Panel 1-3. It's the theme of Superman. Democrats look up in the sky and think they see a bird. Republicans think it is a plane. Actually, its a bunch of lawyer vultures carrying briefcases. It's what happens with elections are deadlocked.

If a woman chooses to have an abortion because the fetus turns out to be the wrong sex, that's legal in this country. It fits under the ruling of protecting the life of the mother. I think the cartoon was rejected because it was too harsh.

Hebrews 12:1 ...the writer is talking about the cloud of witnesses...people who have made great sacrifices for new life in Christ, who see things that surround us today as acts of sinfulness. Such a scene might be happening now. The cartoon was probably rejected because it was mixing religion and politics.

Abortion cartoons are sometimes tough to get by editors. This cartoon was probably thought of as too graphic" for our readers. I knew it wouldn't fly, but sometimes I get surprised at what my bosses allow to get in their paper. The Democrat party favors abortion rights, big time. "

Panel 1-4. Colorado is at the forefront of the nation when it comes to legalizing abortion, allowing fetal tissue transplants from aborted babies, and allowing euthanasia through starvation. This is a reminder that blood is most red in Colorado. The cartoon was probably rejected because it was too graphic. Abortion clinics don't pollute our rivers with the blood coming from their operations.

Panel 1-4. I think the close-up shot of a condom got this cartoon rejected. Public school health teachers seem to be sending mixed messages to our children. They are teaching them to stay away from drugs, booze and smoking because those are bad for you, but then encourage them to experiment with sex when they provide school kids with free condoms.

Panel 1. An abortion doctor tells his/her patient that she/he is very supportive of a woman's right to choose. Panel 2. Then the doctor offers the patient a choice. Would she like to have the little parasite, inside her, dismembered or by using a Saline solution? (A late-term abortion Doctor in Colorado considered unwanted, unborn babies as "parasites"). It think this cartoon was a bit tough for my bosses taste.

Spectors of death might see this as good news. The Colorado City Council is considering a gay rights ordinance to protect gay people's activities. Homosexual behavior and the dreaded disease of Aids have been linked and deaths, from aids, have been declining. It seems the city council might be contributing to an upsurge of deaths by passing the ordinance. The cartoon was rejected, probably, because it was speculative. Plus, it's a very sensitive topic.

Panel 1-8. Capital punishment cases in U.S.Courts have grown very complicated and tiresome. The appeals process seem to be endless. This cartoon points out the problem of the endless process seems to be cruel and unusual in itself. My bosses must have thought the cartoon was too complicated for readers to understand.

President Ronald Reagan's Secretary of the Interior, James Watt, was hated by the left and was often a target of their arrows. It brought to my mind a famous Renaissance painting by Andrea Mantegna of St. Sebastian, a suffering Catholic servant. Watt famously said, "If you want to see the failure of Communism, just go to our Indian Reservations". I agreed with that statement. I think my bosses thought the imagery was a bit too obscure for their readers.

At one point, in my cartooning career, someone actually suggested this idea. If people actually saw an execution on TV they probably would change their minds on capital punishment. I don't consider abortion to be murder. I think it is a court-approved legal execution. Maybe if people actually saw a late-term abortion, it might change their view on the issue. Who knows? This cartoon was rejected because it was too offensive to the newspaper's readers.

In Colorado Springs there were many Peace marchers protesting troops being sent to foreign lands. True Pacifists reject wars for any reason, including for self defense. Here I have shown a robber getting in bed with a pacifist's wife. Another robber is stealing his child. Would he try to engage the robbers with meaningful dialogue? I think my bosses thought this cartoon was over-the-top "nasty". That's probably why it was rejected.

Panel 1-3. This cartoon was probably rejected because it's a bit confusing. A judge in Colorado Springs ordered a feeding tube removed from a lady who was on life support. It's one of those hard cases. People in the newsroom thought the pro-lifers, who were protesting the decision, should let the judge and family decide. It turns out the media, at the time, were giving a lot of ink to a rape case, that I thought should have been handled more privately. My editors always win when it comes to what they want to put in their paper.

