Abstract: Accurate dense reconstruction of unknown spatial environments is crucial for applications such as underground exploration and planetary missions. Existing methods face challenges like observing blind spots and the difficulty of edge feature extraction in point clouds with non-repetitive scanning LiDARs. This paper first uses a novel odometry and mapping system integrating two solid-state LiDARs and an IMU to obtain distortion-compensated point clouds and corresponding poses, which are utilized to generate submaps. Our approach then leverages these accumulated submaps to efficiently extract edge features. Experimental results demonstrate that our submap-based method effectively identifies edge features within point clouds, which can be used for association with panoramas for joint optimization in the future.

2. TopoSense: agent driven topological graph extraction from remote sensing image

Abstract: Automatic topological graph extraction is critical for intelligent remote sensing image interpretation and cartographic representation. However, existing approaches neither adopt segmentation-based post-processing nor directly predict the graph, thereby suffering from limited scalability and poor adaptability to complex spatial structures. To address these issues, we introduce TopoSense, an innovative framework for extracting topological graphs from remote sensing images through an agent-driven approach. By employing a novel combination of reinforcement learning and neural network architectures, TopoSense autonomously navigates through pixel-level data, efficiently constructing topological representations. It not only enhances the accuracy of spatial feature detection, but also significantly reduces processing time. Experiments on the TOP-BOUNDARY and REALSCENE demonstrate its superiority in capturing intricate spatial relationships compared to traditional methods.

Abstract: Abstract We present a study of Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0 $$ , Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0\eta $$ , and Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η ′ $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\eta}^{\prime } $$ decays using the Belle and Belle II data samples, which have integrated luminosities of 980 fb −1 and 426 fb −1, respectively. We measure the following relative branching fractions B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.48 ± 0.02 stat ± 0.03 syst , B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.11 ± 0.01 stat ± 0.01 syst , B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η ′ / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.08 ± 0.02 stat ± 0.01 syst $$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.48\pm 0.02\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.03\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0\eta \right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.11\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\eta}^{\prime}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.08\pm 0.02\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}\right)\end{array}} $$ for the first time, where the uncertainties are statistical (stat) and systematic (syst). 4. NeRF-based Localization and Meshing with Wearable Laser Scanning System: A Case Study in Underground Environment

Abstract: Due to the subterranean scene’s poor lighting conditions and variability of the environment, real-time localizing and meshing in complex underground scenes present a challenging task, with high-potential applications in mining and tunnel protection. In this work, we propose a method that combines SLAM and NeRF for mesh reconstruction in the underground environment with a wearable device. First, a LiDAR-Inertial odometry is used for pose estimation. The resulting poses and sequential laser frames are synchronized to generate a novel data structure, scan-block, which is crucial for improving efficiency and ensuring local precision. This structure is designed to enhance efficiency and ensure local precision. Finally, the generated scan-blocks are passed to the backend NeRF for real-time mesh reconstruction. The experiments are carried out in a complex underground space. The experimental results proved that this method achieved good results. Abstract: Abstract We report measurements of the e + e − → B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ , B B ¯ ∗ $$ B{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ , and B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross sections at four energies, 10653, 10701, 10746 and 10805 MeV, using data collected by the Belle II experiment. We reconstruct one B meson in a large number of hadronic final states and use its momentum to identify the production process. In the first 2 – 5 MeV above B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ threshold, the e + e − → B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross section increases rapidly. This may indicate the presence of a pole close to the threshold.

6. Navigating protean career paths in medical education: insights from outstanding medical educators in South Korea

Abstract: Abstract Background This study explored the career development experiences of Korean medical educators who have forged their paths amid dynamic medical education landscapes. Additionally, it explored their career development process by introducing a protean career theoretical framework, that is, an individual-led career development theory. Methods This study employed Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to gather in-depth insights regarding the experiences of medical educators who have successfully built their careers in Korea. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine medical educators to investigate the significance of these experiences. The emerging themes were categorised based on the protean career theory during data analysis. Results The findings revealed that medical educators navigated their careers in line with the protean career development model, characterised by protean career orientation, process and outcomes. Their experiences in the medical education domain were aligned with eight factors of the protean career model – self-direction, intrinsic work values, awareness, adaptability, agency, subjective career success, objective career success and organisational commitment. Conclusion In the context of less structured career pathways and a rapidly evolving regional environment, medical educators have developed individual-driven careers with self-direction and intrinsic values, formed their identities and demonstrated flexibility and proactive strategies. Hence, the protean career model successfully explains the characteristics of self-directed career development for medical educators, while emphasising the need for organisational support.

Abstract: As an important energy in modern society, the stable operation of electricity is the guarantee of social and economic operation, and the loss caused by the damage of power facilities is immeasurable, so the regular monitoring of power facilities is indispensable. UAVs, with flexible flight mode, have played an important role in power inspection. With the development of UAV docks, UAV inspection has entered a new stage. However, due to the fixed location of the docks and limited coverage, how to achieve the optimal deployment of the docks with the lowest cost and full coverage of power facilities through reasonable deployment is one of the important issues that need to be solved at this stage of dock construction. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an energy-driven adaptive optimization method for dock location by combining geospatial analysis with UAV performance index. The experiment results show that our method can achieve an efficient, reasonable and feasible optimal location for UAV dock deployment.

