High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We report on a search for the radiative decay of Upsilon(1S) to the pseudoscalar mesons eta and etaprime in 21.2 +/- 0.2 times 10^6 Upsilon(1S) decays collected with the CLEO III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). The eta meson was reconstructed in the three modes eta to gamma-gamma, eta to pi+pi-pi0 and eta to 3pi0. The etaprime meson was reconstructed in the mode etaprime to pi+ pi- eta with eta decaying through any of the above three modes, and also etaprime to gamma rho, where rho decays to pi^+ pi^-. Five out of the seven sub-modes are found to be virtually background-free. In four of them we find no signal candidates and in one Upsilon(1S) to gamma-etaprime, etaprime to pi+ pi- eta, eta to pi+pi-pi0 there are two good signal candidates, which is insufficient evidence to claim a signal. The other two sub-modes eta to gamma-gamma and etaprime to gamma rho are background limited, and show no excess of events in their signal regions. We combine the results from different channels and obtain upper limits at the 90% C.L. which are B(Upsilon(1S) to gamma eta) < 1.0 times 10^-6 and B(Upsilon(1S) to gamma etaprime) < 1.9 times 10^-6. Our limits are an order of magnitude tighter than the previous ones and below the predictions made by some theoretical models., Comment: 14 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2007/, Submitted to PRD

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
Using data obtained with the CLEO~III detector, running at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR), we report on a new study of exclusive radiative Upsilon(1S) decays into the final states gamma pi^+ pi^-, gamma K^+ K^-, and gamma p pbar.. We present branching ratio measurements for the decay modes Upsilon(1S) to gamma f_2(1270), Upsilon(1S) to gamma f_2'(1525), and Upsilon(1S) to gamma K^+K^-; helicity production ratios for f_2(1270) and f_2'(1525); upper limits for the decay Upsilon(1S) to gamma f_J(2200), with f_J(2220) to pi^+ pi^-, K^+ K^-, p pbar; and an upper limit for the decay Upsilon(1S) to gamma X(1860), with X(1860) to gamma p pbar., Comment: 17 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, Submitted to PRD

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We have studied the inclusive photon spectrum in psi(2S) decays using the CLEO III detector. We present the most precise measurements of electric dipole (E1) photon transition rates for psi(2S)--> gamma chicJ(1P) (J=0,1,2). We also confirm the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transition, psi(2S)-->gamma etac(1S). However, the direct M1 transition psi(2S)-->gamma etac(2S) observed by the Crystal Ball as a narrow peak at a photon energy of 91 MeV is not found in our data., Comment: 8 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2004/, submitted to PRL

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We report on determinations of |Vub| resulting from studies of the branching fraction and q^2 distributions in exclusive semileptonic B decays that proceed via the b->u transition. Our data set consists of the 9.7x10^6 BBbar meson pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector. We measure B(B0 -> pi- l+ nu) = (1.33 +- 0.18 +- 0.11 +- 0.01 +- 0.07)x10^{-4} and B(B0 -> rho- l+ nu) = (2.17 +- 0.34 +0.47/-0.54 +- 0.41 +- 0.01)x10^{-4}, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the signal, and systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the cross-feed modes, respectively. We also find B(B+ -> eta l+ nu) = (0.84 +- 0.31 +- 0.16 +- 0.09)x10^{-4}, consistent with what is expected from the B -> pi l nu mode and quark model symmetries. We extract |Vub| using Light-Cone Sum Rules (LCSR) for 0<= q^2<16 GeV^2 and Lattice QCD (LQCD) for 16 GeV^2 <= q^2 < q^2_max. Combining both intervals yields |Vub| = (3.24 +- 0.22 +- 0.13 +0.55/-0.39 +- 0.09)x10^{-3}$ for pi l nu, and |Vub| = (3.00 +- 0.21 +0.29/-0.35 +0.49/-0.38 +-0.28)x10^{-3} for rho l nu, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, theoretical, and signal form-factor shape, respectively. Our combined value from both decay modes is |Vub| = (3.17 +- 0.17 +0.16/-0.17 +0.53/-0.39 +-0.03)x10^{-3}., Comment: 45 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PRD

