application/pdf, 紀要論文, 日本語教育でディベート授業が行われる場合、一般的に、議論の力を伸ばす目的で行われることが多い。学部留学生のクラスでディベートを扱う場合、ニーズの高さが背景として考えられるが、民間の日本語学校のような、背景の異なる学習者で構成され多様なニーズが存在するクラスでは、ディベート授業の意義が問われる。そこで筆者らは、ディベートを試合の準備から試合後のフィードバックまでを一連の活動として捉え直し、この活動を通して学習者の学びを観察することにより、教室活動としてのディベートの可能性を探った。各試合後の振り返りシートを分析した結果、ひとつのテーマにおいて多様な活動形態でプロセスを踏むことにより、「他者」から様々な刺激を受け、その刺激により気づきが生まれることが窺えた。プロセスに注目したディベート授業では、学習者一人一人が活動を通して課題を見つけ、目標を設定できるという新たな可能性が示せた。, Typically, a debating class in teaching Japanese is aimed at enhancing debating skills. Although holding this class for foreign undergraduates is likely to be justified by the confirmed need, this justification can be questioned in the context of private Japanese language schools including students with different backgrounds and needs. Therefore, we decided to reexamine the impact of debating by conducting a debate and subsequently eliciting feedback from the participants and to monitor the consequent development of learning by the students so as to explore the possibility of organizing debating as a classroom activity. Our analysis of the above feedback revealed that they had received various motivations from “others” and increased their self-esteem by following the processes of various activity forms in debating on a single theme. Thus, a new possibility was advanced that student individually discover their own challenges and establish their own targets through activities in a debating class focused on processes.

16. Multiple Sclerosis Exacerbation Associated With High-Altitude Climbing Exposure

Abstract

The spectrum of the neurological effects of high-altitude exposure can range from high-altitude headache and acute mountain sickness, to the more severe end of the spectrum with high-altitude cerebral edema. In general, patients with known unstable preexisting neurological conditions and those patients with residual neurological deficits from a preexisting neurological condition are discouraged from climbing to high altitudes because of the risk of exacerbation or worsening of symptoms. Although multiple sclerosis exacerbations can be triggered by environmental factors, high-altitude exposure has not been reported as a potential trigger. We are reporting the case of a multiple sclerosis exacerbation presenting in an active duty U.S. Air Force serviceman upon ascending and descending Mt. Fuji within the same day.

20. Relevant Obstetric Factors for Cerebral Palsy: From the Nationwide Obstetric Compensation System in Japan.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the relevant obstetric factors for cerebral palsy (CP) after 33 weeks’ gestation in Japan. Study design: This retrospective case cohort study (1:100 cases and controls) used a Japanese national CP registry. Obstetric characteristics and clinical course were compared between CP cases in the Japan Obstetric Compensation System for Cerebral Palsy database and controls in the perinatal database of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology born as live singleton infants between 2009 and 2011 with a birth weight ≥ 2,000 g and gestation ≥ 33 weeks. Results: One hundred and seventy-five CP cases and 17,475 controls were assessed. Major relevant single factors for CP were placental abnormalities (31%), umbilical cord abnormalities (15%), maternal complications (10%), and neonatal complications (1%). A multivariate regression model demonstrated that obstetric variables associated with CP were acute delivery due to non-reassuring fetal status (relative risk [RR]: 37.182, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 20.028–69.032), uterine rupture (RR: 24.770, 95% CI: 6.006–102.160), placental abruption (RR: 20.891, 95% CI: 11.817–36.934), and preterm labor (RR: 3.153, 95% CI: 2.024–4.911), whereas protective factors were head presentation (RR: 0.199, 95% CI: 0.088–0.450) and elective cesarean section (RR: 0.236, 95% CI: 0.067–0.828). Conclusion: CP after 33 weeks’ gestation in the recently reported cases in Japan was strongly associated with acute delivery due to non-reassuring fetal status, uterine rupture, and placental abruption. 21. Activation of Secondary Metabolism and Protease Activity Mechanisms in the Black Koji Mold Aspergillus luchuensis through Coculture with Animal Cells.

Abstract

The activation of secondary metabolism plays a pivotal role in the discovery of novel natural products. We recently developed a coculture method involving actinomycetes and mouse macrophage-like cells to stimulate the production of bioactive compounds. A black koji mold, Aspergillus luchuensis IFM 61405, markedly enhanced the production of (3 S ,8 R )-8-hydroxy-3-carboxy-2-methylenenonanoic acid ( 1a ), (3 S ,8 S )-8-hydroxy-3-carboxy-2-methylenenonanoic acid ( 1b ), and (3 S )-9-hydroxy-3-carboxy-2-methylenenonanoic acid ( 2 ) when coincubated with J774.1 mouse macrophage cells. The production of 1 and 2 increased by at least 3.5-fold and 2.7-fold, respectively, compared to monoculture after 7 days. A mechanistic investigation revealed that a protease from strain IFM 61405 plays a key role in enhancing the production of 1 and 2 . This enhancement was not replicated in A. niger IFM 59706, a nonkoji mold, despite the presence of biosynthetic genes for 1 and 2 in A. niger IFM 59706. Furthermore, the addition of protease inhibitors suppressed the production of 1 and 2 , suggesting that proteins secreted from animal cells, likely degraded by proteases secreted by strain IFM 61405, serve as precursors for 1 and 2 .
