Indigenous and traditional peoples, practitioners and researchers navigate complex social ecological landscapes. The importance of dialogue across cultures, languages, disciplines, and forms of knowledge is increasingly recognised as needed in landscape restoration and environmental governance at multiple scales. A process called adaptive doing was used in two workshops in South Kalimantan Province, followed by remote collaboration among team members in Indonesia and Australia. Examining the breadth of differences in culture, language and knowledge, and recognising assumptions and disciplinary training, enabled each participant to develop a shared understanding of tropical peatswamp forest restoration and fires. The shared understanding extended beyond each participant's original conception and provided a collective vision that brought together the different knowledges, cultural and disciplinary backgrounds, while acting as a point of orientation for the work and purpose within a research project. The experience gained through adaptive doing has led to important collaborative changes in the project and can support future interdisciplinary teams to achieve collaborative practice change and a shared understanding of context.

The technologies for rigless electric submersible pump (ESP) deployment were introduced in the oil industry to reduce expenditure during ESP replacement. Most of the technology is used to avoid rig utilization, which will reduce significant cost and safety risk during operations. At the same time, production restoration will be faster since some wellsite job preparation, such as for flowline strip-out and re-manifold, can be eliminated. The new cable rigless deployed ESP system was successfully deployed and put on stream for the first time worldwide. The system has a unique concept and components, which consist of a specially designed cable hanger and coiled tubing. The cable hanger design offers cable isolation while providing a nonrestricted flow through the flow path built into the body of spool. The coiled tubing was manufactured to have resistance to H2S and CO2 as well as for isolating the cable from any corrosive fluid from the well. Part of the technology assessment was to ensure the system should be able to retrieve and redeploy riglessly. A rigless job successfully retrieved and reinstalled the ESP after the pump had been on operation for more than 2 years. The most challenging operation is the killing procedure since the operation deals with high fluid losses while the gas from the well can be released at any time. Job preparation is key for success during retrieval activities, which involve a special study to find the proper kill fluid selection to control the well during activities. The kill fluid should be able to pump through the ESP, which is nondamaging for the formation and provides adequate weight to control the pressure and fluid losses. This paper will share the experience from concept, design, field implementation planning and technical challenges, and lessons learned during preparation and installation.

The agroforestry system has been widely presented as a model for land management to restore ecosystem function and, at the same time, increase people’s income. The land cultivation system by combining forestry plants with agricultural crops is expected to attract people’s interest to adopt and carry out planting on a wider scale. This paper aims to examine the development of agroforestry products in supporting peatland restoration and food security, as a lesson learned from South Sumatra. Field observation and stakeholder interviews were conducted to collect data to be analyzed descriptively. The result revealed that a relatively adaptive forestry plant that was developed on peatlands could produce timber and non-timber forest products. The community developed agroforestry system as their source on income and at the same tima can support peatland restoration. Unfortunately, the market of a certain product is currently unavailable. In addition, for other types of crops, the price will drop during the harvest season, making them less profitable. Therefore, diversification of products is needed as a solution for the community. In the future, the types of plants that are developed on peatlands must have prospective market access to benefit the community and improve the welfare of the people.

There has been a dramatical change in Indonesia’s tropical peatland ecosystem in the last three decades due to various causes and climate change issues. This decreases the function of peatland ecosystem to support ecosystem balance and the rural livelihoods, including influencing the food systems. This paper highlights the prospects of food security in the changed and degraded peatland landscape in South Sumatra. A case field study was conducted in this research, followed by qualitative analysis. Peatland degradation, mainly from peatland conversion, illegal logging, and recurrent fires, lead to the decline of food availability from the peatland, such as, fish, honey bee, vegetable, and fruit. To deal with, several field actions are taken: (1) Local initiative in vegetable and fruit production on degraded peatland; (2) Government initiative in developing rice fields as part of food estate program; (3) Community, non-government organization (NGO) and government collaboration in introducing adaptive and prospective agroforestry. More prospective food security on the peatland can be achieved through the commodity diversification, improvement of the techniques, infrastructures, market access, and capacity of rural community. Harmonizing the policies between peatland management and food estate potentially can improve food security in tropical peatland landscape in Indonesia.

Tropical peatland in Indonesia experiences massive degradation due to the high pressures of anthropogenic ventures that triggered the disaster, which calls for peatland restoration. This restoration requires comprehensive knowledge in designing and transforming appropriate policy and has become a challenging part of peatland restoration. This research discusses the insights from stakeholders concerning knowledge management to support the policy and strategy of Indonesia’s peatland restoration. The survey was conducted on 72 respondents. Most of the respondents (95.8%) know about the existing tropical peatland in Indonesia. Respondents also elaborated on various sources of peatland knowledge through (1) online scientific search engine; (2) discussion and interview; (3) workshop and conference; (4) observation and experience. We found that 81.9% of respondents have a basic understanding of knowledge management, and 94.4% of respondents agree on the role of social media in knowledge management. Respondents highlighted some points for building knowledge management, including sharing knowledge mechanisms, exploring local knowledge, organizing knowledge, and building an informative platform. Collaboration work is the key in the digital era for this context. Utilizing social media would be an attractive package to shape the policy and strategy in raising public awareness, building networks, and improving sharing knowledge mechanisms.

