- Abstract
Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear understanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5,6,7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8,9,10,11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world's most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepresented in biodiversity databases.13,14,15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may eliminate pieces of the Amazon's biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological communities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple organism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region's vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most neglected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lost.

- Abstract
Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear understanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5,6,7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8,9,10,11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world's most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepresented in biodiversity databases.13,14,15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may eliminate pieces of the Amazon's biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological communities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple organism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region's vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most neglected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lost.

This article has the purpose of describing suborder Heteroptera’s ecological aspects and associating them with some abiotic factors and environmental particulars. The gathering was made in six rivers, with a 50m transect divided among five 10m spots, where species were ghathered using an aquatic entomological D-net (rapiché), a sieve and manual scavenging on substrates incluinding leaves, trunks, macrophytes, roots, and others. Before the species gathering, it was obtained riparian vegetation data, bed types data, backwater and river áreas data, temperature data, pH data, electrical conductivity data, width data, depth data, velocity data, flow and canopy cover data. Besides, taxon richness data in the river were estimated by the non-parametric Jackknife richness test; for the physical and environmental parameters analysis, were used the Principal Coordinate Analysis and Redundancy Analysis; and the association between specimen was verified by the Bray-Curtis similarity matrix, after the data were transformed by log (x + 1). Were gathered 269 aquatic heteropterans, identified in two infraorders Gerromorpha and Nepomorpha with seven families and 17 genus. The most heterogeneous spots showed a higher richness of genus, although morphology and habitat specificity might influence their preference. The Jatobá river showed the greatest richness, with the analyses. This river had a better correlation with majority of genus, while the Baixa Grande Creek had a greater relation with most of the environmental variables and only a relation with the genus Pelocoris, and the genus which correlated with the substrate in a better way was Brachymetra. Richness and Ecology’s knowledging ascertains the ecosystems’ sensitivity and the living genus is required for conservation. En ese artículo, se describen los aspectos ecológicos del suborden Heteroptera y asociarlo con algunos factores físico-químicos y ambientales. Las recolecciones se realizaron en seis arroyos, realizándose un transecto de 50m en cada sitio, dividido en cinco puntos de 10m, en los que los ejemplares fueron recolectados con la ayuda de una red entomológica acuática en D (rapiche), cedazo y recolección manual. en sustratos como hojas, troncos, macrófitas, raíces, entre otros. Antes de la recolección de la muestra, se obtuvieron datos sobre vegetación ribereña, tipos de lecho, áreas de remanso y corriente, temperatura, pH, conductividad eléctrica, ancho, profundidad, velocidad, flujo y cobertura del dosel. Los datos de riqueza de los taxones por corriente se estimaron mediante la prueba de riqueza no paramétrica Jackknife; Para el análisis de los parámetros físicos y ambientales, el Análisis de Coordenadas Principales, Análisis de Redundancia; la asociación entre las muestras se verificó mediante la matriz de similitud de Bray-Curtis, los datos transformados por log (x + 1). Se recolectaron un total de 269 heteroptera acuáticos, identificados en dos infraórdenes Gerromorpha y Nepomorpha con siete familias y 17 géneros. Los sitios que son más heterogéneos entre sí tienen una mayor riqueza de especies, aunque la morfología y la especificidad del hábitat pueden influir en su preferencia. El arroyo Jatobá tuvo la mayor riqueza, junto a las análisis, el arroyo tuvo una mejor correlación con la mayoría de las especies mientras que el Baixa Grande tuvo una relación más alta con la mayoría de las variables ambientales y solo una relación con la especie Pelocoris, y el género que mejor se correlacionó con la el sustrato fue Brachymetra, el conocimiento de la riqueza y la ecología determina la sensibilidad de los ecosistemas y las especies que habitan en él es necesario para su conservación. O objetivo foi descrever aspectos ecológicos da subordem Heteroptera e associar a alguns fatores abióticos e características ambientais. As coletas foram realizadas em seis igarapés, sendo realizado em cada local um transecto de 50m, dividido em cinco pontos de 10m, nos quais os espécimes foram coletados com auxílio de uma rede entomológica aquática rede em D (rapiché), peneira e catação manual em substratos como folhas, troncos, macrófitas, raízes, entre outros. Antes das coletas dos espécimes, obteve-se dados da vegetação ripária, tipos de leito, áreas de remanso e correnteza, temperatura, pH, condutividade elétrica, largura, profundidade, velocidade, vazão e cobertura de dossel. Os dados da riqueza dos táxons por igarapé foram estimados pelo teste de riqueza não-paramétricos de Jackknife; para análise dos paramentos físico e ambientais foram utilizados as Análise de Coordenadas Principais, Análise de Redundância; sendo que a associação entre as amostras foi verificada pela matriz de similaridade de Bray-Curtis, após os dados serem transformados por log (x + 1). Foram coletados 269 heteropteros aquáticos, identificados em duas infraordens Gerromorpha e Nepomorpha com sete famílias e 17 gêneros. Os Locais mais heterogêneos entre si apresentam uma maior riqueza de gêneros, apesar da morfologia e especificidade de habitat possa influenciar sua preferência. O riacho Jatobá se apresentou a maior riqueza, juntamente com as análises o riacho teve uma melhor correlação a maioria dos gêneros enquanto que o Baixa Grande teve maior relação com a maioria das variáveis ambientes e apenas relação com o gênero Pelocoris, e o gênero que melhor se correlacionou com o substrato foi Brachymetra, o conhecimento da riqueza e da ecologia determina a sensibilidade de ecossistemas e os gêneros que nele vivem se faz necessário para conservação.

