Abstract Decentralised federated learning (DFL) transforms collaborative energy consumption prediction using distributed computation across a large network of edge nodes, ensuring data confidentiality by eliminating central data aggregation. Preserving individual privacy in energy forecasting is paramount, as it safeguards personal data from unauthorised examination. This highlights the importance of effectively handling local data to provide privacy protection. The authors proposed a DFL framework for residential energy forecasting, focusing on improving the performance and convergence of the collaborative model. The proposed framework enables local training of the long short‐term memory model with real‐time household energy data in a ring topology. Importantly, the framework addresses the issue of straggler nodes, nodes that lag in computation or communication, by proposing a heuristic straggler identification and mitigation mechanism to reduce their negative impact on overall system performance and communication efficiency. This approach improves collaborative energy prediction performance and ensures an overall reduction in waiting time, thus improving the convergence performance. Experimental results consistently demonstrate a low mean absolute error ranging from 3 to 3.2 across all edge nodes. The empirical findings unequivocally illustrate the efficiency of the proposed DFL architecture, highlighting its ability to improve communication efficiency and concurrently enhance performance.

Deep learning has played a vital role in advancing medical research, particularly in brain tumor segmentation. Despite using numerous deep learning algorithms for this purpose, accurately and reliably segmenting brain tumors remains a significant challenge. Segmentation of precise tumors is essential for the effective treatment of brain diseases. While deep learning offers a range of algorithms for segmentation, they still face limitations when analyzing medical images due to the variations in tumor shape, size, and location. This study proposes a deep learning approach combining a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) with transfer learning and auto-encoder techniques to enhance brain tumor segmentation. The GAN incorporates a generator and discriminator to generate superior segmentation outcomes. In the generator, we applied downsampling and upsampling for tumor segmentation. In addition, an auto-encoder is applied in which the encoder retains as much information as possible and then the decoder with those encodings reconstructs the image. The transfer learning technique is applied at the bottleneck using the DenseNet model. Combining auto-encoder techniques with transfer learning methodologies in GANs feature learning is enhanced, training time is reduced, and stability is increased. In this work, we enhanced the accuracy of brain tumor segmentation and even achieved better results for tumors having small sizes. We train and evaluate our proposed model using the publicly available BraTS 2021 dataset. The experimental result shows a dice score of 0.94 for the whole tumor, 0.86 for the tumor core, and 0.82 for the enhancing tumor. It is also shown that we achieve 2% to 4% higher accuracy than other methods.

There has been a significant amount of attention in recent years toward the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in the realm of legal decision-making. This growing pattern reveals a higher interest among academics and legal professionals in utilizing AI technologies to enhance a number of legal system components. Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as machine learning and natural language processing, possess the capacity to analyze vast quantities of legal data, extract valuable insights, and facilitate decision-making processes. The primary aim of this study is to develop a sophisticated framework for judicial decision-making that incorporates methodologies from artificial intelligence and utilizes the dataset from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The utilization of this methodology holds promise in improving the decision-making procedures of legal professionals and reducing the laborious task of manually analyzing legal documents. As a result, this can lead to the facilitation of more accurate predictions of court rulings. Our research introduces a hybrid ensemble model designed specifically for smart court rulings. This innovative approach harnesses the benefits of pre-trained embeddings and large language models to accurately predict court decisions. By utilizing the power of pre-existing embeddings and incorporating the capabilities of advanced language models, our proposed model demonstrates enhanced predictive accuracy and efficiency in the context of court rulings. We also focus on the models’ feasible interpretability and highlight their ability to determine key factors in legal decision-making. We attain a notably high accuracy score of around 83%. Our research illuminates how large language models (LLMs) and advanced deep learning techniques can be utilized to predict legal outcomes.

The present era is characterized by the interconnection, communication, connectivity, and data exchange of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. However, current systems often neglect to incorporate security protocols for IoT devices in the energy sector, the Internet of Medical Things, smart homes, and other areas. This poses a significant challenge in IoT networks as these devices possess constrained resources, making them vulnerable to attacks. Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access and retrieve sensitive information or data from the targeted devices. This paper presents a machine learning-driven intrusion detection system to tackle these issues, aiming to devise a system for early identification of such attacks. The system is tested using the WUSTL and UNSW-NB18 datasets to detect Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) and Botnet attacks. The developed system selects the optimal features from both datasets using Mutual Information (MI) and chi-square feature selection. It applies the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) resampling method to resample the attack class and the Random Under Sampling method to resample the normal class. This study utilizes TabNet, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest (RF) for both datasets. The performance is then compared with the proposed Ensemble Weighted Voting (EWV) classifier. The experimental results show that the proposed method PSO-EWV on the WUSTL dataset achieves 99.958% and 99.992% F-scores on the UNSW 2018 dataset for MITM attack and Botnet attack classification with MI feature selection. The experimental findings conclude that this method effectively detects attacks within an intrusion detection system.