8. Efficient Multi-floor Indoor Mapping with A Versatile Rotating LiDAR System

Abstract: Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) technology has provided an impactful way to capture 3D environmental map. However, consistent mapping in sensing-degenerated and perceptually-limited scenes (e.g. multi-story buildings) or under high dynamic sensor motion (e.g. rotating platform) remains a significant challenge. To this end, an efficient multi-floor indoor mapping system is proposed in this paper utilizing a versatile rotating LiDAR platform. In the front end, measurements from motor, IMU and LiDAR are tightly integrated to track the fast motion state of system, based on iterative Error State Kalman Filter (ESKF). Then linear and planar features are extracted from the point cloud map voxelized with adaptive resolutions. A sliding-window-based batch optimization is performed to simultaneously optimize the states of local frames with reference to the map consistency. In the experiments, we investigated the influence of rotating speed on the mapping performance as well as the superiority of rotating mechanism when compared to standard LiDAR setup. Moreover, comparative studies with one of the SOTA work, FAST-LIO2, have shown the competitive mapping results in multi-floor indoor environments.

Abstract: With the advancement of technology, unexposed spaces have emerged as a new type of strategic area, attracting significant attention from researchers. These spaces often present complex environments, such as extreme lighting variations, irregular geometries, and the lack of external positioning signals, making human entry hazardous. Fortunately, advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence have enabled unmanned systems to mitigate these challenges, allowing for safer exploration of unexposed spaces. UAVs, as vital unmanned system platforms, are extensively used across various industrial scenarios and are particularly effective for detecting unexposed spaces. To facilitate automated exploration of these areas, we propose the autonomous UAV system, LUOJIA Explorer. Equipped with a LiDAR sensor, data transmission module, and external anti-collision devices to protect the aircraft, LUOJIA Explorer is designed for effective unexposed space detection. We have integrated a laser point cloud positioning and mapping subsystem, along with a planning and control subsystem, into the LUOJIA Explorer. Through both simulation and actual experiments, the Luojia Explorer has demonstrated the capability to achieve stable flight based on self-positioning in unexposed spaces, with an exploration efficiency of 88.83 m3/s.

Abstract: Abstract We report a determination of the CKM angle ϕ 3, also known as γ, from a combination of measurements using samples of up to 711 fb −1 from the Belle experiment and up to 362 fb −1 from the Belle II experiment. We combine results from analyses of B + → DK +, B + → Dπ +, and B + → D * K + decays, where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ mesons, in a likelihood fit to obtain ϕ 3 = (75.2 ± 7.6) ° . We also briefly discuss the interpretation of this result.

Abstract: Abstract We present the result of a search for the charged-lepton-flavor violating decay τ − → μ − μ + μ − using a 424 fb −1 sample of data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB e + e − collider. The selection of e + e − → τ + τ − events is based on an inclusive reconstruction of the non-signal tau decay, and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. We observe one signal candidate, which is compatible with the expectation from background processes. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit of 1.9 × 10 −8 on the branching fraction of the τ − → μ − μ + μ − decay, which is the most stringent bound to date.

Developing innovative methods for data processing and analysis is crucial to unlock the full potential of GC×GC–MS in understanding intricate chemical mixtures. In this study, we proposed an innovative method for the semi-automated identification and quantification of complex organic mixtures using GC×GC–MS. The method was formulated based on self-constructed mass spectrum patterns and the traversal algorithms and was applied to organic vapor and aerosol samples collected from the tailpipe emissions of heavy-duty diesel vehicles and the ambient atmosphere. Thousands of compounds were filtered, speciated, and clustered into 26 categories, including aliphatic and cyclic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic oxygenated species, phenols and alkylphenols, and heteroatom-containing species. The identified species accounted for over 80 % of all the eluted chromatographic peaks at the molecular level. A comprehensive analysis of quantification uncertainty was undertaken. Using representative compounds, quantification uncertainties were found to be less than 37.67 %, 22.54 %, and 12.74 % for alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and alkyl-substituted benzenes, respectively, across the GC×GC space, excluding the first and the last time intervals. From a source apportionment perspective, adamantane was clearly isolated as a potential tracer for heavy-duty diesel vehicle (HDDV) emissions. The systematic distribution of nitrogen-containing compounds in oxidized and reduced valences was discussed, and many of them served as critical tracers for secondary nitrate formation processes. The results highlighted the benefits of developing self-constructed models for the enhanced peak identification, automated cluster analysis, robust uncertainty estimation, and source apportionment and achieving the full potential of GC×GC–MS in atmospheric chemistry.

