Objective: To culturally adapt and validate the Italian version of the Shoulder Instability—Return to Sport after Injury (SI-RSI-I) scale. Methods: The SI-RSI-I was developed by adapting the Anterior Cruciate Ligament—Return to Sport Index—Italian version and replacing the term "knee" with "shoulder." Subsequently, it underwent validation following COSMIN recommendations. The study involved athletic participants who experienced SI. They completed the SI-RSI-I together with other measurement instruments: Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index, Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic Score, EuroQol-5D-5L, and Numeric Pain Rating Scale. The following psychometric properties were investigated: structural validity, internal consistency, test–retest reliability, measurement error, and construct validity. Results: The study included 101 participants (age mean [SD] 28.5 [7.4] y; 83 males, 18 females). The SI-RSI-I showed a single-factor structure, excellent internal consistency (α =.935), and excellent test–retest reliability (ICC =.926; 95% CI,.853–.964). The standard error of measurement was 6.1 points, and the minimal detectable change was 17.0 points. Furthermore, SI-RSI-I demonstrated moderate to strong correlations with all reference scales, confirming 8 out of 9 (88.0%) hypotheses, thus establishing satisfactory construct validity. Conclusion: The SI-RSI-I has demonstrated robust internal consistency, reliability, validity, and feasibility as a valuable scale for assessing psychological readiness to return to sport in Italian athletes with SI. In this paper, I argue that there are a number of ethical issues facing college and professional athletes that admit of a unified treatment: viewing athletes as workers. By worker, I mean an agent who sells their labor for compensation. With this notion of worker in place, I present and discuss arguments for four claims: not paying college athletes is morally wrong; that the N.C.A.A. infringes on the right of college athletes to collectively bargain; that it is prima facie wrong to draft and trade professional athletes; and that fans fail to respect athletes' right to strike when they complain about labor stoppages in professional leagues. I argue that sports fans and members of sports media should explicitly conceive of athletes as workers to recognize and prevent these wrongs. I conclude by suggesting that all with an interest in the welfare of labor have an interest in conceiving of athletes as workers, as it puts what is owed to all workers into stark relief. Background: Several studies have revealed the positive healthy impacts of branched-chain fatty acids (BCFAs). However, most of these studies evaluated the serum BCFAs in humans, or treatment with exogenous BCFAs in animal or in-vitro models and the health impacts of dietary BCFAs have not yet been studied. Due to positive effects of BCFAs in sport, in the current study, we aimed to investigate the association between dietary BCFAs and metabolic and inflammatory parameters among elite and subelite soccer players. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 335 elite and subelite soccer players (196 male), aged between 20 and 45 years old. Soccer players were enrolled from 32 teams under the directive of The Chinese Football Association. Demographic, anthropometric, and dietary assessments were performed and laboratory measurement including serum lipids, glycemic markers, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein was measured. Results: Those with the highest dietary BCFAs consumption had higher appetite (p =.009). Also, high consumption of dietary BCFAs was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure (odds ratio: 0.958; confidence interval: 0.918–0.999; p =.046) and low high-sensitivity C-reactive protein concentrations in the third tertile of dietary BCFAs (odds ratio: 0.431; confidence interval: 0.300–0.618; p <.001). No other association between biochemical variables and dietary BCFAs was found. Conclusion: As shown in the current study, higher dietary BCFAs consumption was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure and inflammation. The decision of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne to replace horse riding with Obstacle after the 2024 Olympic Games challenges training, testing, and recovery management in Modern Pentathlon. This commentary discusses physiological, technical, and tactical effects of rule changes in the 5 disciplines with a specific focus on the new discipline Obstacle. Modern Pentathlon requires athletes to develop specific endurance capacities relying on both the aerobic and anaerobic systems while simultaneously increasing lower- and upper-body strength capabilities. In addition, movements must be repeatedly executed in an explosive and precise manner. Running and swimming must be fast but economical. Swapping from horse riding to Obstacle will prioritize the explosive strength of the upper extremities and core while keeping high levels of endurance and precision in swimming, fencing, and shooting. Moreover, condensing the Modern Pentathlon competition to a 90-minute television-friendly format enables more competitions in the future. Athletes and coaches will thus also need to develop and maintain effective individual peri-exercise routines (before, during, and after the competition) to successfully meet the resulting tactical and physical challenges of the new format. This commentary aims to stimulate the discussion on the effect of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne's decisions to replace riding with the new Obstacle discipline and implement a more television-friendly format with a focus on physiological, technical, and tactical aspects. We examined the sweat characteristics and fluid balance of elite female field hockey players during two heat training camps. Fourteen elite female field hockey players from the Australian national squad participated in two heat training camps held ∼6 months apart, following winter- (Camp 1) and summer-based training (Camp 2). Daily waking body mass (BM) and urine specific gravity (USG) were collected, along with several markers of sweat and fluid balance across two matches per camp. There was a 19% mean reduction in estimated whole-body sweat sodium concentration from Camp 1 (45.8 ± 6.5 mmol/L) to Camp 2 (37.0 ± 5.0 mmol/L; p <.001). Waking urine specific gravity ≥ 1.020 was observed in 31% of samples, with no significant differences in mean urine specific gravity or BM between camps (p >.05), but with substantial interindividual variation. Intramatch sweat rates were high (1.2–1.8 L/hr), with greater BM losses in Camp 1 (p =.030), resulting in fewer players losing ≥2% BM in Camp 2 (0%–8%), as compared with Camp 1 (36%–43%; p =.017). Our field data suggest that elite female field hockey players experience substantial sweat losses during competition in the heat regardless of the season. In agreement with previous findings, we observed substantial interindividual variation in sweat and hydration indices, supporting the use of individualized athlete hydration strategies. Purpose: The potential impact of hormonal contraceptives (HCs) on player health and performance in women's rugby union (rugby) is not well understood, despite rugby's growing popularity worldwide. This study investigated the prevalence of HC use and reported associations with training and performance in a global sample of women rugby players. Method: A globally distributed online survey, seeking to explore experiences in women's rugby, was completed by 1596 current or former adult women 7s or 15s rugby players (mean age 27 [6] y; 7 [5] y playing experience) from 62 countries. The survey included a section of questions about reported HC use, including the type, reason for use, symptoms, and experiences relating to rugby training and performance. Results: A total of 606 (38%) participants from 33 of the 62 (53%) countries reported using HCs, with the combined oral contraceptive pill reported as the most