Background: High level evidence for direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis is lacking. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of DOACs versus vitamin K antagonists in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis. Methods: This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021228800). We searched MEDLINE (via Ovid), EMBASE, CINAHL, and the Web of Science Core Collection between January 1, 2007 and Feb 22, 2022. Search terms included a combination of keywords and controlled vocabulary terms for cerebral venous thrombosis, vitamin K antagonists/warfarin, and DOACs. We included both randomized and nonrandomized studies that compared vitamin K antagonists and DOACs in 5 or more patients with cerebral venous thrombosis. Where studies were sufficiently similar, we performed meta-analyses for efficacy (recurrent venous thromboembolism and complete recanalization) and safety (major hemorrhage) outcomes, using relative risks (RRs). Results: Out of 10 665 records identified, we screened 254 as potentially eligible. Nineteen studies (16 observational studies [n=1735] and 3 randomized controlled trials [n=215]) met the inclusion criteria. All 3 randomized controlled trials had some concerns, and all 16 observational studies had at least moderate risk of bias. When compared with vitamin K antagonist treatment, DOAC had comparable risks of recurrent venous thromboembolism (relative risk [RR], 0.85 [95% CI, 0.52–1.37], I 2 =0%), major hemorrhage (RR, 0.70 [95% CI, 0.40–1.21], I 2 =0%), intracranial hemorrhage (RR, 0.58 [95% CI, 0.30–1.12]; I 2 =0%), death (RR, 1.14 [95% CI, 0.54–2.43], I 2 =1%), and complete venous recanalization (RR, 0.98 [95% CI, 0.87–1.11]; I 2 =0%). Conclusions: This systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis, DOACs, and warfarin may have comparable efficacy and safety. Given the limitations of the studies included (low number of randomized controlled trials, modest total sample size, rare outcome events), our findings should be interpreted with caution pending confirmation by ongoing randomized controlled trials and large, prospective, observational studies.

Nematodes are an integral part of soil biodiversity and play a vital role in soil nutrient cycling. The Himalayan mountainous ecosystems are amongst the extreme environments in the world. Still little is known about the diversity and distribution patterns of soil nematodes along the elevation gradient in the region, thus limiting our ability in understanding and comparing the structural patterns of nematode communities across different regions. To address this knowledge gap, we aim to disentangle the elevational patterns of soil nematode community structure and trophic diversity by studying the abundance, composition, diversity and functional indices, and metabolic footprint of soil nematodes at four elevation classes (Elev1, Elev2, Elev3, and Elev4 each being 400 m) along an altitudinal gradient (1,000–2,600 m) in the Trikuta mountain range of Pir-Panjal to Shivalik Himalaya. Overall, a total of 55 genera were found in the study region. The diversity and richness of soil nematodes varied significantly among the elevation classes, and exhibit a decreasing trend with elevation. Also, the nematode community composition varied significantly among the elevation classes along the elevational gradient. The bacterivores were the dominant trophic group at each elevation class. Further, the soil properties played a key role in explaining the changes in the nematode community composition across the elevation classes. Moreover, the total nematode, bacterivore and herbivore abundances showed an increasing trend, while as that of fungivores and predators exhibit a negative trend with elevation. In addition, a declining pattern in the overall maturity and metabolic footprint with elevation was observed, thus depicting the lower sustenance of k-strategic nematodes and their relatively lower contribution to belowground carbon cycling at higher elevations. The finding of our study could enhance our understanding of the overall community structure and diversity patterns of soil nematode along the elevation gradient, and the response of soil nematodes to ongoing climate change in the rapidly warming Himalayas.

Reducing connection time while drilling has been a critical task in any drilling operation to reduce both the rig costs and the risks of wellbore instability. One way of reducing the connection time is to decrease the survey times. This paper shows a novel way to accomplish this by using a two-fold approach: an enhanced bottom-hole assembly (BHA) start-up procedure and secondly, a modified algorithm on the mud-pulse telemetry (MPT) uplink decoding software.The enhanced measurement-while-drilling (MWD) BHA start-up procedure focuses on various process steps during the flow-off and flow-on phases. Start-up is, historically, a sequential process. The enhanced start-up procedure uses parallelized discovery of components (nodes) in the BHA, accelerated directional survey calculation, and dynamic rather than static timing of handshaking between nodes.The MPT uplink (the communication of downhole information to surface) decoding improvement focuses on identifying delays in the signal processing chain. The detection of the MPT uplink synchronization sequence with an enhanced correlation approach shows the biggest potential in delay reduction.The latest fleet of MWD BHAs contain an implementation of the new approach, successfully deployed for multiple customer wells in the US, Saudi Arabia, China and Mexico. These wells cover multiple well types, e.g. unconventional, hard rock and high-temperature. In total, deployment of BHAs containing the new approach in over 125 wells achieved an average of 25% reduction in survey times. These deployments have not shown compromised survey quality or decoding capabilities. Rather, the robustness of the synchronization sequence permits, in some cases, going on-bottom and drilling before synchronizing the uplink. Specifically, this has given customers the potential to drill miles-a-day wells more frequently.An additional advantage of the reduced latency in the MPT uplink is that all MWD or logging-while-drilling (LWD) data is available earlier rather than later, thus allowing more timely decisions and in the end reducing risk.