Based on material recently collected in Piauí state, northeastern Brazil, we present new records for seven species of Gerromorpha (Insecta, Hemiptera, Heteroptera). Rheumatobates crassifemur schroederi Hungerford, 1954 (Gerridae); Mesovelia mulsanti White, 1879 (Mesoveliidae); and Paravelia polhemusi Rodrigues, Moreira, Nieser, Chen & Melo, 2014 (Veliidae) are reported from the state for the first time.

Adults were collected from the margin of Rio Itapecuru, a large river flowing through a landscape highly impacted by agriculture and grazing. The substrate of this river was composed of sand with accumulated leaf litter and plant material in some areas, and rocks in some reaches. The above record adds to previous reports of this taxon being primarily associated with large rivers, such as the Rio Cricaré (Espírito Santo) (Gonçalves et al. 2017) and the Rio Indaiá Grande (Mato Grosso do Sul) (Righi-Cavallaro & Lecci 2010). Our material has the same pattern of spots on the head, pronotum, and wings as illustrated by Ribeiro & Rafael (2009) (Figs. 3A and 3C). The penial armature of the male seems to vary, with the apex of our specimens in lateral view strongly rounded (Fig. 3F), different from the tapered and acute apex illustrated by Froehlich (2001) and Ribeiro & Rafael (2009). This species is widespread, reported from areas covered by tropical savanna or Cerrado in the states of Maranhão, Mato Grosso and Tocantins; and by Amazon Forest in the states of Amazonas and Roraima (Ribeiro & Santos 2018; Rippel et al. 2019; Menezes et al. 2020) (Fig. 1D). In the State of Maranhão, the species is also widespread, occurring in the East (municipality of Codó), South (municipality of Carolina), and West of the State (municipality of Imperatriz) (Fig. 1D).

Anacroneuria leccii sp. nov. Carvalho, Almeida & Lima (Figs. 1B, 4 A–F) Material examined. BR, MA. Holotype male: Carolina, PARNA Chapada das Mesas, Riacho Estiva, 07º06’59.8”S, 47º21’21.0”W, 20–30/IV/2013, F. Limeira-de-Oliveira and T. A. Silva (CZMA). Description. Holotype male: forewing length, 9 mm. General color pale yellow. Head pale yellow and pronotum yellowish; M-line indistinguishable (Fig. 4A). Antennae yellowish to ochraceous, scape and pedicel yellowish, flagellum yellowish at the base becoming ochraceous from the third antennomere. Palpi ochraceous. Pronotum pale yellow with two darker stripes laterally, anterior corners not rounded, posterior corners rounded (Fig. 4A). Membrane and veins of wings white, hindwings almost translucent; posterior radius, base of anterior cubital and anal veins of forewings darker. Seven cells of various sizes between the medial and anterior cubital veins. Legs pale yellow with a dark stripe dorsally on distal part of the femur. Cerci pale yellow. Male. Sternum IX with small bristles on the posterior area. Hammer as a simple cone (Fig. 4D). Penial armature (Figs. 4 E–G) truncate apically with a pair of distal vesicles. In the lateral view (Fig. 4G), there are small spines on the keel. In the ventral view (Fig. 4F), there are subapical shoulders. In dorsal view (Fig. 4E), behind the vesicles and the hooks, the shoulders fold inwards. Hooks regularly curved and acute apically. Female and nymph. Unknown. Remarks. The penial armature of A. leccii is similar to A. novateutonia Froehlich, 2002. In dorsal view, both species have subapical shoulders, however, in the new species the sclerotized portion is narrower at the base, gradually expanding to the subapical shoulders. In the same view, the apex of the armature of A. novateutonia has a regular shape, narrowing uniformly to the top, which is irregular in the new species. In lateral view, the keel of A. novateutonia is flattened with lateral striae, in the new species spines are present. The penial armature of A. leccii has also prominent vesicles and is of a different color including different maculation pattern of the head and pronotum than A. novateutonia. Etymology. The name honors Lucas S. The distribution of aquatic insects of the orders Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) can be influenced by factors such as water quality, habitat integrity and biogeography. The present study evaluated the structure of EPT assemblages in streams in the Cerrado, a global biodiversity hotspot. Samples were collected from 20 streams in two protected areas: Parque Estadual do Mirador (10 streams) and Parque Nacional da Chapada das Mesas (10 streams). A total of 1987 specimens were collected, representing 46 taxa of EPT. The two study areas did not differ significantly in taxonomic richness of EPT genera (t = -1.119, p = 0.279) and abundance of individuals (t = 0.268, p = 0.791) but did differ in genus composition (Pseudo-F = 2.088, R2 = 0.103, p = 0.015) and environmental variables (Pseudo-F = 2,282, R2 = 0.112, p = 0.014). None of the tested