frequently used (44%). Almost half of participants using HCs (43%) tracked HC-related symptoms. Over 10% reported altered rugby performance due to HC-related symptoms, 22% required medication to manage symptoms, and 11% used HCs to control or stop their menstrual periods for rugby training and performance. Conclusions: The current study highlights the prevalence of HC use in women's rugby, identifying practices that may negatively affect performance, health, and well-being. Thus, there is an urgent need to better understand the motivations for such practices and knowledge of potential side effects among women rugby players across all levels and countries. The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the legal status of athletes as subjects of labor law. It is noted that at the current stage of development, the role of physical culture and sports in Ukraine is growing significantly and is one of the priority directions of the state's social policy, an important tool in the implementation of its tasks, the state is interested in the proper development of legal relations in the field of sports. At the same time, researching the issue of the legal status of an athlete as a subject of professional sports legal relations, analyzing the legislation that regulates activities in the field of physical culture and sports, it was concluded that very little attention is paid to it. Regarding the research of this issue by scientists, their points of view differ, in particular, some are convinced that the legal regulation of the legal status of a professional athlete should be carried out in accordance with civil legislation, others - according to labor legislation, some generally emphasize the dual nature of the peculiarities of the legal status of a professional athlete in Ukraine. The author of the article concluded that the regulation of the sports activities of professional athletes should be regulated by the norms of labor legislation, if they concluded an employment contract on receiving remuneration for systematic special sports and training preparation for participation in sports competitions, participation in them and the results shown, and accordingly are sub objects of labor law. That is, a professional athlete has the right to have his sporting activities take place within the framework of labor relations, therefore, prohibiting him from exercising this right means violating the provisions of the Basic Law of the country, since the right to choose the form of using one's abilities is established in relation to any profession and type of activity. At the same time, the activities of not all sportsmen should be regulated by the norms of labor legislation, but only those with whom an employment contract is concluded, or relations with which, despite their official registration as civil law, have all the signs of employment. This study was aimed at assessing the effects of a 6‐week intervention within a training environment that uses special lighting conditions targeted to slow down the visual processing speed of visual and visuomotor performance in professional soccer players. Twenty‐four soccer players (age = 21.8 ± 4.8 years, 50% women) from the under 18 and under 23 men's teams, and 1st Women's team of the Sunderland Association Football Club participated in this study. Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups, with the intervention group performing 2‐weekly 30‐min sessions of specific soccer tasks with specific lighting conditions using the Okkulo system (Okkulo™, okkulo.com), whereas the control group performed the same training under normal lighting conditions. The intervention group showed significant improvements in dynamic visual acuity (p < 0.001), recognition time (p = 0.002), sensory reaction time (p < 0.001), motor reaction time (p = 0.002) and peripheral identification accuracy (p < 0.001), whereas no significant effects were obtained for stereopsis (p = 0.05), peripheral identification speed (p = 0.17) and anticipation (p = 0.22). In conclusion, a 6‐week training intervention using the Okkulo system improved several visual and visuomotor skills in professional soccer players. Sports anxiety is an important obstacle for athletes' performance, negatively affecting their life satisfaction levels. Positive thinking skills can contribute to overcoming such negative conditions. This study explored the relationships between sport anxiety, positive thinking skills, and life satisfaction in male athletes. A total of 338 male athletes participated voluntarily, using convenience sampling. The study employed a relational survey model, and data were collected through the Sports Anxiety Scale-2, Positive Thinking Skills Scale, and Life Satisfaction Scale. Analyses, including Pearson's correlation, were performed using the JAMOVI program, with mediation analysis verified through bootstrapping. Results indicated a negative correlation between sport anxiety and life satisfaction, and a positive correlation between positive thinking skills and life satisfaction. Moreover, positive thinking skills were found to moderate the relationship between sport anxiety and life satisfaction. These insights underscore the value of developing positive thinking skills to help athletes reduce anxiety and enhance their life satisfaction. Background: Despite the high prevalence of disordered eating and eating disorders amongst elite athletes, it remains unclear whether risk factors and psychological processes align with those in the general population or if there are unique sport-factors associated with heightened risk. This cross-sectional study investigated if sport-specific factors (including pressures and psychological processes) explained additional variance in elite athletes' disordered eating symptoms, controlling for established population-general risk factors. Current elite athletes (N = 178, 72.4% female, mean age = 23.9, standard deviation age = 7.0) completed online surveys assessing disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, perfectionistic traits, population-general and sport-specific pressures, as well as general (thin-ideal, muscular-ideal) and athlete-specific (drive for leanness for performance, athletic identity) psychological processes. Results: Disordered eating was highly prevalent, with 78.2% of athletes reporting at least moderate risk, 46.4% at least high risk, and 20.6% very high risk. Controlling for demographic covariates and population-general pressures, sport-specific pressures explained significant additional variance (13.5%) in disordered eating. Even when controlling for perfectionistic traits, greater weight pressures in sport (β =.35) was uniquely associated with greater disordered eating. In a separate multivariate analysis controlling for covariates and general psychological processes, athlete-specific psychologicalprocesses explained significant additional variance (15.5%) in disordered eating. Even when controlling for body dissatisfaction, greater drive for leanness for performance (β =.17) and athletic identity (β =.13) were uniquely associated with greater disordered eating. Conclusions: These findings support evidence that elite athletes may experience dual pressures and psychological processes associated with disordered eating: those congruent with appearance-oriented models and others independent of appearance. This duality should be considered in the modification of interventions for disordered eating in elite athletes. Key points: Disordered eating was highly prevalent in a sample of 178 elite adult athletes, with 78.2% reporting at least moderate risk for having related symptoms or behaviours. In the context of competitive sports, the evaluation of compensation incentive effectiveness is key to the optimization of compensation systems for athletes. This study creates a model of the athlete compensation incentive effect from single and multinomial grouping perspectives, combining empirical research (SEM) with fuzzyset qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) based on a