem. Based on the results it can be reflected that this genotype can be utilized as a functional food for management of various human and animal diseases. Since the detected anthocyanins were mostly present in acylated forms, this genotype can function as a potential source of stable natural colorants. Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory and multi-systemic autoimmune disorder, characterized by an uncontrolled auto-reactivity of B and T lymphocytes, leading to the production of autoantibodies against self-directed antigens and tissue damage. The life expectancy in patients with SLE has improved tremendously in the last two decades, but the mortality rates still remain three times greater compared to those of the general population. Despite increased awareness and improved management, infections remain a major source of morbidity, mortality, hospitalization, and death in patients with SLE. The infections in SLE patients widely range from opportunistic to common bacterial and viral infections with typical or atypical presentations. Moreover, SLE patients exhibit an increased susceptibility to hospital-acquired infections. Factors associated with increased risk of infections include high disease activity, specific immune dysregulation, drug-induced immune deficiency, and organ failure with irreversible damage. Furthermore, immunosuppressive agents may make patients more susceptible to opportunistic infections. A big challenge faced by physicians in these patients is to distinguish between infections and flares of SLE, as infections may mimic them, leading to predicament in diagnosis and appropriate management. Immunosuppression used to treat severe flares of lupus can have catastrophic complications in patients with active infections. There is an urgent need for biomarkers to make an accurate differential diagnosis in this situation. In spite of increased understanding of SLE, many questions remain unanswered. Further research is needed to determine specific immune dysregulation underlying the increased susceptibility to specific infections, predictors of infection in SLE such as genetic markers, and biomarkers that discriminate between disease activity and active infections. Also, measures must be evaluated appropriately to prevent infections, and their complications in SLE.

A key approach in development of any pharmaceutical dosage form is to establish applicability and assuring the quality safety of its product. IVIVC establishes an important link between the in-vitro dissolution and the in-vivo release of the drug under study. Utilizing an IVIVC approach in advancement of new pharmaceutical reduces the figured human studies and pre-clinical studies, as it serves as surrogate for bioequivalency. It validates the drug dissolution studies, and thus assists in quality control for assertive scale up. The aim of this study is to compare and investigate the predicted plasma concentration-time profile of metronidazole (model drug) from in vitro dissolution results of formulated product with two reference marketed products, Brand A and Brand B using mathematical convolution approach for IVIVC. In-vitro drug dissolution tests were conducted using the USP type-II at 50 rpm with 900 mL of 0.1 M HCl as dissolution medium. Predicted blood levels along with the derived pharmacokinetic parameters (Tmax, Cmax, and AUC) were assessed, for all the three products with the comparable in-vivo data reported in the well authentic published literature. The predicted pharmacokinetic parameters obtained from F1, Brand A and Brand B were found to be similar to that of the values obtained from literature. The predicted Cmax and AUC were found to be 7.09 ± 0.18 μg mL−1 and 90.17 ± 11 μg mL-1 h for F1, 6.41 ± 0.17 μg mL−1 and 81.68 ± 09 μg mL-1 h for Brand A, 6.12 ± 0.11 μg mL−1 and 77.13 ± 14μgmL−1 h for Brand B. Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the combined effect of internal heating and time periodic gravity modulation in a viscoelastic fluid saturated porous medium by reducing the problem into a complex non-autonomous Ginzgburg-Landau equation. Weak nonlinear stability analysis has been performed by using power series expansion in terms of the amplitude of gravity modulation, which is assumed to be small. The Nusselt number is obtained in terms of the amplitude for oscillatory mode of convection. The influence of viscoelastic parameters on heat transfer has been discussed. Gravity modulation is found to have a destabilizing effect at low frequencies and a stabilizing effect at high frequencies. Finally, it is found that overstability advances the onset of convection, more with internal heating. The conditions for which the complex Ginzgburg-Landau equation undergoes Hopf bifurcation and the amplitude equation undergoes supercritical pitchfork bifurcation are studied.

Abstract

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a dynamic soil property that represents the key component of the forest ecosystems. The main objective of the present study is to evaluate SOC using the remote sensing images as well as field methods at Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve Forest area. The soil samples were collected randomly from the region at several field locations, to estimate the surface soil carbon concentrations in the laboratory. The study derived results for bare soil index, NDVI, SOC and relationship of SOC with NDVI using regression analysis, while comparing reference SOC (field measured SOC) and predicted SOC (estimated from satellite image). The remote sensing images were used to predict the precise carbon content associated with organic matter in the soil using NDVI and related equations, to prepare digital soil organic carbon map. The relationship between the NDVI and both reference/predicted SOC is established using the equation to derive the digital SOC for the study area using remote sensing data. The statistical relationship between reference SOC, pH concentrations, and NDVI values were presented against the predicted SOC to provide the variation between each variable.