environmental variables were correlated with the community but a spatial filter captured an effect of the spatial distribution of streams. The region of the study is located in MATOPIBA, which is the last agricultural frontier of the Cerrado. Therefore, it is important that there is police and monitoring so that the “Parque Estadual do Mirador” and the “Parque Nacional da Chapada das Mesas” continue to play their role in conserving biodiversity in the future. Resumo: A distribuição de insetos aquáticos das ordens Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera e Trichoptera (EPT) pode ser influenciada por fatores como qualidade da água, integridade do habitat e biogeografia. O presente estudo avaliou a estrutura das assembleias do EPT em riachos do Cerrado, um hotspot de biodiversidade global. Foram coletadas amostras em 20 riachos em duas áreas protegidas: Parque Estadual do Mirador (10 riachos) e Parque Nacional da Chapada das Mesas (10 riachos). Um total de 1987 espécimes foram coletados, representando 46 táxons de EPT. As duas áreas de estudo não diferiram significativamente na riqueza taxonômica dos gêneros EPT (t= -1,119; p= 0,279) e abundância de indivíduos (t= 0,268; p= 0,791), mas diferiram na composição do gênero (Pseudo-F= 2,088, R2= 0,103; p= 0,015) e variáveis ambientais (Pseudo-F= 2,282; R2= 0,112; p= 0,014). Nenhuma das variáveis ambientais testadas foi correlacionada com a comunidade, mas um filtro espacial capturou um efeito da distribuição espacial dos riachos. A região do estudo está localizada em MATOPIBA, que é a última fronteira agrícola do Cerrado. Portanto, é importante que exista fiscalização e monitoramento para que o “Parque Estadual do Mirador” e o “Parque Nacional da Chapada das Mesas” continuem desempenhando seu papel na conservação da biodiversidade no futuro.

Objective: To analyze the physical and socioeconomic aspects that affect the quality of life of nursing professionals. Methodology: This is a descriptive exploratory research, cross-sectional with qualitative approach, conducted through a semi-structured questionnaire containing open and closed questions that deal with the factors that affect the quality of life of nurses. Data were collected during March and April, where they were analyzed through semi-directional interviews, and transcribed in the text according to the selected classes. Results: The sample consisted of 25 nursing professionals of both sexes. Wage income was shown to range from 1-3 minimum wages (52%), professionals work 30-40hrs (96%) per week, and 20% reported having another job or source of extra income. Conclusion: The level of satisfaction about the nurses' quality of life was satisfactory, because they work with what they like, and have more affinity, arousing a pleasure to help others, making them feel useful and important. However, it is noteworthy that it is necessary a salary adjustment, reduction of the workload, healthy environments and recognition of nursing professionals. Objetivo: analizar los aspectos físicos y socioeconómicos que afectan la calidad de vida de los profesionales de enfermería. Metodología: Esta es una investigación transversal exploratoria descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo, realizada a través de un cuestionario semiestructurado que contiene preguntas abiertas y cerradas que abordan los factores que afectan la calidad de vida de las enfermeras. Los datos se recopilaron durante los meses de marzo y abril, donde se analizaron mediante entrevistas semidireccionales y se transcribieron en el texto de acuerdo con las clases seleccionadas. Resultados: La muestra estuvo conformada por 25 profesionales de enfermería de ambos sexos. Se demostró que los ingresos salariales oscilan entre 1-3 salarios mínimos (52%), los profesionales trabajan 30-40 horas (96%) por semana, y 20% informaron tener otro trabajo o fuente de ingresos adicionales. Conclusión: El nivel de satisfacción con respecto a la calidad de vida de las enfermeras fue satisfactorio, porque trabajan con lo que les gusta y tienen más afinidad, generando el placer de ayudar a los demás, haciéndoles sentir útiles e importantes. Sin embargo, cabe destacar que es necesario un ajuste salarial, reducción de la carga de trabajo, ambientes saludables y reconocimiento de los profesionales de enfermería. Objetivo: analisar os aspectos físicos e socioeconômicos que interferem na qualidade de vida do profissional de enfermagem. Conclusão: O nível de satisfação acerca da qualidade de vida dos enfermeiros foi satisfatório, pelo fato de trabalharem com o que gosta, e tem mais afinidade, despertando um prazer em poder ajudar o próximo, fazendo sentir-se útil e importante. Contudo, vale ressaltar que se faz necessário um reajuste salarial, redução da carga horária, ambientes salubres e reconhecimento dos profissionais de enfermagem.

