The status of the study of multiple fragmentation of 950 MeV per nucleon Kr nuclei in a nuclear track emulsion aimed at determining the contributions of 2$\alpha$ decays of $^{8}$Be, the Hoyle 3$\alpha$ state, and the search for a 4$\alpha$ particle condensate state, is presented. In events with the production of few relativistic fragments of He and H, the possibility of estimating the multiplicity of neutrons in the fragmentation cone of a projectile nucleus is studied. For the planar component of neutron transverse momenta estimated from the angles of observed secondary stars, the Rayleigh distribution parameter was 35 $\pm$ 7 MeV/$c$. In the events of peripheral dissociation of relativistic nuclei in the nuclear track emulsion, it is possible to study the emerging ensembles of He and H nuclei, including those from decays of unstable $^{8}$Be and $^{9}$B nuclei, as well as the Hoyle state. These extremely short-lived states are identified by invariant masses calculated from the angles in 2$\alpha$-pairs, 2$\alpha p$- and 3$\alpha$-triplets in the approximation of conservation of momentum per nucleon of the primary nucleus. In the same approach, it is possible to search for more complex states. This paper explores the correlation between the formation of $^{8}$Be nuclei and the multiplicity of accompanying $\alpha$-particles in the dissociation of relativistic $^{16}$O, $^{22}$Ne, $^{28}$Si, and $^{197}$Au nuclei. On the above basis, estimates of this correlation are presented for the unstable $^{9}$B nucleus and the Hoyle state. The enhancement in the $^{8}$Be contribution to dissociation with the $\alpha$-particle multiplicity has been found. Decays of $^{9}$B nuclei and Hoyle states follow the same trend.

The invariant mass method is used to identify the $^8$Be and $^9$B nuclei and Hoyle state formed in dissociation of relativistic nuclei in a nuclear track emulsion. It is shown that to identify these extremely short-lived states in the case of the isotopes $^9$Be, $^{10}$B, $^{10}$C, $^{11}$C, $^{12}$C, and $^{16}$O, it is sufficient to determine the invariant mass as a function of the angles in pairs and triples of He and H fragments in the approximation of the conservation of momentum per nucleon of the parent nucleus. Status and prospects of nuclear clustering studies by dissociation of relativistic nuclei in nuclear track emulsion are presented. The unstable $^{8}$Be and $^{9}$B nuclei are identified in dissociation of the isotopes $^{9}$Be, $^{10}$B, $^{10}$C and $^{11}$C, and the Hoyle state in the cases $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O. On this ground searching for the Hoyle state and more complex $\alpha$-particle states in the dissociation of the heavier nuclei is suggested. A detailed study of a low-density baryonic matter arising in dissociation of the heaviest nuclei is forthcoming long-term problem. Production of $\alpha$-particle triples in the Hoyle state (HS) in dissociation of ${}^{12}$C nuclei at 3.65 and 0.42 $A$ GeV in nuclear track emulsion is revealed by the invariant mass approach. Contribution of the HS to the dissociation ${}^{12}$C $\to$ 3$\alpha$ is (11 $\pm$ 3) \%. Experiments in preparation for search for uranium ternary fission by means of nuclear track emulsion are summarized. Production of ensembles of $\alpha$-particle triples associated with the Hoyle state (the second excited state of the ${}^{12}$C nucleus) in peripheral dissociation of relativistic ${}^{12}$C nuclei is studied. Stacks of nuclear track emulsion pellicles exposed to ${}^{12}$C with an energy from hundreds MeV to a few GeV per nucleon serve as the material for studies. The Hoyle state decays are reconstructed via measurement of emission angles of $\alpha$ particles with the precision sufficient for identification of the unstable ${}^{8}$Be nucleus. The estimate of the contribution of Hoyle's state to the ${}^{12}$C $\to$ 3$\alpha$ dissociation is 10-15\%., Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, 1 table

