Abstract: Unstable 10C nuclei are produced as quasi-projectiles in 12C+24Mg collisions at E/A = 53 and 95 MeV. The decay of their short-lived states is studied with the INDRA multidetector array via multi-particle correlation functions. The obtained results show that heavy-ion collisions can be used as a tool to access spectroscopic information of unbound states in exotic nuclei, such as their energies and the relative importance of different sequential decay widths., Comment: 8 figures, accepted for publication in Nuclear Physics A

Abstract: We study the anisotropy effects measured with INDRA at GSI in central collisions of Xe+Sn at 50 A.MeV and Au+Au at 60, 80, 100 A.MeV incident energy. The microcanonical multifragmentation model with non-spherical sources is used to simulate an incomplete shape relaxation of the multifragmenting system. This model is employed to interpret observed anisotropic distributions in the fragment size and mean kinetic energy. The data can be well reproduced if an expanding prolate source aligned along the beam direction is assumed. An either non-Hubblean or non-isotropic radial expansion is required to describe the fragment kinetic energies and their anisotropy. The qualitative similarity of the results for the studied reactions suggests that the concept of a longitudinally elongated freeze-out configuration is generally applicable for central collisions of heavy systems. Abstract: We analyzed the $^{93}Nb$ on $^{nat}Mg$ reaction at 30 MeV/nucleon in the aim of disentangling binary sequential decay and multifragmentation decay close to the energy threshold, i.e. $\simeq 3$ MeV/nucleon. Using the backtracing technique applied to the statistical models GEMINI and SMM we reconstruct simulated charge, mass and excitation energy distributions and compare them to the experimental ones. We show that data are better described by SMM than by GEMINI in agreement with the fact that multifragmentation is responsible for fragment production at excitation energies around 3 MeV/nucleon., 16 pages, 12 figures, 5 tables Soumis \`a Nuclear Physics A

Abstract: Kinetic energy spectra and fragment velocity correlations, simulated by means of stochastic mean-field calculations, are successfully confronted with experimental data for single multifragmenting sources prepared at the same excitation energy per nucleon in 32 AMeV 129Xe+natSn and 36 AMeV 155Gd+natU central collisions. Relying thus on simulations, average freeze-out times of 200-240 fm/c are estimated The corresponding spatial distributions of fragments are more compact for the lighter system (~3-4V\_0 vs ~8V\_0)., 20 pages; 9 figures; To be published in Nuclear Physics A

Abstract: Bimodality has been observed on the asymmetry between the charges of the two heaviest products resulting from the decay of the QP released in peripheral Xe+Sn and Au+Au collisions from 60 to 100 MeV/u. Bimodality is observed for intermediate impact parameters for which the quasi-projectile is clearly identified. The two event families correspond to different excitation energies as it is expected in a first order phase transition picture. It seems that the relevant parameter which governs the phenomenon is the dissipated energy per nucleon. It is also shown that it is possible to correlate the bimodality signal with the negative heat capacity and the Delta scaling. All together, this set of data is coherent with a liquid-gas phase transition of finite pieces of nuclear matter.

Abstract: The nucleus-nucleus Lie`ge intranuclear-cascade+percolation+evaporation model has been applied to the 12 C+ 197 Au data measured by the INDRA-ALADIN collaboration at GSI. After the intranuclear cascade stage, the data are better reproduced when using the Statistical Multiframentation Model as afterburner. Further checks of the model are done on data from the EOS and KAOS collaborations.

Abstract: An efficient method of energy scale calibration for the CsI(Tl) modules of the INDRA multidetector (rings 6–12) using elastic and inelastic 12C+1H scattering at E(12C)=30MeV per nucleon is presented. Background-free spectra for the binary channels are generated by requiring the coincident detection of the light and heavy ejectiles. The gain parameter of the calibration curve is obtained by fitting the proton total charge spectra to the spectra predicted with Monte-Carlo simulations using tabulated cross section data. The method has been applied in multifragmentation experiments with INDRA at GSI.

Abstract: International audience; Recent important progress on the knowledge of multifragmentation and phase transition for hot nuclei, thanks to the high detection quality of the INDRA array, is reported. It concerns i) the radial collective energies involved in hot fragmenting nuclei/sources produced in central and semi-peripheral collisions and their influence on the observed fragment partitions, ii) a better knowledge of freeze-out properties obtained by means of a simulation based on all the available experimental information and iii) the quantitative study of the bimodal behaviour of the heaviest fragment distribution for fragmenting hot heavy quasi-projectiles which allows the extraction, for the first time, of an estimate of the latent heat of the phase transition.

Abstract: Matière Nucléaire; International audience; The prompt component at intermediate velocity of light charged particles is investigated. An improved coalescence model coupled to the intra-nuclear cascade code ISABEL is used to obtain light complex particle energy spectra and multiplicities as a function of impact parameter. The results are compared with experimental data from the 36Ar + 58Ni experiment at 95 MeV/nucleon, performed with the INDRA 4π detection system. The calculated prompt component is found to rather well reproduce proton spectra. For complex light charged particles the calculated components well populate the high energy part of spectra. Prompt emission can therefore explain the large transverse energies experimentally observed at mid-rapidity.

