The presence of painted, carved or sculpted decorations in European funerary contexts makes megalithic art a basic reference in order to classify the use of burial areas. Complex graphic programmes of paintings, engravings and sculptures constituted an essential part of funerary rites. The burial models provided by the Iberian Peninsula are a great contribution to the study of funerary graphics. Moreover, their concurrent open air versions open unforeseen expectations for a re-evaluation of the whole of megalithic art in Europe. La présence de décorations peintes, taillées ou sculptées dans des contextes funéraires européens font de l'art mégalithique une référence de base pour classer l'utilisation des aires d'enterrement. Les programmes graphiques complexes de peintures, des gravures et des sculptures ont constitué une partie essentielle de rites funéraires. Les modèles d'enterrement fournis par la Péninsule Ibérique sont une grande contribution à l'étude des décors funéraires. De plus, leurs pendants simultanés en plein air ouvrent des perspectives inespérées pour une re-évaluation de tout l'art mégalithique en Europe. La presencia de decoraciones pintadas, grabadas o esculpidas en los contextos funerarios europeos, hace del conjunto del arte megalítico una referencia básica sobre las sistemáticas de uso de los espacios sepulcrales. Programas gráficos complejos de pinturas, grabados y esculturas constituyeron una parte fundamental del dispositivo ritual funerario. La aportación que ofrecen los modelos peninsulares al estudio de los programas gráficos funerarios y a las versiones al aire libre que lo acompañan, abre inéditas expectativas para nuevas lecturas del arte megalítico europeo en su conjunto.

Este trabajo se incluye en los preparativos del Proyecto “Producción artesanal y división del trabajo en el Calcolítico del Sudeste de la Península Ibérica: un análisis a partir del registro arqueológico de Los Millares (partesi)” financiado por la Agencia Estatal de Investigación del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (pid2020-117437gb-i00/ aei/10.13039/501100011033) y se inscribe en la Unidad de Excelencia Archaeometrical Studies. Inside the Artefacts & Ecofacts, financiada por el Plan Propio de Investigación y Transferencia de la Univ. de Granada., Recientes investigaciones en el yacimiento calcolítico de Los Millares, Santa Fe de Mondújar, Almería, han permitido reconocer diferentes representaciones figurativas asociadas a la muralla más exterior o Muralla i, construida en torno a 2900 cal ac. La erección de esta muralla supuso una importante ampliación del poblado al ocupar zonas anteriormente destinadas a necrópolis. Se propone que algunos elementos pertenecientes al área de necrópolis fueron respetados y reutilizados para justificar, a través de los ancestros, la capacidad de acceder al asentamiento a través de la puerta principal –con la estatua-menhir situada junto a esta–, la exclusión de aquellos no vinculados –con todas las representaciones en ambos extremos de la muralla–, la integración de nuevas poblaciones –con la Tumba 63 incluida en el trazado de la muralla–, el rol de determinados personajes –con la estatua-menhir y la estela de la Tumba 63– y, en definitiva, los derechos a ocupar y explotar un territorio. Se señala además la relación de estos procesos con los identificados tradicionalmente en las tumbas de la necrópolis., Recent researches at Los Millares Chalcolithic site, Santa Fe de Mondújar, Almería, have allowed us to recognize different figurative representations associated with the outermost wall or Wall i, built around 2900 cal bc. The erection of this wall represented an important extension of the village occupying areas previously intended for necropolis. It is proposed that some features belonging to the necropolis area were respected and reused in order to justify, through the ancestors, the ability to access the settlement through the main gate –with the statue-menhir placed next to the gate–, the exclusion of strangers –with all the representations at both ends of the wall–, the integration of new populations –with the Tomb 63 included in the layout of the wall–, the role of certain characters –with the statue-menhir and stela in the Tomb 63– and, ultimately, the rights to occupy and exploit a territory. The investigation of the Iberian megalithic phenomenon has only recently begun to benefit from the expansion of the technical and scientific potential of modern archaeology. There are still very few Iberian megaliths for which high resolution scientific research has been carried out, providing detailed data on their design, uses and biographies. This paper presents the results of the multi-disciplinary study of the Palacio III tholos, part of a larger megalithic complex located in Almadén de la Plata (Seville). This study is based on a wide-spectrum methodology that integrates geoarchaeology, techno-morphological and functional