The investigation entitled “Effect of NAA and zinc sulphate application on fruit drop, yield and quality attributes of mulberry (Morus alba L.)” was conducted during 2018-19. Significant improvement in the leaves and fruit nutrient (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc) concentrations was obtained with the foliar sprays of zinc sulphate and NAA. Maximum N, P and K content was found with the foliar spray of zinc sulphate @ 0.4 per cent and NAA @ 60 ppm, while maximum zinc content was found with the foliar spray of zinc sulphate @ 0.6 per cent and NAA @ 60 ppm.

Indopiptadenia oudhensis (Brandis) Brenan is a threatened and an endemic legume forest tree genus of tropical moist deciduous forest of lower foothills of Himalaya. As population status of the species is declining at alarming rate, molecular characterization and germplasm conservation is urgently needed. This is the first attempt to draw its phylogeny based on molecular level and evolutionary closeness with other legumes. Among three barcode genes i.e rbcL, matK and ITS, only rbcLaF-rbcLaR gave satisfactory amplification and proved that rbcL is still working well than other barcode genes and justifies the evolutionary affinities with other legume species. Based on nucleotide homeology, the species is closely related to Prosopis cineraria and demonstrated nucleotide variation at only one site (552; A>G). Based on rbcL gene sequences and phylogeny, its evolutionary linkages found similar to the species placed in subfamilies Mimosaoideae and Caesalpiniodeae. However, researchers working on legume phylogeny clearly mentioned that Indopiptadenia is a part of clade mimosoid of Caesalpinioideae based on morphology. Hence, Indopiptadenia oudhensis may be the connecting species between subfamilies Mimosaoideae and Caesalpiniodeae.

Species diversity, especially in forests, is one of the most important indices used to evaluate forest productivity, sustainability of forest communities and its ecological functioning and stand structure. Invasive alien species (IAS) are usually considered to be the second greatest threat to biodiversity after habitat destruction. The present study aims to characterize estimate the species richness, dominance of certain species distribution and population structure of major species in the study areas i.e. Kalka, Morni and Pinjore forest range of Panchkula Forest Division, Haryana lies under the Shiwalik mountain range of Western Himalaya. To achieve this, phytosociological study was carried out using quadrat method to assess the impact of IAS on plant diversity. We took twenty quardrats laid down in each site (10×10m for tree layer; 3×3m for shrubby layer and 1×1m for herbaceous flora) in both, invaded sites and control sites (without any IAS). In the study sites, Lantana camara was the major threat to the native flora. In general, diversity index (H) was higher at control site, however, species richness was found to be more in Lantana infested sites for trees and more or less equal for herbs and shrubs in control sites. This indicates the invasion of L. camara after the establishment of tree species in study sites. In all sites, the seedlings have significant more number than saplings and trees. But the conversion of saplings into trees was poor as well as the production of seedlings and their survival rate was very less or drastically reduced. Thus, there is an urgent need of conservation and management of alien invasive species in Himalayas and other parts of Indian forests. Lantana camara infestation can be managed if we utilize it for making handmade papers, handicrafts, baskets, toys, etc. by involving the self help groups and village forest communities.

The present study describes the first successful report on in vitro propagation through direct organogenesis for multiple shoot induction of Angelica glauca. Rhizomes were used as explant, and maximum shoot multiplication was observed on MS medium supplemented with 6-Benzylaminopurine 8.0 µM and Indole-3-acetic acid 0.1 µM. Roots were observed within 14 days in the MS medium enriched with 0.5 µM IAA and 0.1 µM Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) with an average production of 4.2 roots per shoot. The genus Eucalyptus L'Heritier comprises about 900 species, of which more than 300 species contain volatile essential oil in their leaves. About 20 species, within these, have a high content of 1,8-cineole (more than 70%), commercially used for the production of essential oils in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. However, Eucalyptus is extensively planted for pulp, plywood and solid wood production, but its leaf aromatic oil has astounding widespread biological activities, including antimicrobial, antiseptic, antioxidant, chemotherapeutic, respiratory and gastrointestinal disorder treatment, wound healing, and insecticidal/insect repellent, herbicidal, acaricidal, nematicidal, and perfumes, soap making and grease remover. In the present review, we have made an attempt to congregate the biological ingredients of leaf essential oil, leaf oil as a natural medicine, and pharmacological and toxicological values of the leaf oil of different Eucalyptus species worldwide. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry.

The genus Moringa Adans. comprises 13 species, of which Moringa oleifera Lam. native to India and cultivated across the world owing to its drought and frost resistance habit is widely used in traditional phytomedicine and as rich source of essential nutrients. Wide spectrum of phytochemical ingredients among leaf, flower, fruit, seed, seed oil, bark, and root depend on cultivar, season, and locality. The scientific studies provide insights on the use of M. oleifera with different aqueous, hydroalcoholic, alcoholic, and other organic solvent preparations of different parts for therapeutic activities, that is, antibiocidal, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective, hepato-protective, neuro-protective, tissue-protective, and other biological activities with a high degree of safety. A wide variety of alkaloid and sterol, polyphenols and phenolic acids, fatty acids, flavanoids and flavanol glycosides, glucosinolate and isothiocyanate, terpene, anthocyanins etc. are believed to be responsible for the pragmatic effects. Seeds are used with a view of low-cost biosorbent and coagulant agent for the removal of metals and microbial contamination from waste water. Thus, the present review explores the use of M. oleifera across disciplines for its prominent bioactive ingredients, nutraceutical, therapeutic uses and deals with agricultural, veterinarian, biosorbent, coagulation, biodiesel, and other industrial properties of this "Miracle Tree."

In the present study, the population status on Indopiptadenia oudhensis (Brandis) was recored in the Champawat. District to know the present regeneration status. The population survey was carried out and reported here with photograph and taxonomic decription.

The genetic diversity and growth dynamics of fifty-three half-sib families of eleven provenance sources and one bulk seed mixed population of fast growing forest tree species i.e. Melia azedarach were studied at two stand ages viz., fourth year (mid-rotation) and eighth year (end-rotation) to determine the selection stage in northern India. Significant variations were reported between and within seed provenances in all growth characters at both rotational ages. The broad sense heritability was higher at mid-rotational age. This revealed the growth is genetically controlled but with the time environmental effects escort the growth pattern. Growth pattern was different at each stand age. Growth is diameter dependent and the pattern was crown growth type. Families maintained their superiority over the time for tree height, basal diameter and diameter at breast height, which indicated a strong potential to identify good performing families for future plantation program. This study concluded that early stage selection is appropriate that later stage selection for all parameters studied except clear bole height that is much influenced by management practice and environment factors also. Neighbor-joining clustering with similarity index revealed that it is not necessary that the families, originated in one region were distributed in one cluster, indicating that families with same geographic origin could have undergone changes for different characters under selection.
