Aim: Despite the increasing popularity of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in recent years, its efficacy in treating T4 colon cancer remains a subject of ongoing debate. This study aimed to assess the perioperative and oncological outcomes of MIS for T4 colon cancer in comparison with open surgery (OP). Method: We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis on 181 consecutive patients who underwent a T4 colon cancer resection through either MIS or OP between December 2014 and September 2021. Converted patients were evaluated in the MIS group according to the intention-to-treat principle. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed based on age, gender, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, and the T-stage subgroup (T4a and T4b) to control for potentially confounding factors. Demographics short-term and long-term oncological outcomes were evaluated and compared between the two groups. Results: Post-PSM resulted in 49 patients in each group. The aim of the research is to determine the effects of different rooting contents [control (water), plant growth regulator-rooting hormone (H1: 0.25 g l-1, H2: 0.50 g l-1 and H3: 1.0 g l-1), cinnamon powder (T) and Aloe vera gel (AV)] and two different planting times on the rooting of leaf cuttings prepared from the stock mother plants of wild Prometheum sempervivoides (Fisch. ex Bieb.) H. Ohba taxon. Observations and measurements of vitality rate (%), number of rooted cuttings (NR), number of callusing cuttings (NC), maximum root length (MRL), rooting rate (%) and rooting scale (1-5) were made on cuttings whose rooting was completed. The results were evaluated statistically. The most positive rooting effect was determined in the H3 application, which is the highest dose of the commercial rooting hormone tested in the study. Cinnamon powder application was determined as a more effective natural extract for rooting leaf cuttings of P. sempervivoides when compared to Aloe vera gel application. At the end of our study, in which the effects of different planting times were also examined, it was determined that planting the leaf cuttings of P. sempervivoides as soon as they were taken from the stock mother plant had a positive effect on rooting. The very good quality roots were observed in H1 (0 h), H2 (0 h), H3 (0 h) and H3 (24 h) applications. These applications can be recommended for rooting the leaf cuttings of P. sempervivoides succulent plant. It was also concluded that P. sempervivoides can be reproduced by vegetative propagation method using leaf cuttings.

Sustainability is one of the emerging areas in building construction, and it is widely investigated in terms of bringing sustainable technology into construction. However, one of the biggest challenges in the construction industry is implementing sustainability. Building contractors and construction practitioners mostly struggle with the implementation of sustainability due to the lack of certain parameters that define sustainability. Therefore, this study investigates the factors for effective sustainability implementation to provide industry practitioners with the benefit of the extensive list of parameters when designing their sustainability program. To research the parameters, a questionnaire was designed and administered to construction professionals with wide experience in sustainability implementation. The respondents were asked to evaluate a set of sustainability factors in the economic, social, and environmental domains. This way, the study provides reflections from construction practitioners working on large projects. The findings indicated that Ethical and Relational Factors in economic sustainability, Historical and Social Relations Factors in social sustainability, and Material Usage Factors in environmental sustainability are the most important for effective sustainability implementation. The findings are expected to help construction practitioners understand metrics of sustainability, effectively manage their projects, and successfully implement sustainability with the consideration of proper metrics.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, velilere göre çocukların okuma alışkanlığına ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmada çocuklarının okuma alışkanlığı edinmesinde velilerin rolleri de ortaya konmuştur. Bu amaçlarla araştırma, durum çalışması ilkelerine uygun olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırmaya veri toplamak için ilkokulda çocuğu olan 20 veli ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Toplanan verilerin içerik analizi yapılmış, bu analizler sonucunda veriler ana-alt temalar şeklinde gruplanmış ve sonuçlar açıklanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; öğrenciler okuma ilgi ve isteğine sahip olmakla birlikte kitabın türü, içeriği, konusu ile tasarımına göre kitaba ilişkin tutum geliştirmektedir. Velilere göre çocukları kitap seçerken tür olarak hikâye ve masal, konu olarak macerayı tercih etmektedir. Velilere göre çocuklarının kitap tercihini en çok etkileyen kitaba ilişkin unsurlar: görsellik, hacim, yazı ve tasarımdır. Buna göre kitabın; görsel açıdan zengin olması, kitapta canlı renklerin tercih edilmesi, kitaptaki resimlerin kültür ve ahlaka uygunluğu, resim-içerik uygunluğu, kapak resmi, sayfa sayısının azlığı-çokluğu ve kitap boyutlarının uygunluğu, çocuğa kitap seçimini etkileyen önemli etkenlerdir. Velilerin çocukları için kitap seçiminde yaşadıkları zorluklar: çocuğun kitabı beğenmeme ihtimali, yaşa uygun kitap seçmenin zorluğu, çeşitli kitaplara erişmekte zorluk, kitap fiyatları, güncel kitapları bilememe, kitabın kültür ve toplumsal normlara uygun olmaması başlıca nedenler olarak görülmektedir. Bütün bu belirlemeler dikkate alındığında ailelerin kitap tercihlerinde desteğe ihtiyaç duydukları anlaşılmaktadır.