Introduction: Stroke secondary to intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAD) results in three distinct infarct patterns: (a) border zone infarcts (BZI) due to impaired distal perfusion (b) territorial infarcts due to distal plaque/thrombus embolization, and (c) perforator infarcts due to plaque progression. Previous studies indicate higher stroke recurrence in ICAD patients with BZI. Methods: This registered systematic review (CRD42021265230) comprised Medline and Web of Science search from inception to March 2022 for keywords (Intracranial Atherosclerosis OR Intracranial Stenosis) AND (Border zone OR Infarct Pattern) to identify papers and conference abstracts reporting initial infarct patterns and recurrence rates in patients with symptomatic ICAD. Sensitivity analyses were performed for studies including any BZI vs isolated BZI and those excluding posterior circulation strokes. The study outcome included neurological deterioration and/or stroke recurrence. For all outcome events, corresponding risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Risk of bias assessments will be presented. Results: Literature search yielded 4478 studies,11 met inclusion criteria (n=1315 patients, 354 with BZI, weighted proportions summarized in figure). The meta-analysis of these studies with moderate heterogeneity (I 2 =38.7%) demonstrated that RR of outcomes in BZI group compared to non-BZI group was 2.10 (95% CI 1.52-2.90). Limiting analysis to studies including any BZI, RR (and 95% CI) was 2.32 (1.58-3.40), and 3.25 (2.09-5.07) for studies only including anterior circulation strokes with low heterogeneity for both (I 2 =0%). A non-significantly high outcome rate was seen with isolated BZI (RR 2.29, 95% CI 0.94-5.62) but with moderate heterogeneity across studies (I 2 =70.25%). Conclusion: We demonstrate the presence of BZI secondary to symptomatic ICAD can be imaging biomarker to predict neurological deterioration and/or stroke recurrence.

Rhizospheric soils and corms of Crocus sativus L. accommodate 13 different nematode taxa in the saffron fields of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Out of which, three are identified as free-living, two predatory and eight plant-parasitic. Among free-living, predatory and plant-parasitic nematodes Acrobeles spp., Mononchus spp. and Helicotylenchus spp. respectively were the most frequently and densely available nematodes with high prominence value. Shannon diversity index (H′ = 2.43) and evenness index (J = 0.95) determined that Crocus sativus L. rhizosphere in Kishtwar is rich in terms of nematode diversity.

Salmonella genus represents most common food borne pathogens isolated from food producing animals and is responsible for causing zoonotic infections in humans and other animal species, including birds. As a result, Salmonella diseases are among the most common problems for the humans, animals, and food industry around the world. Despite rising attention about other pathogens, Salmonella continues to be the most prominent cause of food borne disease worldwide. Salmonella can be transferred to humans at any point along the farm-to-fork chain, most commonly through infected animal-derived foods such as poultry and poultry related products (eggs), pork, fish, and so on. Some Salmonella serotypes have been confined to a single serovar and are known as “host-restricted” while the others have a wide host spectral range and are known as “host-adapted” serotypes. Globally Salmonella infection causes huge mortality and the infection plays a huge role in immune response by evolving multiple mechanism to subvert immunity to its own benefit. Numerous infectivity markers and determinants have indeed been reported to play essential role in Salmonella pathogenesis to colonize its host by invading and avoiding the host’s intestinal shielding system.