sample of 352 validated data. The results lead to two findings. First, athletes' direct economic compensation, direct non-economic compensation, and indirect non-economic compensation have a significant positive effect on the incentive effect of compensation. Second, that the incentive effect of high compensation has two configurations, namely "economic value" and "economic environmental value." Total testosterone (TT) and free testosterone (FT) are important biochemical markers for anabolism of the human body, and can also serve as early screening indicators for overtraining syndrome (OTS). Presently, there is no fast and reliable serum TT and FT determination method in the field of sport science that can meet the requirements of sports research. Thus, a rapid and accurate determination method for serum TT and FT to fill the gap is needed urgently in sports training. Herein, a simple and reliable liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of TT and FT in serum was developed and fully validated, followed by the application of professional athletes in training monitoring. Efficient pretreatments based on only one-step liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) for TT and one-step LLE after a 20 min ultrafiltration for FT were adopted in this study, and the isotope internal standard of testosterone-13C3 was used to ensure the reliability of the whole procedure. A linear range of four orders of magnitude with 0.02–100 ng/mL can meet the concentration range requirement between a higher limit for male TT and a lower limit for female FT. The accuracy, precision, stability, and matrix effect were all within the limits of the guidelines. The serum TT and FT levels of 200 professional athletes (98 male athletes and 102 female athletes) were investigated by this method. Serum TT, FT, and FT/TT levels of professional athletes were significantly higher than the general population, and serum TT levels were significantly higher by LC-MS/MS than by a chemiluminescence immunoassay. In conclusion, the LC-MS/MS method for TT and FT measurement developed in this study is time-saving and easy to operate, which can be used as a reliable method for the determination of serum TT and FT in sports training, offering valuable information for monitoring anabolism of athletes and screening OTS in the early stage. This narrative review examines the relationship between dopamine-related genetic polymorphisms, personality traits, and athletic success. Advances in sports genetics have identified specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in dopamine-related genes linked to personality traits crucial for athletic performance, such as motivation, cognitive function, and emotional resilience. This review clarifies how genetic variations can influence athletic predisposition through dopaminergic pathways and environmental interactions. Key findings reveal associations between specific SNPs and enhanced performance in various sports. For example, polymorphisms such as COMT Val158Met rs4680 and BDNF Val66Met rs6265 are associated with traits that could benefit performance, such as increased focus, stress resilience and conscientiousness, especially in martial arts. DRD3 rs167771 is associated with higher agreeableness, benefiting teamwork in sports like football. This synthesis underscores the multidimensional role of genetics in shaping athletic ability and advocates for integrating genetic profiling into personalized training to optimize performance and well-being. However, research gaps remain, including the need for standardized training protocols and exploring gene–environment interactions in diverse populations. Future studies should focus on how genetic and epigenetic factors can inform tailored interventions to enhance both physical and psychological aspects of athletic performance. Sports cardiology is an evolving field in cardiology, with several topics remaining controversial. Beyond the several well-known benefits of regular exercise practice, the occurrence of adverse clinical events during sports in apparently healthy individuals, especially sudden cardiac death, and the described long-term adverse cardiac adaptations associated to high volume of exercise, remain challenging. The early identification of athletes with increased risk is critical, but the most appropriate preparticipation screening protocols are also debatable and a more personalized evaluation, considering individual and sports-related characteristics, will potentially optimize this evaluation. As the risk of major clinical events during sports is not zero, independently of previous evaluation, ensuring the capacity for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, especially with availability of automated external defibrillators, in sports arenas, is crucial for its prevention and to improve outcomes. As in other areas of medicine, application of new digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, is promising and could improve in near future several aspects of sports cardiology. This paper aims to review the methodology of athletes' preparticipation screening, emphasizing current controversies and future challenges, in order to improve early diagnosis of conditions associated with sudden cardiac death. Sport governing bodies, such as the International Olympic Committee, have recommended youth sport organizations develop policies, procedures, and/or ethical guidelines to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and abuse (SHA) experienced by young athletes. To our knowledge, no studies have investigated SHA policies or procedures in U.S. youth sport programs. The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine U.S. youth sport programs' policies regarding SHA. The results are based on a cross-sectional survey completed by youth sport coaches (n = 200) from various organizations (e.g., public recreation organizations, private nonprofit organizations, and interscholastic sports). Findings suggest that most organizations have several SHA policies, such as education and training requirements, written policies and codes of conduct regarding coach-athlete sexual relationships, and formal complaint and disclosure procedures for investigating SHA. A bivariate analysis suggests that the presence of several SHA policies was associated with an increased number of self-reported SHA incidents. Moreover, youth sport programs located in urban areas had a greater extent of SHA policies compared to those located in suburban or rural areas. These results are discussed with respect to the potential relationships between the presence of policies and increased cases of SHA. Also, we discussed advocating for equitable resources among youth sport programs regardless of geographic and/or demographic factors. Future research should identify social and cultural barriers that inhibit the successful implementation of SHA policies. While developing and implementing SHA policies is a step in the right direction, it may not be used as the only means to address this complex, systematic, and structural issue. OBJECTIVES: To (1) summarize pooled prevalence and incidence rates of concussion by type of sport and (2) synthesize the differences in prevalence or incidence rates of concussion by type of sports in terms of sex, age, type of session, and level of competition. t DESIGN: An overview of systematic reviews with meta-analysis. LITERATURE SEARCH: CINAHL, Embase, Epis-temonikos, PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched. STUDY SELECTION CRITERIA: Systematic reviews with meta-analyses reporting pooled incidence or prevalence of sport-related concussion. DATA SYNTHESIS: AMSTAR 2 was used to assess the methodological quality of reviews. Overlap between reviews was calculated. RESULTS: Ten systematic reviews with metaanalysis were included, all evaluating incidence rates of concussion. There were no meta-analyses of concussion prevalence. Concussions seem to have a higher incidence in rugby, snowboarding, ice hockey, and American football. In