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
The ratio of charged and neutral B meson production at the Upsilon(4S), f_{+-}/f_{00}, is measured through the decays B bar -> D* l- nu_l bar, reconstructed using a partial reconstruction method where the D* is detected only through a pion daughter from the decay D* -> D pi. Using data collected by the CLEO II detector, the charged and neutral B decays are measured in such a way that their ratio is independent of decay model, limited mainly by the uncertainty in the relative efficiency for detecting neutral and charged pions. This measurement yields the ratio of production fractions times the ratio of semileptonic branching fractions, f_{+-}b_{+}/f_{00}b_0. Assuming that b_+/b_0 is equal to the lifetime ratio tau_+/tau_0 and using the world average value of tau_+/tau_0 as input, we obtain f_{+-}/f_{00}=1.058+- 0.084+- 0.136., Comment: 18 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PRL

Using 4.68 fb^{-1} of e^+e^- annihilation data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) we have studied tau radiative decays tau -> mu nu nu gamma and tau -> e nu nu gamma. For a 10 MeV minimum photon energy in the tau rest frame, the branching fraction of radiative tau decay to a muon or electron is measured to be (3.61+-0.16+-0.35)*10^{-3} or (1.75+-0.06+-0.17)*10^{-2}, respectively. The branching fractions are in agreement with the Standard Model theoretical predictions., 11 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS

We exploit the quantum coherence between pair-produced D-0 and (D) over bar (0) in psi(3770) decays to study charm mixing, which is characterized by the parameters x and y, and to make a first determination of the relative strong phase delta between D-0 -> K+pi(-) and (D) over bar (0)-> K+pi(-). Using 281 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at E-cm=3.77 GeV, as well as branching fraction input and time-integrated measurements of R-M equivalent to(x(2)+y(2))/2 and R-WS equivalent to Gamma(D-0 -> K+pi(-))/Gamma((D) over bar (0)-> K+pi(-)) from other experiments, we find cos delta=1.03(-0.17)(+0.31) +/- 0.06, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. By further including other mixing parameter measurements, we obtain an alternate measurement of cos delta=1.10 +/- 0.35 +/- 0.07, as well as xsin delta=(4.4(-1.8)(+2.7) +/- 2.9) x 10(-3) and delta=(22(-12-11)(+11+9))degrees.

Using a sample of tagged D-s(+) decays collected near the (DsDs -/+)-D-*+/- peak production energy in e(+)e(-) collisions with the CLEO-c detector, we study the leptonic decay D-s(+)->tau(+)nu(tau) via the decay channel tau(+)-> e(+)nu(e)(nu) over bar (tau). We measure B(D-s(+)->tau(+)nu(tau))=(6.17 +/- 0.71 +/- 0.34)%, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Combining this result with our measurements of D-s(+)->mu(+)nu(mu) and D-s(+)->tau(+)nu(tau) (via tau(+)->pi(+)(nu) over bar (tau)), we determine f(Ds)=(274 +/- 10 +/- 5) MeV.

We report determination of branching fractions for the decays psi(2S)-> h+J/psi, where h=any, pi(+)pi(-), pi(0)pi(0), eta, pi(0), and gamma gamma through chi(c0,1,2). These measurements use 27M psi(2S) decays produced in e(+)e(-) collision data collected with the CLEO detector. The resulting branching fractions and ratios thereof improve upon previously achieved precision in all cases, and in combination with other measurements permit determination of B(chi(cJ)->gamma J/psi) and B(psi(2S)-> light hadrons).

Using a sample of 2.59x10(7) psi(2S) decays collected by the CLEO-c detector, we present results of a study of chi(cJ) (J=0, 1, 2) decays into baryon-antibaryon final states. We present the world's most precise measurements of the chi(cJ)-> p (P) over bar and chi(cJ)->Lambda(Lambda) over bar branching fractions, and the first measurements of chi(c0) decays to other hyperons. These results illuminate the decay mechanism of the chi(c) states.

Using 281 pb(-1) of data collected with the CLEO-c detector, we present new measurements of Cabibbo-suppressed decays of D-0 and D+ mesons to eta and eta(') final states. We make first observations of D-0 ->eta(')pi(0), eta eta, eta eta('), and eta pi(+)pi(-), and find evidence for D+->eta pi(+)pi(0), D+->eta(')pi(+)pi(0), and D-0 ->eta(')pi(+)pi(-). We also report on improved measurements of D-0 ->eta pi(0), D+->eta pi(+), and D+->eta(')pi(+). Using the measured two-body Cabibbo-suppressed decays, we extract amplitudes for specific flavor topologies and compare them to those from Cabibbo-favored decays.