Urban green open space area is one of the strategies to deal with climate change mitigation and adaptation issues. As one of the relevant exemplifications of the “Urban Forest” concept and sustainable urban development, legal control of urban green open space is necessary to support the effort. This study examines urban green open space policies, practices, opportunities, and challenges in Bogor city regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation. Furthermore, local regulations, including legal issues, key players, and their roles in urban forest management were also discussed. A desk study with descriptive exploratory was implemented in this paper. The results showed that there are challenges in the implementation of urban green open space area policies into urban forest practices. The land size allocation for urban forests in Bogor, West Java, is still not by the existing policies as their land size is far less than 30%. Moreover, most local regulations have relatively paid little attention to private property policy. Local governments can enact local regulations for technical guidelines in short-term strategy as local regulations are expected to support the regional level of urban forests and green open space development. Multi stakeholders’ cooperation and community engagement are potential initiatives for urban forest development at the local government level for climate change resilience.

The importance of intersectoral collaboration in policy implementation has been widely accepted. Concepts of intersectoral collaboration and policy coordination are theoretically appealing; however, it is challenging to implement in practice, including in forest fire management. This paper aims to map the institutions on forest fire management and analyze the rationality in using knowledge in their duties and authorities. Using stakeholder mapping combined with the Concern-Knowledge-Action approach, this study is conducted at the national level in Indonesia, and takes two sub-national levels, South Sumatera and Central Kalimantan, as the case study. There are many institutions involved in fire management in all governance levels, including at the provincial-district level, as well as at the sub-district-village level, but the institutional fragmentation in peat fire management is still found. In managing fire in South Sumatera and Central Kalimantan, it is not handled by a specific institution having the most influential and important positions. They have different authorities but the same potential power to prevent and combat fire. A complex interconnection among them indicates the need for effective institution integration. Less connectivity among the knowledge pool is also found, especially between private – community, NGO – academia, and government – community. Finally, knowledge improvement on fire prevention method especially in defining a community livelihood offset, as well as the ex-post fire management (measuring the level of fire impact and its recovery methods) is needed to fill the gap of knowledge. A stakeholder Forum is one of the options to improve intersectoral coordination in managing forest fire in peatland and enhance the effectiveness of knowledge sharing. At community level, conducting informal discussion and capacity-building programs would be feasible options for better coordination and improving knowledge.

Restoration of degraded peatland has proven to be complex and many activities that have been initiated in recent years have not had a significant impacted on restoring peatland condition. Revitalization activities that have been carried out in several locations have not been effective. Likewise, rewetting actions were often poorly understood by the community. This research aimed to analyze land use-based peatland restoration opportunities and challenges in Kayu Labu village, South Sumatra. Survey methods and interviews with the stakeholders were applied to collect primary data in the field. The results showed that although Kayu Labu has been designated as one of the focus villages for restoration by the Peatland Restoration Agency, the restoration efforts to date have not significantly impacted on people’s lives. The community has not widely known the implementation of the programs, and only those who were directly involved in the activities were aware of the peatland restoration program. Several opportunities are available to support the implementation of land use-based peatland restoration in Kayu Labu: the community has a strong willingness and commitment to restore their peatlands because they have suffered badly from peatland fires in the past. The community also acknowledges the loss of their livelihoods due to peatland degradation, especially for purun craftsmen, gelam collectors, and fishers. There are also opportunities from government and research programs to be implemented in this area to support peatland restoration. However, there are still challenges that must be faced: the increasingly massive expansion of oil palm plantations by clearing the peatlands, the lack of knowledge about peatland, and there is a general feeling from the community that without peatland their lives would be better off because they could grow diverse crops with higher yields. Therefore, capacity building, communication and knowledge enhancement, and partnerships are needed for the success of land use-based peatland restoration in Kayu Labu.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a deadly disease that is transmitted through mosquito bites from the genus Aedes especially Aedes aegypti, Aedes aegypti can occur every year and affect any age. DHF has a high case fatality rate (CFR). Therefore we need a method that can detect CFR of DHF in Indonesia, one of which is the decision tree classification based on C4.5 and C5.0 algorithm. C4.5 and C5.0 algorithm starting with forming a root node and ending with a leaf node by evaluating attributes using information gain to measure the effect of attributes in classifying a dataset. In this article, an applied research is carried out, namely applying the decision tree classification with C5.0 and C4.5 algorithm based on R software to detect CFR of DHF in Indonesia. The attributes used are the incidence rate (IR), population density, many hospitals, and many medical personnel. The results show that C5.0 algorithm has a big error than the C4.5 algorithm, while the C5.0 algorithm has a smaller tree than the C4.5 algorithm.