Abstract: Matière Nucléaire, GANIL E209, GANIL E210; International audience; Reaction mechanisms have been studied for two nearly symmetrical systems of different total mass, between 25 and 74 AMeV. It is shown that collisions are mostly binary whatever the system mass and the bombarding energy. From the slowing-down of the partners, it is possible to establish the continuous evolution from quasielastic to (completely) damped collisions. It turns out that results are independent of the total system mass if involved energies are expressed in AMeV. The occurrence of mid-rapidity emission is also considered and may be used to establish a link between mechanisms observed at low and high bombarding energy. Part of it corresponds to a fast decay of outgoing partners.

Abstract: Multifragmentation properties measured with INDRA are studied for single sources produced in Xe+Sn reactions in the incident energy range 32-50 A MeV and quasiprojectiles from Au+Au collisions at 80 A MeV. A comparison for both types of sources is presented concerning Fisher scaling, Zipf law, fragment size and fluctuation observables. A Fisher scaling is observed for all the data. The pseudo-critical energies extracted from the Fisher scaling are consistent between Xe+Sn central collisions and Au quasi-projectiles. In the latter case it also corresponds to the energy region at which fluctuations are maximal. Abstract: We propose a new kind of X-rays detector based on a low pressure multistep gaseous detector coupled to a microchannel plate acting as X-rays → electrons converter. Efficiency of 1.2% has been obtained with a photon energy of 60 keV. The utilisation of the detector in X-ray imaging allowed us to measure a spatial resolution of 0.7 mm.

Abstract: Isotopic effects in spectator fragmentations following heavy-ion collisions at relativistic energies are investigated using data from recent exclusive experiments with SIS beams at GSI. Reactions of 12C on 112,124Sn at incident energies 300 and 600 MeV per nucleon were studied with the INDRA multidetector while the fragmentation of stable 124Sn and radioactive 107Sn and 124La projectiles was studied with the ALADIN spectrometer. The global characteristics of the reactions are very similar. This includes the rise and fall of fragment production and deduced observables as, e.g., the breakup temperature obtained from double ratios of isotope yields. The mass distributions depend strongly on the neutron-to-proton ratio of the decaying system, as expected for a simultaneous statistical breakup. The ratios of light-isotope yields from neutron-rich and neutron-poor systems follow the law of isoscaling. The deduced scaling parameters decrease strongly with increasing centrality to values smaller than 50% of those obtained for the peripheral event groups. This is not compensated by an equivalent rise of the breakup temperatures which suggests a reduction of the symmetry term required in a liquid-drop description of the fragments at freeze-out., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, invited talk at IX International Conference on Nucleus Nucleus Collisions, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil August 28 - September 1, 2006

Abstract: A 4 pi charged particle detector array with a low velocity threshold has been used to detect the products from reactions induced by Ar-36 on Al-27 at energies ranging from 55 to 95 MeV/u. Well characterized events were selected and sorted as a function of the impact parameter. Two methods were used for sorting these events with respect to their impact parameters and three methods were compared to determine the reaction plane. The transverse momentum analysis has been found to be the best method to extract the direction of the reaction plane for this system and for the experimental set-up used here. The energy of vanishing flow for central collisions has been found to be around 90-95 MeV/u. The azimuthal distributions of mid-rapidity particles exhibit a preferential in-plane emission and no squeeze-out effect.

Abstract: Formation and decay of hot nuclei have been studied in Zn-64 + Ti-nat collisions between 35 and 79 MeV/nucleon. The mass and excitation energy of excited quasiprojectiles are reconstructed from the kinematical characteristics of their decay products. In central collisions, excitation energies larger than 10 MeV/nucleon are reached. Comparisons with theoretical predictions indicate that a fraction of the excitation energy is associated with an isotropic radial flow.

Abstract: Sideward flow values have been determined with the INDRA multidetector for Ar+Ni, Ni+Ni and Xe+Sn systems studied at GANIL in the 30 to 100 A.MeV incident energy range. The balance energies found for Ar+Ni and Ni+Ni systems are in agreement with previous experimental results and theoretical calculations. Negative sideward flow values have been measured. The possible origins of such negative values are discussed. They could result from a more important contribution of evaporated particles with respect to the contribution of promptly emitted particles at mid-rapidity. But effects induced by the methods used to reconstruct the reaction plane cannot be totally excluded. Complete tests of these methods are presented and the origins of the ``auto-correlation'' effect have been traced back. For heavy fragments, the observed negative flow values seem to be mainly due to the reaction plane reconstruction methods. For light charged particles, these negative values could result from the dynamics of the collisions and from the reaction plane reconstruction methods as well. These effects have to be taken into account when comparisons with theoretical calculations are done., Comment: 27 pages, 15 figures
