Background: Hepatitis B is one of the common liver diseases. It also affects mental and social aspects of life. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients affected with chronic hepatitis B who referred to Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Research Center, Isfahan, Iran were studied. After filling a validated questionnaire including demographics and information related to depression and anxiety, the data was analyzed. Findings: Among 107 patients with chronic hepatitis B (78 males and 29 females with mean age of 39 ± 13 years), none had depression and only 2.8% suffered from anxiety. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that patients with chronic hepatitis B do not have depression. One of the causes might be inadequate information about the disease. Background: Hepatitis C, as a major public health problem, is associated with increased prevalence of psychiatric disorders, particularly depression. This study was performed to determine the prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients with hepatitis C and to detect related risk factors among these patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients with chronic hepatitis C who referred to Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Research Center of Isfahan, Iran were studied. Subjects were selected by simple random sampling during a 4-month period. They all completed a validated questionnaire including demographics and information related to depression and anxiety. Zung Self rating Anxiety Scale and Beck Depression Inventory were used. The data was finally analyzed. Findings: Among 264 patients with chronic hepatitis C (262 males and 2 females; mean age: 34.4 ± 6.7 years), 85.7% had no depression, 8.9% had mild depression and 5.4% had moderate depression. Anxiety was observed in 17.9% of the subjects from which 17% had mild to moderate and 0.9% had sever anxiety. There were significant relationships between depression and marital status and job. Anxiety also had significant relationships with history of addiction, job, time of drug usage and place of living. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated the high prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients with hepatitis C. Such patients, especially those with related risk factors such as unemployment, being single, etc.) require psychiatry consultation and constant monitoring of psychiatric disorders. Background: Hepatitis B is one of the major causes of mortality among viral diseases. To reduce morbidity rate and increase knowledge of people about potential risk factors, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B among the general population and the risk factors associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Isfahan, Iran. Materials and Methods: In a case–control study, 314 HBV-infected patients and 557 healthy participants were recruited. Data on demographics, immunization history, medical history, family medical history, life history, therapeutic factors, and behavioral risk factors were collected through a standard checklist. Chi-square and logistic regression were used for univariate and multivariable analyses. Results: Our results showed that among sociodemographic variables, higher age, being male, lower economic status, and lower educational attainments increased the risk of affecting by HBV (odds ratio [OR] >1, P < 0.001); furthermore, Iranian and no immigrant people showed higher significant risk of being affected by HBV. Multivariable logistic regression showed among medical, blood, and behavioral risk factors, family history of hepatitis (OR: 10.56; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.56–24.86), dental treatment history (OR: 4.30; 95% CI: 1.41–13.10), and hospitalization (OR: 2.94; 95% CI: 1.72–5.00). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that there are still several risk factors for hepatitis B surface antigen infection among the Iranian adult population. Immunization programs should continue and focus on high-risk adults, and interventions should be directed toward to reduce risk factors associated with hepatitis B. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are common fractures in the elderly and are typically treated conservatively with immobilization. However, there is no consensus on whether to choose early or late conventional mobilization, taking their outcomes into account. This paper reviews comparative studies on the clinical outcomes of one- and three-week immobilization periods in terms of limb function, pain intensity, and complications following the adoption of the non-surgical treatment of PHF., Methods: The current systematic review started with searching PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on PHF patients to compare the clinical outcomes between patients receiving the one-week mobilization (early mobilization) and those receiving the three-week mobilization (late mobilization). We also performed a meta-analysis to compare the two groups' limb function and pain levels at three and six months of follow-up., Results: Five of the seven RCTs had adequate data to be included in the meta-analysis. The quantitative results showed that the early mobilized patients had improved limb function at three [weighted mean difference (WMD): 5.15 (CI 95%: 0.68-9.62)] and six [WMD: 3.51 (CI 95%: 0.43-6.60)] months, but not at 12 months of follow-up. At either three, six, or 12 months, there was no difference in pain intensity between the two groups., Conclusion: This review supports the adoption of early mobilization at one week for the non-operative management of PHFs. Objectives: An alternative to both the time-consuming traditional and the expensive three-dimensional (3D) methods for splint design is to use two-dimensional (2D) images. The present study utilized image processing to achieve an automatic and practical method of anthropometry measurement to design and build a personalized and remote cock-up splint. This method is applicable for patients unable to personally attend clinic appointments., Methods: The defined landmarks of the cock-up splint of 100 adult participants were measured manually. Each individual had a 2D image taken of their upper limb using a customized imaging device. The 2D image portions that corresponded to the manual measurements were then identified, and their sizes were retrieved in pixels using MATLAB software. To find equations between manual 3D measurements and 2D image processing ones, multiple linear regression analysis was performed on landmark variables., Results: We were able to determine equations to estimate manual dimensions based on 2D image data. In the men's group, we could predict the third finger length, forearm circumference at three levels, and the largest forearm circumference. In the women's group, in addition to variables predicted for men, hand circumference at the distal palmar crease and first web levels, as well as arm circumference, could be predicted using the identified equations., Conclusion: Based on the findings, 2D image processing could be an appropriate method for designing personalized cock-up splints., Competing Interests: The authors do not have any potential conflicts of interest regarding this manuscript., (Copyright © 2024 Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.)
