A questionnaire was sent to 753 randomly selected nurses in September 2010.Results: Of the 453 (60%) responding nurses, 265 (58%) were aware that nurses were included in the reporting of adverse drug reactions. Sixty-one nurses (14%) stated that they had reported an adverse drug reaction. Fifteen percent (n = 70) of the respondents had received training about reporting of adverse drug reactions. Almost one third of these (n = 21, 30%) had reported an adverse drug reaction on at least one occasion. Among nurses without training, a smaller proportion (n = 40, 11%, P < 0.05) had reported an adverse drug reaction on at least one occasion. The two factors considered most important by nurses for reporting were the severity of the adverse drug reaction and if the reaction was to a newly approved drug. A majority of the nurses (n = 397, 88%) were interested in a training course in pharmacology as part of their ongoing professional development. One third (32%) of all nurses stated that one reason for not reporting a suspected adverse drug reaction was that the physician responsible did not regard the reaction necessary to report.Conclusion: We found that more than half of the study population of nurses in Sweden were aware of their new role as reporters of adverse drug reactions, but few of the responding nurses had reported an adverse drug reaction. Given that training seems to be associated with high reporting frequency, we suggest more training in pharmacovigilance for nurses.Keywords: adverse drug reporting systems, nurses, knowledge

High-speed machining of thin-walled structures is widely used in the aeronautical industry. Higher spindle speed and machining feed rate, combined with a greater depth of cut, increases the removal rate and with it, productivity. The combination of higher spindle speed and depth of cut makes instabilities (chatter) a far more significant concern. Chatter causes reduced surface quality and accelerated tool wear. Since chatter is so prevalent, traditional cutting parameters and processes are frequently rendered ineffective and inaccurate. For the machine tool to reach its full utility, the chatter vibrations must be identified and avoided. In order to avoid chatter and implement optimum cutting parameters, the machine tool including all components and the work piece must be dynamically mapped to identify vibration characteristics. The aim of the presented work is to develop a model for the prediction of stability limits as a function of process parameters. The model consists of experimentally measured vibration properties of the spindle-tool, and finite element calculations of the work piece in (three) different stages of the process. Commercial software packages used for integration into the model prove to accomplish demands for functionality and performance. A reference geometry that is typical for an aircraft detail is used for evaluation of the prediction methodology. In order to validate the model, the stability limits predicted by the use of numerical simulation are compared with the results based on the experimental work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Study 1 (N= 203) the factor structure of a Swedish translation of Pacini and Epstein's Rational-Experiential Inventory (REI-40) was investigated using confirmatory factor analysis. The hypothesized model with rationality and experientiality as orthogonal factors had satisfactory fit to the data, significantly better than alternative models (with two correlated factors or a single factor). Inclusion of 'ability' and 'favorability' subscales for rationality and experientiality increased fit further. It was concluded that the structural validity of the REI is adequate. In Study 2 (N= 72) the REI-factors were shown to have theoretically meaningful correlations to other personality traits, indicating convergent and discriminant validity. Finally, scores on the rationality scale were negatively related to risky choice framing effects in Kahneman and Tversky's Asian disease task, indicating concurrent validity. On the basis of these findings it was concluded that the test has satisfactory psychometric properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
