This study aims to determine the nutrients of some green plants and their anti-methanogenic potentials with in vitro gas production techniques. For this purpose, lettuce, purslane, sorrel, parsley, dill, cress, and mint plants were examined. The highest dry matter was found in the dill plant with 21.78% and the lowest in the lettuce plant with 7.24%. The average protein of the plants was found to be 30.58%. The highest net gas production was observed in the sorrel plant with 66.66, the lowest value in the purslane 27.66. In this study, it was determined that the purslane plant showed high anti-methanogenic properties. Broccoli, celery, mint, leek, lettuce, green onion, dill and parsley showed moderate anti-methanogenic properties; Chard, sorrel, cress and spinach showed low anti-methanogenic properties. The anti-methanogenic potentials of plants were determined entirely. However, it must be determined with in vivo experiments., Bu çalışmada amaç, bazı yeşil bitkilerin besin maddelerinin belirlenmesi ve in vitro gaz üretim tekniği kullanılarak anti-metanojenik potansiyellerini belirlemektir. Bu amaçla marul, semizotu, kuzukulağı, maydanoz, dereotu, tere ve nane bitkileri kullanılmıştır. Bitkilerin kuru madde içerikleri en yüksek %21.78 ile dereotu bitkisinde en düşük ise marul bitkisinde %7.24 bulunmuştur. Bitkilerin ortalama protein değeri %30.58 bulunmuştur. Bitkiler arasında net gaz miktarları bakımından en yüksek değer %66.66 ile kuzukulağı bitkisinde, en düşük %27.66 semizotundan gözlemlenmiştir. Çalışmada semizotu bitkisinin yüksek anti-metanojenik özellik gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Nane, marul, dereotu ve maydanoz orta düzeyde anti-metanojenik özellik göstermiş; kuzukulağı ve tere ise düşük anti-metanojenik özellik göstermiştir. Ancak anti-metanojenik potansiyelin tam olarak belirlenmesi için in vivo denemelerle belirlenmesi de gerekmektedir.

Published by CSIRO Publishing.Context: In recent years, microalgae have been used in the diet to improve the quality of animal products due to their oil content and quality, but determining the optimum dose is very important to prevent some fermentation and economic losses in animal production. Aims: The study investigated the effects of microalga (DHA-gold) supplementation in the diet at different levels in in vitro ruminal biohydrogenation and fermentation. Methods: The treatments were control (no additional oil, forage:concentrate ratio 60:40 on a dry-matter (DM) basis) or the addition of 1%, 2%, and 3% of microalga in the diet on a DM basis. Four rumen-cannulated goats were used as donors for the in vitro experiment. The treatments were incubated using a batch culture technique, and the fatty acid profile and fermentation parameters were determined after 0, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h. Key results: Total conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), cis-9, trans-11 CLA and trans-11 C18:1 fatty acids increased with supplementation of microalgae. The 24-h biohydrogenation rate of unsaturated fatty acids varied between 61% and 98%. In addition, the highest CLA content was obtained from the 3% algae group. Biohydrogenation of C18:3, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) fatty acids was decreased with the 2% microalga supplementation. The microalga supplementation had no effect on ruminal pH, ruminal acetate, propionate, and butyrate proportions, or the acetate:propionate ratio. Conclusion: Under the current in vitro study conditions, 2% microalga supplementation to diet increased the ruminal biohydrogenation intermediate products, such as total CLA and trans-11 C18:1 fatty acid and decreased the ruminal biohydrogenation ratio of n-3 fatty acids (C18:3, EPA, and DHA). Implications: Increasing the bioactive and beneficial fatty acids (e.g. CLAs) that are absorbed in the rumen by ruminants and then transferred to animal products (meat, milk) is important. From the results of this in vitro study, dietary microalga increased the ruminal CLA, C18:3, EPA, and DHA concentrations. However, dietary fat level should be evaluated in terms of improving an animal's performance (growth rate, digestibility, milk yield, carcass, and milk quality).

All rights reserved.This study was conducted to determine the effects of dried mulberry (Morus alba) pulp with high water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content on the nutrient substance composition, pH and silage acids of alfalfa silage. The alfalfa used in the study was harvested in the 10% flowering period and ensiled by mixing with dried mulberry pulp at different ratios (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5% and 15%). The alfalfa that was ensiled for three months was analyzed at the end of this period, and the values measured for the control and treatment groups were compared. As a result, it was determined that the addition of dried mulberry pulp at different ratios into alfalfa silage was effective on some properties of the silage. In the case of adding mulberry pulp at 5-7.5% into the silage, it was observed that the silage pH decreased, and the lactic acid ratio increased. This positive result shows that in alfalfa silage mulberry pulp may be used as an additive. Hence, it may be stated that it would be suitable to add 5-7.5% mulberry pulp to increase the quality in alfalfa silage.