Accurate depth information is crucial for various computer vision applications such as augmented reality, 3D modeling, and autonomous vehicles. Recent advancements have significantly improved both supervised and self-supervised methods for depth estimation. However, most current approaches primarily focus on monocular depth estimation and face challenges in overcoming quality limitations due to the inherent constraints of supervised learning in deep neural networks. Incorporating temporal information from sequential frames can enhance the quality of these methods. This paper explores innovative methods for integrating recurrent blocks into existing pipelines for supervised depth estimation using convolutional long short-term memory (convLSTM). By utilizing convLSTM, we can capture a wealth of valuable information. To accurately measure object distances, we employed a geospatial approach. After extensive analysis of training methods, new deep neural network architectures have been designed specifically for monocular video depth estimation. Our research emphasizes using an attention mechanism to extract information from previous frames. The proposed approach effectively measures both long and short-range object distances by combining geospatial and temporal mechanisms, demonstrating superior performance in monocular depth estimation tasks.

Sugar in the blood can harm individuals and their vital organs, potentially leading to blindness, renal illness, as well as kidney and heart diseases. Globally, diabetic patients face an average annual mortality rate of 38%. This study employs Chi-square, mutual information, and sequential feature selection (SFS) to choose features for training multiple classifiers. These classifiers include an artificial neural network (ANN), a random forest (RF), a gradient boosting (GB) algorithm, Tab-Net, and a support vector machine (SVM). The goal is to predict the onset of diabetes at an earlier age. The classifier, developed based on the selected features, aims to enable early diagnosis of diabetes. The PIMA and early-risk diabetes datasets serve as test subjects for the developed system. The feature selection technique is then applied to focus on the most important and relevant features for model training. The experiment findings conclude that the ANN exhibited a spectacular performance in terms of accuracy on the PIMA dataset, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of 99.35%. The second experiment, conducted on the early diabetes risk dataset using selected features, revealed that RF achieved an accuracy of 99.36%. Based on our experimental results, it can be concluded that our suggested method significantly outperformed baseline machine learning algorithms already employed for diabetes prediction on both datasets.

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) play a crucial role in safeguarding network infrastructures from cyber threats and ensuring the integrity of highly sensitive data. Conventional IDS technologies, although successful in achieving high levels of accuracy, frequently encounter substantial model bias. This bias is primarily caused by imbalances in the data and the lack of relevance of certain features. This study aims to tackle these challenges by proposing an advanced machine learning (ML) based IDS that minimizes misclassification errors and corrects model bias. As a result, the predictive accuracy and generalizability of the IDS are significantly improved. The proposed system employs advanced feature selection techniques, such as Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), sequential feature selection (SFS), and statistical feature selection, to refine the input feature set and minimize the impact of non-predictive attributes. In addition, this work incorporates data resampling methods such as Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique and Edited Nearest Neighbor (SMOTE_ENN), Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN), and Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique–Tomek Links (SMOTE_Tomek) to address class imbalance and improve the accuracy of the model. The experimental results indicate that our proposed model, especially when utilizing the random forest (RF) algorithm, surpasses existing models regarding accuracy, precision, recall, and F Score across different data resampling methods. Using the ADASYN resampling method, the RF model achieves an accuracy of 99.9985% for botnet attacks and 99.9777% for Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach in dealing with imbalanced data distributions. This research not only improves the abilities of IDS to identify botnet and MITM attacks but also provides a scalable and efficient solution that can be used in other areas where data imbalance is a recurring problem. This work has implications beyond IDS, offering valuable insights into using ML techniques in complex real-world scenarios.