analysis of portable material culture and graphic analysis, all combined within a meticulously contextual perspective. The results provide a wealth of data on how, through a series of carefully constructed cultural choices, this monument represents a true place of encounter between the locally available geological resources and other resources that were only accessible through contact with neighbouring communities. Whether in its raw state, finely carved in the form of engraved and painted sculptures or transformed into artefacts of high technical and personal value, the materiality of the stone in the Palacio III tholos acquires multiple cultural dimensions that only a modern scientific approach is able to reconstruct Solo recientemente la investigación del fenómeno megalítico ibérico ha comenzado a beneficiarse de la ampliación del potencial técnico y científico de la arqueología moderna. Todavía son muy pocos los megalitos ibéricos para los que se han realizado investigaciones científicas de alta resolución, capaces de aportar datos detallados sobre su diseño, usos y biografías. En este trabajo se presentan los resultados del estudio del tholos del complejo megalítico de Palacio III (Almadén de la Plata, Sevilla), abordado mediante una metodología multidisciplinar que integra la geoarqueología, el estudio tecnomorfológico y funcional de la cultura material portable y el análisis gráfico, dentro de una meticulosa valoración contextual. Los resultados aportan datos muy novedosos respecto a cómo, a través de una serie de elecciones culturales cuidadosamente construidas, este monumento representa un verdadero lugar de encuentro entre los recursos geológicos localmente disponibles y los recursos accesibles mediante contacto con otras comunidades. The analysis of the human remains from the megalithic tomb at Alto de Reinoso represents the widest integrative study of a Neolithic collective burial in Spain. Combining archaeology, osteology, molecular genetics and stable isotope analysis (87Sr/86Sr, δ15N, δ13C) it provides a wealth of information on the minimum number of individuals, age, sex, body height, pathologies, mitochondrial DNA profiles, kinship relations, mobility, and diet. The grave was in use for approximately one hundred years around 3700 cal BC, thus dating from the Late Neolithic of the Iberian chronology. At the bottom of the collective tomb, six complete and six partial skeletons lay in anatomically correct positions. Above them, further bodies represented a subsequent and different use of the tomb, with almost all of the skeletons exhibiting signs of manipulation such as missing skeletal parts, especially skulls. The megalithic monument comprised at least 47 individuals, including males, females, and subadults, although children aged 0–6 years were underrepresented. The skeletal remains exhibited a moderate number of pathologies, such as degenerative joint diseases, healed fractures, cranial trauma, and a low intensity of caries. The mitochondrial DNA profiles revealed a pattern pointing to a closely related local community with matrilineal kinship patterns. In some cases adjacent individuals in the bottom layer showed familial relationships. According to their strontium isotope ratios, only a few individuals were likely to have spent their early childhood in a different geological environment, whilst the majority of individuals grew up locally. Carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis, which was undertaken to reconstruct the dietary habits, indicated that this was a homogeneous group with egalitarian access to food. Cereals and small ruminants were the principal sources of nutrition. These data fit in well with a lifestyle typical of sedentary farming populations in the Spanish Meseta during this period of the Neolithic

The continuation of the excavation and consolidation projects in the megaliths of the municipality of Alcántara allows us to change and enrich the data of the first season. The Alcántara group of tombs is confirmed as of great interest. Although unpublished hitherto, they permit us to propose certain questions about the location of the funerary deposits and, indeed, about the economic capacity of groups which have been thought to be poor, retarded and marginal., La continuación de los trabajos de excavación y consolidación en los dólmenes del término de Alcántara, permite matizar y enriquecer los datos de la primera campaña. El grupo de Alcántara se confirma como de alto interés. De resultar completamente inédito por lo que se refiere a sus materiales y a la presencia de grafías megalíticas, se dibuja ahora como especialmente rico, con ajuares bien conservados. La situación de los mismos, su calidad y variedad de materias primas nos permiten proponer una serie de cuestiones sobre ubicación de los depósitos funerarios y, desde luego, sobre la capacidad económica de unos grupos sociales que se suponían pobres, retardatarios y marginales.