13. Field assessments on the impact of CO2 concentration fluctuations along with complex-terrain flows on the estimation of the net ecosystem exchange of temperate forests

Abstract: CO2 storage (Fs) is the cumulation or depletion in CO2 amount over a period in an ecosystem. Along with the eddy covariance flux and wind-stream advection of CO2, it is a major term in the net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE) equation. The CO2 storage dominates the NEE equation under a stable atmospheric stratification when the equation is used for forest ecosystems over complex terrains. However, estimating Fs remains challenging due to the frequent gusts and random fluctuations in boundary-layer flows that lead to tremendous difficulties in capturing the true trend of CO2 changes for use in storage estimation from eddy covariance along with atmospheric profile techniques. Using measurements from Qingyuan Ker Towers equipped with NEE instrument systems separately covering mixed broad-leaved, oak, and larch forest towers in a mountain watershed, this study investigates gust periods and CO2 fluctuation magnitudes and examines their impact on Fs estimation in relation to the terrain complexity index (TCI). The gusts induce CO2 fluctuations for numerous periods of 1 to 10 min over 2 h. Diurnal, seasonal, and spatial differences (P < 0.01) in the maximum amplitude of CO2 fluctuations (Am) range from 1.6 to 136.7 ppm, and these differences range from 140 to 170 s in a period (Pm) at the same significance level. Am and Pm are significantly correlated to the magnitude of and random error in Fs with diurnal and seasonal differences. These correlations decrease as CO2 averaging time windows become longer. To minimize the uncertainties in Fs, a constant [CO2] averaging time window for the Fs estimates is not ideal. Dynamic averaging time windows and a decision-level fusion model can reduce the potential underestimation of Fs by 29 %–33 % for temperate forests in complex terrain. In our study, the relative contribution of Fs to the 30 min NEE observations ranged from 17 % to 82 % depending on turbulent mixing and the TCI. The study's approach is notable as it incorporates the TCI and utilizes three flux towers for replication, making the findings relevant to similar regions with a single tower.

Abstract: Abstract We present a measurement of the ratio R μ = B τ − → μ − ν ¯ μ ν τ / B τ − → e − ν ¯ e ν τ $$ {R}_{\mu }=\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }{\nu}_{\tau}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $$ of branching fractions B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ of the τ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB e + e − collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb −1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, R μ = 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the W boson in τ decays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

Abstract: Abstract We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D (*)+ K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ , B − → D (*)0 K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 362 fb −1. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed B meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of m(K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ ) and m(D (*) K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ ) in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D + K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ , B − → D* 0 K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ , and B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D* + K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity J P = 1− for the K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ systems and J P = 1+ for the K − K* 0 systems. We also present measurements of the branching fractions of four B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D (*)+ D s − $$ {D}_s^{-} $$ , B − → D (*)0 D s − $$ {D}_s^{-} $$ decay channels with a precision compatible to the current world averages.

Abstract: BackgroundThis brief report examines statin prescription trends for primary cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention in breast cancer (BC) survivors with diabetes, a large population at particularly high CVD risk.MethodsA population-based, retrospective cohort study was conducted using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registry data linked to Medicare claims. We identified women with preexisting diabetes who were diagnosed with stage 0–III primary BC between 2008 and 2017 without preexisting CVD. We assessed statin prescription rates over time and also examined differences in statin prescription rates according to patient sociodemographic characteristics. Using a multivariate logistic regression adjusted for sociodemographic and clinical variables, independent predictors of statin prescription were identified.ResultsOf 8,423 BC patients with diabetes without preexisting CVD, 5,698 (68%) had a statin prescription. Statin prescriptions increased over time (BC diagnosis year 2008–2009: 65%, 2010–2011: 67%, 2012–2013: 66%, 2014–2015: 69%, 2016–2017: 70%; p = 0.01) and differed by age (66–69: 66%, 70–74: 70%, 75–79: 69%, ≥80: 65%; p < 0.01) and race (White: 68%, Black: 62%, Latina: 66%, Other: 72%; p < 0.01). In a multivariate analysis, race (Black vs. White: OR 0.80, 95% CI: 0.68–0.95) remained a predictor of statin prescription.ConclusionIn older early-stage BC survivors, statin prescriptions increased over time and varied by age, race, and BC stage. These findings can potentially inform strategies to improve guideline-concordant statin prescriptions in a group at high risk for CVD and reduce disparities.

Abstract: Accurate air temperature measurements are essential in eddy covariance systems, not only for determining sensible heat flux but also for applying density effect corrections (DECs) to water vapor and CO2 fluxes. However, the influence of wind-induced vibrations of mounting structures on temperature fluctuations remains a subject of investigation. This study examines 30 min average temperature variances and fluxes using eddy covariance systems, combining Campbell Scientific sonic anemometers with closely co-located fine-wire thermocouples alongside LI-COR CO2–H2O gas analyzers at multiple heights above a sagebrush ecosystem. The variances of sonic temperature after humidity corrections (Ts) and sensible heat fluxes derived from Ts are underestimated (e.g., by approximately 5 % for temperature variances and 4 % for sensible heat fluxes at 40.2 m, respectively) as compared with those measured by a fine-wire thermocouple (Tc). Spectral analysis illustrates that these underestimated variances and fluxes are caused by the lower energy levels in the Ts spectra than the Tc spectra in the low-frequency range (natural frequency < 0.02 Hz). These underestimated Ts spectra in the low-frequency range become more pronounced with increasing wind speeds, especially when wind speed exceeds 10 m s−1. Moreover, the underestimated temperature variances and fluxes cause overestimated water vapor and CO2 fluxes through DEC. Our analysis suggests that these underestimations when using Ts are likely due to wind-induced vibrations affecting the tower and mounting arms, altering the time of flight of ultrasonic signals along three sonic measurement paths. This study underscores the importance of further investigations to develop corrections for these errors.