A role of the unstable nuclei ${}^{6}$Be, ${}^{8}$Be and ${}^{9}$B in the dissociation of relativistic nuclei ${}^{7,9}$Be, ${}^{10}$B and ${}^{10,11}$C is under study on the basis of nuclear track emulsion exposed to secondary beams of the JINR Nuclotron. Contribution of the configuration ${}^{6}$Be + $\mit{n}$ to the ${}^{7}$Be nucleus structure is 8 $\pm$ 1% which is near the value for the configuration ${}^{6}$Li + $\mit{p}$. Distributions over the opening angle of $\alpha$-particle pairs indicate to a simultaneous presence of virtual ${}^{8}$Be$_{g.s.}$ and ${}^{8}$Be$_{2^+}$ states in the ground states of the ${}^{9}$Be and ${}^{10}$C nuclei. The core ${}^{9}$B is manifested in the {${}^{10}$C} nucleus with a probability of 30 $\pm$ 4%. Selection of the ${}^{10}$C "white" stars accompanied by ${}^{8}$Be$_{g.s.}$ (${}^{9}$B) leads to appearance in the excitation energy distribution of 2$\alpha$2$\mit{p}$ "quartets" of the distinct peak with a maximum at 4.1 $\pm$ 0.3 MeV. ${}^{8}$Be$_{g.s.}$ decays are presented in 24 $\pm$ 7% of 2He + 2H events of the ${}^{11}$C coherent dissociation and 27 $\pm$ 11% of the 3He ones. The channel ${}^{9}$B + H amounts 14 $\pm$ 3%. The ${}^{8}$Be$_{g.s.}$ nucleus is manifested in the coherent dissociation ${}^{10}$B $\to$ 2He + H with a probability of 25 $\pm$ 5% including 14 $\pm$ 3% of ${}^{9}$B decays. A probability ratio of the mirror channels ${}^{9}$B + $\mit{n}$ and ${}^{9}$Be + $\mit{p}$ is estimated to be 6 $\pm$ 1., Comment: To be published in Physics of Particles in Nuclei (in press)

Application of the nuclear track emulsion technique (NTE) in radioactivity and nuclear fission studies is discussed. It is suggested to use a HSP-1000 automated microscope for searching for a collinear cluster tri-partition of heavy nuclei implanted in NTE. Calibrations of $\alpha $-particles and ion ranges in a novel NTE are carried out. Surface exposures of NTE samples to a ${}^{252}$Cf source started. Planar events containing fragments and long-range $\alpha $-particles as well as fragment triples only are studied. We analyze the self-similarity approach applied to study the hadron production in p-p and A-A collisions. This approach allows us to describe rather well the ratio of the proton to anti-proton yields in A-A collisions as a function of the energy at a wide range from a few GeV to a few TeV. We suggest a modification of this approach to describe rather well the inclusive spectra of hadrons produced in $pp$ collisions at different initial energies from the AGS to LHC., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures

The charge topology of coherent-dissociation events is presented for $^{11}$C and $^{12}$N nuclei of energy 1.2~\textit{A}~GeV per nucleon bombarding nuclear track emulsions. The fragment separator ACCULINNA in the G. N. Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions of JINR was used to expose a nuclear track emulsion to a beam of radioactive $^{8}$He nuclei of energy of 60 MeV and enrichment of about 80%. Measurements of decays of $^{8}$He nuclei stopped in the emulsion allow one to evaluate possibilities of $\alpha$-spectrometry and to observe a thermal drift of $^{8}$He atoms in matter. Knowledge of the energy and emission angles of $\alpha$-particles allows one to derive the energy distribution of $\alpha$-decays Q$_{2\alpha}$. The presence of a "tail" of large values Q$_{2\alpha}$ is established. The physical reason for the appearance of this "tail" in the distribution Q$_{2\alpha}$ is not clear. Exposures of test samples of nuclear track emulsion were analyzed. Angular and energy correlations of products originating from the thermal-neutron-induced reaction n$_{th} + ^{10}$B $\rightarrow ^{7}$Li $+ (\gamma) + \alpha$ were studied in nuclear tack emulsions enriched in boron. Nuclear track emulsions were also irradiated with $^{86}$Kr$^{+17}$ and $^{132}$Xe$^{+26}$ of energy about 1.2 MeV per nucleon. Measurements of ranges of heavy ions in nuclear track emulsions made it possible to determine their energies on the basis of the SRIM model. The formation of high-multiplicity nuclear stars was observed upon irradiating nuclear track emulsions with ultrarelativistic muons. The charge topology in the fragmentation of $^{10}$C nuclei in a track nuclear emulsion at an energy of 1.2 GeV per nucleon is studied. In the coherent dissociation of $^{10}$C nuclei, about 82% of events are associated with the channel $^{10}$C $\rightarrow$ 2$\alpha +$ 2\emph{p}. The angular distributions and correlations of product fragments are presented for this channel. The dissociation features in nuclear track emulsion of $^9$Be, $^{9,10}$C, and $^{12}$N nuclei of 1.2 A GeV energy are presented. The data presented for the nucleus $^9$Be can be considered as evidence that there is a core in its structure in the form of 0$^+$ and 2$^+$ states of the $^8$Be nucleus having roughly equal weights. Events of coherent dissociation $^9$C$\rightarrow 3^3$He associated with the rearrangement of the nucleons outside the $\alpha$-clustering are identified. A pattern of the charge fragment topology in the dissociation of $^{10}$C and $^{12}$N nuclei is obtained for the first time. Contribution of the unbound nucleus decays to the cascade process $^{10}$C$\rightarrow ^9$B$\rightarrow ^8$Be is identified.