This community service activity was carried out with the aim of introducing and implementing a hydroponic plant system in Kalitengah Village through training activities. This was due to the potential that Kalitengah Village had, namely the enthusiasm of the Kalitengah Village community, especially the PKK group, for planting activities. The limited land of each resident's house was also the reason why hydroponic planting activities could be carried out. The method of this activity was socialization and training. The socialization was carried out as a method for delivering material about hydroponics, while the training was carried out as a method for practicing hydroponic plant nurseries, one of which was green lettuce. The results of this activity were seen through indicators of activity success. In general, this activity was attended by 60% of the total invitees. The participants took part in this activity with a high level of enthusiasm from the start of delivering the material to nursery practice. Through this training activity, the people of Kalitengah Village could immediately plant hydroponic plants without supervision from the KKN group so that this activity had a sustainable value.

Bu araştırmada Türkçe dersinde ödev algısının ne olduğu tüm yönleriyle ve derinlemesine ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırma olgubilim yöntemine göre yapılmıştır. Buna göre amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden uygun örneklemeye göre seçilmiş 25 Türkçe öğretmeni, 10 veli ve ölçüt örnekleme göre seçilmiş 24 öğrenci ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Türkçe dersinde öğretmenlerin öğrencilerin derse hazırbulunuşluklarını sağlamak, anlamlı ve kalıcı öğrenmelerini desteklemek için ödevler verdiği belirlenmiştir. Hem öğrenciler hem veliler akademik gelişim için ödevleri öğretimi destekleyici önemli bir unsur olarak görmektedir. Öğretmenlerin verdikleri ödevlerin yapısına baktığımızda bunlar; ders kitabı etkinlikleri, derse hazırlık çalışmaları, çoktan seçmeli soru çözme ve yazma çalışmalarıdır. Öğrenciler öğretmenlerin verdikleri bu ödevlerin kolay, basit ve öğretici nitelikte olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Ödevlerin okul-öğrenci-veli arasında etkileşim sağlayan öğretim etkinliği olduğu söylenebilir.

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the utilization possibilities of steel slags, basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) slags, as backfill material in coastal structures. Within the scope of the study, physical, mechanical and chemical properties of the steel slags were investigated and their potential to create environmental risks were evaluated. The results showed that soundness loss and filler content ratio were below the limit values for steel slags to be used as backfill material. It was determined that the density, porosity, water absorption and Los Angeles abrasion ratios of steel slags were generally higher than natural aggregates. In order to reach the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) limit (> 25%), the maximum particle size of the steel slag was reduced to 25 mm. In this particle size, CBR of the slag samples generally gave better results compared to the natural aggregate (38%), except for Kardemir and Asil samples. In addition, the concentration values of heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni, Zn, Hg and As) were below the limit values specified in the regulation. It is suggested that EAF slags should be aged for at least 6 months and BOF slags for at least 24 months in open air conditions before being used as backfill material in coastal structures after the maximum particle size is reduced to 25 mm.

Introduction:Gait impairment is the earliest symptom of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). This study objectively investigates gait changes using Ambulatory Parkinson’s Disease Monitoring inertial sensors after cerebrospinal fluid withdrawal in patients with iNPH.Methods:Two-minute walkway tests were performed in eleven patients with iNPH before and after the spinal tap test (TT) or ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. Gait parameters were analyzed and compared for each patient individually before and after the intervention.Results:Eleven patients with iNPH (six female, five male) with a median age of 76 (68-76) were included in the study. After the spinal TT or ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery, patients exhibited increased cadence (steps per minute) and decreased step and stride time (p=0.008, for all).Conclusion:APDM inertial sensors may provide a quantitative gait assessment in patients with iNPH.

Pumpkin is usually cultivated in arid and semiarid regions, and the lack of water stress-tolerant cultivars is a major limiting factor. Therefore, this study was carried out to identify superior water stress-tolerant genotypes. For this purpose, 44 inbred lines with superior agronomic traits were selected from the gene pool. In addition, two hybrids (G1-Mert Bey F1 and G2-Sena Hanim F1) and two landraces (G3-Hatun Tırnağı and G4-Cercevelik) with high commercial value were used as commercial cultivars. The water stress indices were calculated from seed yields from the pumpkin genotypes grown in irrigated and water stress conditions in 2017 and 2018. The stress tolerance index (STI) determines tolerant and superior genotypes. From the principal component and cluster analyses’ findings, G9, G40, G32, G36, G5, G11, G22, G30, G37, and G13 showed the highest water stress tolerance among the inbred lines. During future breeding experiments, these inbred lines may have significant potential for developing novel water stress-tolerant cultivars for pumpkin cultivation in semiarid regions.