Federated Learning (FL) has emerged as a promising methodology for collaboratively training machine learning models on decentralized devices. Notwithstanding, the effective synchronization and consolidation of model updates originating from diverse devices, in conjunction with the appropriate configuration of network topologies, persist as crucial obstacles. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the current techniques and methodologies utilized in the synchronization, consolidation, and network topologies of Federated Learning. The present study explores diverse synchronization strategies utilized for the purpose of coordinating model updates from geographically distributed cross-silo edge nodes. The study takes into account several factors, including communication efficiency and privacy preservation. This study delves into the intricacies of model consolidation techniques, such as weighted and personalized aggregation methods, to evaluate their efficacy in consolidation of local model updates into a global model, while taking into consideration statistical heterogeneity and resource constraints. In addition, an examination is conducted on the importance of network topologies in Federated Learning (FL), taking into account their influence on communication efficacy, confidentiality, expandability, resilience, and resource allocation. The survey assesses and contrasts the efficacies and constraints of extant methodologies, discerns deficiencies in present investigations, and provides insights for future progressions. The objective of this survey is to provide a thorough examination of FL synchronization, consolidation, and network topologies, with the intention of offering a valuable reference for individuals engaged in Federated Learning, including researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders. This survey aims to support the advancement of more effective and resilient FL systems.

Text classification is a common task in natural language processing (NLP), where the objective is to assign predefined categories or labels to a given text. Detecting sarcasm and classifying sentiment and dialect in NLP has practical applications, including spam detection, topic classification, and sentiment analysis. However, sarcasm and sentimental expressions, such as irony, humor, or criticism, can be difficult to identify through traditional NLP methods due to their implicit nature. To address this, we propose a Modified Switch Transformer (MST) for detecting sarcasm and classifying sentiment and dialect in Arabic text data. Our approach includes two key contributions: Variational Enmesh Expert’s Routing ( $VE_{e}R$ ) and Probabilistic Projections ( $P_{\phi} $ ). The switch transformer model incorporates probabilistic projections using a Variational Spatial Gated Unit-MLP to enhance the embedding generation mechanism. This updated mechanism introduces a variational aspect, providing dynamic control over the flow of information in the network, in contrast to the simpler embedding generation phase used in the original switch transformer. Moreover, we incorporate Variational Enmesh Expert’s Routing, which utilizes a hierarchical set of Variational experts, where each expert is a small and variational-directed acyclic graph network. The $VE_{e}R$ routing technique allows the network to dynamically choose which path to take at each layer based on the input, using a set of weights learned during training to determine the best route for a given input. Instead of optimizing route paths deterministically, we utilize Variational Inference and model each route as a random variable from a distribution. Our study evaluates the effectiveness of the Modified Switch Transformer (MST) model on the ArSarcasm Dataset, which includes Arabic language data related to sarcasm, dialect, and sentiments. We compare the performance of our proposed model with existing state-of-the-art models in the literature. The results show that the switch transformer outperforms other models in detecting sarcasm and also performs well in classifying sentiment and dialect.

Water drilling machines are used to drill boreholes in the ground to extract groundwater. The resources required for water drilling vary from region to region due to underground water table depth and ground soil layer. Water drilling on a hard underground soil layer requires different resources than a soft underground. The proposed study facilitates the drilling industry by selecting the region with a soft land layer and increasing the penetration rate. Furthermore, the number of days and water table depth prediction allows the drilling industry to estimate the depth of the water table and time resources to reach the water table at different locations. The classification techniques classify the region based on the soil land layer. Regression techniques are used for predicting water table depth and number of days. The experiments are performed on a borehole log dataset provided by a research organization. This study used Support Vector Machine, TabNet, and Deep Tabular models to predict the land soil layer and compare the results with our proposed Ensemble Weighted Voting Soil Layer Classifier (EWV-SLC). The performance of the classification model is evaluated using accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1 Score. The experimental finding shows that the EWV-SLC model performs better in accuracy and F1 score than other machine learning techniques. The performance of the regression model is evaluated using Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE),Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE). In a days and water table depth prediction phase Support, Vector Regressor, Deep Neural Network, and TabNet Regressor are used, and compare the results with our proposed Ensemble Number of Days (E-NOD) and Ensemble Water Table depth (E-WTD) Regressor model. E-NOD and E-WTD models achieved less MAE, RMSE, and MSE than other machine learning methods.

