3. Dynamical and static spin structure factors of Heisenberg antiferromagnet on honeycomb lattice in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

Abstract

We have theoretically studied the spin structure factors of Heisenberg model on honeycomb lattice in the presence of longitudinal magnetic field, i.e. magnetic field perpendicular to the honeycomb plane, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The possible effects of next nearest neighbor exchange constant are investigated in terms of anisotropy in the Heisenberg interactions. This spatial anisotropy is due to the difference between nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant and next nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant. The original spin model hamiltonian is mapped to a bosonic model via a hard core bosonic transformation where an infinite hard core repulsion is imposed to constrain one boson occupation per site. Using Green's function approach, the energy spectrum of quasiparticle excitation has been obtained. The spectrum of the bosonic gas has been implemented in order to obtain two particle propagator which corresponds to spin structure factor of original Heisenberg chain model Hamiltonian. The results show the position of peak in the dynamical transverse spin structure factor at fixed value for Dzyaloshinskii Moriya interaction moves to higher frequency with magnetic field. Also the intensity of dynamical transverse spin structure factor is not affected by magnetic field. However the Dzyaloshinskii Moriya interaction strength causes to decrease the intensity of dynamical transverse spin structure factor. The increase of magnetic field does not varied the frequency position of peaks in dynamical longitudinal spin susceptibility however the intensity reduces with magnetic field. 4. Longitudinal Magnetization and specific heat of the anisotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet on Honeycomb lattice

Abstract

We study the effects of longitudinal magnetic field and temperature on the thermodynamic properties of two dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the honeycomb lattice in the presence of anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and next nearest neighbor coupling exchange constant. In particular, the temperature dependence of specific heat have been investigated for various physical parameters in the model Hamiltonian. Using a hard core bosonic representation, the behavior of thermodynamic properties has been studied by means of excitation spectrum of mapped bosonic gas. The effect of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction term on thermodynamic properties has also been studied via the bosonic model by Green's function approach. Furthermore we have studied the magnetic field dependence of specific heat and magnetization for various anisotropy parameters. At low temperatures, the specific heat is found to be monotonically increasing with temperature for magnetic fields in the gapped field induced phase region. We have found the magnetic field dependence of specific heat shows a monotonic decreasing behavior for various magnetic fields due to increase of energy gap in the excitation spectrum. Abstract

By careful searching of synthetic and observed spectra in a sample of cool giant and supergiant stars, we have updated the continuum band-passes of near-infrared Wing three filter system. This photometric system measures the strength of Titanium Oxide (TiO) absorption in Near-Infrared (NIR) at 719 nm. We show that new reference continuum band-passes are essentially free from molecular absorptions and the updated TiO-index defines the temperature variation in a sample of cool giants with less scatter. Dietary intakes were evaluated using a valid and reliable semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Biochemical variables and anthropometrics were evaluated at baseline and follow-up examinations. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to estimate the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in relation to total intake of polyphenol and its subclasses (flavonoids, phenolic acids, stilbenes, and lignans).Results: This study was conducted on 2,882 men and 3,665 women, aged 41.3± 14.6 and 39.0± 13.4 years, respectively. The number of participants with the new-onset T2DM was 253. Mean intake of total polyphenol was 346± 245 mg/1000 kcal. Risk of type 2 diabetes decreased from quartiles 1 to 4 for total polyphenols (HR: 1.00, 0.37, 0.61, 0.50, Ptrend< 0.01), phenolic acids (HR: 1.00, 0.57, 0.49, 0.45, Ptrend< 0.01), and lignans (HR: 1.00, 0.67, 0.61, 0.60, Ptrend< 0.01), whereas non-significant results were found for flavonoids and stilbenes. This study suggests an inverse association between total intake of polyphenols, phenolic acids, and lignin, and the risk of T2DM.Conclusion: These results emphasize the potential protective role of polyphenol rich food groups (especially fruits and vegetables) in the prevention of T2DM.Keywords: polyphenols, flavonoids, phenolic acids, stilbenes, lignans, diabetes

