Using TRIUMF's neutral atom trap, TRINAT, for nuclear $\beta$ decay, we have measured the $\beta$ asymmetry with respect to the initial nuclear spin in $^{37}\mathrm{K}$ to be $A_\beta=-0.5707(13)_\mathrm{syst}(13)_\mathrm{stat}(5)_\mathrm{pol}$, a 0.3% measurement. This is the best relative accuracy of any $\beta$-asymmetry measurement in a nucleus or the neutron, and is in agreement with the standard model prediction $-0.5706(7)$. We compare constraints on physics beyond the standard model with other $\beta$-decay measurements, and improve the value of $V_\mathrm{ud}$ measured in this mirror nucleus by a factor of 4.

The correlations of the decay products following the beta decay of nuclei have a long history of providing a low-energy probe of the fundamental symmetries of our universe. Over half a century ago, the correlation of the electrons following the decay of polarized 60Co demonstrated that parity is not conserved in weak interactions. Today, the same basic idea continues to be applied to search for physics beyond the standard model: make precision measurements of correlation parameters and look for deviations compared to their standard model predictions. The exclusive electroproduction of two pions in the mass range 0.4 < M{\pi}{\pi} < 2.5 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb-1. The analysis was carried out in the kinematic range of 2 < Q2 < 80 GeV2, 32 < W < 180 GeV and |t| < 0.6 GeV2, where Q2 is the photon virtuality, W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The two-pion invariant-mass distribution is interpreted in terms of the pion electromagnetic form factor, |F(M{\pi}{\pi})|, assuming that the studied mass range includes the contributions of the {\rho}, {\rho}' and {\rho}" vector-meson states. The masses and widths of the resonances were obtained and the Q2 dependence of the cross-section ratios {\sigma}({\rho}' \rightarrow {\pi}{\pi})/{\sigma}({\rho}) and {\sigma}({\rho}" \rightarrow {\pi}{\pi})/{\sigma}({\rho}) was extracted. The pion form factor obtained in the present analysis is compared to that obtained in e+e- \rightarrow {\pi}+{\pi}-., Comment: 24 pages, including 11 figures

We have measured the angular distribution of recoiling daughter nuclei emitted from the Gamow-Teller $\beta$ decay of spin-polarized $^{80}$Rb. The asymmetry of this distribution vanishes to lowest order in the Standard Model (SM) in pure Gamow-Teller decays, producing an observable very sensitive to new interactions. We measure the non-SM contribution to the asymmetry to be $A_{T}$= 0.015 $\pm$ 0.029 (stat) $\pm$ 0.019 (syst), consistent with the SM prediction. We constrain higher-order SM corrections using the measured momentum dependence of the asymmetry, and their remaining uncertainty dominates the systematic error. Future progress in determining the weak magnetism term theoretically or experimentally would reduce the final errors. We have set limits on contributions of scalar interactions to nuclear beta decay. A magneto-optical trap (MOT) provides a localized source of atoms suspended in space, so the low-energy recoiling nuclei can freely escape and be detected in coincidence with the beta. This allows reconstruction of the neutrino momentum, and the measurement of the beta-neutrino correlation, in a more direct fashion than previously possible. The beta-neutrino correlation parameter of the 0+ to 0+ pure Fermi decay of 38mK is $\tilde{a}$=0.9981+-0.0030+-0.0037, consistent with the standard model prediction a=1., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Phys. Calculations of the polarization of $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ particles after fragmentation of a polarized quark produced in processes like $Z$-decay and deep inelastic polarized lepton scattering must include $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ produced as decay products of $\Sigma^0$ and $\Sigma^*$ as well as those produced directly. These decay contributions are significant and not feasibly included in theoretical calculations based on QCD without additional input from other experimental data. Furthermore these contributions depend on the spin structure of the $\Sigma^0$ or $\Sigma^*$ and are not directly related to the structure function of the $\Lambda$, Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

We calculate the polarization of Lambda and Anti-Lambda particles produced in deep inelastic polarized lepton scattering. We use two models: the naive quark model and a model in which SU(3)$_F$ symmetry is used to deduce the spin structure of SU(3) octet hyperons from that of the proton. We perform the calculations for Lambda and Anti-Lambda produced directly or as decay products of $\Sigma^0$ and $\Sigma^*$., Comment: 12 pages, 1 figure

We present asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons in Fermilab experiment E791 as a function of xF and pt**2. The data used here consist of 74,000 fully-reconstructed charmed mesons produced by a 500 GeV/c pi- beam on C and Pt foils. The measurements are compared to results of models which predict differences between the production of heavy-quark mesons that have a light quark in common with the beam (leading particles) and those that do not (non-leading particles). While the default models do not agree with our data, we can reach agreement with one of them, PYTHIA, by making a limited number of changes to parameters used.

The strange-anticharmed Pentaquark is a $uud\bar{c}s$ or $udd\bar{c}s$ five-quark baryon that is expected to be either a narrow resonance, or possibly even stable against strong and electromagnetic decay. We describe this hyperon here, its structure, binding energy and lifetime, resonance width, production mechanisms, production cross sections, and decay modes. We describe techniques to reduce backgrounds in search experiments and to optimize the conditions for Pentaquark observation. Possibilities for enhancing the signal over background in Pentaquark searches are investigated by examining predictions for detailed momentum and angular distributions in multiparticle final states. General model-independent predictions are presented as well as those from two models: a loosely bound $D_{s}^-N$ molecule and a strongly-bound five-quark system. Fermilab E791 data, currently being analyzed, may have marginal statistics for showing definitive signals.