Abstract: Measurements of carbon-14-containing carbon monoxide (14CO) in glacial ice are useful for studies of the past oxidative capacity of the atmosphere as well as for reconstructing the past cosmic ray flux. The 14CO abundance in glacial ice represents the combination of trapped atmospheric 14CO and in situ cosmogenic 14CO. The systematics of in situ cosmogenic 14CO production and retention in ice are not fully quantified, posing an obstacle to interpretation of ice core 14CO measurements. Here we provide the first comprehensive characterization of 14CO at an ice accumulation site (Summit, Greenland), including measurements in the ice grains of the firn matrix, firn air and bubbly ice below the firn zone. The results are interpreted with the aid of a firn gas transport model into which we implemented in situ cosmogenic 14C. We find that almost all (≈ 99.5 %) of in situ 14CO that is produced in the ice grains in firn is very rapidly (in <1 year) lost to the open porosity and from there mostly vented to the atmosphere. The timescale of this rapid loss is consistent with what is expected from gas diffusion through ice. The small fraction of in situ 14CO that initially stays in the ice grains continues to slowly leak out to the open porosity at a rate of ≈ 0.6 % yr−1. Below the firn zone we observe an increase in 14CO content with depth that is due to in situ 14CO production by deep-penetrating muons, confirming recent estimates of 14CO production rates in ice via the muon mechanisms and allowing for narrowing constraints on these production rates.

Abstract: Abstract We present an analysis of the process e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) (where n = 1, 2, or 3) reconstructed in 19.6 fb −1 of Belle II data during a special run of the SuperKEKB collider at four energy points near the peak of the Υ(10753) resonance. By analyzing the mass distribution of the π + π − Υ(nS) system and the Born cross sections of the e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) process, we report the first observation of Υ(10753) decays to the π + π − Υ(1S) and π + π − Υ(2S) final states, and find no evidence for decays to π + π − Υ(3S). Possible intermediate states in the π + π − Υ(1S, 2S) transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the π ∓ Z b ± $$ {\pi}^{\mp }{Z}_b^{\pm } $$ or f 0(980)Υ(nS) intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) process that, combined with results from Belle, obtain the mass and width of Υ(10753) to be (10756.6 ± 2.7 ± 0.9) MeV/c 2 and (29.0 ± 8.8 ± 1.2) MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the Υ(10753) resonance peak are also reported for the first time.

Abstract: Abstract We report results from a study of B ± → DK ± decays followed by D decaying to the CP-even final state K + K − and CP-odd final state K S 0 π 0 $$ {K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ states. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle ϕ 3. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of 198 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure the CP asymmetries to be A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ = (+12.5 ± 5.8 ± 1.4)% and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− = (−16.7 ± 5.7 ± 0.6)%, and the ratios of branching fractions to be R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP+ = 1.164 ± 0.081 ± 0.036 and R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP− = 1.151 ± 0.074 ± 0.019. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5 standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3% confidence intervals of (8.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 16.5 ° ) or (84.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 95.5 ° ) or (163.3 ° < ϕ 3 < 171.5 ° ) and 0.321 < r B < 0.465.

Abstract: Focused ultrasound (FUS) is a minimally invasive treatment that utilizes high-energy ultrasound waves to thermally ablate tissue. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance may be combined with FUS (MRgFUS) to increase its accuracy and has been proposed for lung tumor ablation/debulking. However, the lungs are predominantly filled with air, which attenuates the strength of the FUS beam. This investigation aimed to test the feasibility of a new approach using an intentional lung collapse to reduce the amount of air inside the lung and a controlled hydrothorax to create an acoustic window for transcutaneous MRgFUS lung ablation. Eleven pigs had one lung mechanically ventilated while the other lung underwent a controlled collapse and subsequent hydrothorax of that hemisphere. The MRgFUS lung ablations were then conducted via the intercostal space. All the animals recovered well and remained healthy in the week following the FUS treatment. The location and size of the ablations were confirmed one week post-treatment via MRI, necropsy, and histological analysis. The animals had almost no side effects and the skin burns were completely eliminated after the first two animal studies, following technique refinement. This study introduces a novel methodology of MRgFUS that can be used to treat deep lung parenchyma in a safe and viable manner.

Abstract: Petroleum hydrocarbon is one of the dangerous substances in the process of petroleum development, refining, processing, transportation, and production. In the related activities of the petroleum industry, the output is large, and improper treatment will cause pollution to the surrounding environment. It is an urgent problem to conduct harmless and resource treatment of petroleum hydrocarbon polluted soil. Plant enrichment, as an environmentally friendly and pollution-free technical means, has the advantages of low cost and small change to the soil environment and effectively solves the problems of excessive heavy metals in petroleum hydrocarbons through plant enrichment. In this paper, the development process of plant enrichment, remediation methods, and plant enrichment of typical heavy metals (Cd, Hg, Zn) in petroleum hydrocarbon-polluted soil were systematically introduced. Through investigation, the mechanism and influencing factors of plant enrichment of heavy metals in the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons were summarized and analyzed, and the possible development direction of plant enrichment technology in the future was prospected.