The importance of traditional and indigenous knowledge is acknowledged on a worldwide scale for its coexistence principles and sustainable use techniques. In view of this, the present study is an attempt to document the ethno-veterinary plants used by the tribal communities of Western Himalaya. This study also provides the scientific validation of herbal medicines used in ethno-veterinary practices through a reverse pharmacological approach. A total of 59 informants were selected through a non-probability sampling method. Detailed information on the medicinal plants used in ethno-veterinary practices along with their habits and habitats, part/s used, remedy preparation methods, additives/ingredients used during preparation and administration, dosages administered, and route of administration was collected. Data was analyzed for the Relative Frequency of Citations (RFC), Use Values (UV), Informant Consensus Factor (ICF), and Jaccard Index (JI). Further, a reverse pharmacological approach was used for scientific validations of the documented herbal knowledge of plant species. During the study, 56 plant species belonging to 54 genera and 39 families were documented. Asteraceae was the dominant family followed by Lamiaceae, Amaranthaceae and Fabaceae. Life forms were dominated by herbaceous species and leaves were the most common plant parts used. The highest Relative Frequency of Citations (RFC) and Use Values (UV) were recorded for Brassica rapa L. (Brassicaceae). The Pearson correlation coefficient between RFC and UV shows a strong positive correlation between the proportion of uses of a plant species within a sample of informants and the number of times that a particular use of a plant species was mentioned by the informant. Studies of the biological activity of ethno-veterinary plants can provide clues of promising leads for the isolation and identification of useful compounds that may be developed into pharmaceuticals for human welfare.

Nematodes are the most diverse and highly significant group of soil-inhabiting microorganisms that play a vital role in organic material decomposition and nutrient recycling. Diverse geographical locations and environmental gradients show a significant impact on the diversity of nematodes. Present study aims to assess the effects of ecological (altitude, temperature, moisture) and edaphic (soil pH, nutrients, soil patches) factors on the soil nematode diversity and structure at five different landscape patches (forests, apple orchards, rice fields, pastures, and alpine zone) from ten different sites of Kashmir valley (India). Differences in the altitudinal gradients results in the shift of generic nematode population. Among the soil patches, highest nematode diversity was observed in forest soil and least in alpine soil; however, bacteriovorous nematodes dominated all the soil patches. The temperature and moisture have a significant effect on nematode diversity, the highest nematode trophic levels were observed above 21°C temperature, and 30% moisture. Nematode abundance decreased from alkaline to acidic pH of the soil. Soil nutrients such as, nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) have shown a detrimental effect in nematode richness at each site, where nematode diversity and richness of genera were higher at abundant soil N and P but decreased at low soil nutrients. Ecological indices like diversity index (DI), Shannon-Wiener Index (H'), enrichment index (EI), and maturity Index (MI) values demonstrated forest soil more favourable for nematodes and high soil health status than other soil patches. This study suggested that these indices may be helpful as soil monitoring tools and assessing ecosystem sustainability and biodiversity.

The change in climatic conditions is the major cause for decline in crop production worldwide. Decreasing crop productivity will further lead to increase in global hunger rate. Climate change results in environmental stress which has negative impact on plant-like deficiencies in growth, crop yield, permanent damage, or death if the plant remains in the stress conditions for prolonged period. Cold stress is one of the main abiotic stresses which have already affected the global crop production. Cold stress adversely affects the plants leading to necrosis, chlorosis, and growth retardation. Various physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses under cold stress have revealed that the cold resistance is more complex than perceived which involves multiple pathways. Like other crops, legumes are also affected by cold stress and therefore, an effective technique to mitigate cold-mediated damage is critical for long-term legume production. Earlier, crop improvement for any stress was challenging for scientific community as conventional breeding approaches like inter-specific or inter-generic hybridization had limited success in crop improvement. The availability of genome sequence, transcriptome, and proteome data provides in-depth sight into different complex mechanisms under cold stress. Identification of QTLs, genes, and proteins responsible for cold stress tolerance will help in improving or developing stress-tolerant legume crop. Cold stress can alter gene expression which further leads to increases in stress protecting metabolites to cope up the plant against the temperature fluctuations. Moreover, genetic engineering can help in development of new cold stress-tolerant varieties of legume crop. This paper provides a general insight into the “omics” approaches for cold stress in legume crops.

