18th International Conference on Cognition and Exploratory Learning in Digital Age, CELDA 2021 -- 13 October 2021 through 15 October 2021 -- -- 174791, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have become widespread all around the world since their conceptualization, both in terms of the number of students enrolled and the number of courses available. Some issues or learner needs in these environments, such as accreditation, quality of assessment and scaffolding for left-behind learners, have also surfaced as a result of rise in popularity. Profiling learners, using scaffolding strategies, structuring the assessment in a dynamic and effective manner, monitoring performance, and providing feedback/feedforward based on learning analytics are all expected to be valuable solutions to these issues. In this study, it is aimed to describe student views on the MOOC platform, which has the above-mentioned features and was designed and developed according to the AGILE software development model. Participants of this case study consist of 53 undergraduate students from three different universities. The data was collected using a questionnaire and semi-structured form both of which were developed by the researchers. The findings obtained were considered under these themes: benefits, disliked aspects, preferences in different learning contexts, ease of use, features open to improvement. Findings based on both quantitative and qualitative interpretations are presented on each theme. The findings of this study are limited to student views. 18th International Conference on Cognition and Exploratory Learning in Digital Age, CELDA 2021 -- 13 October 2021 through 15 October 2021 -- -- 174791, The use of technology for teaching and learning has created a paradigm shifting in learning environments and learning process, and also the paradigm shifting has also affected the assessment processes. In addition to these, online environments provide more opportunities to assess of the learners. In this study, the Adaptive Mastery Testing (AMT) system in Assessment Management System was designed and developed in which students can test themselves, recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and determine their learning objective based competencies. AMT environment is structured in accordance with the rapid prototyping software developing model. In this environment, there are questions for the students about four learning objectives, which are among the basic subjects of the Statistics course. AMT environment consists of presentation, assessment, domain and learner model. Pilot implementation was carried out with 98 undergraduate students. In order to evaluate of the environment; number of tests taken, number of correct answer, number of wrong answer and number of total answer data were used. According to the findings, it is seen that most of the students are masters in the learning objectives presented to them. In addition, it was found that half of the students took an average test to become a master. In other words, half of the learners participating in the study were determined as masters by the system in the first test they took for each learning objective. © 2021 Virtual Simulation Innovation Workshop, SIW 2021. Abstract

Background: Pekmez is an important fruit-based food of Turkish culinary culture. The aim of this study is to determine the levels of acrylamide (AA), 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) and other selected parameters in grape, mulberry and carob Pekmez. Methods: AA and HMF were analyzed by Liquid Chromatography and High Performance Liquid Chromatography, respectively. Also, glucose, fructose, pH, protein, total phenolic, and color (L*a*b*) were analyzed. The analyses were done by IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. Results: The average AA, HMF, glucose, fructose, total reducing sugar, pH, protein, total phenolic, and colour (L*a*b*) values of Pekmez were 302 µg/kg, 25.7 mg/kg, 13.2%, 14.0%, 27.2%, 5.27, 1.16%, 4.64 mg GAE/g, and 4.83*5.60*1.52, respectively. AA indicates a moderate positive linear correlation with HMF, protein, total phenolic; whereas AA indicates a moderate negative linear correlation with glucose, fructose, total reducing sugar, pH, and L*a*b. Conclusion: It is presumed that heat treatment is a determinant in AA and HMF formulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The boron occupies an important place on contributions and its usage is getting widespread. Although the use of boron-added mineral oils serves to reduce friction, environmental risks can not be totally removed. It is necessary to improve the properties of biological oils used for additives so that they can compete with mineral oils technically. In the study, the use of liquid boron as an additive for engine lubrication oil together with vegetable oil was investigated experimentally in two diesel engines. Experiments were first carried out using mineral lubrication oil in the engine, and then the experiments were repeated using mineral base oil with additives in the second engine with the same technical characteristics as the first engine. Basically, the study was performed in the fields of engine performance (torque, power, consumption per hour, specific fuel consumption) and exhaust emissions (CO, CO2, HC, O2, SO2, NOx). As a result, it was concluded that the engine, in which boron and mineral oil with wild mustard oil were used, provided more significant fuel saving than in the engine with additive-free mineral oil, and no significant change was seen in the engine performance, also they showed similarities in terms of exhaust emissions. Abstract

Objective: Pemphigus, expressing a life-threatening blistering disease, result from autoantibodies against the proteins that mediate intercellular adhesion in desmosomes, namely desmoglein 1 and/or 3. The importance of cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen (CTLA)-4 in negative regulation of T lymphocytes, which take part in this autoimmune reaction, is well known. Gene polymorphisms regarding this molecule affect autoimmunity. We aimed to determine whether CTLA-4 +49 A/G, -318 C/T, -1661 A/G and CT60 A/G gene polymorphisms cause susceptibility to pemphigus in Turkish population. Methods: We detected genotypes of the single nucleotide polymorphisms for 118 pemphigus patients and 108 healthy individuals with the help of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results: Distribution of the CTLA-4 +49 A/G, -318 C/T, -1661 A/G and CT60 A/G allele and genotype frequencies did not differ between pemphigus patients and healthy controls (p=0.643, OR=0.931; p=0.847, OR=1.160; p=0.968, OR=0.975; p=0.173, OR=1.303, respectively). Conclusion: We concluded that these polymorphisms are not associated with pemphigus susceptibility in Turkish population. This is the first study investigating the possible role of the 4 CTLA single nucleotide polymorphism in pemphigus susceptibility simultaneously. Abstract

Involvement of the renal artery is common in Takayasu arteritis. We, herein, present on a patient with Takayasu arteritis causing severe renal failure and a successful auto-transplantation. This case shows that early diagnosis and immediate appropriate interventions are life-saving in patients with Takayasu arteritis. Abstract

Background: Monitoring of chemokines, CXCL9 and CXCL10, in serum may present a non-invasive detection method for rejection. Objective: To investigate the relationship between urinary levels of CXCL9 and CXCL10 and graft function following renal transplantation. Methods: 75 living-related donor renal transplant recipients were studied. Urinary levels of chemokines were collected pre-operatively, on post-operative 1st day, 7th day, 1st month, 3rd month, and at the time of rejection. Chemokines levels were assayed using and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Clinical variables were monitored. 10 (15%) patients had biopsy-proven rejection during the follow-up period. The urinary CXCL9 level in those with rejection was significantly higher than that in those with non-rejection group at the 1st day (p<0.001), 7th day (p<0.001), and at the time of rejection (p=0.002). The urinary CXCL10 level was also significantly higher in those with rejection compared with non-rejection group at 1st day (p<0.001), 7th day (p<0.001), and at the time of rejection (p=0.001). Serum creatinine level was strongly correlated with the urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels at the time of rejection (r=0.615, p=0.002; and r=0.519, p=0.022, respectively). Among those with T cell-mediated rejections the mean urinary CXCL10 level increased to as high as 258.12 ng/mL. Conclusion: Urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels might have a predictive value for T cell-mediated rejection in early post-transplantation period. Measurement of urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels could provide an additional tool for the diagnosis of rejection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
