2. The effect of lifestyle change on autonomic nervous system dysfunction in patients with metabolic syndrome

Study Design: A prospective clinical cohort study. Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of metabolic syndrome, which affects many organs, on the autonomic nervous system and to observe the changes after treatment. Materials and Methods: Heart rate variability values of 101 metabolic syndrome patients who were treated at the Kocaeli University Cardiology Outpatient Clinic included in the study. All patients were offered lifestyle change suggestions in addition to their medical treatments. At the end of three months, the heart rate variability parameters of the patients were re-evaluated. Results: Heart rate variability values were found to be significantly lower in metabolic syndrome patients compared to the control group. It was observed that the heart rate variability values improved significantly in half of the patients who applied the given treatment with lifestyle changes. A decrease in heart rate change parameters was found in the group that did not implement lifestyle changes compared to the beginning of the study. Conclusions: Autonomic nervous system functions evaluated by heart rate variability decreased in patients with metabolic syndrome, and the treatment and lifestyle changes had a positive effect on these parameters.

Differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter have been observed in $K$ and $B$ meson decays, but not yet in any baryon decay. Such differences are associated with the non-invariance of fundamental interactions under the combined charge-conjugation and parity transformations, known as $C\!P$ violation. Using data from the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, a search is made for $C\!P$-violating asymmetries in the decay angle distributions of $\Lambda^0_b$ baryons decaying to $p\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ and $p\pi^-K^+K^-$ final states. These four-body hadronic decays are a promising place to search for sources of $C\!P$ violation both within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. We find evidence for $C\!P$ violation in $\Lambda^0_b$ to $p\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays with a statistical significance corresponding to 3.3 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. The resource management of a phase array system capable of multiple target tracking and surveillance is critical for the realization of its full potential. Present work aims to improve the performance of an existing method, time-balance scheduling, by establishing an analogy with a well-known stochastic control problem, the machine replacement problem. With the suggested policy, the scheduler can adapt to the operational scenario without a significant sacrifice from the practicality of the time-balance schedulers. More specifically, the numerical experiments indicate that the schedulers directed with the suggested policy can successfully trade the unnecessary track updates, say of non-maneuvering targets, with the updates of targets with deteriorating tracks, say of rapidly maneuvering targets, yielding an overall improvement in the tracking performance., The extended version of the paper accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2017

Transverse momentum spectra of π±, K± and p(p ̄) up to pT = 20 GeV/c at mid-rapidity in pp, peripheral (60–80%) and central (0–5%) Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV have been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pion ratios both show a distinct peak at pT ≈ 3 GeV/c in central Pb–Pb collisions. Below the peak, pT < 3 GeV/c, both ratios are in good agreement with hydrodynamical calculations, suggesting that the peak itself is dominantly the result of radial flow rather than anomalous hadronization processes. For pT > 10 GeV/c particle ratios in pp and Pb–Pb collisions are in agreement and the nuclear modification factors for π±, K± and p(p ̄) indicate that, within the systematic and statistical uncertainties, the suppression is the same. This suggests that the chemical composition of leading particles from jets in the medium is similar to that of vacuum jets.

The first measurement of two-pion Bose–Einstein correlations in central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN =2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than those measured at RHIC.

Purpose: We compared the efficacy of transurethral resection alone or transurethral resection followed by bladder instillations of doxorubicin or ethoglucid for 1 year in patients with superficial bladder carcinoma, and followed them long term for the incidence of progression to muscle invasion. Materials and Methods: A total of 443 patients with superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder was randomized. After randomization of 206 patients the control arm was closed to patient entry based on the results of an interim analysis showing a significant difference in favor of those receiving adjuvant chemotherapy. Results: Final analysis of treatment results for recurrence included 432 patients at a median followup of 3.4 years for time to first recurrence, 5 years for analysis of time to invasion (Category T2 disease or worse) and 10.7 years for duration of survival. - Abstract
Hydraulic engine mounts (hydro mounts) are passive devices used to isolate automobile engine vibration from the chassis at different automobile operating conditions. In this paper we introduce a semi-active hydro mount using Magneto Rheologic (MR) fluids. A semi- active hydro mount can be used to optimize the mount performance for a wider range of vehicle operating conditions. The MR fluid mount developed and mathematically modeled in this work can change its yield shear stress once under a magnetic field and hence, it may be tuned by applying electromagnetic field. The tuning ability allows us to vary the natural frequency of the mount and to increase the damping of the mount. To verify the numerical results an experimental test bed has been developed. 21. Psychological Attitudes of Physicians in Seeking Help and Associated Factors.