Abstract

The potential of fly ash, a low cost and abundantly available material with good sorption properties, for removing phenols was investigated. Nitro-substituted phenols, i.e. o -nitrophenol, m -nitrophenol and p -nitrophenol, were selected for the studies. The effect of various factors such as adsorbent particle size, pH, phenol concentration and temperature on the sorption capacity was investigated. The removal of nitro-substituted phenols increased with decreasing adsorbent particle size, pH and increasing concentration and temperature. Langmuir adsorption isotherm constants were calculated and it was shown that the adsorption data for phenols onto fly ash fitted the Langmuir model well. The adsorption of the nitrophenols studied followed first-order rate kinetics. Thermodynamic studies were also undertaken and the values of the standard free energy (ΔG 0 ), enthalpy (ΔH 0 ) and entropy (ΔS 0 ) changes calculated.

Abstract

The onset of multi-diffusive convection problem is analysed theoretically to include the effects of suspended particles and rotation through a porous medium. In the present paper, Brinkman model is considered for the porous medium. The variations in fluid density are due to the variation in stratifying components having different thermal and solute diffusivities. Linear stability analysis procedure along with normal mode method is employed to obtain a dispersion relation in terms of thermal and solute Rayleigh number. Further, the case of stationary convection (when the growth rate vanishes) is also discussed and a dispersion relationship between thermal and solute Rayleigh numbers is obtained to study the effect of various embedded parameters. The critical thermal and solute Rayleigh numbers can be obtained with the help of critical dimensionless wave number for varying values of physical parameters.

Background: Garden pea is one of the most important legume crop which require proper crop management practices. Crop regulation is an important practices which enhancing the productivity of garden pea with higher economic return. This can be done by adopting proper application of PGRs. Therefore, the present study was designed to assess the effect of PGRs on growth and yield of garden pea. Methods: The present study was laid out on garden pea (Pisum sativum subsp. hortense) cv. Azad Pea-3 in a randomized block design with three replications and ten treatments comprising different levels NAA, GA3 and Salicylic acid at various stages. The data on growth and yield were recorded and analyzed statistically applying the analysis of variance technique. Result: Results revealed that the plants treated with 120 ppm gibberellic acid showed 45.39% 38.55%, 40.60% and 32.84% increment in plant height, length of pod, width of pod and number of seeds per pod and taken lowest number of days to 50% flowering over control, respectively. The use of 40 ppm NAA exhibited maximal enhancement in number of pods per plant (57.43-68.02%), seed weight per pod and Pod yield per hectare (50.62-60.26%) over remaining treatments. Conclusively, the results suggest that foliar application of PGRs favors the growth and yield of garden pea.

Fire, since ancient times have kept amusing mankind in various ways. Perhaps it is one of the greatest inventions in the history of all times. It has helped humans to evolve but if mishandled can lead to serious consequences. It is commonly encountered as medical emergencies in any hospital in India. It has continuously effected population resulting in form of prolonged morbidity, disability and even as death of the individual ultimately leading to loss to individual’s family, society and to the state. The present prospective study was carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, M.G.M. Medical College & M.Y. Hospital, Indore during the period from 1st August 2017 to 31st July 2018 which includes a total of 277 cases of death due to burn injuries, brought to the mortuary of the hospital for medico-legal postmortem examination. During the study period burn in female victims was more evident with accounting 178 (64.3%) cases as compared to males 99 (35.7%). 31-40 years age group in males i.e. 24 (8.6%) was most effected and minimum in the age group of 0-10 years i.e. 5 (1.8%) whereas in females maximum incidence was noted in the age group of 21-30 years i.e. 80 (28.8%) and minimum 5 cases were reported in age group of above 61 years. The minimum age to suffer burns was 1 year which was a male child and maximum age was 80 years which was a male patient. Various other demographic aspects of deaths due to burns were included as objective in the study and ultimately provided some remedial measures in order to cope up with current scenario. Amongst all form of asphyxial death, hanging is most frequently encountered by forensic experts. Easy availability and presence of wide range of ligature materials at home itself makes hanging a preferred method of committing suicide over other methods. Findings over neck vary from case to case depending upon various factors like position of knot over neck, composition of ligature material, duration of suspension etc. The present prospective study was carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, M.G.M. Medical College & M.Y. Hospital, Indore, during the period from 1st August 2017 to 31st July 2018 and includes a total of 203 cases of death due to Hanging, brought to the mortuary of the hospital for medico-legal postmortem examination. Male victims were 137 (67.5%) and females were 66 (32.5%). The majority of victims belonged to 3rd decade among males were 49 (24.1%), followed by 4th decade were 44 (21.7%) while 2nd decade was most common among females were 25 (12.3%), followed by 3rd decade were 24 (11.8%). The objective of the study was to understand various demographic profile and various aspects of deaths due to hanging so as to suggest some remedial measures. Abstract