reviews that explored sex-based differences across subgroups, there was a higher incidence rate of concussion in baseball-softball, basketball, and soccer in females compared to males. There were no age subgroups analyzed. The incidence of concussions was higher during games compared to practice in American football, ice hockey, rugby, and soccer. Amateur rugby had higher concussion rates compared to professional rugby. CONCLUSIONS: Rugby, snowboarding, ice hockey, and American football had the highest incidence rate of concussion when no other differences (eg, type of session) were considered. However, important methodological flaws were detected, such as the lack of use of the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system and subgroups for specific factors (eg, age groups). Background: Caffeine is widely recognized as an ergogenic aid to enhance athletic performance, yet its effects in hot environments remain relatively underexplored. Aims: To provide a comprehensive overview of the research landscape and identify research themes in this field. Methods: We systematically searched the Web of Science (WoS) and SCOPUS databases using keywords related to caffeine (e.g., caffe*), hot environments (e.g., heat, hot, or therm*), and athletic performance (e.g., cardio, endurance, or strength). The Bibliometrix package in R was used for bibliometric analysis and result visualization, while a narrative review was subsequently performed to identify research themes. Results: We found that studies examining the impact of caffeine on exercise in hot conditions are relatively sparse and have progressed slowly in recent years. Research in this domain has predominantly been concentrated within an academic network led by Professor Lawrence Armstrong. Recent contributions have been sporadically made by emerging scholars, with collaborations largely confined to a few research groups and countries. Key research themes identified include exercise performance, thermoregulation, fluid balance, physiological responses, immune responses, synergistic effects with other compounds, and the influence of individual differences. Of these, the first three themes—exercise performance, thermoregulation, and fluid balance—have received the most attention. Conclusions: Caffeine's effects on exercise performance in hot environments have not been thoroughly studied. The existing research themes are varied, and the conclusions show considerable inconsistencies. Our study highlights the need for further research into the effects of caffeine dosage, administration methods, and population-specific variables. ABSTRACT Plants exposed to hypoxic conditions have been suggested to produce more biologically active phytochemicals than those exposed to normal oxygen levels. Previously, we investigated 314 highland crop species and showed that the flavonoid kaempferol extracted from a highland quinoa grain markedly increased mitochondrial metabolism and ATP production in a hypoxic environment in vitro. Thus, we hypothesized that kaempferol would be effective during exercise under harsh conditions, in which anaerobic metabolism occurs. This study adopted a double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, crossover design to investigate the effect of a single oral dose of kaempferol (10 mg) on the athletic performance‐related indicators of 13 male university athletes (20.8 ± 0.7 years) who performed two consecutive 400‐m runs with the shortest 90‐min interval assuming qualifying and main races. Although no significant differences were observed in the 400‐m race times between the placebo and kaempferol groups, kaempferol intake markedly reduced the respiratory and heart rates during the second run (p < 0.05). In addition, kaempferol intake reduced the levels of muscle damage markers, myoglobin, and aspartate transaminase (p < 0.05). A single oral dose of kaempferol reduced the cardiopulmonary burden and muscle damage in individuals participating in 400‐m runs. Background: College athletes are often overlooked for metabolic syndrome (MetS), as their increased physical activity is assumed to reduce their disease risk. However, energy or macronutrient imbalance has been shown to increase risk independent of activity. The purpose of this investigation was to assess the current dietary habits of Division III female athletes and determine their associations with body composition and MetS. Secondly, we sought to determine whether dietary intake and dietary protein source (i.e., animal- and plant-based, ABP and PBP) and quality were associated with MetS, as estimated by the Simple Method for Quantifying Metabolic Syndrome (siMS) score and the siMS risk score, and whether protein pacing was associated with body composition in Division III female athletes. Methods: Stepwise linear regression determined whether age (years), body mass (kg), body mass index (BMI; kg/m2), ABP (g/d), PBP (g/d), ABP:PBP, ratio of high-quality to low-quality ABP (ABP QR), relative energy intake (kcal/kg/d), and relative protein, carbohydrate, and fat intake (g/kg/d) were predictors of siMS score and siMS risk score. Results: Twenty-five athletes (19.6 ± 1.3 years; 65.9 ± 7.0 kg; 23.5 ± 2.0 kg/m2; ABP 71.7 ± 28.2 g/d; PBP 30.0 ± 12.2 g/d) were included in the analyses. An inverse relationship was observed between PBP and the siMS score (F1, 22 = 5.498, p = 0.028) and siMS risk score (F1, 22 = 7.614, p = 0.011). The models explained 20% and 26% of the variance in siMS score and siMS risk score, respectively. Conclusions: PBP was associated with lower MetS risk in Division III female athletes, while ABP, regardless of quality, was unrelated. Background: While several validated sports nutrition knowledge questionnaires exist, none are specifically designed to assess the sports nutrition knowledge (SNK) of Sri Lankan track and field athletes. This study aims to validate the Sri Lankan Sports Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire (SLn-SNKQ), tailored for this athlete group, to provide more accurate and meaningful insights for research and practice. This will enable health professionals and coaches to confidently assess athletes' nutrition knowledge, which directly influences their food choices. Methods: The validity of the questionnaire was established through a multi-step approach. Content validity was achieved via ratings from nutrition experts, all of whom had specialized training in human nutrition and experience of working with athletes. Face validity was evaluated through in-depth telephone interviews with elite or highly trained athletes, using a retrospective think-out-loud protocol to gather feedback on the clarity and relevance of the questions. Construct validity involved nutrition-trained doctors (NTG), non-nutrition-trained professionals (NNTG), and elite-level athletes' groups (AG). Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest reliability was evaluated. Results: The final tool comprised 123 individual statements or prompts (items) that were organized into 32 broader questions, spanning 12 sub-sections. Content validity was confirmed by fully integrating 49 out of 70 comments and partially integrating four comments received from nutrition experts for each sub-section. Face validity was established by fully integrating 33 out of 40 comments received from 16 elite and highly trained athletes. Construct validity was confirmed, indicating significant differences in the total scores achieved as a percentage of the SLn-SNKQ among the NTG (462.5, 92.5%), NNTG (223.5, 44.7%), and AG (235, 47.0%; p < 0.001). Reproducibility was established by strong test-retest reliability between individuals' scores on two test attempts, three weeks apart (spearman's correlation; ρ = 0.99, p < 0.05). Internal reliability for each sub-section met psychometric reliability requirements (Cronbach's α > 0.7). Conclusions: The SLn-SNKQ has been validated and demonstrates robust psychometric properties, offering a reliable tool for assessing SNK among Sri Lankan track and field athletes. Introduction: