ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In a Danish context, Filipino migrants are often positioned as working class laborers from the global South. Yet this political positioning of work migrants does not catch the complex processes of individual social positioning within a transnational space. This article shows how social class is shaped by 1) political mobilization, 2) positions of employment and social status, 3) processes of gendered intimacy, and 4) performances of embodiment. Throughout every aspect, individual and institutional religiosity creates alternative spaces where the established social classes become less important. The interviewed Filipino Christians apply individual narratives of religious endeavour to complement their social situation in Denmark. DANSK RESUMÉ: Filippinske migranter bliver i en dansk kontekst ofte positioneret som ufaglært arbejdskraft fra det globale syd. Men den politiske positionering tager ikke højde for den ofte komplekse individuelle placering i et transnationalt socialt rum. Artiklen viser, hvordan social klasse er formet af 1) politisk mobilisering, 2) erhvervsmæssig placering og social status, 3) kønnede processer i intimsfæren, og 4) kropsliggørelse. I alle aspekter skaber både individuel og institutionel religiøsitet alternative rum, hvor de etablerede sociale klasser bliver mindre vigtige. De interviewede filippinske kristne kultiverer religiøse modnarrativer, der giver andre perspektiver på deres sociale situation i Danmark.

During the last decade, local celebrations of winter solstice on the 21st of December have increased all over Denmark. These events refer to the Old Norse ritual of celebrating the return of the light, and their appeal is very broad on a local community level. By presenting two cases of Danish winter solstice celebrations, I aim to unfold how we can understand these new ritualisations as non-religious rituals simultaneously contesting and supplementing the overarching seasonal celebration of Christmas. My material for this study is local newspaper sources that convey the public sphere on a municipality level. I analyse the development in solstice ritualisations over time from 1990 to 2020. Although different in location and content, similarities unite the new solstice celebrations: they emphasise the local community and the natural surroundings. My argument is that the winter solstice celebrations have grown out of a religiously diversified public sphere and should be understood as non-religious rituals in a secular context.

Christian migrant churches have been a part of the borderland of the Danish model of religion for a long time, but the state and the Danish folk church are opening up for migrant churches to become a part of the Danish folk church through valgmenighedsloven (law on free congregations). Some migrant churches thereby move from the borderland to the core of the Danish model of religion. This movement, however, is not without conflict as several migrant churches challenge the conventional and Westphalian way of conceptualising religion. I use Peter Beyer's theory of Post-Westphalian religion to shed light on the possible borders between the migrant churches and the Danish folk church. Kristne migrantkirker har længe været en del af den danske religionsmodels grænseflade, men staten og folkekirken er ved at åbne op for, at de nyere migrantkirker kan blive en del af folkekirken via valgmenighedsloven. Dermed bevæger nogle migrantkirker sig fra religionsmodellens grænseflade til at blive en del af modellens kerne. Denne bevægelse er dog ikke uden konflikter, da flere migrantkirker udfordrer den gængse og westfalske måde at tænke religion på.
