Application and development status of flame retardant fiber in automotive interior materials were discussed. Importance of using flame retardant fiber in automotive interior material was expounded. Flame retardant mechanism and types of flame retardant fibers, application research of flame retardant fiber in automotive interior were reviewed. It is considered that relying on joint support of chemical technology, polymer technology and textile technology, it is the future research and development direction to develop flame retardant automotive interior materials with better flame retardant property, reasonable price, functional composite, green and high-tech. This study was aimed to develop a quick detection method to test aldehydes and ketones in textiles in order to control the quality of automotive textiles in the development process from fabric production to end-use in vehicles. In this study, a pretreatment of samples was applied to simulate the actual environment of textiles used in vehicles. Collected volatiles were reacted with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine and then eluted with acetonitrile tetrahydrofuran. The eluent was analyzed with high-performance liquid chromatography. Findings showed more than 90% volatiles could be detected in the established method; the lowest determination limit was 0.0297 mg/mL; and the lowest quantification limit was 0.0991 mg/mL, which meant sensitivity and capability of the method were high. Regression coefficients of linear models between volatile concentrations and chromatographic peak characteristics were >0.995, indicating that the method could effectively and efficiently determine the contents of volatiles in automotive textiles.

This paper describes different technologies used for manufacturing nonwoven fabrics from flax fibers and flax waste. It has been seen that carding, air-laying, and wet-laid techniques could be used for web formation, and that needle punching, hydroentangling, stitch bonding, and thermal bonding could be used for web bonding. These processes are described here in brief with the consequence of flax fiber. Different physical, mechanical, and functional properties of flax nonwovens reported by various researchers have been described here in brief. In recent years, safety systems such as seat belts and airbags have been one of the fast-growing sectors within the automotive industry. Seat belts and airbags have made driving substantially safer since their introduction. Airbags are safety systems used to cushion the driver or passenger during a collision and reduce bodily injuries. The technology involved in the manufacturing and working of airbags is complex. Since the early stages of development, airbag technology has been undergoing continual evolution in terms of design, materials and performance. Airbags are typically made from woven fabric, which may be coated or uncoated but must be impermeable to gases and flame resistant. In terms of their operation, modern airbags are smart restraint systems, which can tailor the deployment of the airbag according to the crash severity, body size of the occupant and proximity of the occupant to the airbag system prior to deployment. The future of airbags is extremely promising because there are many diverse applications ranging from motorcycle helmets to aircraft seating. In this article, an outline is given of the historical development of airbags and their value in saving lives is illustrated by supporting statistical data. The essential parameters required for airbag yarn and fabric components are discussed in detail. In addition, the processes involved in the manufacture, assembly and testing of airbag systems are explained. The mechanisms and chemical reactions involved in the deployment of different types of airbags are also discussed, and recent developments in airbag design and their possible future applications are reported. The automotive manufacturing industry is a key user of technical textiles. Cars consume a large amount of material, and the textiles are not an exception. The objective of this study is to compare four abrasion testers, which are used for the automobile sector. Previously the test parameters have been determined to make the most precise comparison, and four car seat upholstery structures have been compared. Martindale is the most complex abrasion tester: it generates a movement according to a curve of Lissajous and can test several samples simultaneously for a machine cycle; for this reason, it has been determined that part of the total results variations is attributable to the parameters of the used apparatus and tested structures as well. In this study, the performance of ISO and AATCC Blue Wool Standards has been evaluated under the high temperature and humidity conditions specified in automotive lightfastness test methods. Data show that the standards can be used to verify exposure levels that are controlled by irradiance measurements and also to confirm correct equipment function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Textile materials used in automotive applications must meet extremely high standards for colorfastness to light. Automobile manufacturers specify different methods for testing lightfastness, each of which attempts to simulate the severe exposure conditions which cause field failures. The conditions of test vary significantly from method to method. The reproducibility of results is generally poor because the equipment is inherently difficult to control and is not designed to operate at such extreme conditions of temperature and humidity. This study explores the use of xenon arc equipment as an accelerated, more controllable alternative to the traditional carbon arc equipment and daylight test. The variables which must be considered in developing a single, reliable and easily reproducible laboratory test method acceptable to all parties involved in automotives have been considered.