A brain tumor is the growth of abnormal cells in certain brain tissues with a high mortality rate; therefore, it requires high precision in diagnosis, as a minor human judgment can eventually cause severe consequences. Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) serves as a non-invasive tool to detect the presence of a tumor. However, Rician noise is inevitably instilled during the image acquisition process, which leads to poor observation and interferes with the treatment. Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems can perform early diagnosis of the disease, potentially increasing the chances of survival, and lessening the need for an expert to analyze the MRIs. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have proven to be very effective in tumor detection in brain MRIs. There have been multiple studies dedicated to brain tumor classification; however, these techniques lack the evaluation of the impact of the Rician noise on state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and the consideration of the scaling impact on the performance of the deep learning as the size and location of tumors vary from image to image with irregular shape and boundaries. Moreover, transfer learning-based pre-trained models such as AlexNet and ResNet have been used for brain tumor detection. However, these architectures have many trainable parameters and hence have a high computational cost. This study proposes a two-fold solution: (a) Multi-Scale CNN (MSCNN) architecture to develop a robust classification model for brain tumor diagnosis, and (b) minimizing the impact of Rician noise on the performance of the MSCNN. The proposed model is a multi-class classification solution that classifies MRIs into glioma, meningioma, pituitary, and non-tumor. The core objective is to develop a robust model for enhancing the performance of the existing tumor detection systems in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Furthermore, MRIs are denoised using a Fuzzy Similarity-based Non-Local Means (FSNLM) filter to improve the classification results. Different evaluation metrics are employed, such as accuracy, precision, recall, specificity, and F1-score, to evaluate and compare the performance of the proposed multi-scale CNN and other state-of-the-art techniques, such as AlexNet and ResNet. In addition, trainable and non-trainable parameters of the proposed model and the existing techniques are also compared to evaluate the computational efficiency. The experimental results show that the proposed multi-scale CNN model outperforms AlexNet and ResNet in terms of accuracy and efficiency at a lower computational cost. Based on experimental results, it is found that our proposed MCNN2 achieved accuracy and F1-score of 91.2% and 91%, respectively, which is significantly higher than the existing AlexNet and ResNet techniques. Moreover, our findings suggest that the proposed model is more effective and efficient in facilitating clinical research and practice for MRI classification.

Smart factory is an exemplification of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), connecting devices to expedite the production process and delivery of customized products. Today’s intelligent manufacturing systems strive to develop low cost product with robust manufacturing process to compete the global market challenges. Though the quest to provide robust, reliable, adaptive, proactive, and real-time services to smart factory production processes has got little attention. To this aim, establishment of a robust solution for efficient resource utilization, load balancing and task scheduling has become a de-facto necessity. This paper presents an enhanced learning assisted task scheduling mechanism based on task Criticality and Collapse Aware Scheduling (CCAS) algorithm. The proposed mechanism is developed using two modules; namely task scheduling mechanism based on task criticality and collapse aware strategy, and an ensemble prediction model i.e., Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) to proactively predict the machine utilization and task safe execution status. The proposed ensemble learning framework provides high level feature abstraction by learning the task parameters to predict task status and machine utilization. Furthermore, an intelligent scheduling mechanism is developed for optimal resource allocation to maximize the production in constrained smart manufacturing machine’s network. Extensive experimentation and comparative analysis with the conventional Rate Monotonic (RM) algorithm has been carried out to validate the performance of the proposed approach. The results demonstrate that the proposed enhanced scheduling mechanism yields superior performance in terms of response time, task dropout and starvation rates compared to the conventional RM method. The developed predictive CCAS scheduling reduced response time, task dropout and starvation rate by 13%, 15%, and 14% respectively, compared to the baseline RM scheduling approach. The results shows that the CCAS shall enhance the resource utilization in smart factory yielding enhanced productivity and reduced cost of production.

Information retrieval from huge social web data is a challenging task for conventional search engines. Recently, information filtering recommender systems may help to find movies, however, their services are limited because of not considering movie quality aspects in detail. Prediction of movies can be improved by using the characteristics of social web content about a movie such as social-quality, tag quality, and a temporal aspect. In this paper, we have proposed to utilize several features of social quality, user reputation and temporal features to predict popular or highly rated movies. Moreover, enhanced optimization-based voting classifier is proposed to improve the performance on proposed features. Voting classifier uses the knowledge of all the candidate classifiers but ignores the performance of the model on different classes. In the proposed model, weight is assigned to each model based on its performance for each class. For the optimal selection of weights for the candidate classifiers, Genetic Algorithm is used and the proposed model is called Genetic Algorithm Voting (GA-V) classifier. After labeling the suggested features by using a fixed threshold, several classifiers like Bayesian logistic regression, Naïve Bayes, BayesNet, Random Forest, SVM, Decision Tree, LSTM and AdaboostM1 are trained on MovieLens dataset to find high-quality/popular movies in different categories. All the traditional ML models are compared with GA-V in terms of precision, recall and F1 score. The results show the significance of the proposed features and proposed GA-V classifier.