Summary With the growth of Internet of Things technology and the industrial revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), digital information is becoming more integrated into our daily operations. Such a modality of operation allows all disciplines in an organization to collaboratively manage and operate their assets to achieve the maximum value of those assets. In this paper, we describe one of the initiatives under the company's digital transformation strategy. It is a simple yet innovative application of advanced process control (APC) that facilitates continuous optimization of the performance of electrical submersible pumps (ESPs), not only to comply with the assigned production targets but also to automatically meet the operational constraints. The successful implementation of this technology on multiple oil wells in an onshore oil field has demonstrated significant power savings of 10 to 20%, and is expected to minimize premature failures and extend pump life.

The oil industry has been for many years, growing and innovating technology over time. Economic cost is the main driver for changes that occur in our industry and the need to overcome a variety of challenges from reservoir to production to have a profitable well. Saudi Aramco as one of the largest operators worldwide have several fields that run completely on artificial lift, mainly ESPs, to produce. These ESPs are known to be prone to wear and tear, requiring replacement every few years. Conventionally through the use of a workover rig, these ESP and upper completion are replaced every so often. In recent years, the decline of the oil prices worldwide has cited the need to reduce capital & operational expenses to maximize the profitability in our economic analysis. Saudi Aramco, as a lead oil & gas operator is paving the way in alternative deployments method of ESP completion. This paper details Saudi Aramco’s successful deployment and qualification of a high rate, slim design alternative deployed ESP system. As part of the qualification criteria the system was successfully installed, removed and reinstalled three times over a six month period on slick-line.

Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) is very popular artificial lift systems to boost oil production now days. Home ofmany ESP installations, with high frequency of change outs per year and with the harsh production environment, a development of ESP technologies to reduce change-out time and improve run life is keep ongoing. These technologies address business challenges timely in a proactive approach. Currently deployed ESPs require a time-consuming rig installation on jointed tubing. With several factors such as: an average run life of three years for ESPs, a rig-based change-out time of up to two weeks offshore, and an uncertainty of when a rig can be scheduled; the need for a more rapid rigless solution is critical for future operations. Majority of the ESP installation are completed as part of tubing completion and deployed by drilling rig which requires high spending to recover the well during ESP replacement. Several types of technologies to deploy ESP rig-lessly were introduced into industry to optimize the retrieval and deployment cost during ESP replacement. Limited success story was recorded and open more thought to overcome the challenges. The first worldwide new reliable cable rigless deployed electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system was successfully installed and put on production. What makes this system unique concept and the first worldwide of its kind are two main components. The first component is the innovative cable hanger design that insures total cable isolation while providing a non-restricted flow through the tubes that are built into the body of the spool. The second component is the specially designed and manufactured CT from selected material that has high resistance to H2S and CO2 and it was made exactly fit the ESP cable providing full protection from corrosive wellbore fluid. This design aimed to boost production of oil wells with lower ESPs installation and replacement cost. The new system eliminates the need for and expensive rig to replace the ESP and accelerate production restoration. This system will be a great addition especially for offshore environments where not only the rig intervention costs are expensive, but also limited rig availability can delay ESP replacement. This paper will share the concept, design, field implementation planning and technical challenges, lesson learnt during preparation and installation of this first of kind system.

Downhole gauges for ESP systems typically use the motor power cable for communicating data to surface. This type of gauge technology, also known as “Comms on power,” has been in use for many years and has become a reliable method for monitoring pump and well performance. Downhole data acquisition also delivers benefits in reservoir management where continuous data from the well is required. Any loss of this downhole data has a significant impact to accurately understanding the well performance and reservoir recovery. Current gauge technology is susceptible to problems when the insulation on the motor cable ages or is damaged. This means that the gauge signal will be lost when a ground fault occurs, even if the ESP motor continues to drive the pump and the gauge itself is undamaged. Current ESP gauges also typically provided slower data rates than permanent gauges that have dedicated instrument lines to surface. In such situations there are two options to recover the downhole data; conventional data acquisition using wireline or workover to repair the ground fault. Both required additional operational cost. Furthermore, any opportunities to obtain improved ESP monitoring and continuous data acquisition for reservoir management are gone. Saudi Aramco has been engaged in several years of technology trials carried out in Saudi Arabia leading to a successful field trial of a new downhole sensor system. Saudi Aramco's drive for continuous data when the ESP has experienced a ground fault has been the catalyst for the support given to this system. The system was installed in April 2013 in the Khurais field and is currently still running today — the system was confirmed to be fully functional in ground fault conditions. This paper presents the new technology, the history of trails and the installation, outlining the potential for future use.

The indicator of region economic success can be measured by economic growth, presented by value of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). Java island has the biggest GDP contribution toward the Indonesian government, but not all of the region gives equality contribution. The C4.5, CHAID, and CART methods can be used for classifying the status of the region with nonparametric approach. The C4.5 and CHAID methods are non-binary decision tree, meanwhile the CART methods is binary decision tree. The purposes of this paper are to know how the classification and to determine the factors that influence on classification of the region. The dependent variable is status of the region which is divided into four categories based on Klassen typology. The result shows factors that have the biggest contribution on classification of status of the region on Java island based on C4.5 method are economic growth rate, electricity, gas, and water sector, and area. The factors that have the biggest contribution based on CHAID method are growth rate, manufacturing sector, and electricity, gas, and water sector, while based on CART method are growth rate, manufacturing sector, and electricity, gas, and water sector.