The Supreme Court ruled (8-1) on May 24, 1983, that nonprofit private universities that prescribe and enforce racially discriminatory admission standards on the basis of religious doctrine do not qualify as tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. It was a hard-fought, complicated case. It seemed to me that the state was chipping away the memory of Patrick Henry's strong statement of liberty and death. I think the cartoon was rejected because it was a bit too complicated for readers to understand.

Panel 1-4. A pregnant woman is ironing and listening to Vice President George H.W. Bush explain his position on the life issue. He keeps adding conditions which would make abortion acceptable in his view. The unborn baby hears enough of these exclusions and starts to believe that Bush really IS a wimp. The cartoon was rejected because my bosses didn't see the humor. Unborn babies can't talk or reason. They are probably right about that.

Panel 1-4. It's a poem, of sorts. It's about euthanasia, abortion and life. In my biblical, world view, I think we will be judged eventually by REAL Truth. I think this cartoon was a little over-the-top, "religious-wise" for my bosses to publish it. Plus it depicts a fetus.

Panel 1-4. It shows that Colorado is leading the charge throughout the nation in legalizing death. Colorado was the first to legalize abortion, first in allowing fetal tissue transplants and the first to legalize euthanasia by starvation. The grave grows deeper with each death-legalizing event. The cartoon was rejected, probably, because it would be seen at too depressing to our readers.

News item: Colorado Springs Police find evidence of a witches gathering where a house cat was executed by hanging. At the same time, the ACLU won a court case in Rhode Island where a witches coven was allowed tax deductions for their worship ceremonies. I thought the cartoon was funny. Obviously, my bosses did not. Hey, it's their paper. They don't tell me what I should think. I don't tell them what they should print. That's how it works in the newsroom.

Panel 1. President Bill Clinton likes to quote scripture in many of his speeches. He belongs to the Baptist Church. Most Baptists do not agree with his wild sex life and support for abortion and gay rights. Panel 2. Maybe he is a Baptist like the lewd singer, named, Madonna, is a Catholic. Probably this cartoon was seen as too judgmental. [also see image 448-3118]

Panel 1. Iraq's dictator, Saddam Hussein, ordered his troops to take the neighboring country of Kuwait. President George H.W. Bush planned to stop that move. Hussein actually said, "I'll give up Kuwait when the U.S. gives up California". 2. President Bush might consider giving up the liberal mecca of San Francisco. I thought it was a funny line but my bosses didn't. Humor is a funny thing. "

The cartoon was probably rejected because the message was too vulgar for our readers. Kissing someone's behind is not a nice thing to say (or even think about). However, I thought President Bill Clinton, his lawyers and the judge gave sexual harassment victim, Paula Jones, just that message when she finally had her day in court.

Panel 1-2. Media and Hollywood are always pushing the limit on violence and sex they show in their programs. Many parents do not want their children to watch such shows. People in the media think, if they give "fair" warning, they should be able to produce the shows they want and the parents should control the programs their children can watch. Actually, if enough parents agree to boycott sponsors of the programs, media folks might pay more attention. The cartoon was probably rejected because it seemed to advocate for boycotts. It's a difference between libertarian and conservative philosophy, I guess.

Panel 1-6. Uncle Sam is on the couch taking a mental health examination. Polls show most American people do not support the idea of children having sex outside of marriage, abortion being used as birth control or parents not taking care of their children. Yet, American entertainers, school counselors and child care programs seem to encourage that kind of behavior. Uncle Sam believes he is protecting the "Rights" of those people. The doctor thinks he's sicker than he thought. My editors probably rejected the cartoon because they thought it had "mixed messages". They were probably right.

Black Panther co-founder, Huey Newton, was found dead. The Black Panther's were known for violent behavior but considered themselves to the "Activists". I was trying to make a comparison between the teen violence, we see in the cities, and the soft treatment the liberal media people give to violence perpetrated by so-called, "activists". I think my bosses rejected the cartoon because my message was too confusing.

Panel 1-2. Palestinian terrorists often use children as shields in warfare. The liberal media like to focus on innocent people getting killed or wounded in the crossfire. I really can't remember why this cartoon was rejected by my bosses at the newspaper. Perhaps the message wasn't clear enough.