Within the scope of this study, seeds were collected from Gypsophila bicolor (Freyn&Sint.) Grossh plants in their natural environment and two different locations (Turkey). The research was carried out to determine the effects of paclobutrazol applied at different concentrations (0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5- and 2.0-ml L-1) on the seedling height control in the cotyledon leaf stage of G. bicolor. As a result of the study, it was determined that the decrease in the number of leaves per plant was determined at a dose of 1.2 mg L-1 paclobutrazol. The effect of paclobutrazol treatments on the seedling height control of G. bicolor changed according to the genotype as well as the dose. As the dose of paclobutrazol applied increased, the number of side branches decreased. It was determined that the seedling stem thickness increased in 47.71% with the dose of 2.0 mg L-1 when compared to the control treatment. The application in which the highest chlorophyll (SPAD) value was obtained from the application with a dose of 1.5 mg L-1. The chlorophyll value of G2 (Genotype 2 (ERZ) (G2)) was higher than that of G1 (Genotype 1 (VAN)). Seedling biomass of G1 increased in 15.87% in 1.2 mg L-1 treatment when compared to control. In the present study, darker green leaves were obtained from the highest dose of paclobutrazol, 2.0 mg L-1. As a general result, it was concluded that 1.5 mg L-1 dose of paclobutrazol was sufficient for both genotypes for plant height control in the seedling period.

Vertical embankments and mounds serve as suitable habitats for burrowing birds, such as the Sand Martin (Riparia riparia). Sand Martins have decreased in many countries during the last two decades, possibly because of the decline in suitable nest sites. Therefore, it is important to understand the factors affecting nest burrowing and nest hole characteristics for the Sand Martin. A smaller entrance hole would be beneficial for regulating the internal environment of the nest, whereas deeper nests are more advantageous against nest predators and parasites. We examined the general structure of Sand Martin colonies and determined if particle size, pH, or electrical conductivity (EC) of the soil and the location of the colony affects the morphology of Sand Martin nest holes. We hypothesized that the climate of near lakeshore and non-lakeshore differs; consequently, we predicted that Sand Martins would construct wider nest tunnel entrances in more humid environments near the lakeshore than further from the lake. We also hypothesized that a lower pH of clay loam soil would result in an increasing level of exchangeable aluminum (Al) and acidity, which in turn would promote soil aggregation. Because soils with a low EC are more stable and less prone to flooding or erosion, we predicted that Sand Martins in such soils would have deeper nesting burrows. A total of four colonies were located in the study area in Turkey. They contained 2510 burrows, of which 91.83% were used for breeding. The mean colony size was 627. We measured the soil and the nest burrow characteristics from the 80 nest bottoms used for breeding by the Sand Martin. The mean pH was 8.8, and the mean EC was 171. Tunnel depth was longer in nests with greater pH and EC and in lakeshore than in non-lakeshore colonies. The distance between nest holes increased with the EC, and nests were located nearer to each other in the lakeshore colonies than in non-lakeshore colonies. The width of the entrance opening increased with soil particle size and was wider in nests located at the lakeshore areas. Our results indicated that Sand Martins will avoid sites with too compact or loose soils for nesting, probably to avoid nest collapses. Vertical lakeshore embankments offer good nesting sites for Sand Martins and should, therefore, be protected. Because soil particle size, pH, EC, and distance from the lakeshore influenced the nest hole characteristics of the Sand Martin, conservation and management efforts should take these variables into account when maintaining or establishing suitable soil conditions for the Sand Martin.

Çalışmanın amacı, bir tutarlılık değerlendirme çerçevesi geliştirmektir. Çalışmanın ilk aşamasında ilgili alanyazın taranmış ve metin tutarlığının değerlendirilmesine yönelik 15 çalışmaya ulaşılmıştır. 8 çalışmada ölçeklerin, kalan 7 çalışmada ise tema başlıklarının kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışmalardaki değerlendirme kriterleri karşılaştırılmış, kategorilere ayrılmış ve ortak değerlendirme kriterleri belirlenmiştir. Değerlendirme ölçütlerinin belirlenmesinde metin yazma süreçlerine odaklanan çalışmalardan yararlanılmıştır. Yapılan analize dayalı olarak konu, ana fikirler ve yardımcı fikirler, işlev, üst metin ve metin türüne uygun dil kullanımı, bağlantılar ve geçişler, içerik organizasyonu ve başlıktan oluşan 7 boyutlu bir değerlendirme çerçevesi oluşturulmuştur. Bu değerlendirme çerçevesinin metin yazarlarına ve değerlendiricilere rehberlik etmede yararlı bir araç olacağı umulmaktadır.

