Objective To compare the cosmetic result of the PEAK Plasma Blade with traditional scalpel in patients who had primary cesarean delivery by using POSAS (Patient and Observer Assessment Scale). Material and methods Fourty women between 20 and 40 years, who were planning to have primary cesarean delivery, were randomized for skin incision with PEAK Plasma Blade (n:20) and with scalpel (n:20) were blinded to their group allocation. At six months, the cosmetic outcome of the cesarean scar was assessed using the POSAS. Subjective scar rating was performed using the patient component of the POSAS. Objective scar assessment was performed by an observer dermatologist blinded to the patient's group allocation. Results The observer scores (p = 0,003), patient scores (p = 0,001) and the total scores (p = 0,001) of the POSAS scale were significantly lower in favor of the Peak Plasma Blade group with respect to the scalpel group. Conclusion The PEAK Plasma Blade has superior cosmetic outcome compared to traditional scalpel skin incision at cesarean section.

We hypothesized that treatment of adenomyosis with the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) can concurrently improve urinary incontinence along with irritative and obstructive symptoms and thus positively affect the patients' quality of life.Sixty-five patients suffering from heavy prolonged menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) with dysmenorrhea diagnosed with uterine adenomyosis by ultrasound were enrolled in this study. LNG-IUS was inserted in the outpatient department for the treatment of the uterine adenomyosis. The patients filled out two validated questionnaires, the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) and the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7), before and 6 months after the insertion of the LNG-IUS. The before and after scores were compared using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test.The mean (± SD) age of the patients was 44.5 ± 6.5 years. Both UDI and IIQ scores were significantly lower at 6 months after treatment with the LNG-IUS (P0.0001). UDI scores revealed improvement rates of 14.3%, 35.7%, and 22.7% for urinary incontinence, irritative symptoms, and obstructive symptoms, respectively. Moreover, improvements in irritative and obstructive symptoms were significantly correlated with improvements in menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea (P0.04). IIQ scores demonstrated improvement rates of 18.9%, 14.6%, 19.7%, and 18.5% for physical activity, travel, social relations, and emotional health, respectively.LNG-IUS used for treating menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea improved urinary incontinence along with irritative and obstructive symptoms in patients with adenomyosis.

Objective: The present study aims to make an epidemiological analysis of stillbirths which occurred during a 24-month-long period at a tertiary health center located in the biggest city of Southeastern Anatolia Region. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of 472 stillbirths which occurred at Diyarbakır Maternity Hospital between 1 January 2012 and 1 January 2014. Results: Stillbirth rates were computed as 0.14%for 2012 and 0.11%for 2013. The mothers were housewives in 93%of stillbirths. The mothers had social insurance in 83%of them and they had chronic diseases in 17%of stillbirths. About 57%of stillbirths received antenatal care at family health centers, 17%of them were due to consanguineous marriages. Only 41 stillbirths (8.7%) occurred during third trimester of pregnancy and 15 of these third trimester stillbirths (36.6%) were related with intrapartum causes. Preeclampsia (41.9%), abruptio placenta (28.4%) and fetal anomaly (13.5%) were the most frequently associated clinical conditions for stillbirths. Conclusion: The stillbirth rate in geographical regions with low socioeconomical status can be significantly decreased by certain precautions. These precautions include the fortification of antenatal care centers, maintenance of prenatal care at home facilities in collaboration with parents, prevention and treatment of perinatal infections, effective labor induction after 41st gestational week, delivery by experienced midwives/doctors working at hospitals and easy access to emergent obstetric care, Amaç: Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nin en büyük ilinde yer alan bir üçüncü sağlık merkezinde son 24 ayda meydana gelen ölü doğumların epidemiyolojik bakımdan değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Gossypiboma, also known as textiloma or cottonoid, is a term used to describe a mass in the body, which comprises retained surgical sponge and reactive tissue [1]. In the literature, there are some cases reporting gossypiboma mimicking gastrointestinal stromal tumors or thoracic masses, but it is rare in gynecologic tumors [2]. The treatment option is usually laparotomy due to the possibility of adhesion formation, depending on the previous surgeries. However, by advancements in minimally invasive surgery techniques, the laparoscopic approach is associated with many advantages in gynecologic operations [3]. In this article, we report a woman with pelvic gossypiboma that was mimicking a remnant ovarian malignancy and its successful management by laparoscopy.