Prolonged and repeated exercise performed during an ultraendurance event can induce general and cardiac fatigue known as exerciseinduced cardiac fatigue. Our objective was to find a possible correlation between the cardiac function and the autonomic cardiac function. Methods: During a multistage ultra-endurance event, a female well-trained cyclist underwent daily rest echocardiography and heart rate variability measurements to assess the cardiac function and the cardiac autonomic function. Results: The athlete completed 3,345 km at 65% of her maximum heart rate and 39% of her maximum aerobic power. A progressive improvement of the systolic function for both the left ventricle and the right ventricle was observed during the event. Discussion: Alterations were observed on the cardiac autonomic function with an imbalance between sympathetic and parasympathetic, but there was no sign of a significant correlation between the cardiac function and the autonomic cardiac function and no signs of cardiac fatigue either. Although physical activity is important for the athlete's health and performance, it may also lead to Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) damage, which may have long-term health consequences and affect performance. This article summarizes different types of DNA damage that may occur in athletes, including their potential risk causes, such as mechanical stress, heat stress, and oxidative stress. Furthermore, several mechanisms by which physical activity might lead to DNA damage and affect health and performance are also discussed. Various strategies such as diet and nutrition, antioxidant supplements, cooling strategies, and recovery modalities are also presented to mitigate, prevent, and minimize the potential DNA damage upon physical activities. This article also highlights case studies of athletes who have experienced DNA damage and the effects on their performance and health. In summary, this article offers valuable perspectives on the intricate relationship between physical activity and DNA damage as well as the importance of addressing this issue in the context of athletic performance and health. Case: This case report describes the successful treatment of a year-round teenage softball pitcher who sustained a proximal biceps tendon rupture who underwent successful subpectoral tenodesis. To our knowledge, this is the only reported case of such an injury occurring in an underhand throwing teenage athlete. Conclusion: This case highlights an unusual instance of a sport-related injury in an adolescent softball pitcher, suggesting that the softball pitch in elite athletes may put similar stress on the shoulder to overhead throwing athletes over time and further demonstrating that patients may continue to have success at elite levels of competition after tenodesis. While regular exercise should be part of the contemporary lifestyle, many people overindulge in it to the point of losing control over their behavior. This condition is known as exercise addiction (EA). Although addiction is an individual phenomenon, and most of the over 1,000 published studies on EA look at individual exercisers, there are studies on team sports athletes, too. Theoretically, these athletes should not manifest exercise addiction, but some studies are projecting the contrary. Therefore, in this literature review, we analyze EA in team athletes. Based on four databases (PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar), we located 22 articles conforming to inclusion criteria. These studies suggest a high risk of exercise addiction among team sports participants. While the figures are lower than for individual exercisers, they are in discord with the concept of addiction as a dysfunction, and the lack of a single case of exercise addiction reported (to date) in team sports athletes in the academic literature. Sprint performance is commonly assessed via discrete sprint tests and analyzed through kinematic estimates modeled using a mono-exponential equation, including estimated maximal sprinting speed ( M S S ), relative acceleration ( T A U ), maximum acceleration ( M A C ), and relative propulsive maximal power ( P M A X ). The acceleration–velocity profile (AVP) provides a simple summary of short sprint performance using two parameters: MSS and MAC, which are useful for simplifying descriptions of sprint performance, comparison between athletes and groups of athletes, and estimating changes in performance over time or due to training intervention. However, discrete testing poses logistical challenges and defines an athlete's AVP exclusively from the performance achieved in an isolated testing environment. Recently, an in situ AVP (velocity–acceleration method) was proposed to estimate kinematic parameters from velocity and acceleration data obtained via global or local positioning systems (GPS/LPS) over multiple training sessions, plausibly improving the time efficiency of sprint monitoring and increasing the sample size that defines the athlete's AVP. However, the validity and sensitivity of estimates derived from the velocity–acceleration method in relation to changes in criterion scores remain elusive. To assess the concurrent validity and sensitivity of kinematic measures from the velocity–acceleration method, 31 elite youth basketball athletes (23 males and 8 females) completed two maximal effort 30 m sprint trials. Performance was simultaneously measured by a laser gun and an LPS (Kinexon), with kinematic parameters estimated using the time–velocity and velocity–acceleration methods. Agreement ( % B i a s ) between laser gun and LPS-derived estimates was within the practically significant magnitude ( ± 5%), while confidence intervals for the percentage mean absolute difference ( % M A D ) overlapped practical significance for T A U , M A C , and P M A X using the velocity–acceleration method. Only the M S S parameter showed a sensitivity ( % M D C 95 ) within practical significance (<5%), with all other parameters showing unsatisfactory sensitivity (>10%) for both the time–velocity and velocity–acceleration methods. Thus, sports practitioners may be confident in the concurrent validity and sensitivity of M S S estimates derived in situ using the velocity–acceleration method, while caution should be applied when using this method to infer an athlete's maximal acceleration capabilities. Background: Tug-of-War (TOW) games involve repetitive hand movements and vigorous force, raising the risk of peripheral neuropathy in the upper extremities. The prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in TOW athletes remains unclear. We hypothesize that elite female TOW athletes have a higher prevalence of CTS than the general population. Methods: Twenty-nine female TOW athletes were recruited from a national team and participated in the study. CTS was clinically diagnosed by history taking and physical examination. Nerve conduction studies (NCS) were additionally performed to confirm CTS. Results: Twelve athletes were clinically diagnosed with CTS; however, only nine were confirmed by NCS. Ten athletes were diagnosed with subclinical CTS by NCS, while seven were classified as truly-non-CTS by both clinical assessment and NCS. The prevalence of CTS and subclinical CTS among the athletes was found to be 33.3% and 37.0%, respectively, significantly higher than 2.7% in the general population by electrodiagnosis. The body weight (p = 0.025) of the athletes with CTS and subclinical CTS was significantly different from those of the athletes without CTS. Conclusions: Our observations revealed a higher prevalence of CTS among elite female TOW athletes, with body weight being a risk factor. During pregnancy an increased cardiac output (Q̇$\dot{Q}$) and blood volume (BV) occur to support fetal growth. Increased Q̇$\dot{Q}$ and BV also occur during chronic endurance exercise training and benefit performance. We investigated if sprint interval training (SIT) undertaken early postpartum maintains the elevated Q̇$\dot{Q}$ and BV of pregnancy