Abstract: With regard to the pronounced pressure pulsation and cyclic thrust oscillation observed in the tail flow field of an underwater vehicle operating under over-expanded conditions, and drawing inspiration from flow control techniques involving porous media structures like submarine coral reefs and breakwaters, this paper presents an innovative proposition to incorporate a porous media layer on the tail wall of the nozzle in order to regulate the structure of the tail gaseous jets. To optimize the flow control of underwater vehicles, the utilization of porous media layers with varying degrees of porosity is employed to establish a model for underwater supersonic gaseous jets. This model scrutinizes the intricate structure of the tail gaseous jets, as well as the consequential wall pressure and thrust engendered by the nozzle. The findings eloquently demonstrate that the porous media model, boasting a porosity of 0.34, exerts a diminished influence on the morphological characteristics of the tail gaseous jets, while concurrently yielding a superior flow control effect on the pulsation of tail wall pressure and attenuating the differential thrust generated by the underwater vehicle. Consequently, this innovative approach effectively mitigates overall thrust oscillation, thereby enhancing the stability of the underwater vehicle throughout its submerged operations.

Abstract: Abstract Post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (PI-ME/CFS) is a disabling disorder, yet the clinical phenotype is poorly defined, the pathophysiology is unknown, and no disease-modifying treatments are available. We used rigorous criteria to recruit PI-ME/CFS participants with matched controls to conduct deep phenotyping. Among the many physical and cognitive complaints, one defining feature of PI-ME/CFS was an alteration of effort preference, rather than physical or central fatigue, due to dysfunction of integrative brain regions potentially associated with central catechol pathway dysregulation, with consequences on autonomic functioning and physical conditioning. Immune profiling suggested chronic antigenic stimulation with increase in naïve and decrease in switched memory B-cells. Alterations in gene expression profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and metabolic pathways were consistent with cellular phenotypic studies and demonstrated differences according to sex. Together these clinical abnormalities and biomarker differences provide unique insight into the underlying pathophysiology of PI-ME/CFS, which may guide future intervention.

Abstract: Abstract We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) → ℓ ∓ τ ± (ℓ = e, μ) decays using a 25 fb −1 Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ( B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits: B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S) → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 0.23 × 10 −6 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S) → e ∓ τ ± ) < 1.12 × 10 −6.

Abstract: The limited field of view (FoV) of single LiDAR poses challenges for robots to achieve comprehensive environmental perception. Incorporating multiple LiDAR sensors can effectively broaden the FoV of robots, providing abundant measurements to facilitate simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). In this paper, we propose a panoramic tightly-coupled multi-LiDAR-inertial odometry and mapping framework, which fully leverages the properties of solid-state LiDAR and spinning LiDAR. The key of the proposed framework lies in the effective completion of multi-LiDAR spatial-temporal fusion. Additionally, we employ the iterated extended Kalman filter to achieve tightly-coupled inertial odometry and mapping with IMU data. PMLIO showcases competitive performance on multiple scenarios data, compared with state-of-the-art single LiDAR-inertial SLAM algorithms, and reaches a noteworthy improvement of 27.1% and 12.9% in max and median of absolute pose error (APE) respectively.

Abstract: This paper proposes a real-time 3D image point clouds mapping algorithm for UAVs that is capable of mapping effectively in weak GNSS environments. And a UAV mapping system is integrated with a RGB camera, an inertial measurement unit (IMU), a GNSS receiver, data transmission devices, and a DJI M300 flight platform. To achieve real-time and robust mapping, the system utilizes a visual-inertial odometry (VIO) that tightly couples GNSS, RGB image, and IMU, which provides stable state estimation information for mapping. Subsequently, a dense matching algorithm based on key frames is adopted to recover 3D mapping information with low-computational cost. Extensive experiments are conducted on our test site, demonstrating the system's ability to build maps stably, even under the effect of wind. The results compared with the trajectory reconstructed by Pix4D show that the system achieves competitive accuracy of pose estimation and is capable of real-time mapping.

Abstract: The current status as well as the potential absorption capability of the forest carbon sinks in terrestrial ecosystems are in urgent need of further studies. The ground observation-based methods are labor-intensive, and the resulting statistics from samples are difficult to evaluate, while inversion methods based on remote sensing data lack theoretical explanation and universality. This paper proposes a pixel-level, multi-scale, high-precision Explicit Forest carbon stock Model (EFM) that is universal and adaptive. First, four key variables were used in the construction of the EFM: remote sensing image resolution, forest canopy density, terrain slope, and forest height; Second, simulated forest scene were generated based on the growth characteristics of individual trees, and EFM parameters were solved and analyzed by these simulated pixels; Third, the EFM was tested at various scales and forest saturation levels to verify its accuracy, robustness, and applicability, the simulation and real-life experiments show that the correlation coefficient is greater than 0.98 and the relative error is about 20%. The EFM solves the problem that the existing methods are lack in theoretical interpretation and universal applicability, thus can be used to map forest carbon stocks at high resolution and large scale and even monitor forest carbon dynamics at global scale.