In information retrieval and text mining, document clustering is a big challenge because the amount of document collection has been increasing, day by day. The problem of clustering is NP-hard, use of meta-heuristic algorithms to solve these problems could be an effective method. When the solution space is large, traditional methods are unable to find a solution in a reasonable amount of time. K-means is a heuristic clustering algorithm, two main issues with heuristic algorithms are the early convergence and trapping in local optima. Moreover, finding the right number of clusters is one of the main drawbacks of the k-means algorithm. The correct value of k is always confusing, different researchers used different methods to solve this problem. To overcome these mentioned problems, this study presents a novel Hybrid approach for document clustering. One of the challenges in existing BH algorithm is the input data type. Recently, the algorithm was only accepting textual data. Another flaw in the existing model is that it doesn’t choose how many clusters k to form automatically, and the centroids are chosen at random in it. In this paper, we have constructed a Hybrid cluster identification approach which consists of the Elbow method and Silhouette score for cluster k identification. This paper mainly offers three novel combination of model to represent text documents, namely i) K-mean++ - BH + TF-IDF with fix k ii) K-mean++ - BH + W2V with fix k iii) Hybrid Black Hole with automated k. The proposed improvements have validated on the document clustering problem. Cluster analysis based on two evaluation measures, external (Purity) and internal measures (Silhouette score) are used to report the findings. Experiments have been carried out on the four al-phanumeric datasets (Doc50, Reuters, WebKB and News20) as well as on two numeric datasets (Iris and Wine) respectively. The complete result analysis is reported in detail with respect to each research contribution to compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with existing clustering methods. Result shows that the proposed Hybrid BH algorithm outperforms better than the existing clustering methods for all datasets. The clustering of data with and without stop words is examined; additionally, the two alternative word embedding used for data exploration in conjunction with proposed model are also evaluated. In the present study, proposed Hybrid BH algorithm handles the optimal value of k efficiently. This is one of the major contributions of the paper, concluded that Hybrid Black Hole is an effective algorithm for cluster analysis.

The intrinsic and liveness detection behavior of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals has made it an emerging biometric modality for the researcher with several applications including forensic, surveillance and security. The main challenge is the low recognition performance with datasets of large populations, including healthy and heart-disease patients, with a short interval of an ECG signal. This research proposes a novel method with the feature-level fusion of the discrete wavelet transform and a one-dimensional convolutional recurrent neural network (1D-CRNN). ECG signals were preprocessed by removing high-frequency powerline interference, followed by a low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 1.5 Hz for physiological noises and by baseline drift removal. The preprocessed signal is segmented with PQRST peaks, while the segmented signals are passed through Coiflets’ 5 Discrete Wavelet Transform for conventional feature extraction. The 1D-CRNN with two long short-term memory (LSTM) layers followed by three 1D convolutional layers was applied for deep learning-based feature extraction. These combinations of features result in biometric recognition accuracies of 80.64%, 98.81% and 99.62% for the ECG-ID, MIT-BIH and NSR-DB datasets, respectively. At the same time, 98.24% is achieved when combining all of these datasets. This research also compares conventional feature extraction, deep learning-based feature extraction and a combination of these for performance enhancement, compared to transfer learning approaches such as VGG-19, ResNet-152 and Inception-v3 with a small segment of ECG data.