Abstract Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic and very mobile heavy metal that can be adsorbed and uptaken by plants in large quantities without any visible sign. Therefore, stabilization of Cd before uptake is crucial to the conservation of biodiversity and food safety. Owing to the high number of carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups in their structure, humic substances form strong bonds with heavy metals which makes them perfect stabilizing agents. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of humic and fulvic acid (HA + FA) levels (0, 3500, 5250, and 7000 mg/L) on alleviation of Cadmium (Cd) toxicity in garden cress (Lepidium sativum) contaminated with Cd (CdSO4.8H2O) (0, 100, and 200 Cd mg/kg) under greenhouse conditions. Our results showed that, Cd stress had a negative effect on the growth of garden cress, decreased leaf fresh, leaf dry, root fresh and root dry weights, leaf relative water content (LRWC), and mineral content except for Cd, and increased the membrane permeability (MP) and enzyme (CAT, SOD and POD) activity. However, the HA + FA applications decreased the adverse effects of the Cd pollution. At 200 mg/kg Cd pollution, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L increased the leaf fresh, leaf dry, root fresh, root dry weights, stem diameter, leaf area, chlorophyll reading value (CRV), MP, and LRWC values by 262%, 137%, 550%,133%, 92%, 104%, 34%, 537%, and 32% respectively, compared to the control. Although the highest H2O2, MDA, proline and sucrose values were obtained at 200 mg/L Cd pollution, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully alleviated the deleterious effects of Cd stress by decreasing H2O2, MDA, proline, and sucrose values by 66%, 68%, 70%, and 56%, respectively at 200 mg/kg Cd pollution level. HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully mitigated the negative impacts of Cd pollution by enhanced N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Mn, Zn, and B by 75%, 23%, 84%, 87%, 40%, 85%, 143%, 1%, 65%, and 115%, respectively. In addition, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully reduced Cd uptake by 95% and Cl uptake by 80%. Considering the plant growth parameters, the best results were determined when HA + FA concentration was 7000 mg/L. We have shown that, it is critical to apply a humic substance with high percentage of FA, which was 10% in this study, to mitigate the adverse effects of heavy metal stress on plant growth. In conclusion, the application of HA + FA may be suggested as an effective solution for reducing the Cd uptake of the plants by stabilizing Cd in soil and preventing translocation of Cd from the roots of plant to its shoot and leaves.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türk dili ve edebiyatı (TDE) öğretmenlerinin okuma alışkanlığı hakkındaki görüşlerini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma, durum çalışması olarak tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmaya veri toplamak için 14 TDE öğretmeni ile çalışılmıştır. Öğretmenlerle yapılan görüşmelerin içerik analizi yapılmış, liselerdeki öğrencilerde okuma alışkanlığının durumu incelenmiştir. Öğretmenler okuma alışkanlığını, sürekli ve düzenli okuma kültürü edinme olarak tanımlamıştır. Bu alışkanlığa sahip öğrencilerin dil becerilerinin diğerlerine göre daha iyi, akademik başarılarının da yüksek olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Öğretmenlere göre okuma alışkanlığının kazanılmasını engelleyen etmenler şunlardır: internet ve teknoloji araçlarının kullanımı, sosyal medyada geçirilen zaman ve televizyon izleme. Bunlara ayrılan zaman arttıkça öğrencinin kitap okumaya ayırdığı zaman azalmaktadır. Ayrıca okul derslerinin yoğun olması ve öğrencinin özellikle son sınıfta sınavlara hazırlanması okul dışı saatlerde okul derslerinin öncelemesine ve hobi olarak dahi okuma faaliyetinin ihmal edilmesine sebep olmaktadır. Öğrenciler en çok okul ya da halk kütüphaneleri aracılığıyla kitaplara erişmektedir. İstedikleri kitap kütüphanelerde yoksa kitapçılardan satın almaktadır. Öğrenciler kitap seçerken sırasıyla en çok; roman, şiir, anı, hikâye, biyografi, efsane türlerini; konu olarak da; macera, fantastik, polisiye, aşk, tarih, korku, bilim kurgu, gençlik, spor ve magazin konularını içeren kitapları tercih etmektedir. Öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığını geliştirmek için sınıfta; okuma saatleri, kitap söyleşileri, yazar ve eser tanıtımları, okuma grupları, kitapların filmlerinin izlenmesi, okuma dersleri ve yazar söyleşileri yapılabilir. Okulda; kitap okuma yarışmaları, kitap okuma projeleri, kitap kahramanları günü etkinliği, kitap kahramanları tiyatrosu, okul kütüphanesinde okuma etkinlikleri yapılabilir. Öğretmenler okul dışında; kitap fuarı gezileri, kitapla ilgili film izleme gibi etkinliklerin yapılabileceğini belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca öğretmenler bu konuda öğrencilere iyi bir örnek ve rehber olmalıdır.