34. Retrieval of temperature and humidity profiles from ground-based high-resolution infrared observations using an adaptive fast iterative algorithm

Abstract: Various retrieval algorithms have been developed for retrieving temperature and water vapor profiles from Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) observations. The physical retrieval algorithm, named AERI Optimal Estimation (AERIoe), outperforms other retrieval algorithms in many aspects except the retrieval time, which is significantly increased due to the complex radiative transfer process. The calculation of the Jacobian matrix is the most computationally intensive step of the physical retrieval algorithm. Interestingly, an analysis of the change in AERI observations' information content with respect to Jacobians revealed that the AERIoe algorithm's performance presents negligible dependence on these metrics. Thus, the Jacobian matrix could remain unchanged when the variation in the atmospheric state is small in the retrieval process to reduce the most time-consuming computation. On the basis of the above findings, a fast physical–iterative retrieval algorithm was proposed by adaptively recalculating Jacobians in keeping with the changes in the atmospheric state. Experiments with synthetic observations demonstrate that the proposed method experiences an average reduction in retrieval time by an impressive 59 % compared to the original AERIoe algorithm while achieving maximum root-mean-square errors of less than 0.95 K and 0.22 log(ppmv) for heights below 3 km for the temperature and water vapor profile, respectively. Further analyses revealed that the fast-retrieval algorithm reached an acceptable convergence rate of 98.7 %, marginally lower than AERIoe's 99.9 % convergence rate for the 826 cases used in this study.

35. A multiline fitting method for measuring ethylene concentration based on WMS-2f/1f

Abstract: Abstract Coal spontaneous combustion risk assessment is a global technical challenge for the sustainable development of deep mining technology, and C2H4 is a key indicator for early warning of coal spontaneous combustion. Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) has the advantages of high selectivity, high sensitivity, high accuracy and real-time on-line measurement, and it can detect multiple gases simultaneously, so it has significant advantages in the accurate detection of coal spontaneous combustion indicator gases. To address the problem of cross-interference between the near-infrared absorption lines of CH4 and C2H4, which are the indicator gases of spontaneous combustion in coal, a multi-line fitting method was proposed in this study to calibrate the concentration of C2H4. The high-precision Environics2000 automatic standard gas dispenser from the United States, which has a built-in CPU computer control and data control and processing system, was used. Its gas concentration accuracy: ± 1.0%, gas flow accuracy: ± 1.0%, gas repeatability accuracy: ± 1.0%, flow linearity accuracy: ± 0.5%, and inlet operating pressure: minimum 10 psig (0.67 bar) ~ 75 psig (5.04 bar). The measured and simulated WMS-2f/1f signals were multilinearly fitted using a multilinear fitting algorithm and wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS), and the measurement of C2H4 concentration was achieved based on the extracted spectral line information. The results show that the maximum relative error of C2H4 concentration measurement is 2.40%, which is 54% lower than that of the conventional 2f peak measurement method, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the multilinear fitting algorithm in the inversion of C2H4 concentration under the interference of absorption lines. In addition, this study has far-reaching implications for the application of TDLAS technology in the accurate detection of coal spontaneous combustion indicator gases.

Abstract: Abstract We measure CP asymmetries and branching-fraction ratios for B ± → DK ± and Dπ ± decays with D → K S 0 $$ {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ K ± π ∓, where D is a superposition of D 0 and D ¯ $$ \overline{D} $$ 0. We use the full data set of the Belle experiment, containing 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs, and data from the Belle II experiment, containing 387 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs, both collected in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. Our results provide model-independent information on the unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3.

Abstract: Abstract We measure the cross section of e + e − → η c J/ψ at the Υ(nS)(n = 1–5) on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of 955 fb −1. We also search for double charmonium production in e + e − → η c J/ψ via initial state radiation near the η c J/ψ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the e + e − → η c J/ψ process is found with a statistical significance greater than 3.3σ near the η c J/ψ threshold. The average cross section near the threshold is measured and upper limits of cross sections are set for other regions.

38. Enhanced detection of African swine fever virus in samples with low viral load using digital PCR technology

Abstract: Detection of low viral load samples has long been a challenge for African swine fever (ASF) prevention and control. This study aimed to compare the detection efficacy of droplet digital PCR(ddPCR) and quantitative PCR(qPCR) for African swine fever virus (ASFV) at different viral loads, with a focus on assessing the accuracy of ddPCR in detecting low viral load samples. The results revealed that ddPCR had a detection limit of 1.97 (95% CI 1.48 – 4.12) copies/reaction and was 18.99 times more sensitive than qPCR (detection limit: 37.42, 95% CI 29.56 – 69.87 copies/reaction). In the quantification of high, medium, and low viral load samples, ddPCR showed superior stability with lower intra- (2.06% – 7.58%) and inter-assay (3.83% – 7.50%) coefficients of variation than those of qPCR (intra-assay: 8.08%–29.86%; inter-assay: 9.27%–34.58%). Bland-Altman analysis indicated acceptable consistency between ddPCR and qPCR for high and medium viral load samples; however, discrepancies were observed for low viral load samples, where two samples (2/24, 8.33%) exhibited deviations beyond the acceptable range (−46.18 copies/reaction). Moreover, ddPCR demonstrated better performance in detecting ASFV in clinical samples from asymptomatic pigs and environmental samples, with qPCR showing false negative rates of 7.69% (2/26) and 27.27% (12/44), respectively. Abstract: Introduction Male infertility refers to the inability of a man to impregnate a woman. It is a public health issue among men of reproductive age. Certain minerals, such as zinc, selenium, iron, and magnesium, are essential to produce healthy sperm and for maintaining male reproductive function. Medicinal plants containing these minerals can improve sperm quality and increase the chances of conception in men suffering from infertility. Purpose The aim of this research was to analyze the elemental composition of four medicinal plants traditionally used for their aphrodisiac properties, with a particular emphasis on their application in the treatment of male sterility. Methods The mineral content of selected plants was assessed by X-ray fluorescence using Energy Dispersive XRF Spectrometer (EDXRF). Results The findings reveal significant concentrations of various minerals in the studied medicinal plants, providing crucial information about their elemental composition. Thirty mineral elements were identified, including six macro elements (Na, Mg, P, S, K, Ca), 15 micro elements (Al, Si, Mn, Ni, Cu, Mo, Pb, Ti, V, Cr, Hg, Br, Rb, Sr, and Cd), three important elements in the diet of spermatozoa (Fe, Zn, Mg), and seven non-relevant elements. These results can have direct implications for the medicinal properties of the plants, especially in the context of treating male sterility. Conclusions Among the selected medicinal plants, Mondia whitei is rich in minerals as evidenced by principal component analysis (PCA) and could potentially contribute to improving overall health and indirectly promoting male fertility. the