Chitosan is a biodegradable, antimicrobial, antifungal polysaccharide, thus used as an additive in different industries. Effects of chitosan supplementations on silage quality traits of alfalfa were investigated in the present study. Chitosan was supplemented into alfalfa silages at four different levels: 0% – CONT group; 0.5% – CHTS0.5 group; 1% – CHTS1.0 group; and 2% – CHTS2.0 group. Neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and neutral detergent insoluble crude protein (NDICP) values increase in CHTS 2.0 group (P < 0.05). Lactic acid and butyric acid contents decreased (P < 0.05), acetic and propionic acid contents increased with chitosan treatments. On the day of opening the silages, mould production was not encountered, and yeast production decreased in chitosan-supplemented groups. Excessive yeast production was encountered, but mould development was not seen in chitosan-supplemented groups 5 days after opening the silages. Silage pH values increased with chitosan treatments (P < 0.05). So, it can be concluded that chitosan negatively influenced fermentation quality of alfalfa silage, but reduced mould and clostridial development.

This study aimed to determine the effects of live yeast (LY) and essential oil (EO) on dairy cattle diets on performance and milk composition traits. A total of 120 multiparous (in 2nd and 3rd lactations) Holstein dairy cows were used and 30 animals were allocated to each treatment group. Treatment groups were as follows: 1) control, (C, without any supplementation), 2) herbal essential oil mixture addition (EO, 10 g/day/cattle) 3) live yeast, (LY, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, 10 g/day/cattle, 4x109 CFU/g) 4) EO+LY (10 g/day/cattle+10 g/day/cattle). Experiments were performed for 16 weeks. Bodyweight, milk yield, and feed conversion ratio were not influenced by the treatments. Milk fat increased with EO addition. Milk protein content decreased in the LY+EO group. Somatic cell counts (SCC) decreased significantly with EO addition. Milk lactose, casein, and density were not significantly influenced by the treatments. Milk urea concentration increased in the LY group. Milk-free fatty acids significantly increased in the EO group. Milk citric acid content increased in the LY group. The control (C) group had greater pentadecanoic acid (C15: 0) content than the other groups. The myristic acid ratio (C14: 0) of the C and EO groups was greater than the myristic acid ratio of the LY and LY+EO groups. Based on present findings, EO mixture supplementation to dairy cattle diets had positive effects on milk fat content and SCC.

The aim of this study is to determine the nutrient composition of the horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) seed and to determine the differences of these nutrients with some technological processes. For this purpose, the horse chestnut seed was divided into 3 groups as 1) raw, 2) soaking in cold water for 24 hours and 3) autoclaving at 121 °C for 60 minutes. The obtained groups were then analyzed under two groups as shelled and unshelled. The obtained data were analyzed in general linear model (GLM). As a result, the effect of the treatments applied on horse chestnut seed on dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), Ether extract (EE), crude ash (CA), cellulose fractions and metabolic energy values were insignificant, while the tannin ratio decreased significantly in the autoclaved group. When horse chestnut seeds are compared with shell and without shell; while the content of DM, CP, EE and CA did not change, the starch content increased, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and hemicellulose contents decreased in the shell less horse chestnut seed. The tannin ratio was significantly lower in the shelled horse chestnut. In addition, as a result of mineral analysis of raw horse chestnut, P, K, Ca, Na, Cl, Si, Al, Ni, Cr, Rb, Zn, Fe, Mg and S contents were; 0.257%, 1.106%, 0.27%, 0.146%, 0.061%, 0.055%, 0.023%, 0.016%, 0.005%, 0.003%, 0.006%, 0.08%, 0.056% and 0.117%, respectively. The technological processes applied were effective in reducing the tannins content, or can be used without shell for the purpose of reducing the tannins content., Bu çalışmada atkestanesi (Aesculus indica) tohumunun besin madde kompozisyonunu belirlemek ve yapılan bazı ön işlemlerin besin maddelerine etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla atkestanesi tohumunun1) ham hali, 2) soğuk suda 24 saat ıslatılması ve 3) 121°C’de 60 dk otoklav edilmesi şeklinde 3 gruba ayrılmıştır. Elde edilen gruplar daha