The North Atlantic sea surface temperature (SST) cold bias is a remarkable feature of general circulation models (GCMs). This bias is a primary concern in climate science because they directly affect the skill of predictions and the confidence in projections on the North Hemisphere climate. Here the characterization and causes of the cold bias are investigated by combining Atmospheric, Ocean, and Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project (AMIP6/OMIP6/CMIP6) simulations with observations. It is found that the cold North Atlantic SST bias in CMIP6 is primarily caused by weak heat transport in ocean models induced by weak Gulf Stream currents. The weak atmospheric fluctuations induced shallow mixed layer depth also plays a role. These biases are much reduced by increasing the atmospheric and oceanic model resolution to around 1º and 0.25º in HadGEM3-GC31-MM, respectively. The radiation heat flux bias in AMIP6 and CMIP6 model are small. The large turbulent heat flux bias linked to SST bias in CMIP6 models is not shown in AMIP6 models, which implies that the SST bias dominates the turbulent heat flux bias in coupled models. The identification of morphophysiological traits responsible for a better plant behavior when infected is useful for cultivar selection, and become crucial for breeding. We investigated the morphophysiological behavior of coffee genotypes before and after inoculation with the pathogen Hemileia vastatrix, causal agent of coffee rust. With multivariate techniques we identified the characteristics that most contribute to total genetic divergence of the genotypes. Ten genotypes of Coffea arabica from the Germplasm Bank of Coffee from Minas Gerais were sown in a nursery and then take to a greenhouse with controlled temperature and humidity. After one month of acclimatization, the artificial inoculation with the fungus H. vastatrix was carried out. The anatomical and physiological evaluations were performed 1 day before inoculation and 160 days after inoculation. When the first symptom emerged, plants were evaluated according to a descriptive scale for coffee rust. We observed significant differences in rust severity and ostiole opening between genotypes. Different groups were formed by the K-means method, based on morphophysiological characteristics. This shows that genetic variability exists between the coffee genotypes evaluated before and after inoculation with the pathogen. The most important characteristics that contributed to the total genetic divergence were xylem vessel diameter and stomatal conductance. O amendoim forrageiro (Arachis pintoi Krapov. & W.C. Greg.) é uma leguminosa de grande interesse para a pecuária brasileira, porém sua utilização no Brasil vem sendo limitada pelo alto preço e baixa oferta das sementes no mercado. Cultivares com maior produtividade e/ou maior densidade de sementes podem contribuir para mitigar esse problema. Progênies com tamanho reduzido da semente foram selecionadas a partir da cultivar BRS Mandobi, porém torna-se necessário verificar se há variabilidade genética entre e dentro das progênies para diversos caracteres agronômicos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar parâmetros genéticos para subsidiar a seleção de progênies de amendoim forrageiro oriundas da cv. BRS Mandobi, verificando a existência de variabilidade genética, estimando coeficientes de herdabilidade e correlacionando os caracteres como auxílio à seleção. Foram avaliadas 30 progênies de amendoim forrageiro com delineamento de blocos ao acaso com oito repetições, com informação dentro das parcelas. Foram obtidas estatísticas descritivas e realizadas análises de variância para 29 características, estimando-se, em seguida, os parâmetros genéticos. As médias foram agrupadas pelo método de otimização de Tocher. Verificou-se existência de variabilidade genética para a maioria das características agronômicas, o que viabiliza a seleção de progênies superiores. A seleção entre progênies é mais promissora que a seleção dentro de progênies. Altas estimativas do coeficiente de correlação indicam que a seleção indireta pode ser realizada para determinados caracteres. Há tendência mediana das progênies com maior produção de forragem produzirem sementes de maior tamanho, o que pode dificultar a seleção concomitante para aumento da produção de forragem e redução do tamanho da semente. In 2014, 20% of the 4th graders had an unsatisfactory evaluation in the national exam of Portuguese language. This percentage is similar in the 6th and 9th grades indicating that a large number of Portuguese students have reading difficulties. The e-learning platform “I’m still learning” was developed to provide a systematic intervention with students (from 1st to 4th grade) experiencing reading difficulties. This free access platform provides a set of didactic sequences to promote phonological awareness, word reading, reading fluency and comprehension. Informal tasks for reading assessment are also included. The effect of α-amylase degradation on the release of gentamicin from starch-conjugated chitosan microparticles was investigated up to 60 days. Scanning electron microscopic observations showed an increase in the porosity and surface roughness of the microparticles as well as reduced diameters. This was confirmed by 67% weight loss of the microparticles in the presence of α-amylase. Over time, a highly porous matrix was obtained leading to increased permeability and increased water uptake with possible diffusion of gentamicin. Indeed, a faster release of gentamicin was observed with α-amylase. Starch-conjugated chitosan particles are non-toxic and highly biocompatible for an osteoblast (SaOs-2) and fibroblast (L929) cell line as well as adipose-derived stem cells. Gargaphia paula Drake, 1939 is a neotropical species, which according to the literature, occurs in Brazil, Panama and Peru. Here we present 6 species of Arachis (Fabaceae) as the first host plant records, as well as two new country records, Costa Rica and Ecuador, and two new state records for Brazil.