Abstract: Abstract Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of τ lepton decays into a light charged lepton (ℓ = e ± or μ ± ) and a vector meson (V 0 = ρ 0, ϕ, ω, K *0, or K ¯ $$ \overline{K} $$ *0) using 980 fb −1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events is observed, and thus 90% credibility level upper limits are set on the τ → ℓV 0 branching fractions in the range of (1.7–4.3) × 10 −8. These limits are improved by 30% on average from the previous results.

44. A Novel Circular RNA circITGa9 Predominantly Generated in Human Heart Disease Induces Cardiac Remodeling and Fibrosis

Abstract: Recent studies have highlighted the pivotal roles of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in cardiovascular diseases. Through high-throughput circRNA sequencing of both normal myocardial tissues and hypertrophic patients, we unveiled 32,034 previously undiscovered circRNAs with distinct cardiac expression patterns. Notably, circITGa9, a circRNA derived from integrin-α9, exhibited substantial up-regulation in cardiac hypertrophy patients. This elevation was validated across extensive sample pools from cardiac patients and donors. In vivo experiments revealed heightened cardiac fibrosis in mice subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC) after circITGa9 injection. We identified circITGa9 binding proteins through circRNA precipitation followed by liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry. Furthermore, circRNA pull-down/precipitation assays demonstrated that increased circITGa9 expression facilitated binding with tropomyosin 3 (TPM3). Specific binding sites between circITGa9 and TPM3 were identified through computational algorithms and further validated by site-directed mutagenesis. We further showed that circITGa9 induced actin polymerization, characteristic of tissue fibrosis. Finally, we developed approaches that improved cardiac function and decreased fibrosis by delivering small interfering RNA targeting circITGa9 or blocking oligo inhibiting the interaction of circITGa9 and TPM3 into TAC mice, which is amenable for further preclinical and translational development. We conclude that elevated circITGa9 levels drive cardiac remodeling and fibrosis. By pinpointing circITGa9 as a therapeutic target, we open doors to innovative interventions for mitigating cardiac remodeling and fibrosis.

45. Aggravated Ulcerative Colitis via circNlgn-Mediated Suppression of Nuclear Actin Polymerization

Abstract: Colitis is a chronic bowel disease characterized by damage to the lining of the large intestine, with its precise underlying causes remaining incompletely understood. In this study, we provide evidence that circular RNA circNlgn plays a pivotal role in promoting the development of colitis. Colitis patients produce significant higher levels of circNlgn. Transgenic mice expressing circNlgn exhibit heightened susceptibility to colitis development and progression, primarily attributed to the presence of the protein isoform Nlgn173 encoded by circNlgn. Nlgn173 undergoes translocation into cell nuclei, where it interacts with actin, impeding the binding of actin-related protein 2 and 3 (Arp2/3) complex to actin molecules. Consequently, this leads to a reduction in actin polymerization. Mechanistically, Nlgn173 enhances tyrosine-53 phosphorylation of nuclear actin, diminishing its capacity to interact with the Arp2/3 complex and causing a decrease in filamentous actin levels. These alterations in actin dynamics result in inhibited cell cycle progression, increased apoptosis, and decreased proliferation of colonic epithelial cells, thereby exacerbating colitis development and progression. In contrast, the silencing of circNlgn or the targeted inhibition of Nlgn173 translation and nuclear translocation leads to the promotion of nuclear actin polymerization, enhanced cell survival, and reduced apoptosis and ultimately improves the outcome of colitis in vivo. Interestingly, nuclear actin polymerization is highly related with expression of PIAS3, which modulates signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 and NF-κB activity in colitis. Strategies such as circNlgn knockdown and targeting nuclear actin polymerization of the colonic epithelium may explore a novel avenue for acute ulcerative colitis clinical intervention.

Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) have long been sought as therapeutic targets for EOC, as they are frequently hyperactivated in primary tumors and drive disease relapse, progression, and metastasis. More recently, these oncogenic drivers have been implicated in EOC response to poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors and epigenome-interfering agents. This evidence revives RTKs as promising targets for therapeutic intervention of EOC. This review summarizes recent studies on the role of RTKs in EOC malignancy and the use of their inhibitors for clinical treatment. Our focus is on the ERBB family, c-Met, and VEGFR, as they are linked to drug resistance and targetable using commercially available drugs. The importance of these RTKs and their inhibitors is highlighted by their impact on signal transduction and intratumoral heterogeneity in EOC and successful use as maintenance therapy in the clinic through suppression of the VEGF/VEGFR axis. Finally, the therapeutic potential of RTK inhibitors is discussed in the context of combinatorial targeting via co-inhibiting proliferative and anti-apoptotic pathways, epigenomic/transcriptional programs, and harnessing the efficacy of PARP inhibitors and programmed cell death 1/ligand 1 immune checkpoint therapies.

