Over the years, the profile of a modern city dweller has been evolving and diversifying due to the emergence of various generations. Different generations are characterised by distinct expectations and perspectives towards life. Therefore, in today’s highly dynamic environment, city authorities must deeply understand their city dwellers to build an influential organisational culture which will lead them to have city friendly citizens in order to create resilient, sustainable, and inclusive cities. This study aims to define the impact of Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Baby Boomers employees’ characteristics on organisational culture and organisational identification relationships in terms of professional and urban life. From this perspective, a study was carried out on 460 white-collar employees who are city dwellers working stationary in the private sector in Istanbul. The data were obtained in the course of a quantitative study carried out through an interview questionnaire using the CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) technique. The primary conclusions are that there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between clan (β = 0.360, p < 0.01) as well as market (β = 0.147, p < 0.05) culture and organisational identification. In addition, there is a statistically significant relationship between employees’ experience levels and their perceptions of adhocracy culture (F = 3.19, p < 0.05), and there is no statistically significant difference between the perceptions of Generation X, Y, and Baby Boomers employees about organisational culture and organisational identification levels.

This case study attempts to explore the impact of the reflective practices (reflection in, on, and for action) on pre-service science teachers’ (PSTs’) classroom teaching practices. To this end, ten PSTs majoring in Science Teacher Education Program participated in this study. In the study, the author designed a classroom teaching practice process based on reflective practices. This process was carried out during the teaching practicum course with the pre-service teachers participating in the research. At the beginning and end of the study, classroom observations, field notes, classroom observation instruments, teaching video records, and lesson plans were used as data collection tools in determining PSTs' classroom teaching practices. The qualitative and quantitative results of this study indicated that there was a significant change in favor of post-classroom practice results between PSTs' pre- and post-classroom teaching practices. Given these results, the classroom practice process based on the reflective practices carried out in the research plays an important role in the development of PSTs' classroom teaching practices.

The employee profile in the business world is becoming increasingly diverse. This change shows that the working population structure of cities has also diversified. The entry of different generation members into business life may mean that they have different perspectives and expectations for the organisations they work for. The main aim of the paper is to investigate the importance of the influence of the characteristics of Generation X and Y employees on professional and urban life. From this perspective, a study was carried out on 235 white‑collar employees working in service, sales and marketing businesses in the private sector in Istanbul in order to investigate the effects of Generation X and Y employee characteristics on working and urban life. The data were obtained in the course of a quantitative study carried out by means of an interview questionnaire using the CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) technique. According to the literature, the entry of different generation members into business life means that they have different perspectives and expectations for the organisations and cities they work for. However, our research shows the completely opposite view that members of different generations do not have different characteristics and expectations.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to reveal the impact of skin cancer and sun knowledge on sun protection behavior in young people. In addition, identifying predictors influencing sun protection behaviors in young people is also aimed. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 424 young people in Turkey. Data were collected using Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale for Sun Protection, and Sun Protection Behavior Scale. The independent samples t- test was used to determine differences between the mean scores of sociodemographic characteristics, Bonferroni-corrected one-way ANOVA was used to determine differences among three or more groups, and the relationship between scale score means was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. Factors influencing sun protection behavior were identified using multiple linear regression. Results: Of the young people, 43.4% use sunscreen continuously throughout the year, 10.10% go to solarium, and 25.7% perform self-examinations of their skin. In youth, high sun protection self-efficacy (β = 0.486), being female (β = 0.077), regular use of sunscreen throughout the year (β = 0.464), and avoiding tanning beds (β = 0.075) positively influence sun protection behavior scores. Spending more than 6 hours in the sun during the summer months (β= -0.118) negatively affects sun protection behavior. Conclusion: The level of skin cancer sun knowledge, sun protection self-efficacy, and sun protection behaviors of young people are moderate and there is a positive correlation among them. The study's findings indicate the necessity to increase awareness of skin cancer risk factors among young people and initiate effective interventions to promote sun protection behaviors.

