WORK-life balance , *OCCUPATIONAL achievement , *EDUCATORS , *MARRIAGE , *WORK environment , *CAREER development - Abstract
Given the realities of external pressures on our daily lives, work-life balance is important now more than ever. Although we often advocate for work-life balance, are we equipped with the appropriate tools and an adequate support network to handle what life might throw at us? How do we continue to be productive when dealing with distressing matters that we seemingly have little control over? Contributors from different areas of the world, with a diversity of voices, offer their perspectives on how to navigate life's obstacles while continuing to meet the expectations of departments, universities, and the profession to achieve career success and fulfillment. This forum highlights authors at different career stages, who have lived through a myriad of experiences including singleness/dating, marriage, pregnancy, parenting, serving as a caretaker, the death of a loved one, toxic work environment, and personal health to share their experiences and provide insights on how to cope with adversity at any point in one's academic career. 7. Adaptação da Escala de Avaliação do Autocuidado para Psicólogos (EAAP) para Portugal: Estudo Psicométrico numa Amostra de Psicólogos Clínicos.

- Abstract
In the practice of clinical psychology, there is growing concern about psychologists' self-care. The aim of this study was to adapt and carry out a psychometric study of the self-care assessment measure "Self-Care Assessment for Psychologists - SCAP" (Dorociak et al., 2017) in ("Escala de Avaliação do Autocuidado para Psicólogos - EAAP"). The translation and cross-cultural adaptation were followed by back-translation of the items. In a sample of 87 clinical psychologists, the instrument showed good internal consistency, adequate discriminative power of the items and robust factorial validity, by replicating the original five-factor structure. Involvement in self-care strategies was associated, as expected, with high levels of psychological well-being and low levels of perceived stress, confirming the convergent validity of the measures. In general, there were minor differences in self-care, psychological well-being and perceived stress among clinical psychologists, depending on the variables "professional experience" and "frequency of supervision". POST-acute COVID-19 syndrome , *HEALTH self-care , *ACTIVITIES of daily living , *HEALTH education , *COVID-19 - Abstract
Introduction: COVID-19 manifests with acute symptoms. After coronavirus infection, they may persist or new ones may emerge, compromising functional capacity and self-care. This condition has been named “acute post-COVID-19 syndrome”. Objective: To evaluate functional capacity and self-care in post-COVID-19 patients. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive and exploratory study, which evaluated 53 medical records of patients receiving care in a Functional Recovery Program for acute post-COVID-19 syndrome, conducted at a public university, from August 2022 to August 2023. A descriptive and association analysis was performed using Pearson’s Chi-squared or Fisher’s exact nonparametric tests, with a significance level of 5 % (p < 0.05). Results: Most participants were female, aged over 50 and receiving home care during the infection. Associations were found between the length of hospitalization (p = 0.03), having a history of surgery (p = 0.01), and a medium self-care capacity (p = 0.04) with the functional capacity to perform instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Conclusion: PostCOVID-19 syndrome is associated with medium self-care capacity and partial dependence in terms of IADLs. The finding contributes to the development of health education and care strategies aimed at providing recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oral anticoagulants are widely used drugs that have been studied from their pharmacotherapy to aspects related to adherence, knowledge, satisfaction, quality of life, education, among others. The construction of a genuine therapeutic relationship with people whose therapeutic indication is the use of these medications, allows and promotes the recognition of health care needs, with the purpose of generating care agreements that respond to the realities they experience. These people during their treatment. Objective: to reveal and analyze the health care needs of people undergoing oral anticoagulation therapy. Method: From the Symphonological Bioethics theory, the analysis of the care needs revealed in a series of in-depth interviews is proposed. Results: needs emerged related to recognition of the person, education and construction of agreements that emancipate and promote the management of one's own health. Conclusion: The Symphonological Bioethics theory allows the nursing professional to determine the care for people under oral anticoagulation therapy through the construction of therapeutic agreements, which favor understanding through awareness of the experienced situation, where the experience transcends the dimension person's biology. Objective: To understand the experience of self-care of the elderly person in the post-pandemic transition COVID-19. Method: Qualitative phenomenological study, conducted in a city of Mexico, from March to December 2021. The sample was intentional with 8 participants, determined by the criterion of information saturation. Inclusion criteria were: men and women aged 60 years or older, linked to elderly community groups. Data analysis: carried out through the hermeneutic circle: Pre-understanding, Understanding and Interpretation. All participants gave their informed consent. Results: The testimonies allowed us to apprehend six themes: Protective measures and physical care; Awareness of being an elderly person; Care in the face of the infodemic; Being cared for by the family and caring for the other; Learning after the pandemic; Self-care present in the lived experience of the elderly person. Conclusion: The elderly person transits the tempo-rality of their care, and cannot be separated into a before and after, but rather, an understanding of being an elderly person in self-care throughout a phase of learning and internalization of one's own care. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges to the nursing staff, who were at the forefront of patient care and their families. Exposed to the virus due to strenuous work schedules and other factors, their health was at risk. However, they took proactive self-care actions to counteract these factors, promote selfhealth, and prevent the onset of diseases caused by stressors from the pandemic. These actions, identified in the literature published between 2020-2023, have significantly impacted their individual and collective health. Objective: To identify the self-care strategies implemented by nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic and to analyze them in the light of Giddens’ theoretical proposal. Materials and methods: An integrative literature review under a descriptive scope was conducted between June and September 2023 in the following databases: Pubmed, Scielo, Science Direct, Lilacs, and Google Scholar; also, PRISMA recommendations were taken into account for the organization of the search. Results: 40 articles, published between 2020 and 2023 and representing for different methodological designs, were included in the review. The self-care implemented by nurses during the pandemic was assessed in the light of Giddens’ theoretical proposal under two types of actions: intentional, which account for physical, mental, and emotional health care activities, and deliberate, which focus on care at a social level. Conclusions: The identified self-care actions were oriented toward the promotion of individual and collective health of workers, the reduction of employee turnover, the recognition of stress, and the strengthening of resilience, which can also be implemented nowadays. To evaluate the changes in the lifestyle of health professionals after participating in a course focused on the care of people with obesity. Quasi-experimental study, with consecutive series method, with health professionals from primary care in Pernambuco as target audience. The intervention group (IG) was composed of professionals who attended the ECOASUS-PE project improvement course. A total of 109 professionals participated in the study, 51 from IG and 58 from control group (CG). At the end of the course, the IG had an improvement in lifestyle (p=0.007), a reduction in the smoking habit (p=0.027) and changes in alcohol consumption (p=0.031) and eating habits (p=0.036). Participation in the ECOASUS-PE course generated positive changes in the professionals' lifestyles. With this, it is expected that caring for those who care is an indispensable condition for qualifying the care of SUS users. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Loneliness and social isolation are significant public health issues. Family nurses play a vital role in identifying and preventing these phenomena and designing interventions to address them. Objective: To evaluate the impact of non-face-to-face follow-up consultations with family nurses on social isolation, quality of life, and disease self-management of older adults living alone in the community. Methodology: This pre-experimental study utilizes a one-group pretest-posttest design on a sample of 24 older adult patients. The Lubben Social Network Scale--6 (LSNS-6), the World Health Organization Quality of Life Group (WHOQOL) - OLD scale, and the Portuguese Version of the Therapeutic Self-Care Scale were used for data collection. Results: Following the intervention, patients' satisfaction with the family nurse's follow-up improved (p < 0.001). Additionally, there was a 33.3% increase in self-care management and a reduction in the risk of social isolation (45.8% to 33.3%). Although not statistically significant, there was also an increase in the global score of the quality of life variable. Conclusion: The non-face-to-face telenursing consultations positively affected the older adult patients' satisfaction with the family nurse's contact and follow-up, reduced social isolation, and improved self-care activities. RISK perception , *PHENOMENOLOGY , *MENTAL health , *CLINICAL pathology , *HOME environment - Abstract
The objective of this study was to understand the perceptions of occupational hazards and self-care that veterinarians from a public university have. Clinical physicians in large and small species, teachers dedicated to clinical laboratory and pathology, as well as surgeons participated. The research was framed in the qualitative research methodology, with a historical hermeneutic and phenomenological approach. How information collection techniques were used: documentary review, interview and focus group. The results show that professionals perceive self-care as a set of practices to maintain physical and mental well-being, which includes all biosafety measures to reduce risks; Likewise, they consider self-care as something integral, which implies taking care of themselves in the workplace, at home and in their environment. They affirm that there are a series of protocols or biosecurity measures that they apply to take care of themselves, but they also state that they do not know these protocols because they have not been socialized. It was evidenced that veterinarians partially comply with biosafety measures, including the use of personal protection elements and recognize ergonomic and psychosocial risk as the most relevant in the work exercise. It is concluded that the participants try to assume self-care measures, but in the event of accidents, incidents and/or occupational illness, they do not activate the corresponding protocols for addressing occupational risks. The risks inherent to being a doctor or a nurse in palliative care are well known. Since palliative care is a context in which professionals are exposed to specific risks and challenges, self-care is important to promote a better practice and prevent burnout. However, little research has been conducted to determine the impact palliative care setting has in clinical psychologists. It is necessary to explore the influence this work has on the well-being of psychologists, and the relevance they attribute to self-care. This qualitative study explores the experiences of clinical psychologists working in palliative care in order to understand the various aspects related to their self-care. Eleven Portuguese psychologists working in palliative care participated in semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis was performed, and three main domains emerged: (1) working in palliative care and its impact; (2) self-care: how, what for and why not more; and (3) self-care learning. The findings suggest that being a psychologist in this setting has risks, as being exposed to human suffering, but also has existential positive benefits that allow them to seize their own lives and understand the strengths of humankind. Self-care practices are perceived as improving professional performance and contribute to the well-being of the psychologist. Also, participants recognized some barriers to self-care that seem to be related to the little access to self-care information during their training. This research allows an understanding of self-care practices and gives relevance to this topic within palliative care psychologists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To identify the prevalence of functional health literacy and analyze the association between functional health literacy levels and clinical and sociodemographic variables in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 167 chronic kidney disease patients being monitored at the nephrology outpatient clinic of a large city in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. For the interviews, a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the Short Assessment of Health Literacy for Portuguese Speaking Adults (SAHLPA-18) were used to measure functional health literacy. Descriptive statistics were performed for sociodemographic and clinical variables, and correlation tests and linear regression models for association with functional health literacy. Results: Most participants were older adults with a median age of 68 years, 33.3% (56 patients) were in stage 3B of chronic kidney disease and 53.9% (90 patients) had inadequate functional health literacy. There was no association between functional health literacy levels and clinical variables. The majority reported not using the internet and the more advanced stage of chronic kidney disease had lower literacy scores. Worse functional health literacy scores were also identified in those with lower income. Conclusion: Most participants had inadequate functional health literacy. Clinical variables were not predictors of literacy scores. However, lower health literacy scores were identified in those with more advanced stage kidney disease, lower income and less internet use.