Parasitism refers to an association between the parasite and the host with a loss in the association. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the presence of enteroparasitoses in students of the municipal public network. The study was carried out in municipal schools in urban and peri-urban areas. Analyzes of the presence of enteroparasitoses in the feces of the students were performed by the method of Hoffman Pons & Janer. By means of the analyzes it was observed that 55% of the children investigated had at least one parasite in the organism, in which the main species found was Ascaris lumbricoides. Regarding the location of the school, students from peri-urban schools had a higher percentage of parasitism than those from schools located in urban areas. Evaluating the epidemiological aspects for the presence of intestinal parasites, it was verified that the students have the habit of consuming raw foods and walking barefoot. It is concluded that the majority of the students evaluated in the study were parasitized, this fact can be directly related to the hygienic habits of the students. El parasitismo se refiere a una asociación entre el parásito y el hospedador, habiendo un perjuicio en la asociación. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la presencia de enteroparasitosas en alumnos de la red pública municipal. El estudio ocurrió en escuelas de la red municipal de enseñanza, en áreas urbanas y peri-urbanas. Se realizaron análisis de la presencia de enteroparasitosis en heces de los alumnos por el método de Hoffman Pons & Janer. Por medio de los análisis se observó que el 55% de los niños investigados poseía por lo menos un parásito en el organismo, en el cual la principal especie encontrada fue el Ascaris lumbricoides. En cuanto a la ubicación de la escuela, los alumnos de escuelas peri-urbanas presentaron mayor porcentaje de parasitismo que los de escuelas situadas áreas urbanas. Evaluando los aspectos epidemiológicos para la presencia de parásitos intestinales, se verificó que los alumnos poseen la costumbre de consumir alimentos crudos y caminar descalzos. Se concluye que la mayoría de los alumnos evaluados en el estudio se presentaron parasitados, ese hecho puede estar directamente relacionado a los hábitos higiénicos de los alumnos. O parasitismo refere-se a uma associação entre o parasito e o hospedeiro havendo um prejuízo na associação. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a presença de enteroparasitoses em alunos da rede pública municipal. O estudo ocorreu em escolas da rede municipal de ensino, em áreas urbanas e peri-urbanas. Foi realizado análises da presença de enteroparasitoses em fezes dos alunos pelo método de Hoffman Pons & Janer. Por meio das análises observou-se que 55% das crianças investigadas possuía pelo menos um parasita no organismo, no qual a principal espécie encontrada foi o Ascaris lumbricoides. Quanto a localização da escola, os alunos de escolas peri-urbanas apresentaram maior percentual de parasitismo do que os de escolas situadas áreas urbanas. Avaliando os aspectos epidemiológicos para a presença de parasitas intestinais, verificou-se que os alunos possuem o costume de consumirem alimentos crus e andarem descalços. Conclui-se que a maioria dos alunos avaliados no estudo apresentaram-se parasitados, esse fato pode estar diretamente relacionado aos hábitos higiênicos dos alunos.

