Sea beet (Beta vulgaris L. subsp. maritima (L.) Arcang.) is a wild member of the Amaranthaceae family and a progenitor for all the cultivated beets (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris). It is a source of stress-resistant genes, contributing 21 valuable traits to sugar beet through multiple breeding approaches. Despite its importance, the core morphological diversity of sea beet within the Egyptian Mediterranean coastal region has not yet been thoroughly explored. The field observations indicated notable morphological diversity among sea beet populations. This study investigated the morphological diversity of six sea beet populations along with their associated soil and climatic conditions in their primary habitats. Our morphometric investigations identified two varieties: Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima var. glabra, characterized by glabrous, erect, larger basal leaves, and Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima var. pilosa, distinguished by its hairy, prostrate form with smaller basal leaves. These varieties exhibited differences in their spatial distribution, showing high variations at the inter- and intra-population levels as well as the variety level. Soil parameters significantly influenced population morphological variability, which demonstrated a strong positive correlation with soil organic carbon. Our results highlight the need for precise survey and molecular characterization to secure these potential genetic resources from alteration and loss, especially in coastal habitats that are particularly sensitive to future climate change.

Some plant species may exhibit new microenvironments which lead to significant changes in the cover and diversity of the coexisting species. In this investigation, we evaluated the effects of Plantago lagopus L. on the cover and diversity of the associated plant species in the urban vegetation. A total of 70 plots were conducted in sites with- and without this species in urban gardens. Cover of the associated species and different diversity indices including species richness, Shannon-Wiener, evenness, and Simpson indices were measured. The allelopathic potential of P. lagopus was verified using its rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils on two target species existing within the same environment. Some soil criteria and seed sizes of the associated species were also determined. Most of the coexisting weeds were reduced in terms of their cover in plots with Plantago. The reduction of plant diversity depended on its cover. Besides, the aboveground biomass was reduced in sites comprising Plantago. The degree of inhibition was not related to the seed size of the species found. This species reduced the incident solar radiation and the local temperature over the soil surface. The locations exhibiting such species contained lower contents of available potassium and zinc. Rhizosphere soil of P. lagopus substantially inhibited germination and growth of Amaranthus viridis, but it didn't do so for Medicago lupulina. Reduction in cover, diversity, and biomass of the urban weeds associated with P. lagopus may be related to the reduction of received solar radiation, soil temperature, and nutrient availability. The allelopathic potential of P. lagopus may have a partial role in this reduction. These results suggest that P. lagopus may create a microenvironment of new conditions not favorable for most of the coexisting species.

Abstract Background Side effects of antiviral therapies for hepatitis C, especially hematologic abnormalities, may decrease both therapeutic adherence and therapeutic success rate. Adherence to therapy is essential to achieve an early viral response (EVR), and this is vital for attaining a sustained viral response (SVR). Discontinuation of anti-viral therapy is the only way to prevent progressive thrombocytopenia; however, discontinuation of therapy may reduce the rate of viral clearance and SVR. Our aim is to study effects of antiviral therapy for HCV on platelet count. One hundred sixty eight adult patients with chronic hepatitis C were enrolled in this study and subcategorized into 3 groups: group (1) contains 56 patients receiving IFN, ribavirin and sofosbuvir (triple therapy); group (2) contains 55 patients receiving ribavirin and sofosbuvir (SOF/RBV); and group (3) contains 57 patients receiving simeprevir and sofosbuvir (SIM/SOF). HCV RNA by PCR were checked basically for all studied patients. Follow-up platelet count was done weekly during the first month then monthly till end of treatment. Follow-up of platelet count decrement was assessed at the 2nd week, 4th week and end of antiviral therapy for all studied groups. Results We found that in the 2nd week and 4th week, most of patients (76.2%, 71.4%) showed platelet count decrement during antiviral therapy. The decrement of platelet at the 2nd week, 4th week and at end of treatment was much noticed with the SOF/RBV antiviral therapy studied group. None of the patients developed severe thrombocytopenia; none of the patients needed to stop antiviral therapy due to thrombocytopenia, only 6 patients needed dose modification, most of them were from the triple therapy group. Conclusion We concluded that thrombocytopenia in chronic HCV infection has a multifactorial pathophysiology and remains a major problem. The recent change in direct-acting antiviral therapy (DAA) without IFN, as the frontline therapy for HCV, permit to avoid the dilemmas associated with initiating or maintaining IFN-based antiviral therapy. DAAs, with high SVR and few haematological adverse effects, have been shown to improve thrombocytopenia associated with HCV infection as well as advanced hepatic disease.

Tik Tok has become an important means of communication that affects the political, economic and cultural life of humanity. The values and ways of thinking conveyed by TikTok content greatly affect the values and principles of youth in the Arab world. TikTok has attracted a lot of attention from young people in the Arab world, especially students. TikTok is a new type of media resource with a strong connection to culture, The use of Tik Tok in the culture of the Arab world has its own uniqueness.It can be seen that there are many young users in the Arab world who are gradually becoming an important major force for the TikTok platform. At the same time, it helps them better understand and know foreign culture. It can be seen that TikTok not only meets the needs of students in the Arab world for social learning, online socialization, entertainment and entertainment, etc, but it also makes the values of students in the Arab world strongly influenced by bad and misleading information and ideas, As a mediator and transmitter of information and culture. The penetration of Tik Tok into the daily and educational lives of students in the Arab world, It has a hidden impact on students' ideological concepts, attitudes and values. The use of Tik Tok is a useful attempt to combine cultural theory, modern science and technology, international exchange and cultural communication, And it has great promotional value. Through this study, we will explore the pros and cons of using TikTok by young people in the Arab world and its impact on the social, cultural and linguistic aspects of the Arab world and in the study of the Chinese language. And knowing the opinions of some Arab and Chinese youth in the use of Tik Tok and its negative and positive effects.

Objectives: To assess the long-term safety and efficacy of the Occlutech® ACCELL® Flex II device used for atrial septal defect (ASD) closure. This device differs from the regular device by having two very thin patches that are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). These patches enhance faster sealing of the defect., Background: Transcatheter closure has become the method of choice to manage most patients with secundum ASDs. There are different types of devices. The regular Occlutech device used to close an ASD is called the Occlutech Figulla Flex II. A newer modification of this device (Occlutech® ACCELL® Flex II) has been designed to eliminate/reduce thrombus formation and to enhance faster sealing., Methods: Thirty patients were followed up after occlusion of secundum ASD using the Occlutech® ACCELL® Flex II Device. The follow-up period ranged from 5.2-5.5 years with median of 5.3 years. Detailed history and full clinical examination, twelve-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), plain chest radiograph, and full 2D transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) were performed at discharge, at one month, six months, and yearly thereafter., Results: The mean age of the study group at the last follow-up was 10.4 ± 4.6 years, with 63.3% (nineteen patients) females. Several populations of Brassica tournefortii (Brassicaceae) occurring in Egypt are investigated from the micromorphological point of view (seed ornamentations). The species is known to show a notable phenotypic plasticity and five morphotypes was identified in the past. Furthermore, a soil analysis as well as a study of the fungal species from anthers were carried out. The aim of the study is to verify the taxonomic value of the morpholotypes of B. tournefortii and their ecologic relationship with soil variables. The results obtained demonstrated that the five morphological forms can be distinguished based on the seed sculpture. The Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) exhibited a clear correlation between the soil variables and the identified forms. Six species of fungi were detected from the ecto-anthers in the Forms (F2-F4), while F1 was lacking the fungal species.