The term ‘Autopsy’ originates from ancient ‘Autopsia’ which is derived from ‘Autos’ i.e. ‘Oneself’ and ‘Opsis’ i.e. ‘to see for oneself’. Medico-legal postmortem examinations are performed as mandatory legal procedures for establishing the cause of death for people dying in circumstances where multiple causes of death could be ascribed. The present prospective study was carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, M.G.M. Medical College & M.Y. Hospital, Indore during the period from 1st August 2017 to 31st July 2018 which includes a total 2197 cases of death, brought to the mortuary of the hospital for medico-legal postmortem examination. The main objectives of the study were: to ascertain the various aspects of unnatural deaths, to analyze the probable reasons for the same & to find remedial measures to bring down the incidence. During the study period 2197 cases were analyzed in which 609 (27.8%) were females and 1588 (72.2%) were males. Major causes of death comprises trauma 818 (37.2%) burn 277 (12.6%) poisoning 238 (10.8%) asphyxia 237 (10.7%) and multiple pathology 146 (6.6%). Opinion about the cause of death was reserved in 310 (14.1%). This study was conducted to determine and evaluate the socio-demographic profile of different types of cases and to assess the nature and cause of their death. Abstract

Head injuries are the most serious injuries in the term of morbidity and mortality. This study was conducted in mortuary of MGM Medical College, Indore over the period of one year from 1st October 2014 to 30th September 2015. A total of 200 post-mortem cases of road traffic accident victims were studied. Objective of the study was to find out pattern and distribution of intracranial hemorrhages in fatal road traffic accident victims. In the present study males (n=156, 78.0%) outnumbered females (n=44, 22.0 %). Most affected age group was between 21-30 years having total 65 cases (32.5%), followed by 31-40 years in 38 (19.0 %) cases. Sub Dural Hemorrhage (SDH) alone was present in 32 (16.0%) cases which was most common, followed by Sub Arachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH) in 31 (15.5%) cases. In combination SDH with SAH was most common hemorrhage i.e. in 88 (44.0%) cases. RTAs were more common in the younger age groups and in male sex. Head injury was the major cause of death in majority cases of RTAs mostly due to Subdural and Subarachnoid Haemorrhages. This further shows the need of strict implementations of rules for controlling the speed of vehicle. Abstract

Electricity has become our life line in today’s world, its hard to imagine life without it. But along with its great advantages and conveniences, it also brings imminent danger to our life. Morbidity and mortality associated with electrical burns are usually preventable with adoption or application of basic safety measures. The present study was based on retrospective analysis of electrocution burn cases performed during the period from 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2020 in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, M.G.M. Medical College, Indore (M.P). This study comprised 95 cases brought with the history of electrocution, consisting of 84 males and 11 females. Majority of the victims belonged to the age group of 21-30 years. In, 55.79 % victims only entry marks were seen and 17.89 % showed both entry and exit mark. Joule burns were seen in 68.42% of victim where as flame burns in 21.05%. Upper limbs were commonly involved in 57.89% cases and become commonest site for entry mark due to contact with electric source and right & left foot become commonest site for exit mark. Most of the people do not have basic knowledge of hazard of electrocution. Therefore awareness about adoption of proper safety measure and use of good quality appliances are important factors required for the prevention of electrocution injuries.