The use of soilless culture in the cultivation of ornamental plants is becoming widespread, especially in the production of cut flowers. The aim of this review is to present a brief summary of both standard and new findings obtained from using soilless culture techniques in ornamental plant cultivation, based on a detailed literature review. In the researches reached for this review, Calendula officinalis L., Matthiola incana L., Pelargonium zonale L., Petunia x hybrita L., Pinus pinea, Cupressus arizonica, C. sempervirens, Sternbergia lutea, Galanthus elwesii Hook, Lilium candidum, Limonium sinuatum, Eustoma grandiflorum (Lisianthus russellianus) and Tulipa gesneriana species were evaluated as plant material. In the researches evaluated, different ornamental plant species, soilless culture techniques and substrates of soilless culture were examined and important results were obtained. Moreover, in the changing living conditions with COVID-19, people have grown plants in their gardens, balconies, terraces and even living rooms using simple hydroponic systems. Thus, they made the simplest practices of soilless culture and even brought it into their homes. It can be foreseen that the commercial and scientific use of hydroponic culture systems in ornamental plants will continue and rapidly increase.

This study aims to determine the effects of tebuconazole substance used at different doses on the quality of tomato seedlings, retrotransposon mobility caused by this substance in the plants and its genotoxic effects and to determine the optimum dose to be used in practice in seedling production. Tebuconazole applied different concentrations (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 ppm) were tested. According to the study results, the seedling length and stem length significantly according to the applied doses. The study found out that the stem, leaf and root dry matter contents and leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD values) also statistically significantly changed based on the applied doses. According to the data obtained, the lowest seedling length (12.68 cm) and stem length (4.75 cm) were obtained from a dose of 150 ppm. The highest dry matter content in seedlings was obtained at a dose of 50 ppm in stem (22%) and at 0 ppm (control) in leaves (25.01%) and root. In the study, the highest leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD values) was determined at doses of 150 ppm, 125 ppm and 75 ppm, respectively. This study revealed that various doses of tebuconazole had a positive effect on controlling the height of tomato seedlings and specific quality characteristics of seedlings. In addition, molecular analyzes showed that polymorphism ratios in plants that were applied the substance at different doses varied between 4.70% and 38.09% and the GTS (genomic template stability) value varied between 61.91% and 95.30%. Analyses indicated that the polymorphism ratio increased depending on the increase in dose whereas the GTS value decreased.

Ornamental plants are used to improve the aestheticquality of urban and rural landscapes, recreational areas, interiorscapes and commercial sites. Any negative effects of salts on ornamental plant growth have to be taken into consideration mainly for their negative influences on aesthetic value of ornamental plants. The research was conducted to determine the effects of different concentrations of calcium nitrate on some stress parameters (i.e. leaf relative water content, chlorophyll, stomatal conductance, ion leakage in the leaf tissues) and some plant growth parameters (total leaf number, number of dried leaf, main stem diameter, plant crown diameter, plant height, fresh and dry weight of root) of ornamental kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala) plant grown under saline conditions. Four doses of NaCl (NaCl1:30, NaCl2:60, NaCl3:90, NaCl4:120 mM), three doses of Ca(NO3)2 (CaN1:5, CaN2:10, CaN3:15 mM), groups combined together in all doses of NaCl and Ca (NO3)2 and control (NaCl0:0 + CaN0:0) were applied into the pots with three replications. Ca (NO3)2 was applied to the leaf surface of the plants in the pots to be applied as Ca (NO3)2 spray. When the plants reached a certain maturity (two weeks after transfer to the pot), salt stress applications were started. Ca (NO3)2 treatments have applied after one week from salt stress applications. Calcium nitrate treatements applied under salt stress conditions had positive effects and increasing in effect on all parameters examined except for chlorophyll and ion leakage in leaf tissues of the plant. With increasing in calcium nitrate concentration, morphological and physiological characteristics of plants were observed increases in general. It was concluded that the increase of the number of leaves by NaCl2+CaN3 application can be minimized with CaN3 (with 15 mM Ca (NO3)2) stress caused by 60 mM salt concentration According to the results of the research, calcium nitrate applications can be recommended for ornamental kale plants grown under salt stress conditions especially limiting the negative effects of stress and to minimize such damage.

