The petroleum industry in Nigeria contributes a huge percentage to the national revenue of the country, to the extent that budgets are being passed based on the oil price dynamics. With the importance the petroleum sector has attained in Nigeria, it is expected that the country's pedagogy will reflect the value it contributes to the national table. However, reviews, surveys, and works of literature have shown otherwise. As a result, this study emphasizes the importance of petroleum engineering pedagogy in-country as an oil-producing country, the university curriculum of petroleum engineering in Nigeria was also examined (with a particular focus on the impact of poor curriculum on national development), and the dynamics between the university, industry and government were critically discussed and recommended practices for improving petroleum engineering pedagogy were made. This study targets national development and control over its own resources through a knowledge economy and seamless dynamics of information within the oil and gas industry. The Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, is further expected to capitalize on the outcomes of this research for curriculum review of petroleum engineering and related courses offered in-country to foster sustainability in a competing global society.

The challenge of data availability for accurately assessing a location's level of corrosivity has lingered for so long and as such, researchers are constantly seeking factors with great influence that can assist in describing how corrosive a location will be toward buried oil and gas infrastructure. Alternative measures are required for making rapid and realistic investment decisions because accumulating these factors to make perfect sense is sometimes time-consuming and expensive. Using MATLAB mathematical computational analysis, this study capitalizes on this gap to build a 3D corrosivity signature and model for Delta state, Nigeria to aid in rapid and realistic investment decision-making. The soil pH and resistivity were identified as key variables that determine the extent of corrosion in this investigation. Vertical Electrical Soundings were utilized to collect soil resistivity data, which was then combined with the soil pH to create a 3D corrosivity signature and model with a 98% R-square factor. During the study, potential limitations were found, and recommendations were made.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas has proved to be an essential source of fuel through the mild blue glowing flame it produces on ignition in the presence of oxygen. This source of heat has made it suitable for use as cooking gas. Various developed countries have been able to transport gas to homes for heating of homes and as cooking gas using grids while considering environmental conditions specific to that country. This study unveils a distribution mechanism for effectively transporting cooking gas safely to homes in Rivers State. This gas distribution plan is a one supplier strategy which could be government or private owned. Choba community was used as a choice case study because of its strategic position. Also, the gas properties such as RVP, Pressure and Temperature were analyzed together with the pipe properties. The project impacts on the major environmental components of the study area were assessed and considered. The distribution routes considered locations of present gas processing plants in Rivers State and optimized routes for transport was introduced. Local terminals to ease distribution, monitoring and safety were also included. The economic analysis of this study will show how the distribution of cooking gas to homes can increase the utilization of Nigerian gas and improve the benefits from Nigerian gas in the next 10 years.

The sudden calls for the end of fossil fuel production as a source of energy inspired this research. This study attempts to understand if these calls are due to “cartelization by political bodies” as described by Libecap, in 1972, promotion of self-benefits, or genuine calls based on disastrous impacts of global warming and general climate changes. Alternative energy sources and their present sustainability will be examined, policies affecting fossil fuels over time will be identified, the effects of these global and national policies, the politics behind calls and perspectives from various continents will be discussed, the lowest and highest GHG emitters will be identified, and recommendations will be made on the best course of action based on reviews and findings from around the world. Furthermore, this study understands that the world is a global village and considered the effect of climate change as a global challenge, however, its arguments and suggestion were made by critical analysis of the causation, major beneficiaries of policies, effects on countries dependent on fossil fuels, responses towards the effect of emission, and impact of climate change.

This project uses production data to generate well-specific correlations for GLR, BSW and sand concentration which are used for predictions. A software has been developed to effect a smart control algorithm. This results in a bean up or bean down operation depending on the current flowing conditions and constraints. Excel programming environment was used to write a code that constantly takes in measured data points, models the behavior of the individual data sets with bean size and controls the choke if the parameters of interest go above a predetermined cut-off. The software was also equipped with an inverse matrix solving algorithm that enables it to determine the choke performance constants for any set of initialization data. A set of data from field X were supplied and the choke performance constants; A, B, C, D and E, were found to be 10, 0.546, 0.0, 1.89 and 1.0 respectively. In addition to that, data from subsequent production operations were entered and the software was able to control the choke size to ensure that production stays below set constraints of 500, 80 and 10 in field units for GLR, BSW and sand concentration respectively. From this, it can be concluded that the software can effectively maintain the production of unwanted well effluents below their cut-offs, thereby improving oil production and the overall Net Profit Value (NPV) of a project.