Abstract

This is a 05 years retrospective autopsy bases study of cases of fatal snake envenomation presenting to the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College & M.Y. Hospital, Indore, from January 2016 to December 2020. The purpose of this study is to present the epidemiological pattern of snake poisoning in this region, as also to describe the clinical characteristic features. In our study, 58 cases (41 males & 17 females) of death due to snakebite were brought for medico legal post mortem examination to this department. Of these, maximum number of cases year wise, i.e. 17 cases; brought in the year of 2019. Age wise categorization shows equal no. of cases, i.e. 12 cases; in age groups 11-20, 21-30 & 31-40 years, followed by 11 cases in the age group of 41-50 years. The months of the rainy season, i.e. July & August, accounted forthe maximum no. of casesi.e. 23. 70.68% of cases received hospitalization after getting bit by the snake. The area involved most commonly for the bite was the right upper limb (32.76%) followed by left lower limb (29.32%). In 89.66% of cases, only single site of bite was seen; with two fang marks in 55.17% cases, whereas in 34.49% cases, single fang mark was found. Hemorrhagic reactions (43.10%) followed by Swelling with induration (31.03%) were the common local changes at the site of bite. Cyanosis of nails was seen as most common non-specific sign of snake bite over body in 60.34% of total cases.

Abstract

Introduction- To describe a safe method to undergo direct laryngoscopic examination and biopsy, during the post lockdown period (of COVID-19 pandemic).A case study in retrospect. Result-Thirty patients with suspected laryngeal malignancy requiring laryngoscopic examination during the period of 1st June 2020 to 31th January, 2021 were identied. Screening for COVID-19 was done and then the patients were taken up for the procedure under general anaesthesia (irrespective of site of growth). Health workers followed all precaution protocols (use of personal protective equipment, N95 mask, eye shield, etc.). Conclusion- Although lockdown controlled the spread of COVID-19, it had a drastic effect on services offered to the patient. Safety can be ensured to the health workers, if we carry out the procedure with full precautions in the post COVID period.

Abstract

Assault cases coming to casualty of a hospital primarily reflects the intensity of the crime of that region. The present study was conducted in the casualty of Sri Aurobindo Medical College and Post Graduate Institute, Indore. Duration of study was 2 years from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2017 during which 194 cases were studied. Out of all the cases male victims were 163(84.02%) and females were 31(15.98%). Adult age group from 21- 30 years was most commonly affected with a sum total of 72(37.11%) victims. Commonest injury was laceration in 76(32.07%) cases followed by swelling in 55(23.20%) cases present over different parts of body. Surgery department was called for intervention in 133(68.56%) of cases than orthopedics department in 71(36.60%) cases. All the victims were examined meticulously, treated and injury report was made and further informed to police for investigation and judicial proceedings. Abstract

As per prevalent view to determine cause of death in decomposed body is not rewarding in most of the cases but in our study we have determined cause of death in 30 cases out of 58 cases. Despite technical difficulties in handling the body and artifactual alteration of the tissue, the decomposed body may still reveal cause of death in significant number of cases. Fifty eight medico legal autopsies of decomposed bodies were conducted by us at M.G.M. Medical College, Indore, M.P. over twenty months study period from February 2012 to September 2013, Male (67.24%) predominance was seen in decomposed bodies with male female ratio of 2.44: 1. Maximum contribution by adult's 86.21% age group between 18 to 60 years followed by juvenile less than 18 years age group in 6.90% cases and least number of cases were seen in old age more than 60 years age group in 3.45% of Cases. Decomposition pattern categorized and 39.66% cases were in advance stage of decomposition followed by 37.93% cases was in moderate stage and least number 22.41% cases were found in early stage. The cause of death was ascertained in 51.72% of cases. Asphyxia (36.67%) was the commonest cause of death in decomposed bodies followed by cranio-cerebral damage in 30% of cases. Most of the decomposed bodies were found in summer season (65.52%) followed by rainy season in 25.86% of cases. Very few numbers of studies are available about decomposed body in available literatures.

Abstract

A problem is a well-posed problem if it satisfy, solution existence, solution uniqueness and non- perturbation conditions. Ill-posed problems or inverse problems are the special case of well-posed problem, because inverse of major function does not exist. Forest fire prediction is an inverse problem. Forest are the largest natural resources. Forest fire is a calamity, it is a threat to the entire regime of flora and fauna. Forest fire mitigation is essential because it can devastate biodiversity, wild life and can cause economic loss. In this research work extreme learning machine is used, because it has capability prediction problem solves with better generalization and fast learning speed. ELM is a new approach to be used for forest fire prediction. Presented work predict the forest fire occurrence with the help of topographical and metrological data, with parameters slope, Aspect, Elevation, NDVI, Distance to road, Distance to residential area, Land use, Temperature, Wind speed, Rainfall and forest fire occurrence. The motivation behind this work is to predict the forest fire to provide better way of management for this tragedy. In this research work a relationship is being established between forest fire causing factors and forest fire occurrence using historical data. The used database is already existing data of 540 historical locations of Vietnam. Experiments are conducted on different data partitions of availed data with different activation functions. On the basis of accuracy of model, sigmoid function found to be best and suggested to be used further for forest fire prediction.