During the last decade, substantial resources have been invested to exploit massive amounts of boreholes data collected through groundwater extraction. Furthermore, boreholes depth can be considered one of the crucial factors in digging borehole efficiency. Therefore, a new solution is needed to process and analyze boreholes data to monitor digging operations and identify the boreholes shortcomings. This research study presents a boreholes data analysis architecture based on data and predictive analysis models to improve borehole efficiency, underground safety verification, and risk evaluation. The proposed architecture aims to process and analyze borehole data based on different hydrogeological characteristics using data and predictive analytics to enhance underground safety verification and planning of borehole resources. The proposed architecture is developed based on two modules; descriptive data analysis and predictive analysis modules. The descriptive analysis aims to utilize data and clustering analysis techniques to process and extract hidden hydrogeological characteristics from borehole history data. The predictive analysis aims to develop a bi-directional long short-term memory (BD-LSTM) to predict the boreholes depth to minimize the cost and time of the digging operations. Furthermore, different performance measures are utilized to evaluate the performance of the proposed clustering and regression models. Moreover, our proposed BD-LSTM model is evaluated and compared with conventional machine learning (ML) regression models. The $R^{2}$ score of the proposed BD-LSTM is 0.989, which indicates that the proposed model accurately and precisely predicts boreholes depth compared to the conventional regression models. The experimental and comparative analysis results reveal the significance and effectiveness of the proposed borehole data analysis architecture. The experimental results will improve underground safety management and the efficiency of boreholes for future wells.

Recently groundwater scarcity has accelerated drilling operations worldwide as drilled boreholes are substantial for replenishing the needs of safe drinking water and achieving long-term sustainable development goals. However, the quest for achieving optimal drilling efficiency is ever continued. This paper aims to provide valuable insights into borehole drilling data utilizing the potential of advanced analytics by employing several enhanced cluster analysis techniques to propel drilling efficiency optimization and knowledge discovery. The study proposed an L2-weighted K-mean clustering algorithm in which the mean is computed from transformed weighted feature space. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed L2-weighted K-mean algorithm, we performed a comparative analysis of the proposed work with traditional clustering algorithms to estimate the digging time and depth for different soil materials and land layers. The proposed clustering scheme is evaluated widely used evaluation metrics such as Dunn Index, Davies–Bouldin index (DBI), Silhouette coefficient (SC), and Calinski–Harabaz Index (CHI). The study results highlight the significance of the proposed clustering algorithm as it achieved better clustering results than conventional clustering approaches. Moreover, for facilitation of subsequent learning, achievement of reliable classification, and generalization, we performed feature extraction based on the time interval of the drilling process according to soil material and land layer. We formulated the solution by grouping the extracted features into six different blocks to achieve our desired objective. Each block corresponds to various characteristics of soil materials and land layers. Extracted features are examined and visualized in point cloud space to analyze the water level patterns, depth, and days required to complete the drilling operations.

Drilling data for groundwater extraction incur changes over time due to variations in hydrogeological and weather conditions. At any time, if there is a need to deploy a change in drilling operations, drilling companies keep monitoring the time-series drilling data to make sure it is not introducing any changes or new errors. Therefore, a solution is needed to predict groundwater levels (GWL) and detect a change in boreholes data to improve drilling efficiency. The proposed study presents an ensemble GWL prediction (E-GWLP) model using boosting and bagging models based on stacking techniques to predict GWL for enhancing hydraulic resource management and planning. The proposed research study consists of two modules; descriptive analysis of boreholes data and GWL prediction model using ensemble model based on stacking. First, descriptive analysis techniques, such as correlation analysis and difference mechanisms, are applied to investigate boreholes log data for extracting underlying characteristics, which is critical for enhancing hydraulic resource management. Second, an ensemble prediction model is developed based on multiple hydrological patterns using robust machine learning (ML) techniques to predict GWL for enhancing drilling efficiency and water resource management. The architecture of the proposed ensemble model involves three boosting algorithms as base models (level-0) and a bagging algorithm as a meta-model that combines the base models predictions (level-1). The base models consist of the following boosting algorithms; eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), AdaBoost, Gradient Boosting (GB). The meta-model includes Random Forest (RF) as a bagging algorithm referred to as a level-1 model. Furthermore, different evaluation metrics are used, including mean absolute error (MAE), mean square error (MSE), and root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and R2 score. The performance of the proposed E-GWLP model is compared with existing ensemble and baseline models. The experimental results reveal that the proposed model performed accurately in respect of MAE, MSE, and RMSE of 0.340, 0.564, and 0.751, respectively. The MAPE and R2 score of our proposed approach is 12.658 and 0.976, respectively, which signifies the importance of our work. Moreover, experimental results suggest that E-GWLP model is suitable for sustainable water resource management and improves reservoir engineering.