Puri aleca sp. nov. (Figs. 1–5) Description. Holotype male: total length (mandible to genitalia) 44 mm; maximum width 5 mm; maximum length of the head 6 mm; maximum width of the head 5 mm; maximum length of the antennae 23 mm; maximum length of the pronotum 5 mm; maximum width of the pronotum 3 mm; maximum length of the forewings 53 mm; maximum length of the hindwings 42 mm. Body densely setose, reddish brown. Head subtriangular and robust, with short and golden filiform setae, long and yellowish filiform setae and dark spiniform setae. Compound eyes prominent. Antennae subserrate, short, less than one half of forewing. Prothorax subcylindrical, longer than wide; meso- and metathorax distinctly robust, wider than long. Legs with long and yellowish filiform setae and spiniform setae dark brown setae; tarsal claws simple. Wings hyaline with dark macula, veins alternating dark and pale. Forewing longer than hindwings; SC fused with R on the rear quarter of the wing; with three crossveins between R and Rs; Rs four branched, anterior branch trifurcated, posterior branch simple; three crossveins between Rs and M; M trifurcated, MA simple, MP two branched; three crossveins between MA e MP; one basal crossvein between M and Cu; three crossveins between posterior branch of MP and Cu; two crossveins between basal CuA and CuP; one crossvein between CuA 1 and CuA 2; two crossvein between Cu and 1 A; 1 A two-branched; 2 A with anterior branch not fused to 1 A; one crossvein between 1 A and 2 A placed between footstalks of 1 A and 2 A; 2 A strongly sinuated (Fig. 2 a). Hindwing with MA simple; basal r-m crossvein reconnects to M by an additional short branch (Fig. 2 b). Ninth tergum anterior and posteriorly truncate, and wider than long, in dorsal view; with ventral margin acutely produced, in lateral view. Ninth sternum as long as ninth tergum; connected by a membrane to basal portion of tenth gonocoxite. Ninth gonocoxite and gonostylus reduced and absent, respectively. Tenth tergum as long as or longer than ninth tergum; narrowing towards apex; with spinous setae feebly modified; without strongly sclerotized distal claws; with proximal inner portion strongly sclerotized, in dorsal view; with base narrower than one-half of ninth tergum and proximal margin oblique and in lateral view; cercus distinctly prominent and fused to base of tenth tergum (Figs. 3 & 4). Tenth gonocoxite not bifurcated, with apex incised; mostly visible, curved dorsally and with distal half feebly widened, in lateral view; with lateral arm longer than one-half of the median plate; with median plate longer than wide (Fig. 5). Lateral lobes present, separated from tenth gonocoxite; connected by a broad and feebly sclerotized plate. Variation. The specific epithet is an expression in Puri language “ah! lekah!” meaning “I live here”. Distribution. Itamonte Municipality, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Parsimony analysis. A parsimony analysis was performed in PAUP* 4 b 10 (Swofford 2002), with exhaustive search branch-and-bound and characters unordered and of equal weight. Bootstrap values for clades were calculated with 1000 replicates and 100 random stepwise additions of taxa using a general heuristic search Tree bisection and reconnection (TBR). Bremer’s decay index was calculated with TreeRot (Sorenson & Franzosa 2007) and PAUP*4.0b 10 and visualized in FigTree (Rambaut 2009). Discussion. A phylogeny by Liu & Yang (2006) proposed two main clades in Chauliodinae: one Eastern/ Northern Clade containing the five Asian and two Nearctic genera (Ctenochauliodes ((Anachauliodes, Chauliodes) ((Neochauliodes, Nigronia) (Sinochauliodes, Parachauliodes Weele)))) and other Western/Southern Clade (Archichauliodes (Neohermes, Protochauliodes)). However, in this analysis the Afrotropical genera Madachauliodes, Platychauliodes and Taeniochauliodes and the Nearctic genera Dysmicohermes, Nothochauliodes and Orohermes were not included. A new data matrix was constructed by coding morphological characters of P. aleca and the new matrix was modified by coding of character states 7, 8, 16, 36 and 44 into Liu & Yang (2006) data matrix, using the character states in Table 1. A parsimony analysis of the new data matrix recovered three most parsimonious trees (L = 101, CI = 0,66, RI = 0,87, RC = 0,58), of which the strict consensus tree was similar to that of Liu & Yang (2006). Differences lie in the inclusion of Puri as a sister-group to Ctenochauliodes in the Clade 1 of these authors (Fig. 6, left tree). The clade Puri + Ctenochauliodes (supported by bootstrap = 63 and Bremer’s decay = 2) is supported by the unambiguous synapomorphic state of the broad plate between lateral lobes (Liu & Yang (2006) character 52); and the homoplastic states of the ninth tergum in lateral view with ventral margin acutely produced (27), that is shared with the Neochauliodes lineage, and lateral lobes connected by a sclerotized plate (51), shared with the genus Nigronia. The character states basal r-m crossvein of