- Abstract
Background: Physician suicides have been increasing in recent years, and this shows that the psychological state of physicians is a subject that needs research and intervention. We think that the factors affecting the behavior of physicians to seek medical help due to their psychiatric disorders should be addressed. Therefore, we conducted a study examining the relationship between the anxiety, depression and stress levels of physicians, their attitudes toward seeking psychological help, and the degree of self-stigma related to seeking help., Methods: One hundred sixty-six physicians who accessed online platforms were included in the study, and data were collected using self-report forms. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale, and the Self-Stigma in Seeking Help Scale were used as assessment instruments., Results: A positive correlation was found between negative attitudes toward seeking psychological help and depression, anxiety, and stress, whereas a negative association was found between positive attitudes and depression, anxiety, and stress. A significant association was found between age and depression and anxiety scores., Conclusion: Physicians with high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress are more likely to exhibit negative attitudes toward seeking psychological help, and interventions are needed to improve attitudes toward seeking help., Competing Interests: Declaration of Interests: The authors have no conflict of interest to declare., (2023 The authors.)

- Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between childhood trauma with the probability of suicide in obsessive compulsive disorders. Sixty-seven patients who were diagnosed with OCD were included in the study out of the patients who were admitted to Malatya Training and Research Hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic. The research data were collected using Yale Brawn Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS), Beck Depression (BDS) and Beck Anxiety Scales (BAS), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-28 (CTQ-28), and Suicide Probability Scale (SPS). CTQ was detected as ≥ 35 in 36 of 67 patients who were included in the study. Aggression (p = 0.003), sexual (p = 0.007) and religious (p = 0.023) obsessions and rituelistic (p = 0.000) compulsions were significantly higher in the group with CTQ ≥ 35. Mild correlation was detected between the SPS score and the scores of CTQ. Correlation remained even when the effect of BAS and BDS scores were excluded. At the end of our study, childhood traumas were found to be associated with obsessive symptoms. 23. Social Cognition in Schizophrenia Patients and Their First-Degree Relatives.

- Abstract
Introduction: Social cognition is a person's ability to configure the designs of relationships between themselves and others and to use these designs to guide social behaviors in a flexible manner. The models that are the most studied and describe social cognition are the theory of mind (ToM) and emotion recognition. This study was aimed to detect ToM and emotion recognition disorders in schizophrenia patients and their first-degree relatives., Methods: Thirty schizophrenia patients in remission, the first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients (n=30), and 30 healthy volunteers who were paired with the patients in terms of age and duration of education were included in the study. The Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS), Dokuz-Eylül Theory of Mind Scale (DEToMS), Reading the Mind in the Eyes test, Facial Emotion Identification Test (FEIT), and Facial Emotion Discrimination Test (FEDT) were performed by the patients participating in this study., Results: ToM and emotion recognition were found to be defective in the schizophrenia patients and their relatives. The performances of ToM and emotion recognition were ranked as the schizophrenia group, family group, and control group, from the worst to the best. The schizophrenia group showed poor performance in all sub-components except irony. In the family group, the empathy subcomponent showed similar performance with the control group, whereas the subcomponents of the second-order false belief, metaphor, and faux pas tests showed similar performance with the patient group. There were differences among the three groups in the first-order false belief subscale as well as the total DEToMS. The patient and family groups showed the poorest performances, whereas the control group showed the best performance., Conclusion: The detection of ToM and emotion recognition disorders in the remission period, regardless of the attack period and asymptomatic first-degree relatives, may support the view that the period of schizophrenia is an independent continuous variable., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: No conflict of interest was declared by the authors.