Water is an essential source of life for every living thing, and drilling is the only source to gain water from underground. Different advanced technologies have been used to minimize the time factor and labor force. Along with technology to be used, some other factors are equally essential to be considered, like water level, the hardness level of the land, and the number of days spent on the whole process. The study proposed a weighted voting classifier based on Differential Evaluation (DE) to classify the regions with different soil colors and land layers. The weights are assigned to the candidate classifiers based on their performance for each class. For the assignment of the optimal weight, the DE optimization algorithm is used. Moreover, the study presents a chained multi-objective regression model to simultaneously predict the water level and total depth on different locations. The proposed work facilitates the drilling industry to increase the rate of penetration (ROP) by selecting the region with soft soil and land layer. The prediction of depth and water level allows the industry to estimate water levels in different areas at different depths. The dataset is provided by the research organization, which contains information of different drilling points. The results of the proposed weighted voting classifier are compared with the traditional machine learning models (kernel Naive Bayes, Gaussian SVM, Quadratic SVM, and Bilayered Neural network) and state of the art voting classifier in terms of precision, recall, and accuracy. Moreover, the proposed regression model is evaluated by well-known evaluation metrics, including Mean Absolute Error, Mean Square Error, and R2 score. Finally, the comparison verifies the effectiveness of the enhanced optimization-based classifier and multi-objective regressor.

With the increase in users of social media websites such as IMDb, a movie website, and the rise of publicly available data, opinion mining is more accessible than ever. In the research field of language understanding, categorization of movie reviews can be challenging because human language is complex, leading to scenarios where connotation words exist. Connotation words have a different meaning than their literal meanings. While representing a word, the context in which the word is used changes the semantics of words. In this research work, categorizing movie reviews with good F-Measure scores has been investigated with Word2Vec and three different aspects of proposed features have been inspected. First, psychological features are extracted from reviews positive emotion, negative emotion, anger, sadness, clout (confidence level) and dictionary words. Second, readablility features are extracted; the Automated Readability Index (ARI), the Coleman Liau Index (CLI) and Word Count (WC) are calculated to measure the review’s understandability score and their impact on review classification performance is measured. Lastly, linguistic features are also extracted from reviews adjectives and adverbs. The Word2Vec model is trained on collecting 50,000 reviews related to movies. A self-trained Word2Vec model is used for the contextualized embedding of words into vectors with 50, 100, 150 and 300 dimensions.The pretrained Word2Vec model converts words into vectors with 150 and 300 dimensions. Traditional and advanced machine-learning (ML) algorithms are applied and evaluated according to performance measures: accuracy, precision, recall and F-Measure. The results indicate Support Vector Machine (SVM) using self-trained Word2Vec achieved 86% F-Measure and using psychological, linguistic and readability features with concatenation of Word2Vec features SVM achieved 87.93% F-Measure.

It is an undeniable fact that people excessively rely on social media for effective communication. However, there is no appropriate barrier as to who becomes a part of the communication. Therefore, unknown people ruin the fundamental purpose of effective communication with irrelevant—and sometimes aggressive—messages. As its popularity increases, its impact on society also increases, from primarily being positive to negative. Cyber aggression is a negative impact; it is defined as the willful use of information technology to harm, threaten, slander, defame, or harass another person. With increasing volumes of cyber-aggressive messages, tweets, and retweets, there is a rising demand for automated filters to identify and remove these unwanted messages. However, most existing methods only consider NLP-based feature extractors, e.g., TF-IDF, Word2Vec, with a lack of consideration for emotional features, which makes these less effective for cyber aggression detection. In this work, we extracted eight novel emotional features and used a newly designed deep neural network with only three numbers of layers to identify aggressive statements. The proposed DNN model was tested on the Cyber-Troll dataset. The combination of word embedding and eight different emotional features were fed into the DNN for significant improvement in recognition while keeping the DNN design simple and computationally less demanding. When compared with the state-of-the-art models, our proposed model achieves an F1 score of 97%, surpassing the competitors by a significant margin.