Abstract

Late Blight in potato is caused by the oomycete pathogen Phytophthora infestans. It is known as community disease due to its ability to spread rapidly. It has caused huge economic losses. International Potato Center(CIP) has made a global estimate of Late Blight damage in developing countries based on an average production loss of 15%. The proposed paper tends to find a relationship between weather parameters and manifestation of Late Blight using machine learning approach. The disease manifestation is predicted using artificial neural network and classified on the basis of disease severity. The architecture of network is of feedforward type and standard backpropogation algorithm is used for learning. The weather parameters considered in the study are-maximum temperature, minimum temperature, maximum humidity, minimum humidity, and rainfall. The database used in the thesis is compiled from the data used for AICRP on Potato. Being the maiden venture in the domain of crop disease prediction using ANN, the basic spade work of the data organization and representation was performed. Later on a suitable architecture and activation function were identified. The prediction accuracy of 90. 9% was achieved.

48. Insulin glargine as add-on therapy to oral hypoglycaemic agents to achieve target fasting plasma glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients in an Indian setup

Abstract

Background: Optimal dosing of basal insulin is needed to achieve target fasting plasma glucose and to avoid hypoglycemia on the other hand in patients of type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on oral hypoglycemic agents. The present study evaluated the efficacy of addition of basal insulin, insulin glargine to a combination of sulfonylureas and metformin, in inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes patients over a 12-week period. Methodology: This is a prospective study done in 40 type 2 diabetics having uncontrolled diabetes as evidenced by fasting plasma glucose > 140 mg/dL and HbA1c > 8%. Patients were started on insulin glargine 10 units at bed time and uptitrated as per plasma glucose values performed weekly and once euglycemia was achieved, fortnightly monitoring was performed. The fasting plasma glucose values were compared at 12 weeks with the baseline. Results: Average age of the study population was 56.35 ± 6.77 years with duration of diabetes being 11.68 ± 5.70 years. At presentation, the average fasting and postprandial plasma glucose values were 318.55 ± 75.01 and 378.9 ± 76.29 mg/dL, respectively. At 12 weeks, the average fasting and postprandial plasma glucose values were 115.6 ± 11.1 mg/dL and 188 ± 15.2 mg/dL respectively. Average dose requirement of insulin glargine was 33.55 ± 11.94 units. The average insulin glargine dose requirement per kilogram body weight was 0.48 ± 0.17 units/kg body weight. The range of insulin dose was 0.23–0.96 units/kg body weight. Conclusion: Bedtime basal insulin in form of insulin glargine is effective in achieving euglycemia in patients of type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled on oral hypoglycemic agents. Abstract

The composite alloy of Ti 0.32 Cr 0.43 V 0.25 with x wt% La (where x = 0–10) was prepared by arc melting technique. The effect on hydrogen storage capacity, flatness of the plateau pressure, and residual hydrogen was investigated in La added Ti 0.32 Cr 0.43 V 0.25 . Crystalline phase and microstructure of the prepared composite alloy were investigated and characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM. The crystal structure was refinement using Rietveld analysis. The effective hydrogen storage capacity of the composite alloy was found comparable to the parent alloy, when 5 wt% La was added. The effective hydrogen capacity (∼2.31 wt%) was close to that of the parent alloy (2.35 wt%) and the plateau slope was significantly improved from 30.5 of the parent alloy to 14.6. Appropriate mechanisms associated with the improved flatness by the La addition has been discussed in terms of the refined crystalline structure. Using TG/DTA method we have shown the differences in the interaction of residual hydrogen with the BCC phase of both parent alloy and 5 wt % La mixed alloy.

An ideal I is a family of subsets of positive integers N which is closed under taking finite unions and subsets of its elements. In this article we introduce ideal convergent sequence spaces using Zweier transform and Orlicz function. We study some topological and algebraic properties. Further we prove some inclusion relations related to these new spaces.