sonra kabuklu ve kabuksuz olarak iki grup altında analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler general lineer modelde (GLM) analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak atkestanesi tohumunda uygulanan işlemlerin kuru madde (KM), ham protein (HP), ham yağ (HY), ham kül (HK), selüloz fraksiyonları ve metabolik enerji değerlerine etkisi önemsiz bulunurken tanen oranı otoklav edilen grupta önemli derecede azalmıştır. Kabuklu ve kabuksuz atkestanesinde; KM, HP, HY ve HK oranının etkilenmediği, ancak kabuksuz atkestanesinde nişasta oranı artarken, ADF oranı önemli derecede azalmış, NDF oranı ise değişmemiştir. Tanen oranı ise kabuksuz atkestanesinde önemli derecede daha düşük bulunmuştur. Ayrıca ham atkestanesinin mineral madde içerikleri: P, K, Ca, Na, Cl, Si, Al, Ni,Cr, Rb, Zn, Fe, Mg ve S sırasıyla; %0.257, %1.106, %0.27, %0.146, %0.061, %0.055,%0.023, %0.016, %0.005, %0.003, %0.006, %0.08, %0.056 ve %0.117 olarak bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak uygulanan teknolojik işlemlerin anti-nutrisyonel bir faktör olan tanen içeriğinin azaltılmasında etkili olduğu veya tanen içeriğinin azlatılması amacıyla kabuksuz olarak da kullanılabileceği belirlenmiştir.

In this study, sterol composition (brassicasterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, β-Sitosterol and β-sitostanol) of the crude oils extracted from different parts (seed or fruit) of some medicinal and aromatic plants (fenugreek, fennel, coriander, black cumin and anise) was determined and two different methods used in sample preparation process were compared. In the first method, silyl derivatization process was applied and in the other method derivatizing agents were not used. It was determined that the oil levels of the samples ranged between 4.27 - 4.63% for fenugreek, 8.60 - 9.10% for fennel, 9.57 - 10.70% for coriander, 22.77 - 23.50% for black cumin and 11.10 - 11.50% for anise. In both methods, β- sitosterol was the major sterol compound for all oils. It was observed that lower sterol concentrations were recorded for the method performed using derivatizing agents. Brassicasterol was identified only in anise and fennel oils in the method performed without the derivatizing agents, while it was detected in only black cumin oil in the other method. According to literature, it was concluded that the derivatization process was more compatible., Bu çalışmada, bazı tıbbi ve aromatik bitkilerin (çemen, rezene, kişniş, çörek otu ve anason) sterol kompozisyonu (brassicasterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, β-Sitosterol and β-sitostanol) belirlenmiş ve numune hazırlama işleminde kullanılan iki farklı yöntem karşılaştırılmıştır. Numunelerin ham yağ oranlarının çemen için % 4,27 - 4,63, rezene için % 8,60 - 9,10, kişniş için % 9,57 - 10,70, çörek otu için % 22,77 - 23,50 ve anason için % 11,10 - 11,50 arasında değiştiği tespit edilmiştir. Her iki yöntemde de, sitosterol, tüm yağlar için major sterol bileşiği olarak tespit edilmiştir. Türevlendirme maddeleri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen yöntem için daha düşük sterol konsantrasyonlarının kaydedildiği görülmüştür. Brassicasterol, türevlendirme ajanları olmadan gerçekleştirilen yöntemde sadece anason ve rezene yağlarında tanımlanırken, diğer yöntemde sadece çörek otu yağında tespit edilmiştir. Literatüre göre, türevlendirme işleminin daha uyumlu olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary supplementation of dried distillers’ grain with soluble (DDGS) and yucca (Yucca schidigera) on broiler performance, intestinal viscosity, carcass traits, and marketing. A total of 360, 21-d-old male broiler chickens were divided into 4 groups as 1: Control (C, corn based diet, without DDGS and yucca (Y) supplementation), 2: DDGS (30%), 3: C + Y (120 mg/kg Yucca) and 4: DDGS (30%) + Y (120 mg/kg) with 6 replicates (15 chicks x 6 replicates). The study was performed between 21 to 42 days of age. As a result, there were no significant differences among the groups in terms of body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and mortality rate (P>0.05). The carcass traits and effects of different marketing type (whole sale or cutting parts) on profit were compared. A slight decrease was determined in group 4 in terms of leg quarter ratio to cold carcass weight and carcass yield. Ruminantlarrumende meydana gelen bir dizi sindirim olayları ile diğer çiftlikhayvanlarından kesin bir şeklide ayrılmaktadır. Rumende meydana gelen sindirimolayları mikroorganizma faaliyetleri ile gerçekleşmekte ve besin maddelerininsindirimi ile