Using e(+) e(-) -> D-s(*-) D-s(+) data collected near the peak D-s production energy, E-cm = 4170 MeV, with the CLEO-c detector, we present the first observation of the decay D-s(+) -> p (n) over bar. We measure a branching fraction B(D-s(+) -> p (n) over bar) = (1.30 +/- 0.36(-0.16)(+0.12)) x 10(-3). This is the first observation of a charmed meson decaying into a baryon-antibaryon final state.

We present measurements of D -> K-S(0)pi and D -> K-L(0)pi branching fractions using 281 pb(-1) of psi(3770) data at the CLEO-c experiment. We find that B(D-0 -> K-S(0)pi(0)) is larger than B(D-0 -> K-L(0)pi(0)), with an asymmetry of R(D-0)=0.108 +/- 0.025 +/- 0.024. For B(D+-> K-S(0)pi(+)) and B(D+-> K-L(0)pi(+)), we observe no measurable difference; the asymmetry is R(D+)=0.022 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.018. The D-0 asymmetry is consistent with the value based on the U-spin prediction A(D-0 -> K-0 pi(0))/A(D-0 ->(K) over bar (0)pi(0))=-tan(2)theta(C), where theta(C) is the Cabibbo angle.

We exploit the quantum coherence between pair-produced D-0 and (D) over bar (0) in psi(3770) decays to study charm mixing, which is characterized by the parameters x and y, and to make a first determination of the relative strong phase delta between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D-0 -> K+pi(-) and Cabibbo-favored (D) over bar (0)-> K+pi(-). We analyze a sample of 1.0 x 10(6) D-0(D) over bar (0) pairs from 281 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at E-cm=3.77 GeV. By combining CLEO-c measurements with branching fraction input and time-integrated measurements of R-M equivalent to (x(2)+y(2))/2 and R-WS equivalent to Gamma(D-0 -> K+pi(-))/Gamma((D) over bar (0)-> K+pi(-)) from other experiments, we find cos delta = 1.03(-0.17)(+0.31) +/- 0.06, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, by further including external measurements of charm mixing parameters, we obtain an alternate measurement of cos delta = 1.10 +/- 0.35 +/- 0.07, as well as xsin delta = (4.4(-1.8)(+2.7) +/- 2.9) x 10(-3) and delta = (22(-12-11)(+11+9))degrees.

Using data taken with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the direct-photon momentum spectrum in the decay J/psi(1S)->gamma gg, via the "tagged" process: e(+)e(-)->psi(2S); psi(2S)-> J/psi pi(+)pi(-); J/psi ->gamma+X. Including contributions from two-body radiative decay processes, we find the ratio of the inclusive direct-photon branching fraction to that of the dominant three-gluon branching fraction [R-gamma=B(gg gamma)/B(ggg)] to be R-gamma=0.137 +/- 0.001 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.004, where the errors shown are statistical, systematic, and the model-dependent uncertainty related to the extrapolation to zero photon energy. The shape of the scaled photon energy spectrum in J/psi -> gg gamma is observed to be very similar to that of Upsilon -> gg gamma. The R-gamma value obtained is roughly consistent with that expected by a simple quark-charge scaling [R-gamma similar to(q(c)/q(b))(2)] of the value determined at the Upsilon(1S), but somewhat higher than the value expected from the running of the strong coupling constant.

The branching fractions of D-s(+/-) meson decays serve to normalize many measurements of processes involving charm quarks. Using 298 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collisions recorded at a center of mass energy of 4.17 GeV, we determine absolute branching fractions for eight D-s(+/-) decays with a double tag technique. In particular we determine the branching fraction B(D-s(+)-> K-K+pi(+))=(5.50 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.16)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also provide partial branching fractions for kinematic subsets of the K-K+pi(+) decay mode.

We search for a non-SM-like CP-odd Higgs boson (a10) decaying to tau+tau- or µ+µ- in radiative decays of the Upsilon(1S). No significant signal is found, and upper limits on the product branching ratios are set. Our tau+tau- results are almost 2 orders of magnitude more stringent than previous upper limits. Our data provide no evidence for a Higgs state with a mass of 214 MeV decaying to µ+µ-, previously proposed as an explanation for 3 Sigma+-->pµ+µ- events observed by the HyperCP experiment. Our results constrain NMSSM models.

