The adoption of voluntary environmental certifications such as ISO 14001 and Eco‐Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) has gained momentum in the last two decades. The scholarly literature has analyzed in depth the performance implications of the adoption of these certificates. Yet the findings are scattered and inconclusive. This article aims to shed light on this issue by meta‐analyzing the influence of the adoption of voluntary environmental certifications on corporate environmental performance, drawing on a sample of 53 scholarly studies analyzing a total of 182,926 companies. The findings show a positive influence of ISO 14001 and EMAS certifications on corporate environmental performance. A set of underlying moderating effects are also identified, such as a more pronounced positive effect for adoptions based on environmental innovation and for firms with a more mature certification. Implications for scholars, managers, and other stakeholders are discussed.

Purpose This article aims to estimate the social footprint of a higher education institution (HEI) and its potential contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under life cycle assessment (LCA) perspective. The social organisational life cycle assessment (SO-LCA) of the academic activity of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), in northern Spain, has been performed, in order to estimate its social impacts. Method The assessment has been run using openLCA software and supported on the PSILCA-based Soca add-on for the Ecoinvent v3.3 database, covering 53 social indicators for almost 15,000 industrial sectors and goods in 189 countries. Results and discussion The analysis undertaken reflects social impacts and associated risk levels for four stakeholders: Workers, Local Community, Society, and Value Chain Actors. Labour activity in the UPV/EHU is the sub-process with the greatest social impact, followed by processes related to transport, energy, materials, and waste management. Among the socio-economic context which supports the academic activity of the UPV/EHU (indirect impacts), the existence of traces of child labour and illiteracy outside the Basque Country stands out. Further analysis would be required in order to more accurately determine the geographical location of such impacts, and also to better tackle the concept of social debt. Conclusion SO-LCA may have great potential for HEIs, helping them to identify hotspots, reduce their social footprint, and raise awareness among the academic community, which undoubtedly contributes to the knowledge, progress, human values, and sustainability these HEIs stand for. 4. Shedding light on the determinants of eco-innovation: A meta-analytic study

In the past decade a stream of studies has analyzed the determinants of eco‐innovation. Four main clusters of drivers have been identified in the literature: “technology push,” “market pull,” “regulatory push‐pull,” and “firm specific factors.” Nevertheless, the empirical quantitative and comparative analysis of those clusters is rare, scattered and inconclusive. This article aims to fill this gap by analyzing the determinants of eco‐innovation on the basis of a meta‐analytic study of quantitative empirical studies published over the period 2006 to 2017—a meta‐analysis which accounts for a total of 211,123 firms. The findings show that firms with collaborative networks and/or more environmental concern are more prone to eco‐innovate, emphasizing the role of “technology push” as the main cluster of determinants, regardless of whether a typology of eco‐innovation is included as a moderator in the meta‐analysis. Based on the results of the meta‐analytic study, the paper discusses several courses of action to foster eco‐innovation and achieve environmental benefits.

Horretarako Gipuzkoako udalerri guztientzat eskuragarri dauden datu estatistikoez baliaturik sozio-ekonomia eta ingurumenari loturiko ezaugarri nagusienen aurkezpen sintetiko bat egingo da lehenik eta ondoren aldagai anitzeko teknika estatistiko batez baliaturik Gipuzkoako Herrialde osora hedatuko den iraunkortasunari buruzko azterketa bat garatuko da. Hau da, Udalmap delakoan aurki daitezkeen adierazleetan oinarrituko garaeta Osagai Nagusien Analisia (ONA) metodologiaz baliatuz Gipuzkoako udalerrien sailkapena egingo da iraunkortasunean erreparatuta.

Resumen: Dada la gran capacidad de compra del sector público a todos los niveles, la compra y contratación pública sostenible posee grandes potencialidades en catalizar el desarrollo económico sostenible, en particular en el contexto de crisis global. El hecho de que las administraciones e instituciones públicas se decanten por compras y contrataciones sostenibles puede transformar el mercado, estimular el desarrollo de una gestión socialmente responsable y crear incentivos para invertir, innovar y ampliar las soluciones sostenibles a partir del impulso de demanda de las administraciones públicas. En la medida en que las instituciones y administraciones públicas son un buen ejemplo de prácticas sostenibles para los ciudadanos y, a su vez, impulsores de conciencia de sostenibilidad es importante que actúen de forma coherente con las políticas de sostenibilidad que promocionan. Esto, si cabe, es más importante para las instituciones públicas de enseñanza e investigación dado que tienen la responsabilidad de suscitar la conciencia de sostenibilidad entre sus estudiantes y personal. En este contexto, en el presente trabajo de investigación se va analizar el papel que ha desempeñado durante estos últimos años la Universidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU). De modo que, el objetivo de este trabajo es identificar y contabilizar, tanto en número como en importes adjudicados, las adjudicaciones y formalizaciones de contratos públicos de la UPV/EHU realizados con el universo de la Economía Social Vasca, durante el periodo 2012-2014. Para ello se estudiarán los contratos públicos difundidos en el perfil de contratante de la UPV/EHU.

Decisions on environmental issues are complex and multidimensional as they represent multiple interests and values. Nevertheless, the ability of participatory multi-criteria methodologies to deal with this kind of problem is widely acknowledged. Traditionally, multi-criteria methods have focused more on technical issues than on the representation of participants&rsquo, preferences. In participatory processes there are questions such as who establishes the mechanisms of participation, in what terms these processes are developed and who is going to participate, which are determining factors that have not been sufficiently studied in multi-criteria analysis. This paper, in order to shed light on this gap, aims to compare the creation of social preferences under two different participatory approaches. For this purpose, two different participatory approaches are compared. On the one hand, applying the social multi-criteria evaluation (SMCE) method, a deliberative process is developed following the principles of deliberative democracy. On the other hand, an aggregation process of individual preferences has been developed based on information collected through surveys. Both approaches have advantages as well as constraints. Our main finding is that the information obtained through the different participatory methods is different and complementary. Therefore, we can state that both participatory methods can be enriching assessment processes.