After the Communist takeover in Vietnam many desperate citizens were trying to escape persecution. They crowded onto boats and tried to sail to freedom. We called them "boat people". Now there is hope for "low-income, abort people". The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Hyde Amendment which would prevent the use of taxpayer money to fund abortions. Perhaps the cartoon was rejected because it depicted unborn babies and it was a bit complicated for their newspaper subscribers to understand.

Manuel Antonio Noriega, the brash former dictator of Panama and sometime ally of the United States and drug trafficker, becomes a target for justice of the U.S. State Department. He finds safety and sanctuary in the Catholic Church. He's like a rat hiding from a cat. Perhaps this cartoon was rejected because it seemed too critical of the foreign policy in the Roman Catholic Church.

Presidential candidates, George H.W. Bush and Mike Dukakis had different views on abortion rights. Polls showed women favoring Dukakis. If unborn babies could vote they'd probably vote for Bush. The cartoon was rejected because the owners (and managers )of the newspaper probably had mixed views about this issue. They have the right to publish or to not publish whatever they want. It's their newspaper. Other newspapers published the cartoon, however.

2003: Panel 1. In the old days, eyebrows were raised when black and white people got married or had children. That's a good example of racism. Panel 2. Today, Democrats, like Senator Ted Kennedy, the Black Caucus and others are "outraged" when Republicans, like President George W. Bush, appoint a black woman, to serve on the bench. Republicans, in the liberal mindset, are supposed to be racists. I don't know why this cartoon was rejected. Perhaps my bosses thought it was going to get too many newspaper cancelations. "

Panel 1-4. There was a lot of fear of a nuclear holocaust in America, back in the old days. I thought it would be good to remind people that there is much more to fear than death in a nuclear exchange. In quoting Matthew 10:28, my editors thought this cartoon crossed over the line from political commentary to religion. They were probably right.

Homicides, in Colorado Springs are up. Was it homicide when a local court ordered the feeding tube of Betty Peterson removed so she would starve to death? This was part of a Wha' Happened in Colorado cartoon that was rejected. I think it was because my bosses thought it was too obscure (or too complicated) for our readers to understand.

An important decision by the U.S. Supreme Court always brings protestors. Abortion has been the key dividing issue in this country for as long as I can remember. Faith-based ideas, which I share, hold to the view that human beings are created. We should take a long view that humans have God-given rights. Others, who see themselves as "enlightened" believe lawgivers and judges can determine who lives and who doesn't based on their status. Unborn babies have no status in America, but we still have laws against cannibalism. This cartoon was probably rejected because it crossed the line of separation of "church and state" which I have trouble finding in the Constitution.

Congress has passed many bills protecting bubble zones" to protect abortion clinics and religious structures from protestors. The only bubble they refuse to protect is the one that surrounds an unborn baby. The cartoons was rejected because my bosses thought I was inflicting my religion on their newspaper readers. Like I often say, they don't tell me what to draw. I don't them them what to print. There are speech rights and property rights. Both are supposedly protected by our Constitution. "

Panel 1-2. As the War in Iraq was heating up, liberals were strongly supporting abortion rights and they were strongly opposing President George W. Bush's (and H.W.'s) war in Iraq. Liberal view themselves as a "compassionate" people. I just don't see that. The cartoon was probably rejected because my bosses thought is was an apple and oranges comparison. The "Baby M" drama took place in New Jersey and that state's highest court ultimately ruled in 1988 that paying women to bear children was illegal. The case was covered, widely, by the national media. A story not covered, by the media, are the millions of other unwanted babies that are just tossed away. I think this cartoon was rejected because it depicted a fetus. Also it was too opportunistic for me to raise the abortion issue to their readers.

I knew this cartoon wouldn't get published. Editorial cartoonist, Paul Conrad, of the Denver Post and the LA Times, would often draw suffering victims (of some government social policy) nailed to a cross. I thought I would try to make a similar statement by putting aborted babies on a cross. I don't know if any papers, on my subscriber list, published it either.

Just to illustrate what we will get when we vote Democrat. It seems the party is not a party of compassion. It's a party of selfish ambition.