The spreading of accidental or malicious misinformation on social media, specifically in critical situations, such as real-world emergencies, can have negative consequences for society. This facilitates the spread of rumors on social media. On social media, users share and exchange the latest information with many readers, including a large volume of new information every second. However, updated news sharing on social media is not always true.In this study, we focus on the challenges of numerous breaking-news rumors propagating on social media networks rather than long-lasting rumors. We propose new social-based and content-based features to detect rumors on social media networks. Furthermore, our findings show that our proposed features are more helpful in classifying rumors compared with state-of-the-art baseline features. Moreover, we apply bidirectional LSTM-RNN on text for rumor prediction. This model is simple but effective for rumor detection. The majority of early rumor detection research focuses on long-running rumors and assumes that rumors are always false. In contrast, our experiments on rumor detection are conducted on real-world scenario data set. The results of the experiments demonstrate that our proposed features and different machine learning models perform best when compared to the state-of-the-art baseline features and classifier in terms of precision, recall, and F1 measures.

The generalization error of conventional support vector machine (SVM) depends on the ratio of two factors; radius and margin. The traditional SVM aims to maximize margin but ignore minimization of radius, which decreases the overall performance of the SVM classifier. However, different approaches are developed to achieve a trade-off between the margin and radius. Still, the computational cost of all these approaches is high due to the requirements of matrix transformation. Furthermore, a conventional SVM tries to set the best hyperplane between classes, and due to some robust kernel tricks, an SVM is used in many non-linear and complex problems. The configuration of the best hyperplane between classes is not effective; therefore, it is required to bind a class within its limited area to enhance the performance of the SVM classifier. The area enclosed by a class is called its Minimum Enclosing Ball (MEB), and it is one of the emerging problems of SVM. Therefore, a robust solution is needed to improve the performance of the conventional SVM to overcome the highlighted issues. In this research study, a novel weighted radius SVM (WR-SVM) is proposed to determine the tighter bounds of MEB. The proposed solution uses a weighted mean to find tighter bounds of radius, due to which the size of MEB decreases. Experiments are conducted on nine different benchmark datasets and one synthetic dataset to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model. The experimental results reveal that the proposed WR-SVM significantly performed well compared to the conventional SVM classifier. Furthermore, experimental results are compared with F-SVM and traditional SVM in terms of classification accuracy to demonstrate the significance of the proposed WR-SVM.

Due to the availability of smart metering infrastructure, high-resolution electric consumption data is readily available to study the dynamics of residential electric consumption at finely resolved spatial and temporal scales. Analyzing the electric consumption data enables the policymakers and building owners to understand consumer’s demand-consumption behaviors. Furthermore, analysis and accurate forecasting of electric consumption are substantial for consumer involvement in time-of-use tariffs, critical peak pricing, and consumer-specific demand response initiatives. Alongside its vast economic and sustainability implications, such as energy wastage and decarbonization of the energy sector, accurate consumption forecasting facilitates power system planning and stable grid operations. Energy consumption forecasting is an active research area; despite the abundance of devised models, electric consumption forecasting in residential buildings remains challenging due to high occupant energy use behavior variability. Hence the search for an appropriate model for accurate electric consumption forecasting is ever continuing. To this aim, this paper presents a spatial and temporal ensemble forecasting model for short-term electric consumption forecasting. The proposed work involves exploring electric consumption profiles at the apartment level through cluster analysis based on the k-means algorithm. The ensemble forecasting model consists of two deep learning models; Long Short-Term Memory Unit (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU). First, the apartment-level historical electric consumption data is clustered. Later the clusters are aggregated based on consumption profiles of consumers. At the building and floor level, the ensemble models are trained using aggregated electric consumption data. The proposed ensemble model forecasts the electric consumption at three spatial scales apartment, building, and floor level for hourly, daily, and weekly forecasting horizon. Furthermore, the impact of spatial-temporal granularity and cluster analysis on the prediction accuracy is analyzed. The dataset used in this study comprises high-resolution electric consumption data acquired through smart meters recorded on an hourly basis over the period of one year. The consumption data belongs to four multifamily residential buildings situated in an urban area of South Korea. To prove the effectiveness of our proposed forecasting model, we compared our model with widely known machine learning models and deep learning variants. The results achieved by our proposed ensemble scheme verify that model has learned the sequential behavior of electric consumption by producing superior performance with the lowest MAPE of 4.182 and 4.54 at building and floor level prediction, respectively. The experimental findings suggest that the model has efficiently captured the dynamic electric consumption characteristics to exploit ensemble model diversities and achieved lower forecasting error. The proposed ensemble forecasting scheme is well suited for predictive modeling and short-term load forecasting.