Water stress is one of the main constraints which could limits crop productivity, especially in arid and semi-arid regions characterized limited water resources. This study was conducted to investigate the seed yield, oil and mineral contents of 44 lines and 4 commercial pumpkin varieties (2 local and 2 hybrids) in irrigated and drought stress conditions. The study was conceived as a randomized block design with three replications and carried out during the 2017 growing season. On average, the irrigated plots produced 161.27 kg da–1 seed yield whereas it was 33.67 kg da–1 in non-irrigated plots. The highest yield among the commercial pumpkin varieties was obtained from the G2 hybrid variety in the irrigated conditions. On the other hand, in the non-irrigated plots, higher seed yields were obtained from G9, G34, and G36 pure lines. Drought resulted in a remarkable decrease in the total oil content and significant increase in the amount of Ca and Zn in pumpkin seeds. These results clearly indicated that G9 line, which has the highest seed yield in both irrigated and drought conditions, can be utilized as a recommendable parental pumpkin line in future hybrid breeding efforts.

To determine effects of intercropping broccoli with onion and their correspondence to different nitrogen concentrations on growth, yield and nutrient contents, field studies were conducted for two years. In intercropping plots, onion sets were planted between broccoli rows. Broccoli and onion plants were also grown as monocrops. Nitrogen was applied at three different rates (160, 200 and 240 kg ha–1) in both mono and intercrop plots of broccoli. The overall efficiency of intercropping was evaluated by employing land equivalent ratios (LERs). Cropping systems significantly did not affect chlorophyll reading value, yield and other parameters observed. However, nitrogen application rate had significant effect on these parameters. The highest values of these parameters were generally observed in 240 kg ha–1 nitrogen application. Macro and microelement content of broccoli leaves was affected neither by cropping systems nor by nitrogen fertilization except for N, Mn, Zn and NO3. Intercropping increased plant height but decreased the plant diameter of onion. There wasn’t significant decrease in plant weight of intercropped onion at 240 kg ha–1 nitrogen treatment when compared to monocropping. Broccoli intercropped with onion at 240 kg ha–1 nitrogen had the highest LER values, showing that intercropping practice could be more productive than monocropping especially in case of 240 kg ha–1 nitrogen application.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) in oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse model. Methods: In this experimental study, 10 C57BL / 6J type mice exposed to room air comprised two control groups (n = 5 each; a negative control and a group receiving intravitreal sterile dimethyl sulfoxide [IVS DMSO]). Thirty C57BL / 6J type mice exposed to 75% ± 2% oxygen from postnatal day 7 to postnatal day 12 comprised the OIR groups. On postnatal day 12, these mice were randomized into six groups (n = 5 each): two OIR control groups (negative control and IVS DMSO), two intravitreal C3G groups (300 and 600 ng/μL), and two intraperitoneal C3G groups (0.05 and 0.1 mg/kg). We quantified neovascularization by counting endothelial cell proliferation on the vitreal side of the inner limiting membrane of the retina and examined histological and ultrastructural changes via light and electron microscopy and apoptosis by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase deoxy-UTP-nick end labeling. Results: The intravitreal C3G groups yielded lower endothelial cell counts compared with the intravitreal DMSO group. The intraperitoneal high-dose group had lower cell counts compared with the OIR control groups. Electron microscopy revealed significantly less mitochondrial dysmorphology in intravitreal groups and the high-dose intraperitoneal mice. We noted no difference in apoptotic cell count between the controls, low-dose intravitreal, and both intraperitoneal groups. However, apoptotic cell count was significantly higher in the high-dose intravitreal group. Conclusion: C3G suppresses endothelial cell proliferation in an OIR mouse model, leads to a reduced hyperoxia-induced mitochondrial dysmorphology, but increases apoptotic cell death in high concentrations.

The use of environmental and sustainable ornamental flower production practices with renewable resources has drawn worldwide interest. One of these renewable resources is vermicompost (earthworm castings). In recent years, increasing demand for improving environmental quality have focused on the importance of Plant Growth Promotion Bacteria (PGPBs) in agriculture. Vermicomposts also help microbial agents function effectively in soil. In this study, a total of six treatments [A: PGPB formulation, B: Not autoclaved vermicompost, C: Autoclaved vermicompost, D: Not autoclaved vermicompost+PGPBs, E: Autoclaved vermicompost+PGPBs, F: Control (untreated bacteria and vermicompost)] were tested for their effects on the plant growth and development parameters in gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L. ‘Red Beauty’) in greenhouse condition. Vermicompost was added to the related pots by dissolving in water. After the addition of vermicompost, PGPB formulation was given immediately to related pots. All the treatments were applied to soil once in three leaf stage, close to the plant root zone. Parameters in terms of yield and quality attributes of plant and corm were determined and analyzed. The treatment A increased in plant height of gladiolus of 24.55% rate. The earliest times to flowering was determined in E application (100.48 day), which also increased in corm diameter with rate of 17.41% and number of corms and cormels with rate of 151.83% according to F application. Results indicated that the treatment E promoted overall better performance as compared to other treatments diameter of flowers for number of leaves per plant, number of florets per spike, stem diameter, spike length, fresh and dry weight of flowers, the number and diameter of corm. Autoclaved vermicompost can be good choice in gladiolus cultivation but it should be enriched with PGPB.