Background Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a particular regional concern because of endemicity in Afghanistan and many neighboring countries. The prevalence of CCHF has been increasing in this region. These concerns are compounded because there is no vaccine or therapeutic for CCHF and Afghanistan lacks adequate public health infrastructure in preventing, detecting, and containing cases. This investigation aimed to study the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory features of CCHF in Afghanistan that might be useful in prevention and case detection, particularly in a limited resource setting. Method A descriptive and analytic retrospective study of epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory features of confirmed patients (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-positive for CCHF) who were admitted to referral infectious center of Afghanistan from March 2017, to December 2018, was carried out. Results There were 51 ELISA-confirmed CCHF patients, comprised of 14 females and 37 males. The mean age was 30 years of age, and there were 11 deaths. The case fatality rate (CFR) was 21.6% and was not significant between sexes (p = 0.8). Most cases were recorded from June to September, which is the period containing Eid-al-Adha. With regard to occupation, 13.7% and 11.8% of subjects were butchers and shepherds, respectively. The leading clinical manifestations were fever, hemorrhage, and myalgia. The mean time between onset of symptoms and admission to the hospital was 4.9 days in recovered cases and 4.7 days for expired cases. Conclusion The prevalence of CCHF is increasing in Afghanistan. The majority of cases visited the hospital during the late phase of infection. This delay can negatively affect the efficacy of treatment and lead to severe health outcomes. Our findings reveal that impaired Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), hemorrhagic manifestations (including epistaxis), and impaired consciousness were factors associated with a higher mortality rate. These biomarkers may provide a clue to possible early effective interventions and increasing the chance of survival of the patients.

Introduction: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have emerged as a potential anticoagulant therapy for patients with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT). We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing DOACs versus vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for treatment of CVT. Methods: We registered the review in PROSPERO (registration number CRD42021228800). We searched Medline, Embase, CINAHL, and the Web of Science Core Collection from January 1, 2007, to May 26, 2021. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized comparative studies (NRCSs) evaluating key outcomes for efficacy (recurrent venous thromboembolism [VTE] and complete recanalization) and safety (major hemorrhage). We assessed risk of bias using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0 (for RCTs) and the ROBINS-I tool (for NRCSs). Where studies were sufficiently similar, we performed meta-analyses using random-effects models. This review was funded by Brown Neurology. Results: Of 8213 identified records,10 studies (1 RCT and 9 NRCSs) with a total of 662 patients (33% DOAC and 67% VKAs) met the inclusion criteria. We will present our risk of bias assessment at the conference. DOACs and VKAs had comparable efficacy: recurrent VTE (risk ratio [RR] 1.00, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.44-2.23; I 2 =0%; 10 studies) and complete recanalization (RR 1.00, 95% CI 0.77-1.28; I 2 =0%; 6 studies). DOAC and VKA also had comparable safety: major hemorrhage (RR 0.89, 95% CI 0.37-2.14; I 2 =0%; 9 studies). Conclusions: Studies comparing DOACs with VKAs in patients with CVT consist mostly of small, non-randomized, poorly controlled studies. While the two treatments appear comparable for major efficacy and safety outcomes, large, rigorously conducted studies, preferably randomized, are needed to overcome these limitations and permit development of clinical practice guidelines for the use of DOACs in patients with CVT.

Introduction: Anemia has been linked to delayed cerebral ischemia and worse outcome in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). However, the association of hemoglobin (Hb) trend on outcomes has not been well studied. We sought to determine predictors of Hb trend and its association with outcomes in aSAH. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients with aSAH who were admitted to an academic center from 2016 through 2021. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with Hb difference from admission to discharge (continuous variable). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to test the association of Hb values (on admission, discharge, trend and difference from admission to discharge) with outcome measures including vasospasm (based on transcranial Doppler criteria) and worse functional outcome defined as modified Rankin scale (mRS) 4-6 at 3 months after discharge. Results: We included 312 patients with confirmed aneurysmal etiology (mean age 57 years, SD13.6; 62% female; 70% white). Mean Hb on admission was 13.5 g/dl (SD 1.7) and on discharge was 11.1 g/dl (SD 2). Forty-three patients (14%) required blood transfusions. Greater Hb drop from admission to discharge was independently associated with higher risk of vasospasm (OR 1.16, 95% CI 1.02-1.30; p=0.018) but not worse outcome after adjustment for age, sex, Hb on admission, Hunt and Hess grades, modified Fisher scales. Predictors of Hb drop on multiple linear regression analysis were lower Hb on admission (beta=0.61, p Conclusions: Greater hemoglobin drop was associated with higher risk of vasospasm but unlike lower Hb at discharge, it was not associated with worse outcome. Further studies are needed to use Hb trend to guide transfusion threshold in these patients.