Phytoseiulus persimilis of the family Phytoseiidae is an effective predatory mite species that is used to control pest mites. The LC50 and LC60 values of etoxazole were determined on P. persimilis using a leaf-disc method and spraying tower. A laboratory selection population designated ETO6 was found to have a 111.63-fold resistance to etoxazole following 6 selection cycles. This population developed low cross-resistance to spinosad, spiromesifen, acetamiprid, indoxacarb, chlorantraniliprole, milbemectin and moderate cross-resistance to deltamethrin. PBO, IBP and DEM synergised resistance 3.17-, 2.85- and 3.60-fold respectively. Crossing experiments revealed that etoxazole resistance in the ETO6 population was an intermediately dominant and polygenic. In addition, detoxifying enzyme activities were increased 2.71-fold for esterase, 3.09-fold for glutathione S-transferase (GST) and 2.76-fold for cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (P450) in the ETO6 population. Selection for etoxazole under laboratory conditions resulted in the development of etoxazole resistance in the predatory mite P. persimilis that are resistant to pesticides are considered valuable for use in resistance management programmes within integrated pest control strategies., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier Inc. Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is one of the most important and effective predators of Tetranychus spp. (Acari: Tetranychidae). This study analyzed the effects of hexythiazox and spiromesifen resistance on biological characteristics of N. californicus. Pre-oviposition, oviposition, post-oviposition times, adult lifespan, total number of eggs laid per female, net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic rate of increase (rm), doubling time (DT), mean generation time (T) and finite rate of increase (λ) were compared among three populations: 63.9-fold hexythiazox resistant (HEX14), 53.6-fold spiromesifen resistant (SPR13) and a susceptible base population. Pre-oviposition and oviposition times, mean number of eggs/female, adult lifespan, R0 and rm values were all significantly higher for the two resistant populations than for the susceptible population. Life tables of HEX14, SPR13 and the susceptible population showed that R0 was 35.0, 26.5 and 19.4 (females/female generation), rm was 0.35, 0.32 and 0.30 (females/female/day), DT was 1.92, 2.07 and 2.27 days, T was 9.8, 9.8 and 9.7 days, and λ was 1.43, 1.39 and 1.35 (individuals/female/day), respectively.

Time to first recurrence was significantly prolonged by both drugs compared to transurethral resection alone (doxorubicin versus transurethral resection alone p < 0.001 and ethoglucid versus control p < 0.001). Recurrence rate per year was 0.30 for both adjuvant treatment arms and 0.68 for the resection only group. Progression to muscle invasion was rare (15.1% of cases) and not apparently different in the 3 treatment arms. Of the 423 patients death from any cause in 199 and from malignant disease in 59 was not correlated with treatment. However, there was a strong correlation between death from malignant disease, and T category and tumor grade., Conclusions: In regard to time to first recurrence and recurrence rate per year this study indicates that adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin and ethoglucid using the indicated schedule is superior to transurethral resection alone. However, progression in stage or survival was not influenced by the treatment regimen.

Between 1977 and 1982 74 patients with cancer of the prostate underwent a pelvic lymphadenectomy. 17 had a preceding lymphangiography and 25 computerized tomography; the sensitivity of the former was 50%, the specificity 56% and the accuracy 53%, whereas the latter produced rates of 25, 100 and 76%, respectively. These percentages are in keeping with the literature. In addition, 61 of the 74 patients had during the lymphadenectomy a frozen section, which was in 87% accurate, but yielded a false negative ratio of 32%. The efficiency is within the figures given in the literature.

Patients with superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder were entered in a randomized clinical trial to compare the efficacies of transurethral resection alone or followed by bladder instillation of doxorubicin hydrochloride or ethoglucid (Epodyl) for 1 year. Results showed that adjuvant chemotherapy with the selected drugs prolonged the mean interval between recurrences. Mild systemic toxicity and chemical cystitis were observed in 3 and 3 per cent, respectively, of the patients given ethoglucid, and in 5 and 4 per cent, respectively, of those taking doxorubicin.