Diabetes mellitus, fundamentally characterized by hyperglycemia, leads to significant metabolic disturbances. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic, inflammatory, preventable metabolic disease that is a significant health issue globally. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an essential marker of systemic inflammation. We aimed to reveal the relationship between long-term glucose control and NLR, mean platelet volume (MPV), and red blood cell width in patients with type 2 diabetes. This was a retrospective case-control study. A total of 3532 applications in 2 years time were identified. Age, gender, medical history, white blood cell (WBC), hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), MPV, red blood cell width, NLR, hematocrit, platelet, C-reactive protein, Haemoglobin A1C data of the patients were analyzed. 1790 patients were included. A significant positive correlation was found between HbA1c and age, white blood cell, hematocrit, MCV, red blood cell width, NLR, and CRP. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between HbA1c and MCV. The results showed statistically significant differences between NLR, MPV, WBC, MCV, age, and HbA1c levels. Increased HbA1c levels are usually associated with an increase in these parameters. This is important for determining the risk of complications and protecting target organs in diabetic patients. A significant decrease in MCV levels was found as HbA1c levels increased. This suggests that evaluating red blood cells in routine controls of diabetic patients may indicate glycemic control. Objective: Constantly increasing health expenditures lead to the use of generic molecules and generic versions of bortezomib have been used for a long time. The aim of this study is to retrospectively examine the effectiveness, side effects, and reliability of generic bortezomib in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) patients., Materials and Methods: The data of 95 patients who received four cycles of bortezomib as first- or second-line therapy in a single center were retrospectively recorded. Treatment responses, side effects, and progression-free survival (PFS) rates were calculated and compared., Results: Of the 95 patients, 42 used the original and 53 used the generic molecule. Epidemiological data, MM types, genetic risk groups, laboratory values at diagnosis, and bortezomib treatment lines (as a first line or second) were evaluated and there was no statistical difference between the two groups. When the response rates were evaluated according to International Myeloma Working Group criteria, there was no significant difference (p=0.42). Rates of partial response and higher responses were similar (81% vs. 79.2%, p=0.84). PFS rates were 42.8 months with the original and 37.8 months with the generic molecule (p=0.68). Side effects were seen in 44.2% of all patients, and the most common side effects were neuropathy, cytopenia, and infection. These rates were similar in the two groups (p=0.55)., Conclusion: Although this retrospective study is limited in scope, it is the first study comparing the original molecule of bortezomib with a generic version. There were no statistical differences between the two groups in terms of treatment responses, PFS, or side effects. However, large-scale evaluations will help obtain more data on this subject.

Introduction: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is unusual among malignancies, with inflammation playing such a prominent role in its pathogenesis. S100A8/A9 (calprotectin) is a heterodimeric protein, which has a role in the inflammatory response and oncogenesis. In this study in HL patients, the correlation between serum S100A8/A9 levels and treatment responses was investigated along with whether this marker is correlated with other inflammatory markers., Materials and Methods: Thirty-three HL patients and 20 healthy volunteers were included. Demographic and clinical characteristics were recorded. Calprotectin levels were measured with Human S100A8/A9 Heterodimer Quantikine ELISA kit. Calprotectin levels were measured twice in patients, before and after treatment, and once in the control group. Treatment responses were evaluated with positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT)., Results: The mean age of patients was 44.3 ± 18.1 (66.3% male). The median (IQR) values of S100A8/A9 before and after treatment in the patient group were 4.98 (2.6-7.8) and 1.87 (1.1-4.8)µg/mL. Median (IQR) S100A8/A9 concentration in the control group was 1.41 (0.98-2.73)µg/mL. In patients, pretreatment values were significantly higher than in controls (P < .001). However, median values of patients after treatment and controls were similar. Patient median S100A8/A9 levels were significantly lower post-treatment compared with pretreatment values (P = .001). When inflammatory markers were examined within groups, no relationship was found between markers. In ROC analysis, a S100A8/A9 cutoff value of ≥3.31µg/mL accurately discriminated end-of-treatment PET positivity (AUC = 0.78; 95% CI 0.58-0.98; accuracy = 76.2%)., Conclusion: S100A8/A9 may be a potential biomarker for treatment response in HL independent of inflammation. Purpose: Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a role in metabolic and inflammatory processes. Increasing evidence suggests that there is a link between MIF and ovulation. We aimed to evaluate plasma MIF levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to determine whether MIF levels differ between the follicular phase and mid-cycle of the menstrual cycle in eumenorrheic women., Methods: Ninety women with PCOS and 80 age- and BMI-matched healthy eumenorrheic women were consecutively recruited into this prospective observational study. For all subjects, plasma MIF levels in the early follicular phase were measured by ELISA; for the 40 healthy controls, MIF levels were also measured during mid-cycle of the same menstrual cycle., Results: Plasma MIF levels were significantly higher in women with PCOS than in eumenorrheic women (14.16 ± 1.59 vs. 10.39 ± 0.70 ng/ml; p < 0.001). MIF levels were significantly higher at mid-cycle than in the follicular phase in eumenorrheic women (11.15 ± 0.61 vs. 10.56 ± 0.82 ng/ml; p < 0.001). MIF was positively correlated with BMI, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in both groups. MIF was positively correlated with luteinizing hormone (LH) and free-testosterone only in the PCOS group. Binary logistic regression analyses revealed that the odds ratio (OR) for PCOS independently increases linearly with elevated MIF (OR = 1.385, 95% CI = 1.087-1.764, p = 0.017)., Conclusion: MIF may play a crucial role in the reproductive system in women, including the development of PCOS and normal ovulation.