Background Screening for diabetes distress is recommended when caring for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in primary healthcare (PHC). The 5-item Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID-5) scale is widely used to measure diabetes distress, but its Arabic validation studies are scarce, so this study was carried to assess the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the PAID-5 (AR-PAID-5) in Egyptian PHC patients with T2DM. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study including 260 participants from six rural PHC settings in Ismailia governorate, Egypt. Internal consistency using Cronbach’s α and one-month test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were investigated. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the one-factor structure of the AR-PAID-5. Correlations of the AR-PAID-5 with the Arabic versions of the 20-item Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID), Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD-7), 5-item World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5) scales and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were investigated for supporting the convergent validity. Associations of the PAID-5 with sociodemographic, and clinical characteristics were assessed for demonstrating the discriminant validity. Criterion validity was also evaluated. Results There was a good internal consistency (α = 0.88) and a stable test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.74). The CFA confirmed the one-factor structure of the AR-PAID-5. Significant positive correlations existed between the AR-PAID-5 with diabetes distress evaluated by the Arabic version of the PAID (rho = 0.93, p p p p p = 0.003). A satisfactory discriminant validity, and an acceptable criterion validity were demonstrated. Conclusions The AR-PAID-5 scale is a reliable and valid tool that can be used for diabetes distress screening and in research in Arabic speaking PHC patients with T2DM.

Plant resources have been used by humans for their wellbeing for ages. Tribal communities live in far flung areas in close proximity with forests and have a rich cultural heritage and traditional knowledge of forest resources. The present study was carried out in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir to document the traditional knowledge of plant usage and local perception towards biodiversity conservation. A total of 86 informants were selected through non-probability sampling using a convenience sampling method based on easy access, availability and relevance of informants. During the present study, a total of 92 plant species belonging to 85 genera and 57 families were recorded. Fabaceae and Rosaceae were found to be dominant families. In terms of growth forms, herbaceous species were dominant, followed by trees. Leaves were the most common parts used, followed by fruits. These plant species are used for different purposes such as medicine, edibles, fodder and dye making. A number of plant species were found to be multipurpose in use. Most of the documented plant species are collected by local people from the wild. Local people perceived that the populations of many species, such as Dolomiaea costus, Dioscorea deltoidea and Dolomiaea macrocephala, have declined in recent decades. Climate change, urbanization, deforestation, pollution, overexploitation and species invasion are some of the major threats to biodiversity perceived by the local people. Therefore, the establishment of protected areas and cultivation of wild species are recommended to safeguard forest wealth of the area. Furthermore, mass awareness and cooperation-building programs are highly recommended so that locals can enthusiastically participate in conservation and management programs.

Plants are affected by various environmental stresses such as high or low temperatures, drought, and high salt levels, which can disrupt their normal cellular functioning and impact their growth and productivity. These stressors offer a major constraint to the morphological, physiological, and biochemical parameters; thereby attributing serious complications in the growth of crops such as rice, wheat, and corn. Considering the strategic and intricate association of soil microbiota, known as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), with the plant roots, PGPR helps plants to adapt and survive under changing environmental conditions and become more resilient to stress. They aid in nutrient acquisition and regulation of water content in the soil and also play a role in regulating osmotic balance and ion homeostasis. Boosting key physiological processes, they contribute significantly to the alleviation of stress and promoting the growth and development of plants. This review examines the use of PGPR in increasing plant tolerance to different stresses, focusing on their impact on water uptake, nutrient acquisition, ion homeostasis, and osmotic balance, as well as their effects on crop yield and food security.

The prevalence of frailty, which is significantly associated with late-life suicidality, increases with age in older adults. This review addresses the compiled evidence on the relationship between suicidality and frailty within older populations, explores the latest findings, weighs the effectiveness of various intervention strategies, and outlines potential future investigations in this area. Growing evidence suggests that identifying and addressing risk factors, including mood disorders, prior suicide attempts, poor physical health, and social isolation/problems can decrease the risk of late-in-life suicide. Various studies have shown that interventions such as diet improvements, cognitive training, psychosocial programs, and depression medication could reduce the severity of frailty and suicidality, with physical exercise being the most effective intervention. Combined programs with multiple interventions can have an even greater impact on combating depression, lowering risk of falls, and improving gait speed in older adults.