and benefits performance. The participant, a competitive field hockey player and former cyclist, visited our laboratory at 2 weeks of gestation (baseline) and postpartum pre‐, mid‐ and post‐intervention (PPpre, PPmid and PPpost). Delivery was uncomplicated and she felt ready to start the SIT programme 5 weeks postpartum. Inert gas rebreathing was used to measure peak exercise Q̇$\dot{Q}$ (Q̇$\dot{Q}$peak); V̇O2peak${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{peak}}}}$ was measured with a metabolic cart; and postpartum haematological values were measured with carbon monoxide rebreathing. The 18 SIT sessions progressed from four to eight sprints at 130% of V̇O2peak${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{peak}}}}$ peak power output. Q̇$\dot{Q}$peak increased from baseline at all postpartum time points (baseline 16.2 vs. 17.5, 16.8 and 17.2 L/min at PPpre, PPmid and PPpost, respectively). Relative V̇O2peak${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{peak}}}}$ remained below baseline values at all postpartum measurements (baseline 44.9 vs. 41.0, 42.3 and 42.5 mL/kg/min at PPpre, PPmid and PPpost, respectively) whereas absolute V̇O2peak${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{peak}}}}$ rapidly reached baseline values postpartum (baseline 3.19 vs. 3.12, 3.23 and 3.18 L/min at PPpre, PPmid and PPpost, respectively). Postpartum BV (5257, 4271 and 5214 mL at PPpre, PPmid and PPpost, respectively) and Hbmass (654, 525 and 641 g at PPpre, PPmid and PPpost, respectively) were similar between PPpre and PPpost but decreased alongside Q̇$\dot{Q}$peak at PPmid. Peak power was returned to pre‐pregnancy values by intervention end (302 vs. 303 W, baseline vs. PPpost). These findings show that SIT undertaken early postpartum defends the elevated Q̇$\dot{Q}$peak of pregnancy and rapidly returns absolute V̇O2peak${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{peak}}}}$ and peak power to baseline levels. Quadriceps femoris muscle (QFM) fatigue has a detrimental impact on athlete performance. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate various performance parameters under fatigued conditions. This study aimed to assess the performance of the QFM during both concentric and eccentric contractions before and after fatigue in the lower extremities of healthy amateur soccer players. Twenty-four healthy amateur soccer players performed three consecutive knee extension and flexion movements concentrically and eccentrically at a velocity of 120°/s with maximum effort, using a Biodex dynamometer. Fatigue was induced by a protocol involving repetitive concentric knee extension and flexion movements at 120°/s, with a load of 50% of maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) of the QFM until its moment declined to 50% of MVIC. Separate 2-way analyses of variance were conducted to assess the influence of contraction and fatigue on various isokinetic parameters. No significant interaction effect between contraction and fatigue was observed for any of the parameters. There was a significant main effect of fatigue on average power for both lower extremities. However, no significant main effect of fatigue was observed for normalized peak moment, angle of peak moment, moment at 0.2s, total work, acceleration, and deceleration times. In contrast, significant main effects of contraction were noted for normalized peak moment, moment at 0.2s, average power, acceleration, and deceleration times in both lower extremities. Average power appeared as the most sensitive performance parameter to fatigue. To enhance QFM performance, emphasizing eccentric exercises during training and conditioning programs could be beneficial for athletes. • Isokinetic contractions enable the extraction of multiple performance parameters for evaluating the QFM. • Evaluation across different muscle contractions enhances the understanding of QFM fatigue resistance and functional capacity. • Average power emerged as the most sensitive measure of QFM performance under fatigue, indicating a decline in performance. • Prioritizing intensive exercises to challenge the QFM's eccentric functional capacity may enhance performance. • Eccentric functional capacity appears to be a crucial factor influencing performance under fatiguing conditions. Vibration therapy (VT) has been widely used to increase performance and rehabilitate injuries in athletes. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), caused by excessive overload after training and competitions, leads to loss of performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of wearable local VT on muscle soreness and athletic performance in wheelchair basketball (WCB) players. A non-randomized crossover design was used in this study in which thirteen elite WCB athletes (31.84 ± 12.59 years) participated. A two-week washout period was applied between the measurements of the control and the vibration groups. Muscle soreness, range of motion (ROM), joint position sense, 20-m sprint speed, and shooting percentage were evaluated for all participants pre-exercise, 30 min and 24 h post-exercise for both arms. After eccentric exercise, immediately local wearable VT was applied to both triceps brachii muscles for 10 min in the vibration group. Compared to baseline, there was a significant increase in muscle soreness and a significant decrease in joint position sense, ROM, sprint speed and shooting percentage in both groups 24 h post-exercise (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between the groups for muscle soreness and 20-m sprint speed (p > 0.05). However, there were significant improvements in elbow ROM, elbow joint position sense, and shooting percentage in the VT group (p < 0.05). The local VT may help improve the elbow ROM, elbow joint position sense, and shooting performance but can't contribute to reducing muscle soreness and sprint performance in recovery from exercise. Any sport places great physical demands on the lower limbs and lumbar spine. Sport can lead to nerve entrapment syndromes, making nerve tissue a target for therapeutic intervention. A systematic review of clinical trials and cohort studies using neurodynamics as a method of assessment and treatment in sports patients was conducted. Risk of bias was assessed using the PEDro and NOS scales. Ten studies were eventually included in this study. Age ranged from 18 to 33 years. Neural tension is underappreciated in sport as a risk factor for injury. Treatment of nerve tissue included glide/tension type neural mobilisations. Studies ranged from 3 to 8 sets, 5 to 20 repetitions, with a time of 60 s and 1–6 weeks of treatment. Neurodynamics manoeuvres proves to be most beneficial in increasing range of motion and decreasing perceived muscle tension in the athlete population. A significant effect was also observed in the monopodal jump test, the 6-m jump test and the cross-jump test. There is also limited and scarce evidence on the use of neural testing in sports injuries.Further studies on the application and assessment of neural stress in sport are warranted. • Neural treatment is beneficial in the range of movement and perceived muscle tension. • The treatment of neural tissue has no significant effect on sport performance. • Neural tension tests as a way to diagnose sport injuries have limited evidence. The aim of this study was to investigate the available literature on sporting talent in volleyball, and critically analyse what else has been researched in the area, methodological approaches, knowledge gaps, and encouraging future research. The search strategy was carried out in four electronic databases (PubMed®, Scopus, SPORT Discuss and Web of Science) using the PRISMA-ScR methodology (extension for Scoping Reviews). 