Safran, süsengiller Iridaceae familyasından ve sonbaharda çiçek açan, soğanlı bitkilerden biridir. Ekonomik değeri yüksek, tıbbı ve aromatik bitkilerden biri olan bu bitkinin üretiminin geliştirilmesinde en büyük engel tohumluk olarak kullanılan soğanların yetersizliğidir. Safran bitkisinin kormlarının çoğalmasında mikrobiyal gübre olarak azot fiksasyonu yapabilme, fosfatı çözebilme ve hormon IAA, GA3 üretebilme özelliğine sahip bakteri izolatlarının kullanımı hedeflenmiştir. Böylece, nesli tehlike altında olan türlerden olan safranın yok olması önlenebilir ve bir süs bitkisi olarak üretiminin yaygınlaştırılmasıyla türlerin devamı sağlanabilir. Bu çalışmada, toplam on uygulama 1 Achromobacter xylosoxidans strain TV-42A, 2 Brevibacillus choshinensis strain TV-53D, 3 Myroides odoratus strain TV-85C, 4 Bacillus megaterium strain TV-87A, 5 Colwellia psycrerytreae strain TV-108G, 6 Kluyvera cryocrescens strain TV113C and 7 Bacillus GC group B strain TV119E, 8 Kontrol bakteri ve hormon uygulamasız 9 Kontrol 2 [100 mg L-1 IBA indole-3 butyric acid ] ve 10 Kontrol 3 [100 mg L-1 GA3 gibberellic acid ] safranın bitki büyüme ve gelişim parametreleri üzerindeki etkilerini belirlemek için test edilmiştir. Sera koşullarında, yavru korm sayısı, yavru korm çapı mm , yavru korm uzunluğu mm , yavru korm ağırlığı g ve kormların makro ve mikro N, K, P, Mg, S, Ca, Na, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, B ve Cd besin içerikleri belirlenmiştir. Safranın büyüme ve verim değerleri, bakteri uygulamalarının bazılarında hormon uygulamalarından daha yüksek veya eşit şekilde elde edilmiştir. Organik tarımda kullanılan biyogübrelerin, safranın bitki büyüme ve gelişimini artırması üzerine olumlu bir etkiye sahip olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır

As opposed to direct sowing, production of seedlings of vegetable crops for transplanting is commonly practiced by vegetable growers. This study was undertaken to determine the effects of humic acid on the growth and the macro and micro nutrients contents in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and eggplant (Solanum melongena var. esculentum) seedlings under greenhouse conditions. Different levels of humic acid (50, 100, 150, 200 ml l-1) were applied to growing media (peat) after transplanting of examined seedlings of the species every ten days by the time of planting. The highest growth rate for leaf stem and root growth were obtained at 50 and 100 ml l-1 HA and 50, 100, 150 ml l-1 HA for tomato and eggplant seedlings., respectively as compared to the control. The highest content of macro and micronu trient contents were obtained at 100 ml l-1 HA and 200 ml l-1 HA for tomato and egg plant seedlings, respectively as compared to the control.

This research was conducted to determine the effects of two biostimulants (humic acid and biozyme) or three different salt (NaCl) concentrations at the temperature 10, 15, 20 and 25°C on parsley, leek, celery, tomato, onion, lettuce, basil, radish and garden cress seed germination. Two applications of both biostimulants increased seed germination of parsley, celery and leek at all temperature treatments. Germination rate decreased depending on high salt concentrations. At different salt and temperature levels garden cress was characterised by the highest germination percentage compared to other vegetable species.Interactions between NaCl concentrations and temperatures, as welI as biostimulants and temperatures were significant at p=0.001 in for all vegetable species except onion in NaCl concentrations and temperatures compared to that of the control.

