22. Evaluating the integration of vermicompost with synthetic fertilizer and compost on mung bean (<italic>Vigna radiata</italic> L.)

Abstract

A two-year experiment was conducted at Student Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (31.4533° N, 73.0585° E) during 2020 and repeated in 2021 for the accuracy of the results. The treatments were T0 Control (recommended fertilizers at 20:60 NP kg ha−1), T1: 50% of recommended vermicompost (FYM) + 50% of recommended fertilizers, T2: 25% of recommended vermicompost (FYM) + 25% of recommended compost (FYM) + 50% of recommended fertilizers, T3: 50% of recommended vermicompost (wheat straw) + 50% of recommended fertilizers, T4: 25% of recommended vermicompost (wheat straw) + 25% of recommended compost (wheat straw) + 50% of recommended fertilizers, T5: 50% of recommended vermicompost (rice straw) + 50% of recommended fertilizers and T6: 25% of vermicompost (rice straw) + 25% of recommended compost (rice straw) + 50% of recommended fertilizers. It was concluded from this study that 50% vermicompost (produced from FYM, rice and wheat straw) mixed with 50% recommended fertilizers showed excellent results. 25% vermicompost (produced from FYM, rice and wheat straw) and 25% compost (produced from farmyard manure, rice straw and wheat straw) mixed with 50% recommended fertilizers showed intermediate results, whereas control showed minimum results in the mungbean crop and soil fertility decreased in the T0 treatment. 31. Crystallization kinetics and investigation of electrical properties of indium-incorporated Se80Te15-xSb5Inx (x = 0, 5, 10) quaternary chalcogenide glasses.

Abstract

This work reports the structural, thermal, and electrical properties of Se80Te15-xSb5Inx (x = 0, 5, 10) chalcogenide glasses. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were employed to analyze the surface and structural properties of Se80Te15-xSb5Inx (x = 0, 5, 10) glasses. XRD characterization portrays amorphous nature of Se80Te15Sb5 while Se80Te10Sb5In5 and Se80Te5Sb5In10 alloys show polycrystalline nature. SEM results show the presence of comparatively larger-sized crystallites in the indium-incorporated alloys in contrast to Se80Te15Sb5. Thermal properties of Se80Te15-xSb5Inx (x = 0, 5, 10) were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Variation of AC conductivity (σac), dielectric constant (ε′), and dielectric loss (ε″) as a function of temperature and frequency was analyzed. It has been observed that value of σac, ε′, and ε″ increases with the increase in temperature for the temperature range of 295 K-351 K. σac shows increasing trend with the increase in frequency; however, the values of ε′ and ε″ decrease with the increase in frequency for the frequency range of 100 kHz–1 MHz. Variation of frequency exponent “s” with temperature encouraged the use of correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model to interpret the AC conduction mechanism. Increasing cadmium (Cd) pollution in soil is of great concern. A pot experiment was conducted with the aim of assessing the effect of Cd on soil biological indices under potato cultivation. Abstract

This work reports the studies of AC and DC conduction in bismuth doped quaternary chalcogenide glass Se80Te15−xCd5Bix (x = 0, 5, 10). Dependence of AC conductivity (σac), dielectric constant (ϵ′) and dielectric loss (ϵ″) of glasses prepared by melt quenching technique was investigated for 100 kHz–1 MHz frequency range and 294–351 K temperature range. An increment in the values of DC and AC conductivities was observed with the addition of bismuth. Dielectric parameters were found to increase with the increase in temperature however a Decrease in the values of ϵ′ and ϵ″ was observed with the increase in frequency. Temperature dependence of σdc portrayed non-linear nature and was studied for the lower (294–317 K) and intermediate (317–351 K) temperature ranges. Values of hopping distance (Rhop) and hopping energy (Whop) suggested the use of Mott’s model to interpret the σdc data for lower temperature range. DC conduction in intermediate temperature range was interpreted by Greave’s model. The density of localised states [N(EF)] was estimated using σac and σdc data for the prepared glasses and has been found to be dependent on extent of bismuth doping. In last, an attempt to correlate the structural and phase change properties of the sample on the basis of electrical measurements were made and it was found that bismuth incorporation in chalcogenide glasses tunes the material for application in phase change memory devices. Abstract

Phosphorous (P) plays the prominent role to promote the plants storage functions and structural roles, as it is recognized as a vital component of ADP, ATP, Cell wall as well as a part of DNA. Soils acts as the sink to supply P to plants because soil pH and its physical condition are the main factor which regulate the solubility and availability P element. Phosphorus is not deficient in Pakistani soils but its availability to plants is the serious matter of concern. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate P dynamics in two different soil series of Pakistan (Bahawalpur and Lyallpur) using Maize as test crop. The treatments applied were T0: Control (without any fertilizer), T1: Recommended DAP @648 mg pot−1, T2: Half dose DAP @324 mg pot−1, T3: Recommended rate of TSP @900 mg pot−1, T4: Half dose TSP @450 mg pot−1. Soil analysis showed that Bahawalpur soil has sandy clay loam texture with 33% clay and Lyallpur series has sandy loam texture with 15.5% clay; furthermore, these soils contain 4.6 and 2.12% CaCO3, respectively. Results showed an increase in P concentration in roots (23 mg kg−1) with the application of half dose of TSP in Lyallpur series and lowest in Bahawalpur series (14.6 mg kg−1) at recommended dose of DAP. Concentration of P in shoots responded the same; increase at half dose of TSP (16.7 mg kg−1) and lowest at full dose of DAP in Bahawalpur series as (15.58 mg kg−1). Adsorbed P (17 mg kg−1) was recorded highest in Bahawalpur soil with more clay amount in pot with DAP application but lower in Lyallpur soil series (14 mg kg−1) with the application of applied TSP. The PUE was recorded highest in Lyallpur series with the application of half dose of TSP and it was 61% more than control and was Highest in Bahawalpur series was with the application of recommended dose of DAP is 72% more than control treatment.
