Although Python has the statsmodels library that can be used to perform different statistical analyses, including multiple regression, it has not yet implemented multivariate regression as one of its methods. An investigator interested in conducting a multivariate regression is thus limited to running a series of univariate regression models, which do not take into account the collinearity among variables in the models. Thus, the purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to perform multivariate regression in Python using custom user-defined classes, and linear hypothesis testing using statsmodels.

The goals of this paper were two-fold. The first goal was to examine the emotional and social developmental value of play in the early childhood classroom. This issue is important because of the recent impetus for a more academic focus in early childhood classrooms, and questions about the developmental benefits of play. The second goal was to examine and discuss the role teachers could play in making play a developmental and educational experience. This is because understanding the significance of play could make teachers less apprehensive about using play to promote learning and development, and enable them answer questions regarding the value of play. Using these goals as a backdrop, this paper discussed views of children's play; the defining characteristics of emotional and social development; play and the socioemotional development of children; and the role of early childhood teachers in children's play.

Compared with children from more affluent families, poor children face a higher risk of developmental delays and fare worse on various measures of developmental outcomes. This paper examines the relationship between poverty and child outcomes in the Jamaican context. Specifically, the paper focuses on the detrimental consequences for poor Jamaican children. The literature is reviewed on the effects of economic disadvantage on children and the short- and long-term implications for individuals and society is discussed. In addition, the modus operandi and implications for human development utilizing a theoretical model that hypothesizes the associations among economic deprivation and various aspects of child well-being is examined. Suggestions to policy makers for addressing the issues related to economically deprived families and children are offered. (Contains 1 figure.)

Using data from the Ghana Living Standards Survey, 1991/92 and 1998/99, and the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey 1993 and 1998, this paper explores how poverty impacts the nutrition, health, and schooling of children in Ghana. The discussions reveal that poverty, nutritional/health status, and schooling are interlinked. Poverty impacts parental ability to provide adequate nutrition and health care. Childhood malnutrition, in turn, compromises child health; with child health further adversely impacting nutritional status resulting in delayed school enrollment, and poor school performance.
