Current tools and methods for assessing water supply systems no longer meet the new sustainability challenges, mainly the balance of the close relationship between water and energy in the perspective of unsustainable use of water resources and energy crisis. In this context, this study aimed to develop a model for hydro-energetic assessment of water supply systems, based on the systemic approach and diagnostic and simulation actions of the operation of water flows and electricity consumption. The analysis was developed in two steps, namely the development of the model and its formulations and subsequent application to the water supply system using synthetic data. The results showed that the developed model was effective in assessing the proposal, demonstrated easy practical applicability in any unit arrangement, promoted systemic understanding of water and electricity losses in the units in the stages of production, processing and distribution and in the system as a whole, and provided decision making for corrective actions with greater systemic impact. Finally, the proposed model represents an important technology in the search for improved social, economic and environmental sustainability of water supply systems

Uma quantidade significativa de volume de reservatorio para a eficiencia da energia hidreletrica em sistemas de abastecimento de agua em areas urbanas. Um projeto de pesquisa foi realizado por um sistema de bomba de agua e reservatorio de Setor Guanabara, Ananindeua, Belem, Para. Para isso, ou trabalho, foi dividido em tres etapas, a saber, um estudo preliminar realizado para determinar a hidrografia de Vazao do Setor Guanabara. Na segunda fase, uma analise das condicoes de hidroenergia do volume operacional do sistema de reserva. Na terceira etapa realizada para analisar a condicao de condicoes de hidroenergia de alto volume de reserva. De fato, verificou-se que o volume util do reservatorio elevado de Setor Guanabara nao permite a reducao do pubeamento de agua, nao poster-ponta, ou que, naturalmente, para influenciar ou energia energetica e esta reserva elevada esta sendo usada como "caixa de passagem". Assim, e necessario estudar alternativas com o objetivo de modificar a atual situacao operacional da Setor Guanabara, visando reduzir ou consumir e descarregar energia eletrica.

The most relevant challenges in the water supply system (WSS) are high water losses and the waste of electric energy. This paper aimed to assess the capacity of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in the analysis of the hydro-energy performance of WSSs. The Stage 1 comprises the selection of data and the respective hydro-energy indexes are defined; cartographic data are defined in Stage 2 and a geo-referenced database is constructed in Stage 3. In the stage 4, the data of the Central Water Supply Zone administered by the Water Works Company of the state of Para in Belem, Brazil were employed to assess its applicability, in which the sectors with the worst hydro-energy performance were identified, such as Sector 9, with the highest water loss rates (59.11%) and electric energy consumption per m 3 of water produced (1.57 kwh m - ³). The results shows that geo-referential assessment of the hydro-energy performance of WSSs provided accurate information for decision-taking related to the rational use of water and electricity in the systems.

The use of water in a hydrographic basin within the Amazon deforestation area is evaluated as a case study for the municipality of Rondon do Para, State of Para, Brazil. Current investigation takes into account the hydrographic basin as a system, following the Pressure/State/Response concept model, and aims at an analysis of the system's sustainability. Results show that the use of water within the context of the system under analysis tends towards non-sustainability. Economic growth, especially triggered by the expansion of extensive cattle-raising and industrial activities, has worsened the situation. These conditions do not represent local reality since the above-mentioned activities have produced only scanty employment. Further, the municipality is striving with problems concerning the supply of drinking water, deficiency in sewage treatment and especially the deterioration of surface water resources.