Lots of news stories, around Christmas time, are always about the plight of the homeless. I passed this Planned Parenthood clinic every day when I walked to work. The cartoon was drawn and rejected the same day. Sometimes I marvel how my bosses put up with me and kept me on the staff. I think they checked my cartoon, everyday, to see if I hid a fetus in there somewhere.

Euthanasia is a very difficult issue to deal with, especially in a cartoon. In states, like Oregon, where assisted suicide (death with dignity) is legal, court judges preside over a very grim ceremony of death. By combining our culture's autonomous yearning for death with the biblical doctrine of baptism into new life, it presents quite a stark contrast. My bosses were not amused. The cartoon was rejected.

Colorado's Governor Roy Romer administers the final shot to a patient the government feels no longer has quality of life. Romer agrees with the "Death with Dignity" crowd, I guess. This is a take-off on Bill Mauldin's famous cartoon when GI Joe was putting his war-torn jeep out of it's misery. I think my bosses and the Gazette thought the cartoon was too vivid for their readers.

Colorado has long been a front-runner in protecting abortion rights. Amendment 7 would allow the use of taxpayer money to be used for state medical services. The Hyde amendment kept federal taxpayer money from being used to fund abortions. Colorado is trying to sweep the unborn victims of tax-supported abortions under the flag. The cartoon was rejected because the depiction of fetus's is generally not allowed in the privately-owned newspaper.

I knew, when I drew it, that it wouldn't get published. Those suction machines at abortion clinics are not pleasant to look at. The folks at National Organization for Women seemed to like them, however.

Panel 1. Ethics and science tend to get blurred when doctors can harvest organs from aborted babies that will benefit other living beings. Panel 2. The same argument can be used in the issue of cannibalism. This cartoon probably didn't pass the "taste" test.

Panel 1-6. Women, in America, have lots of hard, personal choices to make. It seems people in the liberal community would like the government to help out in all these areas including the hard, personal choice of having her unborn baby killed. I think the cartoon was rejected for publication because it was too insensitive.

Dorothy Sarnoff was hired as a communications consultant for Colorado Representative Pat Schroeder, who is planning to run for higher office. Her advice was a change in hairstyle and other outward appearances. My advice would be changing the way she thinks. The Constitutional approach would be to follow the law. She should understand that our forefathers wanted elected officials should serve the people rather than vise versa. She should also understand that people are people, no matter how small. I think this cartoon was rejected because it depicted a fetus, something she called a "tissue mass".

Panel 1. At the Democratic National convention, Presidential candidate, Mike Dukakis, gave a speech where he recognized the joy of having a grandson. Panel 2. It was an uplifting note meant to raise the spirits of all Americans. Panel 3. Then he realized Molly Yard, the leader of the National Organization for Women was in the audience. Panel 4. The abortion rights voting block is very powerful in the Democrat party. They believe an unborn baby is just a tissue mass. The cartoon was rejected because it seemed harsh.

Here I adopted a popular phrase from Network TV's coverage of the Olympic winter games... "the Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat". Pro-abortion Senators, Bob Packwood, Max Baucus and Lowell Weicker won their races. It looks like a bad year for the unborn...often depicted in pro-life circles, as little feet. I'm not sure why this cartoon was rejected. Perhaps it was the depiction of fetus feet.

Molly Yard, the chairman of the National Organization for Women, threatened to leave the Democrat party if they didn't fall in line with her radical, abortion agenda. Democratic party leader, Ron Brown would be sorry to see her, and her feminist followers, leave because they are a huge voting block in the party. Some, more moderate Democrats, however, might be glad to see that happen. It's a tough thing to carry Molly and her buddy, death, around all the time. The cartoon was probably rejected because I seemed to be poking fun at Molly's big butt.

The argument liberals often make to justify abortion is "Who should pay?" Should the courts hold the rape victim accountable? Should they go after the rapist or make the taxpayer pick up the tab? Not noticed, where abortion is legal, it's the innocent unborn child who suffers the punishment. Again, I think this cartoon was rejected because it depicted a fetus plus it was too rough on women who had abortions.