48. AMORE-Isoprene v1.0: a new reduced mechanism for gas-phase isoprene oxidation

Abstract: Gas-phase oxidation of isoprene by ozone (O3) and the hydroxyl (OH) and nitrate (NO3) radicals significantly impacts tropospheric oxidant levels and secondary organic aerosol formation. The most comprehensive and up-to-date chemical mechanism for isoprene oxidation consists of several hundred species and over 800 reactions. Therefore, the computational expense of including the entire mechanism in large-scale atmospheric chemical transport models is usually prohibitive, and most models employ reduced isoprene mechanisms ranging in size from ∼ 10 to ∼ 200 species. We have developed a new reduced isoprene oxidation mechanism using a directed-graph path-based automated model reduction approach, with minimal manual adjustment of the output mechanism. The approach takes as inputs a full isoprene oxidation mechanism, the environmental parameter space, and a list of priority species which are protected from elimination during the reduction process. Our reduced mechanism, AMORE-Isoprene (where AMORE stands for Automated Model Reduction), consists of 12 species which are unique to the isoprene mechanism as well as 22 reactions. We demonstrate its performance in a box model in comparison with experimental data from the literature and other current isoprene oxidation mechanisms. AMORE-Isoprene's performance with respect to predicting the time evolution of isoprene oxidation products, including isoprene epoxydiols (IEPOX) and formaldehyde, is favorable compared with other similarly sized mechanisms. When AMORE-Isoprene is included in the Community Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Multiphase Mechanism 1.0 (CRACMM1AMORE) in the Community Multiscale Air Quality Model (CMAQ, v5.3.3), O3 and formaldehyde agreement with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Air Quality System observations is improved. O3 bias is reduced by 3.4 ppb under daytime conditions for O3 concentrations over 50 ppb. Formaldehyde bias is reduced by 0.26 ppb on average for all formaldehyde measurements compared with the base CRACMM1. There was no significant change in computation time between CRACMM1AMORE and the base CRACMM. AMORE-Isoprene shows a 35 % improvement in agreement between simulated IEPOX concentrations and chamber data over the base CRACMM1 mechanism when compared in the Framework for 0-D Atmospheric Modeling (F0AM) box model framework. This work demonstrates a new highly reduced isoprene mechanism and shows the potential value of automated model reduction for complex reaction systems.

Abstract: Abstract We present the analysis of two-particle angular correlations using coordinate systems defined with the conventional beam axis and the event thrust axis. We propose the latter as a good representation for the correlation structure interpretation in the e + e − collision system. The e + e − collisions to hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 10.52 GeV and 10.58 GeV are recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. In this paper, results on the first dataset are supplementary to the previous Belle publication [1]. At the same time, the latter is the first two-particle correlation measurement at collision energy on the Υ(4S) resonance and is sensitive to its decay products. Measurements are reported as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. Finally, a qualitative understanding of the correlation structure is discussed using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data.

50. Atmospheric nanoparticles hygroscopic growth measurement by a combined surface plasmon resonance microscope and hygroscopic tandem differential mobility analyzer

Abstract: The hygroscopic growth of atmospheric aerosols plays an important role in regional radiation, cloud formation, and hence climate. Aerosol hygroscopic growth is often characterized by hygroscopic tandem differential mobility analyzers (HTDMAs), and Xie et al. (2020) recently demonstrated that hygroscopic growth measurements of a single particle are possible using a surface plasmon resonance microscope-azimuthal rotation illumination (SPRM-ARI). The hygroscopic properties of ambient aerosols are not uniform and often exhibit large relative humidity (RH) and size variabilities due to different chemical compositions and mixing states. To better understand the contribution of different aerosol components and establish a link between the apparent hygroscopic properties of single particles and bulk aerosols, we conduct combined hygroscopic growth measurements using a SPRM-ARI and an HTDMA as a case study to prove the concept (experimental information: 100–200 nm, during noontime on 28 September 2021 and 22 March 2022 in Hefei, China). According to the distinct hygroscopic growth behavior from single-particle probing using a SPRM-ARI, the individual particles can be classified into three categories defined as non-hygroscopic (NH), less hygroscopic (LH), and more hygroscopic (MH). The mean growth factor (GF) of the three categories can be utilized to reproduce the GF distribution obtained from the HTDMA measurement. The chemical compositions of individual particles from the three categories are identified to be organic carbon (OC), soot (mainly elemental carbon), fly ash, and secondary aerosols (mainly OC and sulfate), using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The coupled SPRM–HTDMA measurement suggests a size-dependent variation of aerosol chemical components, i.e., an increase of OC fraction with increasing particle sizes, which agrees reasonably well with the chemical compositions from collected aerosol samples. This likely links the hygroscopic properties of individual particles to their bulk hygroscopic growth and chemical composition.