78 articles were included for the final analysis. Most studies analysed female athletes (56.4%), in a cross-sectional design (85.9%), with group comparison (60.3%), bivariate analysis (66.7%) and application of test batteries (91%) of anthropometric (62.8%) and physical-motor (56.4%) characteristics. There were few studies that adopted a multidimensional (20.5%) and retrospective/longitudinal approach (11.5%), evaluated psychological skills (7.7%), subjective coach analysis (25.6%), motor coordination (9%), maturation (9%) and sociocultural characteristics (5.1%). Thus, talent identification in volleyball generally uses batteries of tests to discriminate between skill levels, mainly using physical tests (anthropometric and physiological measures), but the evidence for their validity in predicting future performance and discriminating skill levels is limited. Future research should adopt multidimensional and longitudinal approaches, combining objective and subjective indicators of sporting potential of young volleyball athletes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the evaluation of shoulder instability, recognition of relevant pathology on imaging is critical to planning a surgical treatment that minimizes the risk for recurrent instability. Background: Race- and ethnicity-based differences in treatment access and outcomes have been reported in the orthopaedic sports medicine literature. However, the rate at which race and ethnicity are reported and incorporated into the statistical analysis of sports medicine studies remains unclear. Purpose: To determine the rate at which race and ethnicity are reported and analyzed in athlete-specific sports medicine literature. Study Design: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: Using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, articles published by the 3 journals of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine between 2017 and 2021 were considered for inclusion. Original sports medicine research studies that focused on athletes were included. Outcome measures included reporting and analysis of patient demographics (age, sex, race, ethnicity). Studies that included demographic variables in a multivariate analysis or that performed a race-/ethnicity-based stratified analyses were considered to have analyzed that variable. Studies that reported and/or analyzed patient demographics were examined. Chi-square tests were performed to determine statistical significance. Results: A total of 5140 publications were screened, and 842 met the inclusion criteria. Age and sex were well reported (84.1% and 87.0%, respectively), while race (3.8%) and ethnicity (2.0%) were poorly reported. There was no difference in rates of reporting age, sex, race, or ethnicity between the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM), or Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach (Sports Health). The rate of analysis was also calculated as a percentage of the studies that reported that variable. Of the studies that reported age, 38.5% analyzed age. Using this method, 26.2% of studies analyzed sex, 40.6% analyzed race, and 17.6% analyzed ethnicity. Although there was no difference in the overall rate at which studies from the 3 journals analyzed ethnicity, Sports Health studies analyzed age (P =.044), sex (P =.001), and race (P =.027) more frequently than studies published in AJSM and OJSM. Of the studies that analyzed race, most of those studies (8/13, 61.5%) found significant race-based differences in reported outcomes. Conclusion: This systematic review demonstrated that race and ethnicity are poorly reported and analyzed in athlete-specific sports medicine literature, despite the fact that a majority of studies analyzing race found significant differences between racial groups. Improved reporting of race and ethnicity can determine whether race- and ethnicity-based differences exist in patient interventions to ameliorate disparities in patient outcomes. Background: This study examines the structural validity of the Chinese version of the Abbreviated Profile of Mood States (POMS) among Chinese athletes and analyzes potential profiles to provide evidence for its effective use and recommendations for its application. Methods: A total of 340 Chinese athletes completed the Chinese version of the Abbreviated POMS. Initially, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted to identify and verify the extractable dimensions of the Abbreviated POMS. Subsequently, the fit of the six-factor and seven-factor models of POMS was tested directly based on their theoretical structures. Finally, latent profile analysis was used to examine profiles based on the four-factor model derived from the factor analysis, six-factor model, and seven-factor model. Results: The Abbreviated POMS was refined to a four-factor model, consisting of 27 items across four factors: positive mood, anger, fatigue, and confusion. The hypothesized six-factor and seven-factor models did not demonstrate satisfactory fit, suggesting that the seven dimensions function better as independent subscales. Iceberg and inverse iceberg profiles were observed across the four-factor model, six-factor model, and seven-factor model. Conclusion: The Abbreviated POMS does not support its initial hypothesized structure among Chinese athletes. Caution is advised when using the Abbreviated POMS with athletes; it is recommended to use the four-factor model or evaluate each emotion as an independent subscale. MEDLINE (Pubmed), PsycINFO, and SPORTDiscus databases were used, and peer-reviewed academic journal entries fully retrievable from the researcher’s institution library or online were considered for inclusion. Publications were identified according to predetermined eligibility criteria, and 18 publications were included in the review.The results identified many psychosocial factors associated with adaptation to acquired SCI, including self-identity, emotions, coping strategies, sport involvement, social support, narratives, pain, participation, activity, self-efficacy, and sociability.This review highlights the need for innovative methodologies and diverse perspectives and sampling in future investigations. Rehabilitation and sport and performance psychology practitioners working with athletes with acquired SCI are encouraged to gain a better understanding of the narratives framing and constraining athletes’ life stories and rehabilitation experiences and consider using strategies such as narrative ambushing (Frank, 2010) to help athletes develop new ways of thinking about acquired SCI. Background: Supramaximal constant work rate tests (CWR) elicit intense hyperventilation, thus potentially up-shifting ventilation (⩒E)-to-carbon dioxide (CO2) responses when compared to graded exercise tests (GXT) in athletes. We predicted higher ventilatory efficiency on supramaximal CWR using a new method, challenging the classic orthodox interpretation of an increased ⩒E-⩒CO2 as ventilatory inefficiency. This misinterpretation could make difficult to differentiate between physiological hyperventilation from heart disease conditions in athletes. Methods: On different days, a GXT and a CWR at 110% of the maximal velocity achieved in the GXT were performed. Twenty-seven athletes completed the two tests and were compared for usual (linear regression) and log-transformed new variables for ventilatory efficiency through paired t-Student statistics. Results: The ⩒E-⩒CO2 slope (31.4 ± 4.9 vs. 26.2 ± 3.4, p < .001), ⩒E-⩒CO2 intercept (7.2 ± 7.5 vs. 2.8 ± 4.2, p < .007), ⩒E/⩒CO2 nadir (33.0 ± 3.6 vs. 25.4 ± 2.2, p < .001), ⩒CO2-log⩒E slope (10.8 ± 2.9 vs. 6.9 ± 2.2 L*logL−1, p < .001), and η⩒E (36.0 ± 12 vs. 22.8 ± 8.1%, p < .001) values were all significantly higher in the CWR compared to the GXT. We registered a bi-modal nadir response for ⩒E/⩒CO2 on CWR for 22 out of 27 subjects for the first time. A weak association was observed between ⩒E/⩒CO2 nadir (coefficient of determination ~ 27%) and time to exhaustion. Conclusions: The new method allows us to improve the quantification and interpretation of ventilatory efficiency in athletes, avoiding misinterpretation due to the up-shifting elicited by the usual ⩒E-⩒CO2 slope and ⩒E/⩒CO2 nadir indices, which may be confounded with ventilatory inefficiency. Teres major