Contains fulltext : 297328.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access), BACKGROUND: Reference intervals of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT(4)) are statistically defined by the 2·5-97·5th percentiles, without accounting for potential risk of clinical outcomes. We aimed to define the optimal healthy ranges of TSH and FT(4) based on the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. METHODS: This systematic review and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis identified eligible prospective cohorts through the Thyroid Studies Collaboration, supplemented with a systematic search via Embase, MEDLINE (Ovid), Web of science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Google Scholar from Jan 1, 2011, to Feb 12, 2017 with an updated search to Oct 13, 2022 (cohorts found in the second search were not included in the IPD). We included cohorts that collected TSH or FT(4), and cardiovascular outcomes or mortality for adults (aged ≥18 years). We excluded cohorts that included solely pregnant women, individuals with overt thyroid diseases, and individuals with cardiovascular disease. We contacted the study investigators of eligible cohorts to provide IPD on demographics, TSH, FT(4), thyroid peroxidase antibodies, history of cardiovascular disease and risk factors, medication use, cardiovascular disease events, cardiovascular disease mortality, and all-cause mortality. The primary outcome was a composite outcome including cardiovascular disease events (coronary heart disease, stroke, and heart failure) and all-cause mortality. Secondary outcomes were the separate assessment of cardiovascular disease events, all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular disease mortality. We performed one-step (cohort-stratified Cox models) and two-step (random-effects models) meta-analyses adjusting for age, sex, smoking, systolic blood pressure, diabetes, and total cholesterol. Item does not contain fulltext, IMPORTANCE: Chronic kidney disease (low estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] or albuminuria) affects approximately 14% of adults in the US. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate associations of lower eGFR based on creatinine alone, lower eGFR based on creatinine combined with cystatin C, and more severe albuminuria with adverse kidney outcomes, cardiovascular outcomes, and other health outcomes. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Individual-participant data meta-analysis of 27 503 140 individuals from 114 global cohorts (eGFR based on creatinine alone) and 720 736 individuals from 20 cohorts (eGFR based on creatinine and cystatin C) and 9 067 753 individuals from 114 cohorts (albuminuria) from 1980 to 2021. EXPOSURES: The Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration 2021 equations for eGFR based on creatinine alone and eGFR based on creatinine and cystatin C; and albuminuria estimated as urine albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR). MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The risk of kidney failure requiring replacement therapy, all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, acute kidney injury, any hospitalization, coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and peripheral artery disease. The analyses were performed within each cohort and summarized with random-effects meta-analyses. RESULTS: Within the population using eGFR based on creatinine alone (mean age, 54 years [SD, 17 years]; 51% were women; mean follow-up time, 4.8 years [SD, 3.3 years]), the mean eGFR was 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 (SD, 22 mL/min/1.73 m2) and the median UACR was 11 mg/g (IQR, 8-16 mg/g). Within the population using eGFR based on creatinine and cystatin C (mean age, 59 years [SD, 12 years]; 53% were women; mean follow-up time, 10.8 years [SD, 4.1 years]), the mean eGFR was 88 mL/min/1.73 m2 (SD, 22 mL/min/1.73 m2) and the median UACR was 9 mg/g (IQR, 6-18 mg/g). BACKGROUND Determining a thyroid hormone cutoff value in pregnancy is challenging issue and several approaches have been introduced to optimize a utility function We aimed to estimate the cutoff value of TSH using Bayesian method for prediction of preterm birth METHODS This study was a secondary analysis of the population based data collected prospectively within the framework of the Tehran Thyroid and Pregnancy Study A total of 1 538 pregnant women attending prenatal clinics RESULTS Using Bayesian method resulted a TSH cutoff of 3 97mIU L 95 CI 3 95 4 00 for distinguishing pregnant women at risk of preterm birth The cutoff was associated with acceptable positive predictive and negative predictive values 0 84 95 CI 0 80 0 88 and 0 92 95 CI 0 91 0 94 respectively In women who were negative for thyroid peroxides antibody TPOAb with sufficient urinary iodine concentration UIC the TSH cutoff of 3 92 mIU L 95 CI 3 70 4 had the highest predictive value whereas in TPOAb positive women with insufficient UIC the cutoff of 4 0 mIU L 95 CI 3 94 4 could better predict preterm birth Cutoffs estimated in this study are close to the revised TSH value of 4 0mIU L which is currently recommended by the American Thyroid Association CONCLUSION Regardless of TPOAb status or iodine insufficiency risk of preterm labor is increased in pregnant women with TSH value of 3 92 mIU L these women may benefit from Levothyroxine LT4 therapy for preventing preterm birth

Abstract

Background and Objective: Hypertension in long time can cause cardiovascular disorders and increase chance of stroke. This study was done to determine the association between some dietary factors and risk of hypertension. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on the fourth phase (2008-11) of Tehran lipid and glucose study (TLGS). In this study 6089 subjects (2807 males and 3282 females), aged 19-70 years, were participated and dietary, demographic, anthropometric and blood pressure of each subject were collected. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated and reliable food frequency questionnaire with 147-items. Odds ratio for hypertension according to quartiles of dietary factors was determined using logistic regression with adjustment for confounder variables. Results: The rate of hypertension was 29.8%. Mean of weight, body mass index, waist circumference, prevalence of abdominal obesity and alliteration in the hypertensive subjects were significantly higher than normotensive subjects (P

Abstract

The hydrodynamic performance of turbulent flows in circular pipes equipped with screen-type static mixers is numerically assessed in this study. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model is used to study the effect of changing the operating conditions and reactor configuration on the flow field. The accuracy of the numerical results is validated by comparing pressure drop predictions to empirical correlations where a maximum relative error of 13.3% is recorded. The macro-mixing performance of screen type static mixers is also assessed using residence time distributions. The study shows that the flow through screens is three-dimensional by nature with secondary flows being prominent near the pipe walls. Moreover, the presence of the screen has a major impact on the turbulent velocity profile both up- and down-stream. The flow field and velocity gradients are interpreted using strain rate and vorticity. These parameters also show that the flow through screens is highly dispersive where 39.3% of the reactor volume has an extensional efficiency value greater than 0.6. This explains their good performance in processing multiphase flows and gives an insight on how to design systems that maximize this dispersive effect in their volume. The residence time distribution study shows that the presence of screens renders the flow closer to plug flow with the effect being more pronounced using finer mesh screens operating at high flow velocities.
