Abstract

The article aims to present a cyber–physical system (CPS) to support the cultivation of aquaculture in a closed aquaponic system using the deep-water culture (DWC) method. The CPS uses precision sensors as TriOxmatic 700 IQ (for dissolved oxygen and water temperature), AmmoLyt Plus 700 IQ (for ammonium), NiCaVis 701 IQ NI (for nitrites and nitrates), SensoLyt® 700 IQ (for pH), and SL-M5 (for water level). It is built with a Raspberry Pi 4, 8 GB as a server, OpenHAB 3.0 software, and other specialized software for measuring water parameters. Some of the parameters are maintained completely autonomously, while others are indirectly controlled. Basic knowledge of hydroponics and aquaculture is required to set up the system, but day-to-day maintenance can be carried out by employees who receive instructions from the CPS. A method for the physical modification of the fish tank surface by using laser processing is proposed. This results in a change in surface topography (creating diverse microstructure patterns) and its roughness, which is of crucial importance for the bacterial adhesion mechanism. Abstract

Simple Summary: The article presents a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) implemented using open-source software, used to autonomously manage the microclimate in a broiler meat production poultry farm. The system is controlled by a small Raspberry Pi computer. The CPS is built up of multiple sensors, actuators and end devices connected to each other in a network. It provides autonomous control of parameters such as temperature, relative humidity and speed of air flow in the building to ensure optimal conditions for the broiler growth. On the one hand, the system is built with cost-oriented components, but on the other hand, it provides fully autonomous control, without human intervention in all ventilation modes. This eliminates human errors and increases productivity. The article presents a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) for intelligent management of a poultry farm for broiler meat production, with a fully autonomous microclimate control. Innovative concepts have been introduced for automated management and changing parameters according to pre-set conditions and schedules, with the possibility that the parameters of the algorithm can be further adjusted by the operator. The proposed CPS provides for high productivity with minimal production waste, at optimized costs and with minimization of human errors. The CPS is built on the basis of cost-oriented components. A Raspberry Pi 4 8 GB is used as the server, and the free open-source software OpenHAB 3.0 is used to optimize the cost of building the system as much as possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

International audience; In the last few decades, much effort has been made for the production of squeezed vacuum states in order to reduce quantum noise in the audio-frequency band. This technique has been implemented in all running gravitational-wave interferometric detectors and helped to improve their sensitivity. While the detectors are acquiring data for astrophysical observations, they must be kept in the operating condition, also called “science mode,” that is, a state that requires the highest possible duty-cycle for all the instrumental parts and controls. We report the development of a highly automated setup for the generation of optical squeezed states, where all the required control loops are supervised by a software based on finite state machines; we took special care to grant ease of use, stability of operation, and possibility of auto-recovery. Moreover, the setup has been designed to be compatible with the existing software and hardware infrastructure of the Virgo detector. In this paper, we discuss the optical properties of this squeezing setup, the locking techniques, and the automation algorithms.

Abstract

The main theme of this research will be to develop solutions to the widely known 3-part question in mobile robotics comprising of "Where am I" "Where should I be" and "How do I get there". This can be achieved by implementing automation algorithms. Automation algorithms or control algorithms are vital components of any autonomous vehicle. Design and development of both prototype and full-scale control algorithms for a Long-Airdox Full Dimension Continuous Haulage system will be the main focus. Automation is a highly complex task, which aims at achieving increased levels of equipment efficiency by eliminating errors that arise due to human interference. Achieving a fully autonomous operation of a machine involves a variety of high-level interlaced functions that work in harmony, and at the same time perform functions that mimic the human operator. Automation has expanded widely in the field of mobile robotics, thus leading to the development of autonomous robots, automated guided vehicles and other autonomous vehicles. An indispensable element of an autonomous vehicle is a navigation system that steers it to a required destination. The vehicle must be able to determine its relationship to the environment by sensing, and also must be able to decide what actions are required to achieve its goal(s) in the working environment. The goal of this research is to demonstrate a fully autonomous operation of the Continuous Haulage System, and to establish its potential advantages.