hindwings modified (23), tenth tergum narrowing towards apex (31), and lateral lobes present (49) are presented as ambiguous and may represent homoplastic states. In our analysis, Puri is supported by homoplastic states of the male antenna subserrate (7) shared with Parachauliodes and Nigronia serricornis (Say) (Liu & Yang (2006) indicate that the type antenna is an important diagnostic character at the generic level); coloration of veins alternating dark and pale pattern (13), shared with the Anachauliodes lineage; crossvein between 1 A and 2 A of forewing placed between footstalks of 1 A and 2 A (19) and ninth sternum with membranous apical process (29), shared with the Neochauliodes lineage + Parachauliodes lineage; ninth tergum in dorsal view anteriorly truncate (25), shared with clade 2; tenth tergum in lateral view with proximal margin vertical (36), shared with S. fujianensis (Yang & Yang) + S. maculosus (Liu & Yang); tenth sternum without bifurcation distinct (46), shared with Anachauliodes and with the Neochauliodes lineage + Parachauliodes lineage; and the plate between lateral lobes feebly sclerotized (53), shared with Nigronia. A recent phylogeny by Liu et al. (2012), including all extant and fossil fishfly genera using fewer character states and numerous character states left uncoded for some genera, supported Lui & Yang (2006) original Clade 1 with some differences in the relationship between the genera (Ctenochauliodes ((Nigronia (Neochauliodes (Sinochauliodes, Parachauliodes))) (Anachauliodes, Chauliodes))). In this analysis, the Lui & Yang (2006) Clade 2 was not supported, with Archichauliodes (+ Apochauliodes) more closely related to Lui & Yang (2006) Clade 1 than to (Neohermes, Protochauliodes). A reanalysis of Liu et al. (2012) data matrix with Puri included (Table 2) recovered thirty-six equal parsimonious trees (L = 70, CI = 0,60, RI = 0,84, RC = 0,50), which the strict consensus tree presented numerous polytomies, varying from those found by Liu et al. (2012). Our second analysis (Fig. 6, right tree) included Puri as sister-group to Anachauliodes lineage + Neochauliodes lineage (Liu et al. 2012) (supported by bootstrap = 51 and Bremer’s decay = 1) and not closely related to Ctenochauliodes, as obtained in our analysis of Liu & Yang (2006) modified data matrix. In this analysis, Puri is supported by ambiguous character states of the forewing with 1 A connected by a crossvein at stem of 2 A (Liu et al. 2012) character 6, homoplastic states shared with Liu et al. (2012) Archichauliodes lineage and Neochauliodes lineage. The Clade Puri + Liu et al. Liu & Yang (2006) proposed monophyly of New World fishfly genera based on the male characters of long filiform antenna, ninth tergum anteriorly truncate and tenth tergum in dorsal view with proximal inner portion almost membranous, and female gonocoxite with lateral sclerotized plate subquadrate. However, this hypothesis was rejected by Lui et al. (2012), demonstrating that the Oriental genera of fishflies, Anachauliodes, Ctenochauliodes, Neochauliodes, Parachauliodes and Sinochauliodes and the Nearctic genera Chauliodes and Nigronia are probably derived from Gondwanan ancestors. Our analysis indicated a relationship of Puri to the Nearctic and/or Oriental genera, also rejecting the hypothesis of monophyly of New World fishfly genera.

Puri gen. nov. Type species. Puri aleca sp. nov. Cardoso-Costa, Azevedo & Ferreira-Jr Generic characters. Male: antennae subserrate, short, less than ½ length of forewing; wings alternating dark and pale venation; forewings with crossvein between 1 A and 2 A placed between footstalks of 1 A and 2 A; hindwings with basal r-m crossvein reconnected to M by an additional short branch; dorsally, ninth tergum anteriorly truncate and, laterally, ventral margin acutely produced; ninth sternum with membranous apical process; proximal margin of tenth tergum vertical; laterally tenth gonocoxite with bifurcation indistinct; lateral lobes connected by a broad and feebly sclerotized plate. Etymology. This new genus is named in honor of the native Indian tribe “ Puri ” that inhabited the region of Mantiqueira Mountain Range of southeastern Brazil. Taxonomic notes. In the male, the short antennae and dorsally the proximal inner portion of tenth tergum strongly sclerotized allies Puri with Anachauliodes Kimmins, Chauliodes, Ctenochauliodes Weele, Neochauliodes Weele, Nigronia and Sinochauliodes Liu & Yang. However the new genus can be distinguished from these Nearctic and Oriental genera by the ninth tergum anteriorly truncate. This latter characteristic allies Puri to the fishfly genera Archichauliodes, Platychauliodes Esben-Petersen, Madachauliodes Paulian, Dysmicohermes, Orohermes, Neohermes, Protochauliodes, Nothochauliodes and Taeniochauliodes Esben-Petersen. The 2 A sessile in forewing and the broad plate between lateral lobes allies Puri to Ctenochauliodes, but the tenth gonocoxite is not bifuricate and the subserrate antennae of the male differentiate the new genus.