We report the first observation of the decay J/psi -> 3 gamma. The signal has a statistical significance of 6 sigma and corresponds to a branching fraction of B(J/psi -> 3 gamma)=(1.2 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.2)x10(-5), in which the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The measurement uses psi(2S)->pi(+)pi(-)J/psi events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e(+)e(-) collider.

By using 1.8 x 10(6) D (D) over bar pairs, we have measured B(D-0 --> pi(-)e(+)nu(e)) = 0.299(11)(9)%, B(D+ --> pi(0)e(+)nu(e)) = 0.373(22)(13)%, B(D-0 --> K(-)e(+)nu(e)) = 3.56(3)(9)%, and B(D+ --> K(0)e(+)nu(e)) = 8.53(13) x (23)% and have studied the q(2) dependence of the form factors. By combining our results with recent lattice calculations, we obtain vertical bar V-cd vertical bar = 0.217(9)(4)(23) and vertical bar V-cs vertical bar = 1.015(10)(11)(106).

Using a total of 2.74×107 decays of the psi(2S) collected with the CLEO-c detector, we present a study of chicJ-->gammaV, where V=rho0, omega, phi. The transitions chic1-->gammarho0 and chic1-->gammaomega are observed with [script B](chic1-->gammarho0)=(2.43±0.19±0.22)×10-4 and [script B](chic1-->gammaomega)=(8.3±1.5±1.2)×10-5. In the chic1-->gammarho0 transition, the final state meson is dominantly longitudinally polarized. Upper limits on the branching fractions of other chicJ states to light vector mesons are presented.

We present measurements of decay matrix elements for hadronic transitions of the form Υ(nS)→Υ(mS)ππ, where (n,m)=(3,1),(2,1),(3,2). We reconstruct charged and neutral pion modes with the final state Upsilon decaying to either μ^+μ^- or e^+e^-. Dalitz plot distributions for the 12 decay modes are fit individually as well as jointly assuming isospin symmetry, thereby measuring the matrix elements of the decay amplitude. We observe and account for the anomaly previously noted in the dipion invariant mass distribution for the Υ(3S)→Υ(1S)ππ transition and obtain good descriptions of the dynamics of the decay using the most general decay amplitude allowed by partial conservation of the axial-vector current considerations. The fits further indicate that the Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)ππ and Υ(3S)→Υ(2S)ππ transitions also show the presence of terms in the decay amplitude that were previously ignored, although at a relatively suppressed level.

We find B(chi(c0)->eta eta)=(0.31 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.02)%, B(chi(c0)->eta eta('))< 0.05% at the 90% confidence level, and B(chi(c0)->eta(')eta('))=(0.17 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.01)%. We also present upper limits for the decays of chi(c2) into these final states. These results give information on the decay mechanism of chi(c) states into pseudoscalars.

We measure the mass of the eta meson using psi(2S)->eta J/psi events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e(+)e(-) collider. Using the four decay modes eta ->gamma gamma, 3 pi(0), pi(+)pi(-)pi(0), and pi(+)pi(-)gamma, we find M-eta=547.785 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.057 MeV, in which the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result has an uncertainty comparable to the two most precise previous measurements and is consistent with that of NA48, but is inconsistent at the level of 6.5 sigma with the much smaller mass obtained by GEM.

We find B(B-0 ->pi(-)l(+)nu) = (1.37 +/- 0.15(stat) +/- 0.11(sys)) x 10(-4) and B(B-0 -> rho(-)l(+)nu) = (2.93 +/- 0.37(stat) +/- 0.37(sys)) x 10(-4) and find evidence for B+ -> eta(')l(+)nu, with B(B+ -> eta(')l(+)nu)=(2.66 +/- 0.80(stat) +/- 0.56(sys)) x 10(-4). From our B -> pi l nu rate for q(2) > 16 GeV2 and lattice QCD, we find vertical bar V-ub vertical bar = (3.6 +/- 0.4(stat) +/- 0.2(syst-0.4thy)(+0.6))x10(-3).