In cotton-wheat cropping system of Pakistan, wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) is harvested in late April; however, the optimum sowing time of Bt cotton is mid-March. This indicates a time difference of 4-6 weeks between the harvest of wheat and cotton sowing. It is hypothesized that this overlapping period may be managed by transplanting cotton seedlings (30-45 days old) in late April, after the harvest of wheat due to better performance of already established seedlings. To this end, this study was conducted to evaluate the allometric traits and fiber quality of transplanted Bt cotton after harvesting wheat in the cotton-wheat cropping system. The Bt cotton-wheat cropping systems were flat sown wheat (FSW)-conventionally tilled cotton, FSW-zero tilled cotton, ridge sown wheat-ridge transplanted cotton using 30- and 45-days-old seedlings, and bed sown wheat (BSW)-bed transplanted cotton (BTC) also using 30- and 45-days-old seedlings. The study was conducted at Vehari and Multan in Punjab, Pakistan. Bt cotton in BSW-BTC with 45-days-old seedlings showed better performance for allometric (leaf area index; (LAI), net assimilation rate; (NAR), and crop growth rate; (CGR)), seed cotton yield, and fiber traits (fiber uniformity, fiber length, fiber strength, and fiber fineness) in comparison to other treatments. Most of the fiber quality traits were positively correlated with allometric traits and biological yield (dry matter yield at maturity) at both locations, except correlations of CGR and LAI with fiber fineness and fiber length and NAR with fiber length. As plant growth and fiber quality of transplanted cotton was significantly higher than conventionally grown cotton, our data indicate transplanting is an interesting management practice for improving productivity in wheat-cotton cropping systems. Soil nematodes contribute to nutrient cycling. This year-long study aimed to investigate the changes in the diversity of soil nematodes during the spring, summer, and winter seasons in rice fields at 24 sites and to determine the indicator nematode genera that inhibit the roots of rice plants. A total of 216 soil samples were collected during three seasons, and the collection of 72 root samples was carried out during rice cropping. Forty-four soil nematode genera were identified. They exhibited significant changers in their abundance, which were dependent on the seasons and on soil characteristics. In particular, the abundance of plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) and free-living soil nematodes was 49% and 15% higher during the summer than during the spring and winter seasons, respectively. Soil characteristics, such as soil nitrogen (N) contents, carbon (C) contents, and soil moisture were significantly higher during the summer than in the spring and winter seasons, but soil pH was significantly lower during the summer than in the spring and winter seasons. Moreover, Hirschmanniella, Meloidogyne, and Heterodera emerged as good indicators for rice root inhibition, corroborating the frequency, density, and prominence value of PPNs of the sampled soil and rice roots. This study also indicated that free-living nematode genera, such as Rhabdolaimus, Diplogaster, and Rhabditis, might function as ecological indicators for soil health.

Myxobacteria are unicellular, Gram-negative, soil-dwelling, gliding bacteria that belong to class δ-proteobacteria and order Myxococcales. They grow and proliferate by transverse fission under normal conditions, but form fruiting bodies which contain myxospores during unfavorable conditions. In view of the escalating problem of antibiotic resistance among disease-causing pathogens, it becomes mandatory to search for new antibiotics effective against such pathogens from natural sources. Among the different approaches, Myxobacteria, having a rich armor of secondary metabolites, preferably derivatives of polyketide synthases (PKSs) along with non-ribosomal peptide synthases (NRPSs) and their hybrids, are currently being explored as producers of new antibiotics. The Myxobacterial species are functionally characterized to assess their ability to produce antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antimalarial, immunosuppressive, cytotoxic and antioxidative bioactive compounds. In our study, we have found their compounds to be effective against a wide range of pathogens associated with the concurrence of different infectious diseases.

We present a case of 30 years old female with a parasagittal sinus meningioma, our surgical, technique and the successful outcome.

Abiotic stresses such as temperature (high/low), drought, salinity, and others make the environment hostile to plants. Abiotic stressors adversely affect plant growth and development; and thereby makes a direct impact on overall plant productivity. Plants confront stress by developing an internal defense system orchestrated by compatible solutes, reactive oxygen species scavengers and phytohormones. However, routine exposure to unpredictable environmental stressors makes it essential to equip plants with a system that contributes to sustainable agricultural productivity, besides imparting multi-stress tolerance. The sustainable approach against abiotic stress is accomplished through breeding of tolerant cultivars. Though eco-friendly, tedious screening and crossing protocol limits its usage to overcome stress and in attaining the goal of global food security. Advancement on the technological front has enabled adoption of genomic engineering approaches to perform site-specific modification in the plant genome for improving adaptability, increasing the yield and in attributing resilience against different stressors. Of the different genome editing approaches, CRISPR/Cas has revolutionized biological research with wider applicability to crop plants. CRISPR/Cas emerged as a versatile tool in editing genomes for desired traits in highly accurate and precise manner. The present study summarizes advancement of the CRISPR/Cas genome editing tool in its adoption to manipulate plant genomes for novel traits towards developing high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties.