A taxonomia, bionomia e estrutura da comunidade de larvas de Megaloptera (Insecta) associadas a alguns fatores abióticos dos igarapés, foram estudadas para os Estados do Amazonas e Roraima, Brasil. Foram amostrados 120 igarapés nos dois Estados no período de 2006 a 2008, onde duas famílias dessa ordem foram coletadas. Corydalidae com dois gêneros (Corydalus e Chloronia), sete espécies e duas morfoespécies: Corydalus affinis, Corydalus contrerasi sp. n., Corydalus batesii, Corydalus ignotus, Corydalus flavicornis, Corydalus nubilus, os morfótipos Corydalus sp. 1 e Corydalus sp. 2 e Chloronia hieroglyphica. A família Sialidae foi representada apenas por uma espécie (Protosialis flammata). Larvas de último estádio das espécies C. contrerasi sp. n., C. affinis e C. flavicornis foram descritas; essas duas últimas foram registradas pela primeira vez para Roraima e para o Brasil, respectivamente. O número de espécies de Megaloptera registrados para o Estado de Roraima foi ampliado para sete, para o Brasil 20 e, para a Região Neotropical 64. Chaves para identificar larvas em nível de família, gênero e espécie para a área de estudo foram fornecidas. Em condições de laboratório, o tempo de desenvolvimento embriológico de C. nubilus foi de aproximadamente duas semanas, similar ao relatado para espécies da Região Neartica. Larvas de Corydalus, Chloronia e Protosialis, de tamanhos similares aos adultos coletados para a área de estudo, foram mantidas em condições de laboratório por no máximo 332, 180 e 86 dias, respectivamente, até a emergência do adulto. Para esses mesmos gêneros, o tempo de duração do período de pré pupa foi de 7, 7 e 5 dias, respectivamente e, do estágio pupal foi de 14, 10 e 5 dias, respectivamente. Larvas de Cantharidae (Coleoptera) e Chloropidae (Diptera) foram observadas predando ovos de Corydalus spp. O comportamento sexual de C. affinis foi descrito pela primeira vez. A riqueza e abundância de espécies foram maiores para o Estado do Amazonas do que para o Estado de Roraima, e a composição de espécies nestes dois Estados diferiu. Apesar de algumas espécies terem sido relacionadas com alguns dos fatores abióticos analisados, a maioria foi generalista, ocorrendo em variadas condições ambientais. Alteração ambiental (desmatamento) não foi relacionada com alterações na comunidade de Megaloptera. Os resultados do presente estudo é um exemplo da importância da integração de estudos taxonômicos e bio-ecológicos, especialmente quando se trata de organismos que habitam ecossistemas aquáticos, cuja taxonomia é ainda, mundialmente, incipiente. The taxonomy, bionomy and the community structure of Megaloptera larvae associated with physical-chemical and environmental factors were studied in Amazonas and Roraima states, Brazil. A total of 120 streams were sampled between April and December 2006. Additional samples were taken ibetween September 2005 and December 2007. Two Megaloptera families were sampled during the study: Corydalidae with two genera (Corydalus and Chloronia), seven species (Corydalus affinis, Corydalus batesii, Corydalus ignotus, Corydalus flavicornis, Corydalus nubilus, Corydalus sp. n. and Chloronia hieroglyphica) and two morphotypes (Corydalus sp. 1, Corydalus sp. 2). Sialide was represented by only one species (Protosialis flammata). Last-instar larvae of C. contrerasi sp. n., C. affinis and C. flavicornis were described; the last two of these species were registered for the first time in Roraima and in Brazil, respectively. The number of Megaloptera species for Roraima state increased to seven, for Brazil to 20 and for the Neotropical Region to 64. A key was developed to identify last-instar Megaloptera larvae to family, genus and species/morphotype levels based on specimens collected in the study area. In the laboratory, the period of time for embryological development of C. nubilus was approximately two weeks, similar to the periods for species in the Neartic Region. Larvae of Corydalus, Chloronia and Protosialis, with body sizes similar to the sizes of adults collected in the study area were maintained under laboratory conditions for a maximum of 332, 180 and 86 days, respectively, until adult emergence. For these same genera, the endurance times of the pre-pupae were 7, 7 and 5 days, respectively and, for the pupal stage, the times were 14, 10 and 5 days, respectively. Larvae of Cantharidae (Coleoptera) and Chloropidae (Diptera) were observed preying on Corydalus spp. eggs. The sexual behavior of C. affinis is described for the first time. Richness and abundance of Megaloptera larvae were higher in streams sampled in Amazonas state than in Roraima; community composition also was different in these two states. Although some species were related to abiotic factors we measured, the majority were generalists.occuring in varied environmental conditions. Anthropogenic impact (deforestation) did not have an effect on the Megaloptera community. The results of the present study provide an example of the importance of integration between taxonomic and bio-ecological studies, especially for organisms that inhabit aquatic ecosystems, in which taxonomy is still incipient throughout the world.