hayvanlardan verim elde edilmektedir. Ancak bu faaliyetlersonucunda istenmeyen bazı metabolitler oluşmakta ve bunlar besin madde kaybı veçevresel sorunlara neden olmaktadır. Yapılan güncel çalışmalarda hayvanlarınverimlerinin artırılması amacıyla rumende oluşan karbondioksit, metan vehidrojen sülfür gibi istenmeyen son ürünlerin azaltılması amaçlanmaktadır. Bunedenle bu durumdan sorumlu olan mikroorganizmaların modifiye veya manipüleedilmeye ihtiyaç olduğu düşünülmektedir. Son yıllarda bu amaçla yem katkı maddeleri,bitki sekonder metabolitleri kullanımı gibi hayvan besleme çalışmalarınınyanında defaunasyon ve genetik manipülasyon yöntemleri de kullanılmaktadır. Buçalışmada rumen mikroorganizmalarının manipüle edilmesinde kullanılan bazıyöntemler derlenmiştir.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of live yeast and essential oil addition to diet on performance and milk composition traits in dairy cattle. In our country and in the world, demand for organic products is increasing. Consumers generally prefer organically obtained products to be considered to be healthier than conventional products. Organically grown products are subjected to a number of certification procedures from the point of sale and are offered with organic certificates. For this reason it is expected that theoretically organic and conventionally produced herbal and animal products are derived from natural products, are not contaminated with heavy metals and pollutants, are distant from residues, have different microbial loads, are more delicious and nutritious. However, the advantages and disadvantages of these produced products must be demonstrated and compared with those obtained conventionally. In this sense, it is inadequate to have studies done. According to the results of this study, although significant chemical, sensory and microbiological differences were detected in organic and conventional animal products, it is not possible to obtain a clear result. However, when the results of the study are examined, it can be seen that when animal foods are obtained organically, they also emphasized that the ratio of meat fat and cholesterol is decreasing while it is higher in terms of mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids which are very important for nutrition. However, according to the sensory analysis results, it is pointed out that the taste is better in the animal products obtained organically. However, in many studies, some adverse effects on microorganism load were found in animal products obtained organically compared with those obtained conventionally. As a result, there is a need for more comparative research and a homogeneous comparison in the studies to be able to produce a clear picture.&nbsp

In the experiment, 40 Aleppo goats with a mean parity of 2.53 ± 0.8 (multiparous) and 25 ± 5 days in milk at the beginning of the experiment were used. The goats were selected from 200 of herd and experimental diet based on alfalfa hay (60%) and concentrate feeds (40%). Before the experiment began, the goats were fed a commercial diet for a 3-week adaptation period. In all experiment, goats were fed individually. The diets were offered ad libitum and clean water was always available with automatic waterers. The experimental periods were 12-weeks long, and the goats were milked daily at 08:00 and 18:00 h. The experiments were conducted during spring and summer (from May through the end of September). The individual milk subsamples were collected over 3 consecutive milking of the experimental period (per 3 day-totally 24 times). The individual milk samples were stored at 4ºC with a protective tablet (Broad Spectrum Microtabs II) until they were analyzed for total solid (TS), solid non-fat (SNF), fat, protein, lactose, casein, urea, density, acidity, free fatty acid (FFA), citric acid, freezing point depression (FPD) at a milk analyzer (Foss, MilkoScan™ FT2). Bu çalışma, rasyon kaba:kesif yem oranı, tahıl kaynağı ve yağ kaynaklarının keçilerde performans, süt kompozisyonu, sütte yağ asidi profili, rumen pH, rumen uçucu yağ asitleri (UYA) ve biyohidrojenasyona etkilerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla, iki kaba yem oranı: 40,60; iki nişasta kaynağı: arpa, mısır ve iki yağ kaynağı: palm, balık içeren rasyonlar hazırlanarak dört ayrı deneme yürütülmüştür. Birinci ve ikinci denemelerde performansın rasyon muamelelerinden etkilenmediği belirlenmiştir. Birinci denemede rasyonda balık yağı kullanımı ile sütte yağ, üre ve yoğunluk azalmış, konjuge linoleik asit (KLA), C18:1t, eikosapentaenoik asit (EPA) ve dokosahekzaenoik