A nuclear track emulsion was exposed to a mixed beam of relativistic $^{12}$N, $^{10}$C, and $^7$Be nuclei having a momentum of 2 GeV/$c$ per nucleon. The beam was formed upon charge exchange processes involving $^{12}$C primary nuclei and their fragmentation. An analysis indicates that $^{10}$C nuclei are dominant in the beam and that $^{12}$N nuclei are present in it. The technique of nuclear track emulsions is used to explore the fragmentation of light relativistic nuclei down to the most peripheral interactions - nuclear "white" stars. A complete pattern of therelativistic dissociation of a $^8$B nucleus with target fragment accompaniment is presented. Relativistic dissociation $^{9}$Be$\to2\alpha$ is explored using significant statistics and a relative contribution of $^{8}$Be decays from 0$^+$ and 2$^+$ states is established. Target fragment accompaniments are shown for relativistic fragmentation $^{14}$N$\to$3He+H and $^{22}$Ne$\to$5He. The leading role of the electromagnetic dissociation on heavy nuclei with respect to break-ups on target protons is demonstrated in all these cases. Experimental data on fragmentation channels in peripheral interactions of $^8$B nuclei in nuclear track emulsions are presented. Recent studies of clustering in light nuclei with an initial energy above 1 A GeV in nuclear treack emulsion are overviewed. The results of investigations of the relativistic $^9$Be nuclei fragmentation in emulsion, which entails the production of He fragments, are presented. It is shown that most precise angular measurements provided by this technique play a crucial role in the restoration of the excitation spectrum of the $\alpha$ particle sysytem. In peripheral interactions $^9$Be nuclei are dissociated practically totally through the 0$^+$ and 2$^+$ states of the $^8$Be nucleus. The results of investigations of the dissociation of a $^{14}$N nucleus of momentum 2.86 A GeV/c in emulsion are presented as example of more complicated system. The momentum and correlation characteristics of $\alpha$ particles for the $^{14}$N$\to3\alpha+X$ channel in the laboratory system and the rest systems of 3$\alpha$ particles were considered in detail. Experimental results on peripheral fragmentation of relativistic $^{11}$B nuclei are presented. In the experiment the emulsions exposured to $^{11}$B beam with momentum 2.75 A GeV/c at the JINR Nuclotron are used. The relative probability of various fragmentation channels for nucleus breakups (class A) and more violent peripheral interactions (class B) have been determined. For classes under investigations the sum of the fragment charges in narrow forward cone is equal to the projectile charge, but in the events of class A there are no secondary particles and in the events of class B there are. In both classes the main channels is $^{11}$B$\to$2He+X: 62% and 50%, corresponding. The main channel $^{11}$B$\to$2(Z$_{fr}$=2)+(Z$_{fr}$=1) was investigated in details. Momentum measurements of single-charged fragments have been done to determine number of p, d and t in the channel. The results of investigations of the relativistic $^9$Be nucleus fragmentation in emulsion which entails the production of two He fragments of an energy of 1.2~A~GeV are presented. Possibilities of the nuclear emulsion technique for the study of the systems of several relativistic fragments produced in the peripheral interactions of relativistic nuclei are discussed. The interactions of the $^{10}$B and $^{9}$Be nuclei in emulsion are taken as an example to show the manifestation of the cluster degrees of freedom in relativistic fragmentation. For the case of the relativistic $^{9}$Be nucleus dissociation it is shown that exact angular measurements play a crucial role in the restoration of the excitation spectrum of the alpha particle fragments. The relativistic invariant approach is applied to analyzing the 3.3 A GeV $^{22}$Ne fragmentation in a nuclear track emulsion. New results on few-body dissociations have been obtained from the emulsion exposures to 2.1 A GeV $^{14}$N and 1.2 A GeV $^{9}$Be nuclei. It can be asserted that the use of the invariant approach is an effective means of obtaining conclusions about the behavior of systems involving a few He nuclei at a relative energy close to 1 MeV per nucleon. The first observations of fragmentation of 1.2 A GeV $^{8}$B and $^{9}$C nuclei in emulsion are described.