Ninety-seven tomato landraces collected from East Anatolian region of Turkey and North-West of Iran, along with three commercial cultivars were evaluated during two years. Experiment was carried out in an alpha lattice design at Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center of West Azerbaijan, Iran. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation (P ≤ 0.01) among genotypes for all the experimental characters. Yield showed a positive and significant correlation with length and width of cotyledon leaf, length and width of true leaf, fruit weight, fruit length and diameter, pericarp thickness and fruit peduncle length. In principal component analysis, the first three components explained for 71.6% of total variations among genotypes. Since the first component determined 50% of total variations and yield had high significant coefficient with this component, thus it might be used as s selection criteria to identify genotypes with high yield in breeding programs. Cluster analysis using Ward method classified genotypes into five groups. Groups included: early maturing genotypes in group I, genotypes with high yield in group II, genotypes with large fruit in group III, late maturing and high total soluble solids (TSS) genotypes in group IV and genotypes with high acidity in group V.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of different plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) strains on growth and quality of cauliflower transplants under greenhouse conditions. The strains of Bacillus megaterium TV-3D, B. megaterium TV-91C, Pantoea agglomerans RK-92, B. subtilis TV-17C, B. megaterium TV-87A, B. megaterium KBA-10 were used in this study. The results of this study showed that different bacterial inoculations increased plant growth parameters such as fresh shoot weight, dry shoot weight, root diameter, root length, fresh root weight, dry root weight, plant height, stem diameter, leaf area and chlorophyll contents of cauliflower transplant respectively. Except for abscisic acid (ABA), the values of gibberellic acid (GA), salicylic acid (SA), indole acetic acid (IAA) was increased by ratio of 23.64, 89.54 and 25.63%, respectively in compared to the control by application of B. megaterium KBA-10 and P. agglomerans RK-92. The amount of organic acids with B. subtilis TV-17C PGPR applications have increased at a ranging ratio from 9.63 to 186.02%. Also, PGPR inoculations increased the macro and micro nutrient content of cauliflower transplants. As a result, the use of bacteria treatments may provide a means of improving transplant growth and quality in cauliflower.

Various fertilizers are used in order to increase the yield and quality of the cultivated vegetables. Therefore, products obtained from different sources can be used as fertilizer. Fertilizers produced with nanotechnology are one of them. Fertilizers derived from nanotechnology have started to attract attention in agriculture nowadays. This study was undertaken to determine the effects of nanotechnology liquid fertilizer on the plant growth and yield of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). The experiment was carried out in the Department of Horticulture at Ataturk University under unheated greenhouse conditions in Erzurum, Turkey, in 2011–2012. The doses of 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 L ha-1 of Nanonat and Ferbanat were used as fertilizer source. The plant leaves were sprayed with Nanonat and Ferbanat suspension until becoming wet at ten day intervals for three times during plant growth. The results showed that the fertilizer treatments significantly improved the yield compared to control. According to the average of years the highest yield (149.17 t ha-1) occurred in Ferbanat 4.0 L ha-1 application. As a result, this study suggested that the foliar applications of liquid fertilizer could improve the plant growth and yield of cucumbers.

A review of the recent literature on the models that focus on resource leveling in Critical Path Method networks shows that different objective functions have been used to optimize resource utilization. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impacts of using different objective functions on resource utilization histograms in Critical Path Method networks. For this purpose, nine different resource leveling objective functions were optimized via a genetic algorithm-based model. The model was developed using actual data obtained from a steel framed industrial building construction project. It was found that each of these objective functions generates different resource utilization histograms. In order to determine the improvement levels achieved by resource leveling using nine different objective functions, the improvement percentage in each parameter and the average improvement percentage for each objective function were calculated. Even though the objective function that involves the minimization of the sum of the square of the deviations in daily resource usage provided the best average improvement percentage in the studied case, another objective function(s) may provide better average improvement percentage in different projects. The contractor should consider all objective functions for resource leveling and select the one(s) that provides the best average improvement percentage.

Os programas de residência médica, em especial na cirurgia, vêm passando por modificações constantes, não só em nosso meio, como internacionalmente. Em virtude da deterioração da valorização e remuneração médica, as expectativas e perfil do médico residente na área cirúrgica vêm mudando. A avaliação das atitudes, experiência durante o treinamento e expectativas profissionais nos residentes é tópico importante. Recentes trabalhos internacionais publicados na área demonstram tal fato. É digno de nota a ausência de trabalhos semelhantes em nosso meio e a raridade em outros países. O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar em médicos residentes da área de cirurgia, através de questionário, atitudes, experiências durante o treinamento e expectativas profissionais. Foram aplicados e analisados questionários adaptados e traduzidos para o Português em 50 residentes de ambos os sexos e diferentes anos de residência. Os resultados deste trabalho mostram alta satisfação com a especialidade, porém grande preocupação financeira e opiniões conflitantes quanto ao futuro da especiliadade;