Using 5.63 pb(-1) of data accumulated at the psi(2S) resonance with the CLEO III and CLEO-c detectors corresponding to 3.08x10(6) psi(2S) decays, a search is performed for the decay psi(2S)->eta(c)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) to test a theoretical prediction based upon the assumption that the cc pair in the psi(2S) does not annihilate directly into three gluons but rather survives before annihilating. No signal is observed, and a combined upper limit from six eta(c) decay modes is determined to be B(psi(2S)->eta(c)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0))

Using CLEO data, we study the production of the antideuteron, (d) over bar, in Upsilon(nS) resonance decays and the nearby continuum. The branching ratios obtained are B-dir(Upsilon(1S)->(d) over barX)=(3.36 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.25)x10(-5), B(Upsilon(1S)->(d) over barX)=(2.86 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.21)x10(-5), and B(Upsilon(2S)->(d) over barX)=(3.37 +/- 0.50 +/- 0.25)x10(-5), where the "dir" superscript indicates that decays produced via reannihilation of the b (b) over bar pair to a gamma(*) are removed from both the signal and the normalizing number of Upsilon(1S) decays in order to isolate direct decays of the Upsilon(1S) to ggg, gg gamma. Upper limits at 90% C.L. are given for B(Upsilon(4S)->(d) over barX)< 1.3x10(-5), and continuum production sigma(e(+)e(-)->(d) over barX)< 0.031 pb. The Upsilon(2S) data is also used to extract a limit on chi(bJ)->(d) over barX. The results indicate enhanced deuteron production in ggg, gg gamma hadronization compared to gamma(*)-> q (q) over bar. Baryon number compensation is also investigated with the large Upsilon(1S)->(d) over barX sample.

We present a measurement of the branching fraction of invisible Y(1S) decays, using 1.2 fb(-1) of data collected at the Y(2S) resonance with the CLEO III detector at CESR. After subtracting expected backgrounds from events that pass selection criteria for invisible Y(1S) decay in Y(2S) -> pi(+) pi(-) Y(1S), we deduce a 90% C. We report on a study of exclusive radiative decays of the Y(1S) resonance into the final states gamma pi(0)pi(0), gamma eta eta and gamma pi(0)eta, using 1.13 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected at root s=9.46 GeV with the CLEO III detector operating at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. In the channel gamma pi(0)pi(0), we measure the branching ratio for the decay mode Y(1S)->gamma f(2)(1270) to be (10.5 +/- 1.6(stat)(-1.8)(+1.9)(syst))x10(-5). We place upper limits on the product branching ratios for the isoscalar resonances f(0)(1500) and f(0)(1710) for the pi(0)pi(0) and eta eta decay channels. We also set an upper limit on the Y(1S) radiative decay into pi(0)eta.

We examine e(+)e(-) -> Ds-Ds*+ and Ds*-Ds+ interactions at 4170 MeV using the CLEO-c detector in order to measure the decay constant fD(s)(+). We use the D-s(+) -> l(+)nu channel, where the l(+) designates either a mu(+) or a tau(+), when the tau(+) -> pi(+), when the tau(+) -> pi(+)(v) over bar .Analyzing both modes independently, we determine B(D-s(+) -> mu(+)nu)=(0.594 +/- 0.066 +/- 0.031)%, and B(D-s(+) ->tau(+)nu)=(8.0 +/- 1.3 +/- 0.4)%. We also analyze them simultaneously to find an effective value of Beff(D-s(+) ->mu(+)nu)=(0.638 +/- 0.059 +/- 0.033)% and extract fD(s)(+)=274 +/- 13 +/- 7 MeV. Combining with our previous determination of B(D+ -> mu(+)nu), we also find the ratio fD(s)(+)/fD(+)=1.23 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.04. We compare to current theoretical estimates. Finally, we find B(D-s(+) -> e(+)nu)< 1.3X10(-4) at 90% confidence level.