Larvas de Corydalus, Chloronia e Protosialis foram coletadas nas áreas de estudo. Corydalus foi o gênero mais abundante e rico, com três espécies e dois morfótipos (Corydalus nubilus Erichson, Corydalus batesii MacLachlan, Corydalus ignotus Contreras-Ramos, Corydalus sp.1 e Corydalus sp.2). C. ignotus é registrada pela primeira vez no Brasil. Os dois outros gêneros apresentaram apenas uma espécie, Chloronia hieroglyphica Rambur e Protosialis flammata Penny. Larvas de Megaloptera coletadas nas áreas de estudos foram descritas, com exceção de C. hieroglyphica, cuja larva já era conhecida. Corydalus affinis Burmeister foi coletada no estágio adulto, é possível que larvas de Corydalus sp. 1 ou Corydalus sp. 2, corresponda à dessa espécie. Chaves de identificação para posturas ao nível genético e larvas, ao nível de espécies/morfótipos são apresentadas. Informações bionômicas, tais como o tempo de duração do período de pré-pupa e estágio de pupa foram observados e não foram muito diferentes das espécies que habitam a região Neártica. Tempo de sobrevivência de larvas no laboratório, após coleta no campo e, de adultos, após emergência é registrado, assim como observações sobre comportamento reprodutivo de C. nubilus e C. batesii. Larvas e pupas de Hydroptilidae (Trichoptera) e de Chironomidae (Diptera), e ovos de Elmidae (Coleoptera) foram observados em associação forética com larvas de Corydalus. A fauna de Megaloptera foi diferente nos dois municípios amostrados, sendo que as espécies Corydalus sp.1 e Corydalus sp.2 não ocorreram em Manaus e, a espécie P. flammata não ocorreu em Presidente Figueiredo. As amostragens em Manaus foram realizadas em 40 locais da Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, que compreende duas bacias hidrográficas e, em Presidente Figueiredo, em 34 locais, no período de janeiro a novembro de 2002. A espécie mais abundante em Presidente Figueiredo foi C. nubilus e na Reserva Ducke, C. hieroglyphica. A riqueza de espécies foi maior nessa última localidade (p 0,05). A riqueza das duas bacias hidrográficas da Reserva Adolpho Ducke foi igual, mas quanto à abundância, C. hieroglyphica foi mais abundante na bacia oeste (p 0,05) enquanto as outras espécies não apresentaram diferenças. Tanto na Reserva Adolpho Ducke quanto em Presidente Figueiredo, algumas espécies apresentaram associação (p 0,05) com alguns tipos de substratos e, todas espécies de Corydalidae estavam associadas (p 0,05) à área de correnteza e Sialidae (p 0,05), à área de remanso. Análises de Componentes Principais e de Agrupamento indicam algumas associações de fatores ambientais, físicos e físico-químicos com as espécies de Megaloptera coletadas nas áreas de estudo.

- Abstract
Belostoma zecai Stefanello sp. nov. (Insecta: Hemiptera: Belostomatidae) is described and illustrated based on specimens from the Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba National Park, a protected area in the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil. This new species is assigned to the Belostoma fittkaui species group and compared with its congeners. The other four species of the genus, B. amazonum Estévez & Polhemus, 2001, B. foveolatum (Mayr, 1864), B. horvathi Montandon, 1903, and B. ribeiroi De Carlo, 1933, are also recorded from the region. Our findings increase the number of species of Belostoma recorded from Maranhão from 13 to 18, and from northeastern Brazil from 18 to 20.