Presented in the International Congress on Science and Technology for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage, organized by the Spanish Network on Science and Technology for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (Technoheritage) and celebrated in Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña, Spain), 2-5 octubre 2012., [EN] The work presented here describes the methodology used for the recording of the megalithic art (painting and engravings) preserved in the Dolmen of Dombate (Cabana de Bergantiños, A Coruña). This recording is linked to the plans for the construction of a permanent canopy over the mound (built in 2010), which raised the need to undertake direct interventions inside the chamber, especially on the paintings. Therefore, it became essential to obtain an accurate recording of the preserved art, to verify the current condition of the paintings, as well as to assess any possible damages and alterations throughout the implementation phase of the project and the processes involved in conservation and restoration activities. These recording tasks were always carried out by means of non-invasive and indirect techniques, mainly consisting in the execution of digital tracings and alteration maps from orthoimages of the stone slabs obtained by close range photogrammetry and structured-light 3D scanning., [ES] El trabajo que aquí se presenta describe la metodología utilizada para la grabación del arte megalítica (pinturas y grabados) conservado en el Dolmen de Dombate (Cabana de Bergantiños, A Coruña). Esta grabación está vinculada a los planes para la construcción de un pabellón permanente sobre el montículo (construido en 2010), que planteó la necesidad de realizar intervenciones directas en el interior de la cámara, especialmente en las pinturas. Por lo tanto, se convirtió en esencial para obtener un registro preciso de la técnica de conservación, para verificar el estado actual de las obras, así como para evaluar los posibles daños y alteraciones a lo largo de la fase de ejecución del proyecto y los procesos involucrados en las actividades de conservación y restauración. In an archaeological context before a works execution took place (an electric half tension line), some engraved gravestones were found around the area of Fonte Touron, Council of Lalín. These gravestones have engravings representative of megalithism and nowadays they became boundary markers of the yards in which they are. The features of the engravings, besides the very shape of the stones and the context where other mounds are located, and above everything, the information provided by local neighbors that relate the stones of this mound to one set apart some years ago, points that they were part of a megalithic monument, and it is highly probable that they were the orthostats of a chamber. No contexto dos traballos arqueolóxicos previos á execución dunha obra (unha liña eléctrica de media tensión), localizáronse unhas lousas con gravados na zona de Fonte Tourón, en Lalín. Trátase dunhas lousas que presentan uns gravados de estilo propio do megalitismo e que agora forman parte dos lindes das fincas nas que se atopan. As características destes gravados, sumado á propia forma das pedras, a un contexto onde se localizan outras mámoas e sobre todo, á información dos veciños que vinculan estas pedras cunha mámoa desfeita fai uns anos, apuntan a que formaron parte dun monumento megalítico, e que moi probablemente se trata dos esteos dunha cámara.

We present the first results of the excavation of megaliths in the municipality of Alcántara (Cáceres), aimed to their consolidation and restoration. They are built of slate and possess materials and engravings that indicate the existence of exchange net works in this sector of the Tejo, which is traditionally interpreted as marginal and practically depopulated in the IV and III millennium b. C. Of note is the presence of a grave with plain Bell Beaker pottery, vessel and bowl dished omphalos base, and sheet metal.Se dan a conocer los primeros resultados de la excavación de dólmenes en el término de Alcántara (Cáceres), con el objeto de su consolidación y restauración. Se trata de arquitecturas en pizarra con el interés de poseer grabados megalíticos y materiales que indican la existencia de redes de intercambio en este sector del Tajo, tradicionalmente interpretado como marginal y prácticamente deshabitado en el transcurso del IV y III milenio a.C. Destaca la presencia de un ajuar campaniforme liso con vaso, cuenco con umbo y laminita metálica.