Knowledge of the B-s decay fraction of the Upsilon(5S) resonance, f(S), is important for B-s meson studies at the Upsilon(5S) energy. Using a data sample collected by the CLEO III detector at CESR consisting of 0.423 fb(-1) on the Upsilon(5S) resonance, 6.34 fb(-1) on the Upsilon(4S) and 2.32 fb(-1) in the continuum below the Upsilon(4S), we measure B(Upsilon(5S)->phi X)=(13.8 +/- 0.7(-1.5)(+2.3))% and B(Upsilon(4S)->phi X)=(7.1 +/- 0.1 +/- 0.6)%; the ratio of the two rates is (1.9 +/- 0.1(-0.2)(+0.3)). This is the first measurement of the phi meson yield from the Upsilon(5S). Using these rates, and a model dependent estimate of B(B-s ->phi X), we determine f(S)=(24.6 +/- 2.9(-5.3)(+11.0))%. We also update our previous independent measurement of f(S) made using the inclusive D-s yields to now be (16.8 +/- 2.6(-3.4)(+6.7))%, due to a better estimate of the number of hadronic events. We also report the total Upsilon(5S) hadronic cross section above continuum to be sigma(e(+)e(-)->Upsilon(5S))=(0.301 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.039) nb. This allows us to extract the fraction of B mesons as (58.9 +/- 10.0 +/- 9.2)%, equal to 1-f(S). Averaging the three methods gives a model dependent result of f(S)=(21(-3)(+6))%.

Using a sample of 3 X 10(6) psi(2S) decays recorded by the CLEO detector, we study three-body decays of the X(c)0, X-c1, and X-c2 produced in radiative decays of the psi(2S). We consider the final states pi(+) pi(-) eta, K+ K- eta pp eta, pi(+) pi(-) eta', K+ K- pi(0), pp pi(0), pi(+) K- K-S(0) and K+ p Lambda , measuring branching fractions or placing upper limits. For X-c1 -> pi(+) pi(-) eta, K+ K- pi(0), and pi(+) K- K-S(0) our observed samples are large enough to indicate the largest contributions to the substructure.

Using e(+)e(-)-> hadrons data collected with the CLEO-III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we study the inclusive production of baryons/antibaryons (p,Lambda) and mesons (phi and f(2)(1270)) in gluon-fragmentation and quark-fragmentation processes. We first corroborate previous per-event total particle yields in Upsilon(1S)-> ggg compared with nearby continuum (e(+)e(-)-> q (q) over bar) indicating greater (similar to x2) per-event yields of baryons in 3-gluon fragmentation. We find similar results when we extend that comparison to include the Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) resonances. With higher statistics, we now also probe the momentum dependence of these per-event particle yields. Next, we compare particle production in the photon-tagged process Upsilon(1S)-> gg gamma with that in e(+)e(-)-> q (q) over bar gamma events, to allow comparison of two-parton with three-parton particle-specific fragmentation. For each particle, we determine the "enhancement" ratio, defined as the ratio of particle yields per gluon-fragmentation event compared to quark-fragmentation event. Thus defined, an enhancement of 1.0 implies equal per-event production in gluon and quark fragmentation. In the photon-tagged analysis (Upsilon(1S)-> gg gamma compared to e(+)e(-)-> q (q) over bar gamma), we find almost no enhancement for protons (similar to 1.2 +/- 0.1), but a significant enhancement (similar to 1.9 +/- 0.3) for Lambda's. This small measured proton enhancement rate is supported by a study of baryon production in chi(b2)-> gg -> p+X relative to chi(b1)-> q (q) over barg -> p+X. Overall, per-event baryon production in radiative two-gluon fragmentation is somewhat smaller than that observed in three-gluon decays of the Upsilon(1S). Our results for baryon production are inconsistent with the predictions of the JETSET (7.3) fragmentation model.

We present measurements of decay matrix elements for hadronic transitions of the form Upsilon(nS)->Upsilon(mS)pi pi, where (n,m)=(3,1),(2,1),(3,2). We reconstruct charged and neutral pion modes with the final state Upsilon decaying to either mu(+)mu(-) or e(+)e(-). Dalitz plot distributions for the 12 decay modes are fit individually as well as jointly assuming isospin symmetry, thereby measuring the matrix elements of the decay amplitude. We observe and account for the anomaly previously noted in the dipion invariant mass distribution for the Upsilon(3S)->Upsilon(1S)pi pi transition and obtain good descriptions of the dynamics of the decay using the most general decay amplitude allowed by partial conservation of the axial-vector current considerations. The fits further indicate that the Upsilon(2S)->Upsilon(1S)pi pi and Upsilon(3S)->Upsilon(2S)pi pi transitions also show the presence of terms in the decay amplitude that were previously ignored, although at a relatively suppressed level.