asit (DHA) ve çoklu doymamış yağ asitleri toplamı (PUFA) artmış, doymuş yağ asitleri toplamı (SFA) ise azalmıştır. İkinci denemede ise rasyonda arpa kullanımı ile sütte üre ve sitrik asitin arttığı, balık yağı kullanımı ile yağ, laktoz, üre, asitlik, sitrik asit ve yoğunluğun değiştiği, KLA, C18:1t, EPA, DHA ve PUFA'nın arttığı gözlenmiştir. Rasyonda arpa kullanımı ile sütte KLA ve C18:1t artmıştır. Üçüncü çalışmada, rumende pH, asetat ve bütirat etkilenmezken, rasyonda balık yağı kullanımıyla, rumende propiyonat azalmış, doymamış yağ asitleri oranı artmış, biyohidrojenasyon azalmıştır. Kaba yem oranının artması trans yağ asitleri oranını artırmıştır. Son çalışmada ise rasyonda mısır kullanımıyla rumende propiyonatın arttığı, asetat/propiyonat ve asetat+bütirat/propiyonat oranının yükseldiği tespit edilmiştir. Rasyonda balık yağı kullanımı ile rumende propiyonat ve biyohidrojenasyon azalmış ve rasyonda mısır kullanımı ile biyohidrojenasyonun azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Mevcut bulgular ışığında, keçi sütünde insan sağlığına faydalı etkilere sahip bazı yağ asitleri (KLA, EPA, DHA ve PUFA) oranının artırılması amacıyla rasyonda nişasta kaynağı olarak arpa; yağ kaynağı olarak da balık yağı kullanılması önerilebilir. Ayrıca rasyonda kaba yem oranı artırılarak, sütte KLA dışında; EPA, DHA ve PUFA gibi yağ asitleri oranı yükseltilebilir. Different roughage ratios (60, 40), starch (barley, corn) and oil sources (palm, fish) were used in set of four experiments. It was observed in the first and second experiments that dairy goat performance was not influenced by ration treatments. In the first experiments, fish oil in rations reduced milk fat contents, urea, density and saturated fatty acids (SFA) levels; increased conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), C18:1t, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahekzaenoic acid (DHA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Increasing roughage ratios also increased milk CLA, C18:1t, DHA and reduced EPA. In the second experiments, barley in rations increased milk urea, citric acid, CLA and C18:1t; fish oil in rations altered fat, lactose, acidity, citric acid and density, increased CLA, C18:1t, EPA, DHA and PUFA. In the third experiments, rumen pH, acetate, butyrate was not influenced from the treatments; fish oil in rations reduced rumen propionate, biohydrogenization and increased unsaturated fatty acid ratios; increasing roughage ratios also increased trans fatty acid ratios. In the fourth experiments, corn in rations, increased propionate, acetate/propionate and acetate + butyrate/propionate ratios. Fish oil in rations reduced rumen propionate and biohydrogenization of fatty acids. Corn in rations also reduced biohydrogenization. Along with the present findings, barley grain is recommended as a starch source and fish oil is recommended as an oil source to improve fatty acid composition (CLA, EPA, DHA and PUFA) of goat milk. Poultry litter is used as an energy source because of the methane gas or biogas content. This practice also provides a partial solution to environmental pollution and energy shortage problems. From poultry animals, daily feces are obtained up to 3-4% of their live weight. On average, a poultry produces 22 kg / year feces. In Turkey, about 7 million tons of poultry feces are creating environmental problems. For the establishment of methane gas extraction units from chicken breed; high investment costs, methods and operations appear to be factors that adversely affect the widespread use of this practice in enterprises today. Chicken manure can be evaluated in fresh or processed for biogas production. Methane gas can be obtained at 27-37 °C and in airless ambient (CH4) from fresh chicken manure. After this process, also the litter gain more quality for the soil as a fertilizer. In addition to contributing to the energy saving of biogas production from litter, the removal of gases such as CH4 and H2S and the absence of a suitable environment for harmful microorganisms bring with it a partial solution to the prevention of environmental pollution. Different methods are used for collecting and processing poultry wastes. The methods to be used have their own benefits and costs. The choice of methods is influenced by climate, animal species, capacity and economy. Solid wastes are disposed of by land filling, regular storage, incineration, composting, etc. As a result, the use of poultry litter as an energy source is very important both to be an alternative source and to reduce the damage to the environment.&nbsp