injuries are rare and are generally treated conservatively, except in high-performance athletes. This report describes a case of traumatic rupture of the teres major at its myotendinous junction in a professional gymnast. The patient underwent surgical treatment 10 days after the injury. Six months post-surgery, the patient achieved complete recovery of the range of motion and strength, returning to the pre-injury performance level, guided by physiotherapy rehabilitation. This is the first documented case in the literature of surgical treatment of this injury in a professional gymnast. The main lesson from this case is that early surgical repair in elite athletes can result in excellent functional outcomes and allow return to sport at the pre-injury performance level. The purpose of this study was to classify force-time metrics into distinct lower-body strength domains using a systematic data reduction analysis. A cross-sectional design was used, whereby competitive field sport athletes (F = 39, M = 96) completed a series of drop jumps, squat jumps, countermovement jumps (CMJs), loaded CMJs, and 2 isometric tasks on portable force platforms, resulting in a total of 285 force-time performance metrics. The metrics were split into 4 test "families" and each was entered into a sparse principal component analysis (sPCA) model. A single metric from each component of each family-specific sPCA were selected based on the loading, reliability, and simplicity of the metric and entered into a second sPCA that included metrics across all tests. The final sPCA revealed 7 principal components each containing 2 metrics and explained a total of 53% variance of the dataset. The final principal components were interpreted as 7 lower-body strength domains: (a) dynamic force, (b) dynamic timing, (c) early isometric, (d) maximal isometric, (e) countermovement velocity, (f) reactive output, and (g) reactive timing. The findings demonstrate that a total of 7 metrics from a drop jump, CMJ, and isometric test can be used to represent ~50% of variance in lower-body strength performance of field sport athletes. A novel fixation system for a hand‐held dynamometer (HHD) was designed to enable isometric muscle measurements on various muscle groups of strong, healthy individuals in a field setting. The objective of this study was to evaluate the intra‐ and interrater reliability of the system and determine its suitability for use by multiple researchers within large‐scale data collections during field activities. Four researchers tested eight healthy subjects, who each completed eight different maximal isometric muscle strength assessments using the HHD fixation system. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) results were evaluated with a 95% confidence interval. ICC results for interrater reliability demonstrated excellent agreement of all eight measurements tested. ICC results for intrarater reliability demonstrated excellent agreement for six out of eight measurements. This system provides a new opportunity for several different high‐quality maximal muscle strength measurements to be collected by multiple data collectors on large numbers of strong, healthy individuals in a field setting. Introduction The Head Shake Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT) assesses postural stability while the head is moving and may also identify deficits in attention associated with the dual task conditions of moving the head at a specified speed while maintaining balance. Normative values for the HS-SOT have not been established in a healthy military population or other highly trained populations such as athletes. Establishing normative values in a military population will enable clinicians to compare the scores of patients with medical conditions that affect postural stability and sensory integration such as concussion or traumatic brain injury, vestibular dysfunction, or migraine to those of a healthy population to determine a need for intervention and for return to duty considerations. The purposes of this cross-sectional study were to establish normative values for the HS-SOT within the military population, to determine whether HS-SOT scores differed between men and women or among age groups, and to determine whether HS-SOT scores differed from scores on similar conditions of the Sensory Organization Test (SOT). Materials and Methods Active duty service members (n  = 237, 54 female) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the National Capitol Region (Washington, D.C, Maryland, and Virginia) completed the SOT and HS-SOT on the NeuroCom® Balance Master™. Parametric and non-parametric comparisons were analyzed for the equilibrium scores for the SOT and HS-SOT conditions 2 (SOT-2, HS-SOT-2, respectively) and 5 (SOT-5, HS-SOT-5, respectively) and the equilibrium score ratios (ESRs) for HS-SOT-2 and HS-SOT-5 for the total sample, men and women, and age group categories (18–26 years, 27–35 years, and 36–45 years). Results There were no differences in HS-SOT-2 or HS-SOT-5 equilibrium ratio scores between men (0.99 ±.029 and 0.83 ±0.25, respectively) and women (1.00 ±0.03 and 0.81 ±0.21, respectively). There were no differences in the SOT-2 equilibrium scores (F = 2.29, P  = 0.10) or SOT-5 equilibrium scores (Kruskal-Wallis H = 3.26, P  = 0.20) among the different age groups. SOT-2 equilibrium scores were higher than the HS-SOT-2 equilibrium scores (Z = –4.10, P  < 0.001). SOT-5 equilibrium scores were also higher than HS-SOT-5 equilibrium scores (Z = –12.22, P  < 0.001), and the HS-SOT-2 and HS-SOT-5 equilibrium scores differed from each other (Z = –13.26, P  < 0.001). Conclusions This study established normative values for the HS-SOT in a military population. Equilibrium scores did not differ between men and women or among age groups, suggesting that these values can be used as reference points for most service members. Postural stability was found to be significantly challenged during head motion, indicating the HS-SOT is a valuable tool for identifying subtle impairments in postural stability. These findings have important implications for early detection and intervention in individuals with medical conditions affecting balance, particularly concussions or vestibular disorders. Purpose: Endurance elite athletes are expected to present a cardiac remodelling, characterized by eccentric hypertrophy (EH), may be associated with higher sportive performances. However, not all can present a cardiac remodelling. The study aimed to identify endurance athletes without cardiac remodelling characterizing their physiologic and clinical features. Methods: We studied 309 endurance athletes (cycling, rowing, canoeing, triathlon, athletics, long-distance swimming, cross-country skiing, mid-long distance track, pentathlon, biathlon, long-distance skating and Nordic-combined) examined during period of training, by clinical evaluation, ECG, echocardiogram and exercise-stress test. Sport career achievements (Olympic\World championship medals or national\world records) were recorded. Results: EH was found in most of athletes, (n = 126, 67% of males; n = 85, 68.5% of females). A significant proportion,, exhibited normal geometry (NG) (n = 59, 31.3% in males; n = 39, 31.4% in females). At stress test, significant differences between EH and NG athletes were found in peak power (317.1 ± 71.2W in NG vs. 342.2 ± 60.6W in EH, p = 0.014 in males and 225.1 ± 38.7W in NG vs. 247.1 ± 37W in EH, p = 0.003 in females), rest heart rate (66.1 ± 13 in NG vs. 58.6 ± 11.6 in EH, p = 0.001 in males and 68 ± 13.2 in NG vs. 59.2 ± 11.2 in EH, p = 0.001 in females) with similar ventricular extrasystoles (p = 0.363 in males and p = 0.492 in females). However, no significant differences in athletic achievements were registered. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates a relatively high prevalence of NG in endurance athletes, in addition to the expected EH. Athletes with NG perform worse in exercise-stress test and exhibit some less advantageous functional heart characteristics.
